Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2006, in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel, with Msgr. Russell Harrington officiating, for Eula Sonnier Lavergne, 89, of Rayne, who died at 9:30 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2006, in Magnolia Estates in Lafayette.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday in the Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation was observed from 6 to 11 p.m. Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
She is survived by two brothers, Burton and Bernice Sonnier, both of Mire; one sister Willie Dell and Lennis Navarre, Rayne; and two God sent angels, Marcella Gildersleve and Dona Gildersleve.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry Lavergne; her parents, Eva Bouillion and Dermas Sonnier; two sisters, Lillie Mae Broussard and Nella Guidry; one brother, Herbert Sonnier; one step-brother, Sylvin Bearb; and her stepmother, Odette Sonnier.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Anissa Carrie Langner
Rayne - Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 10, 2006, at a Mass of Christian Burial for Anissa Carrie Langner, 8, who died Monday, August 7, 2006.
interment will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Scott.
Survivors include her mother, Theresa Guidry, of Duson; father and step- mother, Richard Langner, Sr. and Rosanna, of Scott; one sister, Chelsea Guidry, of Duson; one brother, Richard Langner, Jr., of Duson; maternal grandparents, Patsy and Larry Clark, of Duson, and Joseph Guidry, Jr., of Indian Bayou, paternal grandparents, Laura Weathersby, of Cypress, Texas , and Brad Weathersby, of Cypress, Texas .
She was preceded in death by maternal great-grandmother, Theresa Girard; maternal great-grandfather, Charles Girard, Sr.; paternal great-grandfather, John Gordy; and two uncles, Steven Girard and Charles Girard, Jr..
A rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.
The family requested that the visiting hours be observed Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until services Thursday.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Mildred “Pat” Venable
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, in the Assumption Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Mire, with Msgr. Russell Harrington officiating, for Mildred “Pat” Venable, 56, of Mire, who died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006, at 7:10 p.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Visitation was observed on Thursday from 7 p.m. until time of services on Friday.
A rosary was recited Thursday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Burial was in Assumption Cemetery in Mire.
She is survived by her husband, Berchman Venable, Jr., Mire; two sons, and spouses, Kevin and Mary Venable, Lafayette, and Chad Venable, Mire; one daughter, Tammy Venable, Mire; two sisters, Helen Choates, Lafayette, and Lula Maddox, DeRidder; and one grandson, Eddie Lee Williams.
Mrs. Venable was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Cleveland Arceneaux and Mrs. Josephine Lantier Arceneaux; mother and father-in-law, Mr. Berchman and Mrs. Laurence Latiolais Venable, Sr.; one brother and spouse, Stoney and Rose Arceneaux; three sisters and spouses, Gladys and Adam Guilbeaux, Theresa and James Miller; and Bella and Edward Hebert.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Braxton Jude Francis
Rayne - Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2006, at a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church for Braxton Jude Francis, 46, who died Tuesday, February 21, 2006, in Crowley’s American Legion Hospital.
interment was in Our Mother of Mercy Cemetery. Survivors include his mother and father, Lee Anna Bias Francis and Lollo Francis, Sr., both of Rayne; two brothers, Lollo J. "Christine" Francis, Jr., of Lake Charles, and Ray A. Francis, of Rayne; one sister, Connie Francis, of Rayne; two aunts, Beatrice Babineaux, of Rayne, and Mable Citizen, of Rayne; one great aunt, Helen Guidry, of Crowley; one niece; two nephews; a host of great nieces and nephews and family and friends.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Gayle James Francis.
The family requested that the visiting hours be observed at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until service time.
Arrangement were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Clyde William Williams
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS –– Clyde William Williams, Passed away February 17, 2006, in Humble, Texas .
He was born January 30, 1919 in Brownsville, Texas , to parents Clyde and Otilia (Fragoso) Williams.
After graduating from Weslaco High School in 1943, he went into the Army Air Corp and served in China until being honorably discharged.
Following his military service, Bill came home and went to work in Rayne, Louisiana , and continued his career path in Texas as the manager of B. F. Goodrich Stores in Brownsville, Alice, Weslaco and Corpus Christi.
He moved on in 1973 as Refinery Operator at Coastal State Refinery in Corpus Christi.
He loved to cook barbecue for his fellow employees in his off-time and his neighbors and family. He was a Mason and a member of the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Williams.
He left behind his loving and faithful wife of 60 years, Martha Estelle Johnston Williams; daughter, Joanie Williams Newberry and her husband, John Newberry; daughter, Ginger Williams Dieter and her husband, James Dieter; daughter, Carolyn Williams Riley; sons, Clyde William (Billy) Williams, Jr. and Richard Osborn Williams; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.
Services were held on Monday, February 20, 2006, at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi, Texas .
Funeral arrangments were conducted by Seaside Funeral Home of Corpus Christi, Texas .

