Magee
J.D. Magee, 93
Funeral services for J.D. “Jack” Magee, 93, of Hodge were held Feb. 1 at the Hodge United Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Jeff Stroud and Glen Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Jonesboro Cemetery.

Mr. Magee died Jan. 29 at Lincoln General Hospital.

Born Dec. 6, 1910 in Kokomo, Miss., he was a retired pulpmill cook for the paper mill and a veteran of the United States Army during World War II.

He is survived by his wife Hazel. L. Causey Magee of Hodge; daughter, Alma Dell Clawson of Kokomo; sons, Buel L. Magee and wife Paula of Hodge and Quinten Causey of Hodge; sister, Grace Rhymes of Tylertown, Miss.; brother, George Magee of Kokomo, Miss.; 11 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will serves as pallbearers.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Hall
Malvin Hall, 90
Malvin O. Hall went home to his Lord on February 8, 2004 at his home in Friendship, LA. He was born April 10, 1913 to Wiley and Effie Hall who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by Artie Sanderlin Hall, his sister Cloteal Bell and her husband Reagan, brothers Wilbur Hall and wife Nina, Lloyd Hall, baby Edward. Malvin is survived by his wife Polly Hall, stepsons Dr. Kenneth Sanderlin and wife Fran, Troy Sanderlin and wife Leta, Charles Sneed and wife Diana, stepdaughters Mickie Hewitt and husband Joe, Carla Sneed, Johnnie Sue Oran and husband Ron, and Cindy Bussey and husband Michael. He is also survived by his many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and by his sister-in-law Clovis L. Hall widow of Lloyd. Malvin was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church, serving as an active deacon for more than forty years, with the last five years being an inactive deacon. He has been Superintendent and a teacher of the Sunday School. He was proud of his military service, being a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served in Harbor Defense. He was a very successful farmer and forester. He worked in the oil industry in the Gulf of Mexico and off Australia. As a farmer he enjoyed sharing his produce with his neighbors in the community. Malvin was particularly proud of the delicious peaches he grew. He was faithful in being a good steward of all that the Lord blessed him with and will be remembered by many in the community that were recipients of his generosity. Services will be held at Friendship Baptist Church on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at 2:00 pm with burial at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. Brother Robert K. Leach will conduct the services with music by the church choir. Pallbearers will be Tim Andrews, Colin Brown, Billy Ray Culpepper Jr., Wayne Durbin, Jodie Hall and Bo Shows. Honorary Pallbearers will be W. E. Barron Jr., Pete Usrey, and Ray Hall.

LeBlanc
Donald LeBlanc , 74
Memorial services for Donald John LeBlanc Sr., 74, of Jonesboro were held Feb. 6 at the Jonesboro First Baptist Church with the Rev. W.O. Busby officiating.

Mr. LeBlanc died Feb. 4 at Jackson Parish Hospital.

Born Aug. 11, 1929 in New Orleans, he was a retired postman and a veteran of the United States Air Force.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley LeBlanc of Jonesboro; daughters, Paula Payne and husband Paul of Jackson , La. and Danielle Monroe and husband Ken of Ruston; son, Donald J. LeBlanc Jr. of Jonesboro; sisters, Frances Nagin of New Orleans and Pearl Hebert of Houma; and four grandchildren, Seth Payne, Zachary Payne, Mikaela Payne and Landry Monroe.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Loflin
Nina Loflin, 71
Funeral services for Nina Loflin, 71, of Chatham were held Feb. 4 at the Concord Methodist Church in Chatham with the Rev. Emily Winberry officiating. Burial followed in the Salem Cemetery in Eros.Mrs. Loflin died Feb. 2 in Monroe.She was a homemaker and a member of the Chatham Methodist Church.She was preceded in death by her husband, James “J.C.” Loflin.She is survived by her son, Mike Loflin and wife Ellie of Monroe; daughter, Lenore Batchelder of St. Louis, Mo.; sister, Lota Mae Loflin of Chatham; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.Pallbearers were Stanley Gryder, Leo Ticheli Jr., Jimmy Brunson, Brian Chatham, Benny Roberts and Glen Crowell.Services were under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe.

Williams
Woodrow Williams, 87
Woodrow Wilson Williams died Thursday morning at his home in Jonesboro, LA.

