Essie Mae “Brownie” (Ezelle) Brown, 80, a native of Crowville, and a resident of Bayou L’Ourse, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, at her residence.
She was a member of Bayou L’Ourse Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 242 in Patterson.
Brownie was a loving and kind lady who was very strong-willed and a fighter when it came to her health. She loved to fish in her younger years. She loved to play bingo and travel. She was a family-oriented lady, pouring her love and energies into them.
She loved her grandchildren and would save her money 12 months of the year so she could give them a special Christmas.
She was loved by all who knew her and would put others’ needs ahead of her own.
She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was the daughter of the late Louie Ezelle and the late Fannie (Twiner) Ezelle.
She is also survived by her loving husband of over 59 years, Charles William Brown Sr. of Bayou L’Ourse; one daughter, Deborah Bergeron and her husband, Roy, of Bayou L’Ourse; two sons, Charles W. Brown Jr. and his wife, Ginger, and Patrick W. Brown Sr. and his wife, Maxine, all of Bayou L’Ourse; one sister, Helen Cupit and her husband, E.R., of Crowville; one brother, Earl D. Ezelle of Crowville; eight grandchildren, Bonnie Fryou, Angie Kulka, Bridgette Brown, Becky Ruiz, Brandy Brown, Patrick Brown Jr., Perry Comeaux and Charles Wayne Comeaux; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Eula Mae Riser.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. today, Jan. 21, 2005, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City. Funeral services will be at Twin City Funeral Home at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005. interment will be at the Morgan City Cemetery.
Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Calvin J. LaSalle
Beloved Husband and Father
Calvin J. LaSalle, 54 a native of Kaplan and resident of Patterson, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at 2:30 a.m. at his residence.
He was a welder at Swiftships in Morgan City for 25 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6211 in Bayou Vista. He liked to fish, hunt and watch football and wrestling on television.
Visitation was Sunday and resumed this morning at David Funeral Home in Abbeville.
Funeral services were held today at 2 p.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Burial was in Pitre Marceaux Cemetery in Kaplan.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Comeaux LaSalle of Patterson; two sons, Greg LaSalle of Morgan City and Telly LaSalle of Patterson; three brothers, Allen LaSalle of New Iberia, LeRoy LaSalle of Delcambre and Billy LaSalle of Bayou Vista; and three sisters, Jeanette Maturin, Janelle Vincent and Gloria York, all of Kaplan.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin LaSalle; his mother, Maudry Richard LaSalle; and one brother, Lennis LaSalle.
Pallbearers will be Allen LaSalle, LeRoy LaSalle, Marvin Leger, LeRoy Maturin, Lawrence Comeaux and Mike LeLue. Honorary pallbearers are Scott Gaspard, L.J. LaSalle, Ozan Gaspard and B.J. LaSalle.
David Funeral Home in Abbeville is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Grant
June 20, 1928 — January 24, 2005
Mary Grant, a resident of Bayou Vista, was born to the late Frank and Mary Pollage on June 20, 1928, and Passed away Jan. 24, 2005, at her residence at the age of 76.
She was a Catholic by faith and a longtime parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. She taught catechism at the church where she influenced the lives of many children so that they would one day make a positive difference in the world. She was actively involved in the ministry of St. Joseph’s Altar, giving her time and talents to those less fortunate than herself.
Mrs. Mary lived her life filled with a driving passion and with the heart of a true servant. She devoted many hours as a teacher at the Center of Hope, loving and caring for the mentally handicapped children.
Out of all her many accomplishments in life, nothing would compare to the love Mary had and gave to her family.
She is survived by her loving husband, Marshall Lee Grant Jr. of Bayou Vista; two sons, Anthony M. Grant of Bayou Vista and Joseph “Joe” F. Grant and his wife, Elaine Wooters Grant, of Berwick; two sisters, Angelina Bourgeois of Brusly and Susie Calvaruso of Baton Rouge; two brothers, Victor Pollage and his wife, Ida Mae Pollage, of Plaquemine, and Joe Pollage and his wife, Evella Pollage, of Brusly; her grandchildren, Kevin Grant and his wife, Lorena Grant, of Houma, and Dana Grant Robin of Berwick; and her great-grandchild, Baylie Robin of Berwick.
A time of remembrance and reflection will be observed Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City, with a rosary to be said at 7 p.m.
Visitation will resume Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Religious services will be conducted in the Hargrave Funeral Home chapel at 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery.

Glen Dalcour, 55, a native of Morgan City and resident of Berwick, died Thursday at 1:10 p.m. at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at the Church of Christ in Morgan City. interment will be in the Morgan City Cemetery.
He is survived by one son, Shaun Joseph Dalcour of Morgan City; one brother, Claudis A. Dalcour Jr. of Gulfport, Miss.; four sisters, Claudette Dalcour, Shelia Dalcour, Patti Dalcour and Trudy Brooks, all of Morgan City; four grandchildren; his former wife and a devoted friend.
Jones Funeral Home of Morgan City is in charge of arrangements.

