Clara Habetz
Roberts Cove - Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 24, 2006 at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Leo Catholic Church in Roberts Cove for Clara Mary Habetz, 91, who, after a short illness, Passed away at 2:05 a.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at Southwind Nursing Home in Crowley.
interment will be in St. Leo Cemetery in Roberts Cove.
Survivors include: one brother,, William “Bill” Habetz and his wife Agnes from Ragley; four sisters, Sr. Marie Habetz C.D.P. Sister of Divine Providence of San Antonio, Texas , Cecilia H. Zaunbrecher of Crowley, Bernardine H. Leonards and husband Blaise from Mamou, and Bertha H. Owen from Saltillo, Mexico; one sister-in-law, Joyce L. Habetz; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, Wilhelm Habetz and Franziska Theunissen; five brothers, Pirmin Habetz and his wife Frances, Msgr Daniel Habetz, Anton Habetz, Martin Habetz, and Joseph P. Habetz and his wife Rita; one sister, Hilda Habetz, and two brothers-in-law, Paul Zaunbrecher and Gerard Owen.
She was the daughter of Joseph Wilhelm Habetz, born in Birgden, Kreuzrath near Aachen Germany and who settled in Roberts Cove in 1896, and Franziska Theunissen Habetz, born in Roberts Cove. The Theunissens settled in the area in 1881.
During Clara’s lifetime, she was a priest housekeeper since 1940, church sacristan since 1942 until 1990, and parish organist since 1935 to this day.
A member of St. Leo’s Altar Society for over 70 years, she served as secretary for several terms. A member of Acadia Parish Serra Club, she served as vice president of vocations. Their goal: fostering and encouraging vocations to the priesthood and religious life. She was a charter member of Court St. Leo #2168 Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Past regent for two terms, Miss Habetz has served in many capacities, and attended several state and national CDA conventions. Her pride and joy was the CDA Juniorettes, girls and boys, five thru ten years of age. For the Germanfest, she worked with the children teaching them German songs and dances. The children’s group is known as Kinder Auftritt.
In 1970 she received the Papal Award, “Benemerenti” from Pope Paul II as one of her most outstanding rewards for church services. In 1992 she was awarded the “Bishop Medal” by Bishop Flynn, for devoted service award. In 1985, the Centennial year for the St. Leo’s Parish, a new Casavant pipe organ was installed. Miss Habetz was on the committee to select the organ. A recital and unveiling of a marble plaque, dedicating the rectial and organ to Miss Habetz, who was celebrating her 50th year as organist for the parish. She loved to travel, especially on tours. One of her most impressive one was to the Holy Land.
She was a member of Roberts Cove Home Demonstration Club, now known as Roberts Cove F.C. E. and had served as vice president and president of the club for several years. She was elected as president of Acadia Parish Council for four years, and received her 50-year member award, and also the Key Award. In 1998 Miss Clara was named as a “Women of Achievement” in the Rayne Acadian Tribune, an inspiring biography, including her many activities.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to Sisters of Mt. Carmel Carmelite Spirituality Center P.O. Box 130 Lacombe, LA 70445, and to the burst of Msgr. Daniel Habetz, the checks are to be made to the Diocese of Lafayette Office of Seminary P.O. Box 3387 Lafayette, LA 70502.
A rosary was recited Wednesday at 11:00 a.m, 4:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m.and 7:30 p.m. The family requested that the visiting hours be observed Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until service time.
Pallbearers will be Michael Habetz, Tim Zaunbrecher, Carl Habetz-godchild, Daniel Leonards-godchild, Pirmin Habetz, Jr., Hilary Habetz
Honorary pallbearers are Patrica Augustine, April Dupuis

