Laura Mae Sonnier Habetz
Rayne - Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2006, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Laura Mae Sonnier Habetz, 63, who died Friday, August 11, 2006, in Lafayette.
interment was in St. Leo Cemetery in Roberts Cove.
Survivors include one daughter, Ashley Habetz, of Rayne; one son, Dwight Habetz and wife Giselle, of Roberts Cove; one grandson, Chase Habetz, of Roberts Cove; and one brother, Ronald Sonnier and wife Diane, of Rayne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Habetz; one son, Gregory Jude Habetz; and parents, Dupre Sonnier and Aline Trahan Sonnier.
A rosary recited at 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Sunday.
The family requested that the visiting hours be observed Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Monday from 8:00 a.m. until services.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Francis S. Jordan
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley, with the Rev. Lloyd Singley officiating, for Francis S. Jordan, 80, of Crowley, who died at 1:35 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006, in the Crowley Guest Home.
Burial was in the Arceneaux Cemetery in Mire.
Visitation was Monday from 9 a.m. until time of services.
Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Adam Sonnier
Adam Sonnier was called to eternal life in Christ at the age of 87 on Monday, August 14, 2006, at 2:15 a.m. at his home in rural Kaplan.
The Rite of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2006, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Leroy, La., with Father Greg Semien officiating.
interment was in the Leroy Cemetery Mausoleum No. 1 and included a military salute and taps under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne.
Visitation was observed Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to time of service.
He began his life in Wright near Gueydan, the oldest son of Theodore and Azetilde Lege Sonnier. He served in the Army in World War II in the European Theater, and returned home to finish his studies at SLI , now ULL.
He taught high school sciences and agriculture at Indian Bayou High School and became principal in 1966. He received his master’s degree plus 30 hours from LSU and continued at IBHS until his retirement in 1979.
He was ordained to the permanent diaconate in the Diocese of Lafayette on August 10, 1980 and served in Parks, Loreauville and Leroy before being appointed to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne, where he served for sixteen years until his retirement in 1999. He served as administrator of the Christian Service Center during that time, among other duties.
He had the privilege of baptizing six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren during this time.
He served in various capacities in the following organizations during this adult life: Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lay Carmelites, Knights of Peter Calver and school organizations (Boy Scouts and Future Farmers of America.)
He is survived by four children: Marlene S. Foreman and her husband Jim, of Rayne, Annette S. Rice of Rayne, Francis Sonnier of New Iberia, and Teresa S. Leonard and her husband, Mark, of New Iberia. His nine grandchildren are Christopher, Melanie and Jonathan Foreman and his wife, Kim T. Foreman, Albert Nolan, Jr., and Jude Ride; and Aaron, Mitchell, Brian and Sarah Leonard. His three great-grandchildren are Brock and Austin Nolan and Kaycee Foreman. He is survived by two brothers, Rev. Alcide Sonnier and Ivy Sonnier, and one sister, Agnes S. Guillory. He is also survived by his faithful caregivers, Vivian Rougeau and family and caregiver of five years Carolyn Gary and her family
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 51 years, Ena C. Descant Sonnier; his parents, Theodore Sonnier and Azetilde Lege; one sister, Yvonne S. Derrick; and one brother, T.J. Sonnier.
Pallbearers were Francis Sonnier, Jonathan Foreman, Jude Rice, Aaron, Mitchell and Brian Leonard.
Throughout his years of service, he touched many lives. He was known, loved and respected by many in his community and beyond.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Acadiana, Inc., or the Diocese of Lafayette Permanent Diaconate Fund.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Estelle Courville
Eunice-Funeral services for Mrs. Estelle Courville, were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 13, 2006, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Eunice with Father Cedric Sonnier officiating. Burial followed in the St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery.
Mrs. Courville, age 89, a resident of Eunice, died on Saturday, August 12, 2006, at Acadian Medical Center in Eunice. Mrs Courville was a homemaker.