Rosa Marie Pennison Giroir
May 14, 1904 — January 25, 2005
Rosa Marie (Pennison) Giroir, age 100, a native of Patterson and resident of Bayou L’Ourse, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City.
She was a longtime faithful member of the Saint Andrew Catholic Church. She was also a member of St. Mary Parish AARP and the Saint Andrew Ladies Altar Society.
Rosa always will be remembered as a kind lady that loved the blessing of life and lived it to the fullest.
She was a charitable lady who loved people, oftentimes putting their needs ahead of her own. She loved to sew and crochet, and was known for her talents as a seamstress, putting her own special touch to wedding dresses and clothing for her children.
Rosa was a wonderful provider for her family and loved to cook and bake.
She was very strong in her faith in God and lived her life by example. Her legacy lives on in her children and grandchildren.
She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her and each life she touched in her own special way.
She was the daughter of the late Cleophas Pennison and the late Julia (Barras) Pennison.
She is survived by her six daughters, Mary Ann Giroir of Morgan City, Anita Noxon and her husband, Ben, of Dallas, Texas , Dora Guillot, also of Dallas, Betsy Grizzaffi of Morgan City, Claire Phillips and her husband, Kenneth, of Belle Chasse, and Judy Falgoust and her husband, Gerald, of Vacherie; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of over 57 years, Clarence Giroir; two sons, Mark Giroir and Richard Giroir; two brothers, Charles Pennison and Gilbert Pennison; and one sister, Enola Pennison.
The family will receive friends from 8:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Amelia with a rosary to be said at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Andrew Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, with Father Greg Fratt officiating.
Pallbearers to serve will be entrusted to the care of her grandsons. interment will be at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery in Amelia.
Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Albert Walters Jr., 56, a native and resident of Franklin, died Jan. 20 at his residence.
Visitation will be observed Friday at St. Joseph Baptist Church in Franklin from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the church Friday at 7 p.m. Burial will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Leona Walters of Franklin; five sons, Anthony Walters and Albert Walters III, both of Lafayette, Michael Walters, Christopher Walters and Travis Walters, all of Franklin; one daughter, Jeanette Gabriel of Franklin; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Walters Sr. of Franklin; five brothers, Freddie Williams of Franklin, George Lee Bolden of New Orleans, Eugene Walters and Dallas Walters, both of Jeanerette, and Darrell Walters of Miami; three sisters, Niecey Derosen of Pineville, Thelma Baptiste of Abbeville and Dianne Walters of Franklin; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, a sister and a brother.

Charles Todd Sr., 57, a native of Pensacola, Fla., and resident of Franklin, died Jan. 20 at Franklin Foundation Hospital.
Visitation will be Saturday at the Jones Funeral Home chapel in Franklin from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the chapel with burial following in the Franklin Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Liliac Todd of Franklin; two sons, Charles Todd Jr. and Shane Todd, both of Patterson; and two daughters, Tina Blackburn of Patterson and Natasha White of Galveston, Texas

William “Bill” King Thompson, 72, born Feb. 24, 1932, in New Orleans and a resident of Morgan City, Passed away in Houma on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005.
He is survived by one son, David J. Thompson and his wife, Sandy Thompson; his daughter, Jean Thompson Daigle and her husband, Jerry Daigle; his former wife, Dottie Thompson; his four grandchildren; his two great-grandchildren; and by a dear friend, Barbara Ganaway.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elenora Thompson; one son, William J. “Billy” Thompson; and by his brother, Robert Thompson.
He was the owner and operator of Thompson Marine Transportation and worked in the marine transportation industry for many years. He was also a past president of the Petroleum Club of Morgan City and a member of API. He would attend an annual retreat at Manresa.
Pallbearers to serve are B.A. “Red” Adams Sr., Burt Adams, Ken Theriot, R.G. “Bud” Williamson, Mike Domino and Maurice Roberie. Honorary pallbearers will be Doyle Berry and Bernie Hunter.
Visitation will be observed Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson conducted by Monsignor Green. Entombment will follow in the Morgan City Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1101 Main St., Patterson, LA 70392 and/or to Manresa, P.O. Box 89, Convent, LA 70723.
Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Nettie Rose Peterson, 74, a native of New Orleans and resident of Katy, Texas , died Wednesday in a Katy, Texas , hospital.
She is survived by her four daughters, Sandra Corkern, Julie Written, Annette Marie Pruewitt and Maria Linn Parrie, all of Katy, Texas ; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her sisters, Lydia Meekins of Baltimore and Sadie Cansler of Beaumont, Texas ; and her brothers, Don Patureau of Amelia and Ned Patureau of Berwick.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Schmidt Funeral Home chapel, in Katy, Texas .
