Bryan Herman Bailey
December 5, 1985 – May 21, 2005
Bryan Herman Bailey, 19, a native and resident of Morgan City, died Saturday, May 21, 2005, in Morgan City. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morgan City.
Bryan will always be remembered as quiet, humble and big-hearted. He loved pleasing others and would always do his best to be good to others. He was a beloved son and brother and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him and each life that he touched in his own special way.
He was the son of Herman Bailey and Robin Arceneaux Bailey of Morgan City.
He is also survived by his sister, Michelle Barousse and her husband, Brett, of Houston; his brother, Brennon Bailey of Morgan City; his maternal grandparents, Alfred and Judy Arceneaux of Morgan City; his paternal grandmother, Alma Glavin of Morgan City; and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Herman Leon Bailey Sr.
Pallbearers will include Brandon Conerly, Earl Duval, Ryan Flippin, Shane Thibodaux, Brennon Bailey and Dirk Arceneaux.
The family received friends from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morgan City. Funeral services were held at Holy Cross Catholic Church at 2 p.m. today, with the Rev. Josh Rodrigue officiating. interment was held in the Morgan City Cemetery.

Michael Wesley Duke
April 15, 1958 — May 24, 2005
Michael Wesley Duke, a resident of Morgan City, born April 15, 1958, in Baton Rouge, Passed away May 24, 2005, at the age of 47.
Michael was a man of many talents and careers. Michael was a loving and giving person all his life, and at his death, his last loving gift was the gift of sight by donating his eyes so that others could behold the beauty of this world that he saw in everyone and everything.
Michael was a member of the Morgan City bowling team for many years, where he would spend many hours, relaxing and perfecting his bowling skills to be one of Morgan City’s best bowlers. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing and golfing.
Michael dedicated many hours to his career. He worked for P.S.C., Oil Field Testers and Elite Graphics.
A time of remembrance and reflection will be observed today, May 25, 2005, from 6 p.m. 10 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City.
Visitation will resume Thursday, May 26, 2005, from 8 a.m. with a dismissal at 11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church commencing at noon with Father Bennie officiating. Michael will be laid to rest in the Franklin Perpetual Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Naquin Duke of Morgan City; his mother, Betty Jean Duke of Morgan City; his brother, Patrick Duke of Austin, Texas ; his godchild, Taylor Brocato of Morgan City; his best friends, Charlie and Lola Bergeron of Morgan City, Michele Brocato of Morgan City, John and Mary Levingston of Morgan City, and Mark Pennison, formerly of Morgan City and now of Atlanta; and his cats, Smokey and Tiger.
He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Duke; and his grandparents, Sonny and Vivian Estelle Hicks.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 614 Barrow Street, Houma, La. 70360.

Cornelia “Nick” Tabor Benoit, 96, a native of Amelia and resident of Morgan City, died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Morgan City Health Care Center in Morgan City.
Nick was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morgan City. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She loved working in her yard, giving great attention the flowers that she was so proud of. She loved people and will be remembered as a sweet and kind lady. She adored her friends and family, working hard at being the best wife, mother and grandmother that she could be. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was the daughter of the late Wallace Tabor and the late Josephine Thibodeaux Tabor.
She is survived by her daughter, Ray Lynn Guarisco, and her husband, Ray, of Morgan City; stepdaughter, Savannah LeGrande and her husband, Homer, of Breaux Bridge; stepson Norris Benoit and his wife, Lilly Mae, of Lafayette; and two grandchildren, Robert Guarisco of Baton Rouge and Gary Guarisco and his wife, Stacia, of Morgan City. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Eno Benoit; two brothers, Wilbur Tabor and Herbert Tabor; and two sisters, Jane Cowart and Georgie Blanchard.
The family would like to thank some precious people who assisted in the care of Nick. Katherine and Irvin Aucoin, thank you for the very special and loving way that you cared for Nick and for your genuine help and support. Also, to her other caregivers, Carolyn Sons and Genevieve Broussard. A special thank you is also given to the nurses and staff of Morgan City Healthcare, the sixth floor nursing staff at Teche Regional Medical Center, Dr. Alan Leung, M.D., and his wonderful staff, and to hospice.
Pallbearers to serve will be Robert Guarisco, Gary Guarisco, Larry LeGendre, Mike Kitchen, Errol Tabor and Irvin Aucoin.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, July 19, 2004, and from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morgan City at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2004, with Father Benny officiating. interment will be at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery in Amelia.