Ethel Marie Roach Hutchinson
Duson - Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, August 24, 2006, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Theresa Catholic Church for Ethel Marie Roach Hutchinson, 83, who died Tuesday, August 21, 2006 ,in Medical Center of Southwest Louisiana .
interment will be in St. Theresa Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Harry "Bud" Hutchinson, of Duson; two daughters, Harriet O'Brien, of Duson, and Gretchen Branch and husband Joe, of Baton Rouge; one grandson, Brett Babineaux, of Mire; one brother, Calvin Roach and wife Masil, of Lafayette; two sisters, Lula Shelton and husband John, of Mire, and Genevieve Hulin, of Mire; special niece and nephew, Ellie and Marshall Sonnier.
She was preceded in death by parents, Marciel Roach and MaryJane Arabie Roach; three sisters, Eloise Sonnier, Yolande Sonnier, and Wilma LeBlanc ; and one special nephew, Ronnie Sonnier.
Mrs. Hutchinson was a member of the Duson Lions Club, Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W.. She also was a librarian, and substitute teacher at Duson Elementary, and a Catechism teacher.
A rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.
The family requested that the visiting hours be observed Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until service time.
Donations can be made in Mrs. Hutchinson’s name to LA Eye Foundation 2020 Gravier Ste 13, New Orleans, LA 70012 or Lions Crippled Children’s Camp P.O. Box 171, Leesville, LA 71496-0171.

Pallbearers will be Brett Babineaux, John Meyers, Marshall Sonnier, Josef Shaw, Joe Branch and Justin Gildersleeve. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Duson Lions Club.

Viola Mae Senegal Mouton
Lafayette - Funeral services were held Saturday, August 19, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Family Life Christian Fellowship for Viola Mae Senegal Mouton, 50, who Passed away Monday, August 14, 2006, at Southwest Medical Center. Pastor Todd Menard officiated at the services.
interment was in St. Benedict de Moor Church Cemetery in Duson.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Ray Mouton of Duson; one daughter, Twana Patrisse Lafaye Francis (Elton Bernard, Jr.) of Rayne; one sister, Anne Daryl Senegal of Rayne; two brothers, Nelson (Kathleen) Senegal of Jonesboro, Ga., and Michael (Shelly) Senegal of Union City, Ga.; two nieces, Ravin and Elonne Senegal; two nephews, Darryl (Renee) Senegal of Jonesboro, Ga., and Drew Senegal of Rayne; aunts, Mildred (Dallas) Simon, Ethel (Ernest) Augustus, Mary Lee Beverly and Theresa Senegal all of Rayne; her best friend, Robin Leblanc and her son Noah. She is survived by a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nelson Senegal, Sr. and Hazel Senegal.
Visitation was held Saturday, August 19, 2006, at Family Life Christian Fellowship, 2223 Dulles Drive, Lafayette, from 8 a.m. until time of services.
Syrie Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Paul Louis Trahan
Memorial services will held at a later date for Paul Louis Trahan, 57, who died Monday, August 14, 2006, in Rayne.
Survivors include his wife, Ida Mae Trahan, of Rayne; sons, Paul James Trahan and wife Jessica, of Church Point, Brian Keith Trahan, Rayne, and Brandon James Trahan, Rayne; three brothers, Ernest Trahan, Donald Trahan, and Rodney Trahan, all of Scott; five sisters, Shirley Richardson, of Lafayette, Julia Moore, of Maurice, Betty Guidry, of Opelousas, Linda Smith, of Mire, and Cheryl Miller, of Lake Arthur.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Janus Trahan and Zula Mae Aucoin Trahan; one brother, Howard Trahan; and one sister, Barbara Savoie.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Lillian H. Credeur
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006, in St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Scott, with Father Gil Dutel officiating, for Lillian H. Credeur, 89, of Lafayette, who died at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, in Magnolia Estates Nursing Home in Lafayette.
Burial was in the St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Scott.
Visitation was observed Friday from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until time of service.
She is survived by two daughters, Agnes Gentry of Lake Charles and Mrs. Jimmy (Shirley) Ingram of Quitman; two sons, Ray Thibodeaux and wife Becky of Lacassine and Raymond Navarre and wife Joyce of Lafayette; two stepdaughters, Brenda Meche and Dot Credeur, both of Lafayette; one stepson, Gilbert Credeur, Alexandria; one brother, John Hebert and wife Wanda, Lafayette; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Gervais Thibodeaux and Ophe Credeur; one daughter, Rhena Navarre Baird; one stepdaughter, Nelda Abshire; her parents, Emma Mouton and Adraus Hebert; three sisters, Anna Credeur, Beulah Guilbeau, and Marie Viator; and seven brothers, Clifton, Clinton, Hector, Wilson, Dudley, Simon and Weston Hebert.
A native of Ossun and a resident of Lafayette Parish, she also lived three decades in Lake Charles.
Lillian loved her family dearly and was known to them Tante’ Yuon. She was a homemaker and her job was to serve visitors coffee, cake and root beer. She was a member of the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Scott for the past 24 years.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral services.

