Rita Mae Melancon
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2005, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Rita Mae Richard Melancon, 72, who died Saturday, June 18, 2005, in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
Entombment was in St. Joseph #2 Cemetery in the Masouleum.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Charles "Buster" Melancon, Jr., of Rayne; three daughters, Charleen Melancon, of Carencro, Sharon Melan-con, of Florida, and Cynthia Reed, of Baton Rouge; one son, Ricky Melancon, of Rayne; five grandchildren, Lea, Lauren, Barrett, Ashley and Matthew; her mother, Edna Gary Richard, of Rayne; two sisters, Margie Lantz, of Bayou Vista, and Yvette Gleghorn, of Sugarland, Texas ; and one brother, Rodney Richard, of Sulphur.
She was preceded in death by her father, Valery Richard.
Mrs. Melancon was a graduate from St. Joseph High and was crowned Miss Rayne in 1950. She was a member of St. Joseph Ladies Altar Society and the Good Samaritans.
A rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Sunday.
The family requested that the visiting hours be observed Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Monday from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Hubert Ray Amy
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2005, in Gossen Funeral Home Chapel for Hubert Ray Amy, 82, who died Monday, June 20, 2005, in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
Emtombment was in St. Joseph Cemetery #2.
Survivors include his two sons, Richard Amy and wife Mona, of Rayne, and Robert Amy and wife Monica; one sister, Bonney Buswell, of Lafayette; four grandchildren, and two geat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Meryl Guidry Amy; one daughter, Rocky Lane Thibodeaux; parents, Sylvester Amy and Edna Daigle Amy; and two brothers.
Mr. Amy was a member of the American Legion, D.A.V. and Pearl Harbor Survivors Association.
A rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.
The family requested that the visiting hours be observed Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until services time.
Arrangments were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Ella Jean Bell
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2005, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Father Bill Ruskoski officiating, for Ella Jean Bell, 72, of Rayne, who died at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at Eunice Community Hospital.
A rosary was recited Thursday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Visitation was observed Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to time of services.
Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery No. 2.
She is survived by three sons, Kenneth Bell and Michael McCummings, both of Rayne, and Harold Bell, of Niagara, Wisconsin; one daughter, Pamela Rudd, Hillsboro, New Mexico; three sisters, Nora Hebert, Crowley, Nola Timmer, Brazoria, Texas , and Hilda Stelly, Rayne; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Rex Bell; her parents, Belzie Dronet and Ramus Joseph Abshire; one brother, Bernice Joseph Abshire; and two sisters, Dorothy Griffin and Shirley Rifensthul.
She loved to crochet blankets and to give them to her family. She was a wonder mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be sadly missed by everyone.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of arrangements.

Arthur James
‘Pee Wee’ White
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2005, in Cunningham C.M.E. Church, with the Rev. W.K. Rucker officiating, for Arthur James “Pee Wee” White , 67, of Rayne, who died at 3:48 p.m . Friday, June 3, 2005, in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Visititation was from 12 p.m. until time of services at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 11.
Burial was in the Rayne Protestant Cemetery.
Mr. White was a very dedicated honorary reserve officer for the City of Rayne. He was employed by Edmundson and Duhe’ Rice Mill for many years.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Martin Wayne and Chandrekia Bias of Rayne; two grandchildren, Shamara Anjane’ and Taylor Renne’, both of Rayne; four brothers, Clinton (Slvia) White of Houston, Texas , Clifton, Oland, Roland and Allen (Mildred) White , all of Rayne; four sisters, Ella (O’Neil) Clement of Houston, Texas , Martha (Milton) Handy, Mae Rose and Helena White , all of Rayne; brother-in-law, Dojie Peltier of Houston, Texas , and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond White , Sr., and Lissie Earnest- White ; two sisters, Bernice White -Peltier and Mary Ann White ; one nephew, Kevin J. White ; and one great-nephew, Ja’Cory White .
Pallbearers were Vincent Bonnom, Anatole LeDay, Allen White , Clifton White , Oland White , Eddie Young, Jr, Rayne police officers, and Rayne reserve officers.
Syrie Funeral Home of Lafayette was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Dallas Wilson, Sr.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2005, in Starlight Baptist Church, with Rev.Creig Gregory officiating, for Dallas Wilson, Sr., 89, of Rayne, who died at 6:43 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2005, in his daughter’s home in Duson.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Wilson; one sister, Fannie Beverley; four daughters, Henrietta Harmon of Duson, Bernice Warfield o f of Houston, Texas , Verna Taylor and Rena Nazamani, both of Galveston, Texas ; 12 sons, Dallas Wilson, Jr., and Stanford Champaigne, both of Port Arthur, Texas , Terry Guidry of Mt. Vernon, N.Y. , Phillip Wilson and Albert Wilson, both of Arlington, Va., Donald Mike Wilson, Jacob Wilson, Frederick Wilson, and Lester Wilson, all of Rayne, and Harrison J. Wilson, of Galveston, Texas .
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harrison Wilson and Rena Eaglin Wilson; four brothers, James “Jimmie” Wilson, Abraham Wilson, Lester Wilson, Sr., and Dorsey Wilson; five sisters, Rebecca Gums, Clara Clide Clark, Ella Bias, Youla Coleman and Myrtle Milstead; his wife, Gladys Logan Wilson: son, Warren Wilson and Gilbert Guidry ; and daughters, Joann Andrew and Loella White .
Arrangements were entrusted to Syrie Funeral Home, Inc., of Lafayette.