Survivors include her son, J. Hebert Courville and special friend Marie Richard of Beaumont, Texas ; two daughters, Myrtice Menard and husband, Lloyd Menard, Sr. of Eunice, and Loretta Bordes and husband, Pat of Rayne; one brother, Elzie Cormier and wife Marjorie of Eunice; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one deceased great-grandson Trey Bordes, five great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Courville was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Courville.

Loreda Bellard Bergeron
Loreda Bellard Bergeron, 74, of Lake Charles, Passed away at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2006, in her daughter’s residence.
Mrs. Bergeron was born July 7, 1932 in Church Point, and after residing for many years in Rayne, moved to Lake Charles where she resided for the past 15 years. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Lake Charles, where she served as an Eucharistic minister and was a member of the Legion of Mary.
She was a devoted mother, loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She volunteered with The Foster Grandparents Program at Pearl Watson Elementary School the last seven years.
She was a waitress and hairdresser for a number of years.
Mrs. Bergeron is survived by four daughters: Louella T. Higginbotham and husband Donald of Church Point, Della Higginbotham of Lafayette, Jennifer Odom and husband Timothy of Lake Charles, and Mona White and husband Joseph of Lake Charles; two sons, John Randall Bergeron of Lake Charles and Shannon Rene’ Bergeron and partner Thomas Fletcher of New Orleans; ten grandchildren: Sharyn Marceaux and husband Robert Keith, Kathryn Higginbotham, Phillip Higg-inbotham and wife Manjula, Emmy Higgin-botham and fiancé Patrick Jones, Jodi Josette Webb and husband James, Thomas Jonathon Moore, Alexander Joseph White , Cristin Bergeron Trahan and husband Ricky, Courtney Bergeron, and Santana Fletcher; five great grandchildren: Brailen Robert Marceaux, Jennifer Dene’ Webb, Caitlynn Denise Kirk, Ricky Earl Trahan, Jr. and Seth Louis Trahan; and sister Elsie Jane Foreman and husband Maurice of Lafayette. She is also survived by her foster son, Joseph Bradley Stiglets.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Berchman and Della LeJeune Bellard; the fathers of her children; sons, Joseph Thibodeaux and William Nelson Thibodeaux; and brother, Abram Chester Bellard.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 14, 2006, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Rev. Aubrey Guilbeau officiated.
Burial followed at Consolata Cemetery.
Visitation was observed at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles on Sunday, August 13, 2006, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary held at 6:00 p.m., and on Monday, August 13, 2006, from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
Pallbearers for the service were T. J. Moore, Phillip Higginbotham, Coby Foreman, James Webb, IV, Robbie Marceaux and Peter Calcagno.
The family would like to express a special word of thanks to Odyssey Hospice and especially “My Raquel”.

Steve R. LeBlanc
Funeral services were held Monday Aug. 7, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Steve R. LeBlanc , 62, who died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Loida H. LeBlanc of Rayne; two sons and their wives, Chris and Celeste LeBlanc of Raleigh NC., and Barret and Annie LeBlanc of Baton Rouge; four grandchildren, Erin and Garrett LeBlanc of Raleigh NC., and Luc and Eli LeBlanc of Baton Rouge. He was also survived by dedicated friends especially Jerrie LeBlanc .
He was preceded in death by his father Clet LeBlanc .
Mr. LeBlanc was a 1962 graduate of Rayne High School, and attended U.S.L. for three years were he was member of Lambda Chi Alpha. He completed courses in watchmaking, jewelry repair and diamond setting at NTS in Natchitoches La., following jobs in Breaux Bridge and Lafayette. He opened, owned and operated LeBlanc ’s Jewelry in Rayne for several years.
Mr. LeBlanc was a dedicated member of the Rayne Y.M.B.C. for over twenty years, past member of the American Watchmakers Institute, and was a charter member of the Rayne Chamber of Commerce serving on the temporary board. He liked swimming, reading and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also active in the Rayne Recreation youth baseball program for several years.
Visitation was observed Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006, from 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. and Monday from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.