He was 87 and a retired forklift driver for Continental Can Company / Smurfit Stone from May 1946 until his retirement in August 1981.Mr. Williams was born on June 7, 1916. The matriarch of the family served as his mentor at the age of 13where he learned to be an oxen driver. The family traveled from logging camps throughout northeast Louisiana into parts of Texas , finally settling in Ansley, LA. As a resident of Ansley Community, he and other community residents enjoyed singing at social events where Jimmy Davis was sometimes present and performed. His loyalty to this close community was demonstrated in his and Mr. Harvey Johnson ’s efforts to restore the old Ansley Colored Cemetery. He met and in May of 1939 was joined in holy matrimony with Sally Anne Anding. In 1942 he was called to serve his country during World War II in Australia and New Guinea. As a continuation of his patriotism he was one of the original founders of the Lily B. Ceasar Post no. 527 and was recently received recognition for this honor at the 2003 Veterans Program.

Returning to the States, he attended Grambling Vocational Training School where he became a certified cabinetmaker. Examples of his creative workmanship still exist today in homes, schools and churches. He freely contributed his time, talents, and financial support to all activities that his family was engaged in -completely involved at all levels-academic, civic, and religious. He exhibited the truest examples of community service through precept and examples. He was the quiet, yet strong figure that supported and dearly loved his wife and children.. On their 86th birthday the community honored he and his wife for their superlative acts as good fellow citizens. He is survived by; a loving wife and special friend, Sallye A. Williams of Jonesboro, a brother, Omstead Williams of Detroit, Michigan, a Foster Brother ‘n’ Law Jessie P. Gill, Ruston, Louisiana , two sons, Mack A. Williams and his wife Fannie Dorsey Williams of Ruston, LA, Kenneth E. Williams and wife Rosemary Williams of Fort Worth, TX, three daughters, Carolyn E. Williams and husband M. L. Bolds of Jonesboro, Louisiana , Mariolyn J. Jackson and husband Curtis Jackson of Fort Worth, Texas , Sylvia Anne Williams Baker and husband Rayo B. Baker, Jr. of Detroit, MI,, nine Grandchildren, Mario Williams, DeCarlo Thomas, Phranses W. Lasisi, Sheri Johnson , Marcus Jenkins, Tajma Williams, Tamla Williams, Daniel Williams and Virgil Dwayne Baker, seven great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

The Funeral was held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 30, 2004 at the MT. Earia C.M.E. Church, 312 Northeast Street, Jonesboro, with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery, Vernon, Louisiana . Arrangements were by the Community Funeral Home, Jonesboro, Louisiana .

Bradford
Donnia Bradford, 57
Donnia M. Bradford, 57, of Omaha, Neb. died Jan. 13.Born Nov. 23, 1946 in Jonesboro, she graduated from Shady Grove High School. She married Billy Charles Bradford in 1967, and soon moved to Omaha where she worked for the Omaha Public School District where she served as office manager of Student Information Services. She worked there for 28 years.

Mrs. Bradford was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and John Wesley Elmore.

She is survived by son, Wesley Bradford and wife Shirley of Kansas City, Mo.; daughters, Mary Holmes of Omaha and Cynthia Davis and husband Eric of Wichita, Kansas; parents, Webb Elmore Sr. and Mary Lue Hamilton Elmore of Jonesboro; brothers, Webb Elmore Jr. of Jonesboro, Joseph Elmore and wife Sandra of Wichita; Willie Elmore of Monroe; seven sisters, Ora Wiley of Quitman, Mary Ann Leonard and husband Roosevelt; Elsa Jones and husband Mark of Jonesboro, Margaret Washington , Lillie Turman and husband Billie of Dallas, Wilma Watts and husband Garry of Waco, Texas and Catherine Butler and husband Bennie of Rochester, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; mother-in-law, Louise Bradford of Jonesboro; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Koonce
Christine Koonce, 80
Funeral services for Christine Hawkins Koonce, 80, of Minden were held Feb. 2 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J.C. Clements officiating. Burial followed in the Zions Rest Cemetery.

Mrs. Koonce died Jan. 30 in Minden.

Born Nov. 2, 1923 in Summitt, Miss., she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Chuck Koonce and wife Benita of Oklahoma City; sister, Charlene Dickenson of Memphis, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Shaun David Koonce and Christine Lucille Koonce.