Dottie Venable
DUSON –– Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2005, in St. Theresa Catholic Church, with Father Leonards officiating, for Dottie Venable 70, of Duson, who died at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2005, at her residence.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday in the St. Theresa Life Center.
Visitation was observed Friday from 11 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the St. Theresa Life Center.
She is survived by three daughters, Kathleen McNeal and Linda Bourque, both of Duson, and Wendy Venable of Crowley; one son, Tony Venable of Duson; two sisters, Rosabelle Thibodeaux of Lafayette and Julia “Ruth” Royer of Crowley; six brothers, Roosevelt Venable, Texas ; Rodney Venagle and Alberta Venable, boht of Cankton, Ray Venable and Roy Venable, both of Church Point; and C.J. Venable, Duson; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Ms. Venble was preceded in death by her husband, Gaeston Venable; one granddaughter, Kelly Breaux; parents, Mr. Clarence Venable and Natalie Gautreaux Venable; and two brothers, Berlin and Elmo Venable.
She was a very loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, Jason Bourque, Robert Bourque, David Bourque, Joey Bourque, Daniel Bourgue, and Chuck Venable.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements .

Kermit Hebert
BRANCH -- Funeral services were held Saturday, June 11, 2005, at 10 a.m. in St. Edmund Catholic Church, with Father Francis Bourgeois officiating, for Kermit Hebert, 75, of Metairie, who died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2005, in the East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. in the Duhon Funeral Home chapel.
Visitation was observed Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
Burial was in the St. Edmund Cemetery.
He is survived by three sons and their wives, Blake and Karen Hebert, Kenner, Anthony and Kay Hebert, Niceville, Fla., and Leon and Kim Hebert, Covington; one daughter and her husband, Priscilla and Ray Villio, Kenner; two sisters, Eura Fasseur and Dulcie Quebodeaux; three sisters-in-law, Annie, Betty and Gl.oria; two brothers-in-law, Hebert and Linic; nine grandchildren, Vickie, Kevin, Matthew, Jill, Leslie, Summer, Kelsey, Isaac, and Macey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a graduate of SLI (UL) in 1953. He was assistant field office manager for USDA Grain Division for over 30 years before retiring in 1985. He wa a parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. Kermit wsa also an avid suppporter of all Archbishop Rummel sports.
He was a native of Branch and a resident of Metairie for the past 48 years.
Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Valson J. Stutes
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m.Tuesday, June 14, 2005, in the funeral home chapel, with Father Buddy Breaux officiating, for Valson J. Stutes, 81, of Duson, who died at 10:05 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2005, in Lafayette General Medical Center.
A Rosary was prayed at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel.
Visitation was observed Monday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery No. 2.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Stutes, Duson; two sons and their wives, Bobby and Debbie Stutes, Cameron, and Larry and Shirline Stutes, Ridge; three daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Dr. Patrick Leonard, Lafayette, Mary “Sis” and Kenneth Latour, Cankton, and Pamela Stutes, Duson; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and one sisters, Emma Richard, Rayne.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Joseph Stutes, and his mother, Della Bearb Stutes.
Mr. Stutes served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post 77 of Rayne.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.