Bernice “Bonnie” Holmes
Memorial services were held Saturday, August 12, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. in Our Savior Church, 655 Hwy 96, Broussard, for Bernice “Bonnie” Holmes, age 76, the former Bernice Guidry, who Passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.
Pastor Jacob Aranza officiated at the services. Musicial selections were provided by Katherine Baudoin.
Bonnie, born September 26, 1929 in Rayne, spent many of her years living in Southern California, returning to her native state in 1999 to be near family. Golf, sewing, gardening, decorating, cooking, and traveling were just a few of the many things she took joy and pride in doing.
Bonnie was very involved with her church in Chula Vista, California, where she sang in the choir and participated in theatrical performances. One of her most memorable travels was visiting the Holy Land. She has gone to the Holy Land forever- Heaven.
Survivors include two sons, Carlen Melancon of St. Augustine, Fla., and Tim Melancon and his wife, Dailene, of Lafayette; one sister, Joyce Royer and her husband, Elmo, of Duson; four brothers, Pergie Guidry of Duson, Gavis Guidry and his wife, Nora, of Rayne, Liney Guidry and his wife, Joyce, of Mire and Jimmy Guidry of Rayne; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Beitman and her husband, Donnie, of Lafayette, Lacey Moncla and her husband, Matt, of Lafayette, Jamie Smith and her husband, Jason, of Plano, Texas , Shelbi Royer and her husband, Mark, of Rocklin, Calif., Tara Lee of Ramona, Calif., Jesse Melancon and Alisha Melancon of Lafayette and five great grandchildren, Hannah, Tyler and Emily Beitman of Lafayette, Jaxon Moncla of Lafayette and Chase Tilley of Ramona, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles S. Holmes; her parents, Clarence and Elia Cormier Guidry; her brothers, Preston Guidry of New Orleans, Gurdy Guidry of Rayne and Herbert Guidry of Duson.

Ruby Credeur
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2006, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Father Brian Taylor officiating, for Ruby Credeur, 71, of Rayne, who died at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, August 10, 2006, in the Rayne Guest Home.
Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery No. 2 in Rayne.
She is survived by three daughters, Linda Simon, Tyron, Ga., and Jane LaGrange and Lena Meche, both of Rayne; three sons, Maurice Melancon, Atlanta, Ga., Nick Melancon, Abbeville, and John Melancon, Gulfport, Miss.; two brothers, Vin Credeur and Davis Lee Credeur, both of Duson; two sisters, Jerry Landry, Sulphur, and Gail Desmoreaux, Scott; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Orluse Credeur and Mrs. Uta Mier Credeur; two brothers, C.J. Credeur and L.J. Credeur; and one sister, Pat Monceaux.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Marie Louise Leger Arsement
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2006, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Marie Louise Leger Arsement, 88, who died Wednesday, August 9, 2006; at 11:55 p.m. in Lafayette General Medical Center.
interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery #2.
Survivors include a special niece, Olite Arceneaux and husband Lionel, of Lafayette; and two special nephews, Harold Breaux and wife Norma, of Scott, and Welvan Leger, of New Iberia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vinton “Pete” Arsement; parents, Clabert Leger and Eva Doucet Leger; five sisters; and three brothers.
A rosary was recited at 6:00 p.m. Friday.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed Friday from 10:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until services.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Harold “Poochie” James Leger
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel, with Father Francis Bourgeois officiating, for Harold “Poochie” James Leger, 62, of Rayne, who died at 7:50 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, 2006, at his residence.
Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery No. 2 in Rayne.
A rosary was recited Friday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Visitation was observed on Friday from 5:30 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Leger, Rayne; one son, Gregory Leger, Katie, Texas ; two daughters, Connie Racca, Rayne, and Josette Reed, Gonzales; one brother, Francis Leger, Lafayette; and six grandchildren.
Mr. Leger was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Ferninand Leger and Mrs. Cecile Smith Leger.
Mr. Harold was a welder for offshore Entergy for 12 years. He loved to fish and he also built bird houses, enjoying his birds. He also did gardening and listened to French music. He loved to let the grandchildren go in the garden and pick their own vegetables.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.