Pallbearers were Shaun Koonce, Eric Hawkins, Mike Chreene, David Stahl, Dave Evans and Jim Phillips.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Scoggins
DeeLee Scoggins, 71
Funeral services for DeeLee Scoggins, 71, were held Feb. 2 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Gene Cumpton, Eugene Doam and Ed Fenton officiating. Burial followed in the Bear Creek Cemetery.

Mr. Scoggins died Jan. 30 at Jackson Parish Hospital.

Born Dec. 20, 1932 in Quitman, he was a retired poultry farmer and a veteran of the United States Coast Guard.

Mr. Scoggins was preceded in death by Nellie Jean Scoggins, Billie Ruth Scoggins, Hazel Anderson and O.A. Anderson.

He is survived by daughters, Kathy Stevenson and husband Robert of Quitman, Ambra Stephens and husband Craig of Quitman and Cindy Alexander and husband Roger of Weston; step-daughter, Kathy Browning and husband Gary of Dodson; sons, Roy Eugene Scoggins of Jonesboro and Todd Scoggins of Quitman; step-son, Mike Peters and wife Carla of Quitman; sister, Margie Anderson of Quitman; grandchildren, Abby Jean Scoggins, Tara Stephens, Misty Stephens, Chrystal Stevenson, Cole Stevenson, Dustin Alexander an Cassidy Alexander; step-grandchildren, Shane Peters, Sunni Peters, Kendi Deese, Mandi Spillers, Tobi Spillers and T.K. Spillers; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers included James Anderson, Jerry Brown, Herb Cannady and Billy Roberson.

Pallbearers included Gerald Brown, David Earl Brown, Phillip Brown, Joey Anderson, Jackie Anderson and Steve Shovan.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Brooks
Grady Brooks, 83
Funeral services for Grady Lee Brooks, 83, of Jonesboro were held Jan. 25 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Loyd Sowers and Stephen Horn officiating. Burial followed in the Franthom Chapel Cemetery in Eros.

Mr. Brooks died Jan. 23 at Forest Haven Nursing Center.

Born March 9, 1920 in Eros, he was a carpenter and a veteran of the United States Air Force during World War II.

He is survived by niece, Shirley Brooks Brunson and husband Hal of Pineville; step-daughter, Brenda Emanus and husband Lin of Jonesboro; step-son, Norwood Horn and wife Jewell of Lafayette; three great-nieces, two great-great nieces; one great-great nephew; and two step-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Emmett Blundell, Ronnie Carson, Tommy Emanus, Clyde Knox, Randy Layfield, Andy Pardue and James Rasberry.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Caraway
John Caraway, 91
Funeral Services for John Henry Caraway, 91, of Hodge were held Jan. 23 at the Hodge United Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Jeff Stroud and T.W. Barnes officiating. Burial followed in the Driskill Mountain Cemetery.

Mr. Caraway died Jan. 21 at Forest Haven Nursing Center.

Born June 15, 1912 in Clay, he retired from Stone Container where he worked in the maintenance department.

He is survived by daughters, Mary Eloise Walden and husband Jerry of Hodge, Linnie Grace Tanner and husband Tommy of Minden and Betty Jean Womack and husband Allen of Shreveport; sons, Jimmy Edward Caraway and wife Sherlyn of Jonesboro, John David Caraway of West Monroe and the Rev. Randall Ralph Caraway and wife Pam of Gaffney, S.C.; brother, Morris Caraway; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were grandsons - Phillip Tanner, Kevin Womack, Ken Womack, Mark Caraway, David Caraway Jr. and Brad Caraway.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Durbin
Elizabeth Durbin, 55
Funeral services for Elizabeth Ann Durbin, 55, of Dodson were held Jan. 21 at the Yankee Springs Baptist Church in Goldonna with the Rev. Carl Barr officiating. Burial followed in the Yankee Springs Cemetery.

Mrs. Durbin died Jan. 19 at her home.

Born March 16, 1948 in Shreveport, she was a rural carrier for the United States Postal Service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Travis Durbin.

She is survived by one son, Stacey Durbin of Doyline; and granddaughter, Madison Jennifer Durbin of Bossier City.

Pallbearers were John Ross, Brandon Crow, Daniel Marze, Allen Martin, Roger Bedgood and Don Shows.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.