Joseph Paul Ruiz Sr., a native of New Orleans and a resident of Bayou L’Ourse for nearly 40 years, died early Monday morning at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City. He was 69 years old.
Mr. Ruiz was born on May 15, 1935, to his loving parents, Albert Charles and Jane Eugenia Eve Badeaux Ruiz. He was their only child.
On June 15, 1956, in Marrero, he married Jennie Helen Damico of Marrero. Together, they had six of the greatest children whom they together reared with strong family values and a generous amount of love.
Mr. Ruiz began his early career as an electrician. He then later retired from the Assumption Parish School Board, where he was a beloved bus driver and was known by many as “Mr. Joe.” Mr. Ruiz was also one of the founding members of the Bayou L’Ourse Athletic Association, an organization that he was a firm supporter of.
Mr. Ruiz served proudly in the United States Army where he was later honorably discharged.
Mr. Ruiz was a true American and had a strong love for politics. He was an avid radio talk show listener and had a special admiration for Rush Limbaugh.
Mr. Ruiz leaves behind many who had a great deal of respect for him as a kind and loving man. He will be truly missed by many.
Visitation will be today from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City. Visitation will resume Wednesday, July 21, 2004, from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Funeral services Wednesday, July 21, 2004, will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Amelia with Father Gregory Fratt officiating.
The East St. Mary Funeral Squad will present their comrade with the American flag and a 21-gun salute, for which he proudly gave of himself in defense of our great nation.
Mr. Ruiz will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery immediately following funeral services.
Mr. Ruiz is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 48 years, Jennie Damico Ruiz of Bayou L’Ourse; his six wonderful children, Jan Paul Ruiz and his wife, Cyndi, of Chackbay, Jane Marie Aucoin of Bayou L’Ourse, JoAnne Bergeron and her husband, Daniel, of Bayou Vista, Joan Elizabeth Stoot and her husband, Wayne, of Houma, and Albert Carl Ruiz and his wife, Stormy, and Joseph Paul Ruiz Jr. and his wife, Becky, all of Bayou L’Ourse.
He also is survived by his 15 grandchildren, Jason Bailey and his wife, Lauren, of Morgan City, Desiree Richard and her husband, Dwayne, of Berwick, and Terrance and Jonathan Aucoin, Misty and Chantal Ruiz, Bethany, Beverly and Bailey Ruiz, and Justin Hebert, all of Bayou L’Ourse, Joshua and Jade Ruiz of Amelia, Aimee and Abigail Bergeron of Bayou Vista, and Taylor Stoot of Houma; and his two great-grandchildren, Hannah Bailey and Briana Richard.
Mr. Ruiz also is survived by a good friend, Kristin Pellerin, and a host of loving relatives and friends.
Mr. Ruiz was preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law, Terrance J. Aucoin Sr.; one daughter-in-law, Nancy D. Ruiz; and one grandson, Jeffery Beadle Jr.
He will be sadly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of being in his never-dull company.

Alcide Savoie Sr., 87, a resident of Morgan City and DeQuincy and native of Patoutville, died at 7:35 p.m. Friday at DeQuincy Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held this morning at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin. interment followed at the Franklin Cemetery.
He is survived by his son, Darrell Savoie of DeQuincy; three daughters, Anna Theriot of Morgan City, Mary Lee Aucoin of Berwick and Beulah Bourliea of New Iberia; two sisters, Justalia "Jessie" Pinnell of South Carolina and Lillian Picard of Franklin; 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two sons, one son-in-law, three brothers and two grandchildren.
Arrangements were entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary of Franklin.

Mary Etta Stem Vantromp, 74, a resident of Patterson, was born Sept. 21, 1929, in Shelbyville, Tenn. She sadly Passed away June 16, 2004, at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Visitation will be observed today at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will resume Saturday at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until dismissal time at 12:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at Immanuel Baptist Church in Morgan City at 1 p.m. Saturday, and interment will follow in the Patterson Cemetery.
She is survived by her son, Jared Lee Vantromp of Patterson; her daughter, Peggy Story, and Mervin of Magnolia, Ark.; her daughter, Janie Crawford, of Bayou Vista; her daughter, Polly Himel and granddaughter, Jennifer Bailey, of Stephensville; her daughter, Mary Thompson, and Jason of Patterson; and her brother, Murphy Stem, of Unionville, Tenn.; her 16 grandchildren and her 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis Vantromp; and her 11 brothers.

Joy A. Miller, 69, a native of Denham Springs and a resident of New Roads, died Saturday, June 14, 2003 at 9:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, a Communion Steward, very active in the church, traveled extensively and made friends everywhere she went.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Niland’s Funeral Home in New Roads.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m., conducted by Pastor Aaron Carpenter and assisted by Msgr. Douglas Courville, at First United Methodist Church in New Roads. Burial will be in the False River Memorial Park Mausoleum.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Bill Miller of New Roads; one daughter, Lesley Martin and her husband, Joseph, of Broussard; one son, Mike Miller and his wife, Sharon, of New Roads; one sister, Melba Kittrell of Baton Rouge; one sister-in-law, Adele Miller Webb of Morgan City; two nieces, Phyllis Miller Porter of Baton Rouge and Lana Moran of Florida; eight grandchildren, Leah Campbell, Ryan Campbell, Alex Campbell, Megan Miller, Brittany Martin, Elise Martin, Timothy Martin and Hannah Martin.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Tracy Ann Miller.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Campbell, Alex Campbell, Joe Martin, Sammy Maggio, Glenn Nickens and John Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Ard and Dickey Barnett.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of choice.
Niland’s Funeral Service in New Roads is in charge of arrangements.

Jacob Anthony Gros, 19, of Stephensville died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morgan City.
Jacob loved the outdoors, specifically hunting, fishing and waterskiing.
He was the son of Junius Gros and Penny Landry Gros of Stephensville.
He is also survived by one sister, Raven M. Mendez and her husband, Jose, of Berwick; two brothers, Matthew J. Gros and Dustin J. Gros, both of Stephensville; his maternal grandparents, Leonard and Mazie Landry of Stephensville; maternal great-grandmother, Eva Landry of Stephensville; and paternal grandparents, Junius Gros Sr. and Agnes Gros of Stephensville.
He is also survived by his uncles, aunts, cousins and a host of friends.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Twin City Funeral Home, 412 Fourth St., Morgan City, where the family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. today with a rosary at 7 p.m.
Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m., the Rev. Josh Rodrigue officiating. interment will be in Morgan City Cemetery.