Burial was in the Old St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Larry J. Viator
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 8, 2006, at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Larry J. Viator, age 59, who Passed away Saturday, August 5, 2006 ,at 10:00 p.m. at his residence in Duson.
interment was in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Grand Coteau. The Rev. Bill Melancon, pastor of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, officiated at the services.
Mr. Viator was a native of Maurice and a resident of Duson for most of his life. He was a former co-owner and operator of Mel’s Seafood in Lafayette for 18 years. He was a beloved father and business owner.
Survivors include one daughter, Tracey Viator of Duson; four sisters, Beulah Melancon of Rayne, Marilyn “Lynn” Soileaux and her husband, Elton, of Rayne; Kathy “Faye” Noel and her husband, Howard, of Grand Coteau, and Laura Mae “Docey” Viator of Grand Coteau; a special friend, Lucy Moreau of Lafayette; and dearly loved by several nieces, nephews, friends and family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie Viator and the former Grace Harrington; and by one brother, Ralph “Peter” Viator.
A rosary was prayed at 7:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 9:00 a.m. until midnight Monday and continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Claudette LeBlanc from Leading Health and to Hospice of Acadiana.
Pallbearers were Joe Viator, Gerard Boudreaux, Shawn Defoe, Jason Deckard, David Noel, and Howard Noel.
Honorary pallbearers were Henry Soileaux, and Darrell Soileaux.

Joseph Percy Breaux
WHARTON, TEXAS –– Mr. Joseph Percy Breaux, 77, of Wharton, Texas , died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, in a Houston hospital following a brief illness. He was born on Oct. 24, 1928, in Crowley, the son of the late Delmas Breaux and Evelia Hebert Breaux.
Mr. Breaux and his late wife, Inez T. Arceneaux Breaux, were residents of Wharton since 1978. He was preceded in death by Mrs. Inez Breaux who died on Jan. 28, 2001. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Leonard Breaux; one grandson, David Breaux; and a former wife, Mildred Sittig.
Mr. Breaux served in the National Guard and was placed on active duty in the U.S. Army when the Korean War started. He served with Btry. C., 187 FA Observation Battalion. He served 13 months on the front lines in the Korean War, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars and several other medals. He received an honorable discharge Sept. 10, 1952.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton and was a very close friend of the late Father Joe Koebel. He had worked for Barbins Novelty Co. in Crowley, for Keton Novelty Co. in Wharton, and Lane Star Cleaners, part-time until his death.
He enjoyed cooking, woodworking, putting together vintage model cards and trucks, working with electronics and fishing. He enjoyed family, home and Cajun music.
A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m.Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006 at the Chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home with Deacon Alvin Matthys officiating.
A Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Roger Hawes officiating.
Graveside services followed at the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post 87 of Wharton.
Survivors include one son, Richard Breaux, Iota; daughters, Bonnie Fergerson, Houston, Texas , Mona Woodward, Moss Bluff, Monora “Cookie” Broussard, Iowa, La.; stepdaughters, Mylinda Foreman, Kaplan, and Shelby Thibodeaux, Rayne; stepsons, Shelton Terro of New Iberia and Timothy Terro, Rayne; grandchildren, Ricky Breaux, Tommy Breaux, Josh Breaux, Terri Middleton, Trisha Seagler, Micah Woodward, Rabhel Bourque, Jennifer Woodward, Michael Broussard, Grady Broussard, and Crystal Broussard; seven great-grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Donald Foreman, Tommy Breaux, David Cormier, Doug Middleton, Lupe Castillo, and Bill Ansley.
Honorary pallbearers were Frank Heikamp, John Helkamp, Tres Anlsey, Joel Ansley, Micah Woodward, Michael Gomez, Sr., Michael Gomez, II, JOhn Price, Sr., J.J. Price and all of his fellow coworkers at Lone Star Cleaners and his many friends and neighbor.
In lieu of usual remembrances, the family requests memorials to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 15186, Austin, Texas 78761.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home, 515 Boling, Hwy., Wharton, Texas .