Rodney Joseph Trahan
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2006, in St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church in Scott, with Father Leonards officiating, for Rodney Joseph Trahan, 80, of Scott, who died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, in the funeral home chapel.
Burial was in St. Peter and St. Paul Cemetery in Scott.
Visitation was observed on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Trahan, Scott; one daughter and her spouse, Connie and Joe Vasseur, Scott; one brother, Austin Trahan, Scott; three sisters, Beulah Meche, Rayne, and Mabel Brasseaux and Alma Jane Gaspard, both of Scott; two grandchildren, Julie Blackwell and Trvis Vasseur; and one great-grandson, Chase Vasseur.
Mr. Trahan was preceded in death by his parents, Alexis and Armance Falcon Trahan, and one sister, Eula Guilbeau.
Mr. Trahan was a member of the VFW in Judice. He also belonged to the Americcan Legion Post 77 of Rayne. He was a past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus in Duson. He was a secretary of Farm Bureau.
He gave himself in all aspects of life whatever he was asked to do.
Pallbearers were Jack Montoucet, Elwood J. Credeur, Jr., Kenneth Credeur, Travis Vasseur, Austin Trahan, Paul Blackwell, Michael Credeur, Ronnie Duplantis, and Charles Spaetgens.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Barbara C. Yokum
Rayne - Funeral services will be held Friday, March 3, 2006, at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church for Barbara C. Yokum, 72, who Passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at Christian Villa Nursing Home in Crowley. Fr. Richard Wagner, SSJ will be the celebrant of the Mass.
interment will be in Rayne Protestant Cemetery.
An educator in Acadia Parish for over 25 years, she also served as a minister of music in churches throughout Acadia Parish. Her dedication to family, her love and loyalty to friends will be deeply missed. She was a lover of pets and true person at heart.
She is survived by one sister, Myrtle Stephen of Phoenix, Arizona; step- sisters, Carolyn Granger of Fairfield, Calif., Norma Jean McDaniels of Jackson ville, Fla. and JoAnn Miller of Conway, Ark.; two nieces, Larkiyn Knox of Beaumont, Texas , and Yvette Sinegal of Rayne; one nephew, Dr. Kenneth Dorsey of Pearland, Texas . She is also survived by a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Emma Chapman, and father, Joseph Chapman; one sister, Margaret Owens; one brother, Marshall Granger, and numerous other relatives.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 3, 2006, at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church from 8 a.m. until time of services with a rosary to be recited at 9:15 a.m.
Syrie Funeral Home, Inc. of Lafayette is in charge of arrangements.
ERPHIE SIMON, owner of Simon Television Service, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Crowley’s American Legion Hospital. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Gossen Funeral Home. Visitation will be observed Wednesday from 2 to 10 p.m. and from 8 a.m. until services Thursday.

VIRGINA ROBIN of Duson Passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 6:46 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Gossen Funeral Home.

Evelyn Williams Besse
Mire - Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at a Mass of Christian Burial in Assumption of the BVM Cathloic Church for Evelyn Williams Besse, 95, who died Saturday, February 11, 2006, in Rehabilitation Hospital of Acadiana in Lafayette.
interment was in Assumption of the BVM Cemetery.
The Very Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington, pastor of Assumption of the BVM Catholic Church was the celebrant of the funeral Mass and conducted the funeral services. Valerie Andrus, organist, sang for the services, Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art, Ave Maria, Old Rugged Cross.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph Orton Besse, Jr. and wife Lorena Arceneaux Besse, of Scott, William Mchael Besse and wife Mary Daigle Besse, of Houma; nine grandchildren, Mary Kay Besse, of Scott, Peter A. Besse, of Scott, Judy Anne Besse Irvine, Calif., Mark T. Besse, of Scott, Michele Besse Cunningham, of Houma, Mickey Besse, Henderson, Kentucky, Marty Besse, Newburg, Ind., Monty Besse, of Baton Rouge, Matthew Besse, of Harahan; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Williams Morgan, of Lemon Grove, Calif.; four nephews and five nieces.
Mrs. Besse was a native of Yazoo County, Mississippi. She moved to Rayne, in 1937 and was the owner of Besse’s Firestone Store in Rayne from 1941 to 1972 and was one of the first female entrepreneurs in Louisiana . She worked for Olen Mills Studios for five years and then became associated with her son in Joe Besse Photography where she assisted in this business until her retirement at the age of 90. She was an avid cook and reader of books, which were her main hobbies. She was a past president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Rayne and also was a member of Assumption of the BVM Catholic Church Ladies Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters of America.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Joseph Orton Besse, Sr.; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wiley T. Williams, her twin brother, J. Clifford Williams, four other brothers, George, Wiley, Willie and Lawrence Williams.
A rosary was recited at 6:00 p.m. Monday at Gossen Funeral Home.
The family requested that the visiting hours be observed Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until service time.
Pallbearers were Peter A. Besse, Mark T. Besse, Mickey Besse, Marty Besse, Matthew Besse and Monty Besse.
The family would like to express special thanks and their appreciation to the staff of Evangeline Oaks Guest House of Carencro and Dr. Hector Robles of Lafayette.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.
