LEE MAINER NICHOLS

Funeral services for Lee M. Nichols, 90, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at Jennings United Methodist Church. Burial with full military honors will be in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Matthews and Son Funeral Home of Jennings.

He died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004 in Jennings American Legion Hospital. Mr. Nichols was born July 14, 1914 and was raised in DeRidder. He worked for Cities Service Pipeline in Jennings for 35 years. He served in the U.S. Airforce in Europe during World War II.

He was very active in his community, having worked with the VFW, Cleanest City Contest, Optimist Club, Elks Club and Jennings Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed playing the trombone and was very artistic. He owned and operated Nichols Landing at Bundick Lake.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Cole Nichols; two daughters, Genny Lynn Cooper of Baton Rouge, and Karan Buhlen of Santa Fe, New Mexico; one son, Logan Nichols of Jennings; and six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He also had one brother, Wallace Nichols of DeRidder; and five sisters, Helen Green of Baton Rouge, Floye Herrington, Alice Cunningham, Joy Hudson and Mae Presley, all of DeRidder.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Lee and James Ellen Mainer Nichols and one sister, Mary Dameron.

ANNA MAGEE BENNETT

Anna MaGee Bennett, 89, of DeRidder, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004. Arrangements are pending at Myers Colonial in DeRidder, Louisiana .

WILLIS FRUSHA

Funeral services were held for Willis Frusha, age 79, of DeRidder, Louisiana , at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 8, 2004, at Hixson's Funeral Home, located at 210 North Pine St., DeRidder, Louisiana . interment will follow at Hopewell Cemetery near Bundick Lake. The Rev. Delbert Isbell and the Rev. William Kelly Harper officiated the services.

Mr. Frusha was a native and life long resident of Beauregard Parish. He graduated from Sugartown High School in 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include one son, Roy Frusha of Lafayette, Louisiana ; and two daughters, Rhonda L. Kisselburg of Scottsdale, Arizona and Rhoda Frusha Weems of Hazen, Arkansas. Mr. Frusha has four grandchildren, Jacqueline Kisselburg of Arizona, Robert Kade Jackson of DeRidder, Kacie A. Wilbur of DeRidder and Gabriel A. Frusha who is a senior at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado; two sisters, Marie Marks and husband Herman of New Iberia and Altha Honea and husband Dwane of DeRidder.

He was preceded in death by his parents Austin Frusha and Irene Bailey Frusha; his wife Lovie McCollough Frusha; one infant son, Roger Dale Frusha and one grandson Ryan H. Sterling of Baton Rouge.

He loved all of his family and he had a great sense of humor. He will be sadly missed.

Arrangements were entrusted to Hixson Funeral Home in DeRidder.

CLYDE MILTON PETTIFIELD

Funeral services for Clyde Milton Pettifield, 71, of DeQuincy, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12 at Myers Colonial Chapel in DeQuincy with Brother Ray borque officiating.

Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 11 beginning at 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. at Myers Colonial Chapel in DeQuincy.

He died Saturday, Oct 9, 2004 in Sulphur, Louisiana .

Survivors include two sons, Roger Pettifield of Louisiana and Gary Peterson of Tyler, Texas ; one daughter, Teri Denise Buxton of DeQuincy; three brothers, Charles Pettifield of DeQuincy, Bill Bettifield of Lake Charles and Randy Pettifield of Lake Charlesl four sisters, Cynthia Mears of Moss Bluff, Andra Riley of Mapleton, Minn., Sandra Felice of Lake Charles and Linda Frieses of Marietta, Ga; and two grandchildren.

HAROLD "DUBBIE" ASHWORTH

Funeral service for Harold "Dubbie" Ashworth, 74, of Singer, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at Singer Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Roger Herrington, Jeff Phillips, Charles Phillips and Samuel Ashworth officiating. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery in Singer under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. today and until service time Saturday at the church.

He died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at Singer.

He was in the logging industry for 40 years. He was in the Navy for three years and served in World War II. He was a member of Singer Pentecostal Church and loved to hunt rabbits with his beagles.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Thorn Ashworth of Singer; two sons, George R. Davis of Singer, John C. VanWinkle of Deweyville, Texas ; two daughters, Barbara Remedies of Singer, Julie Ashworth Stark of Lake Charles; three brothers, Paul Maxwell Ashworth, Wilbur "Rabbit" Ashworth and Roger Dale Ashworth, all of DeQuincy and James Ashworth of Singer; three sisters, Helen Radcliff of DeQuincy; and Inell Clark and Irene Nowell, both of DeRidder; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

MADELYN VERNIER GEOGHAGAN

Funeral services for Madelyn Vernier Geoghagan, 86, of DeRidder, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004 in Labby Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder. Rev. George Roger and Rev. Barry Trindle will officiate and burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in DeRidder.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday, at the funeral home.

She died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2004 in Rosepine Retirement and Rehabilitation Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Geoghagan; her parents, G.G. and Anna Vernier; and two brothers, Bill and Jack Vernier.

She was a native and life long resident of DeRidder and was a member of Texas Avenue Baptist Church in DeRidder. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Troylene and husband, Richard Busby of Sieper, La., Diane and husband, McKinley "Buddy" Kenner of Haughton, La.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

DESHIA GRAHAM

Funeral for DeShai Alohalani LaKeisha AnnRene Graham, 5, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at Norris Memorial C.O.G.I.C. in DeRidder, under the direction of Community Mortuary of DeRidder. She died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at a Lake Charles hospital.

CHARLES W. DAVIS

Private graveside services for Charles William "Bill" Davis, 69, of Dry Creek, were at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Dry Creek Cemetery under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home in DeRidder. He died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at Beauregard Memorial Hospital in DeRidder.

JESSIE L. GATSON

Funeral for Jessie L. Gatson, 67, of DeRidder, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2003, at God's Temple of Refuge in DeRidder, under the direction of Community Mortuary of DeRidder. He died Monday, April 14, 2003, at Beauregard Memorial Hospital.

PAUL E. JONES

Funeral for Paul E. Jones, 76, of DeQuincy, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 18, at Hargrove Baptist Church in DeQuincy, under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeQuincy. He died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, in DeQuincy.

LORENA MAE FRANKLIN

Funeral services for Lorena Mae Franklin, 69, of DeRidder will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at Hixson Funeral Home Chapel in DeRidder. Rev. George Swain will officiate.

Burial will be in Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder.

Visitation will be today, Dec.3 from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 4 from 8 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

She died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 at Beauregard Memorial Hospital in DeRidder.

Mrs. Franklin was born in Belldeau and lived in DeRidder for approximately 18 years.

Survivors include her husband, James C. Franklin of DeRidder; one daughter, Janice Rico of Moreauville; three sons, George Broussard of Hamburg, Terry Franklin of DeRidder, and Travis L. Franklin of Rosepine; 17 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and her mother, Bessie Gauthier of Belldeau.

DOROTHY MAE JOHNSON

Funeral service for Mrs. Dorothy Johnson - Johnson , 56, of DeRidder, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4 at Beauregard Church of Christ in DeRidder. Rev. Jasper Newsome will officiate.

Burial will be in Community Cemetery under the direction of Community Mortuary in DeRidder.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4 at the funeral home.

She died at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at the Grace Home in Shreveport.

Mrs. Johnson was preceeded in death by her husband of 33 years, William Johnson , Sr and grandson, Kobe Bryant.

Survivors include two daughters, Tamika Johnson and Tamara Bryant (Juan); one grandson, DeMarcus Buckley of Shreveport; two sisters, Wanda Johnson of DeRidder and Carrie Jones of Houston, Texas ; two brothers, Robert Johnson , Jr. of DeRidder and Paul Erwin of Houston, Texas ; and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

PURVIS LEWIS

Funeral services for Purvis Lewis, 91, of DeRidder will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5 at New Hope CME Church. The Rev. Louis Guy will officiate.

Burial will be in Community Cemetery in DeRidder under the direction of Community Mortuary.

He died Nov. 29, 2003 in DeRidder.

He was born April 7, 1912 in Northwood. He moved, at the age of two,with his family to DeRidder and resided on Railroad Ave where he lived until 1999. He then became a resident of Beauregard Nursing Home. During his lifetime, he started a Voters Registration League, serving as president, registering over 500 citizens as voters. In 1944, he began business as owner and operator of Lewis Store at Railroad Ave and Calcasieu Street. He operated this business for 46 years while staying active in Community Concerns.

Survivors include one son, Purvis L. Lewis, Sr. of Crosby, Texas ; two daughters, Kathy Lewis of Houston, Texas and Brenda Lewis Bell of DeRidder; 21 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
