James Wayne Matte
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2006, in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point for James Wayne Matte, 61 of Opelousas, who died Friday, June 23, 2006, in Doctors Hospital in Opelousas.
Burial was in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Church Point.
A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. Monday, June 26, in the funeral home chapel.
Visitation began at 3 p.m. Sunday with viewing until 10 p.m. and at 8 a.m. Monday until 10 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Matte, Opelousas,; one son, James Matte, II, Opelousas; two daughters and their spouses, Dayna Matte Dupre and Scott and Athena Matte Breaux and Michael, all of Prairie Rhonde; his mother, Beulah Matte, Church Point; two brothers, Peter Matte, Branch, and Patrick Matte, Iota; six sisters, Marlyn Simon, Richard, Sharron Ledoux, Iota, Karron Schexnider, Groves, Texas , and Everlyn Bouregois, Bonnie Lambert and Candy Matte Leger, all of Church Point; and one grandchild, Hunter Dupre, four-years-old.
Mr. Matte was preceded in death by one daughter, Amanda Elizabeth Matte; his father, Vorace Matte, and his grandprents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lejeune, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Matte.
He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era.
Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point was in charge of arrangements.

Sherran Ann LeBlanc Cline
On Wednesday, June 14, 2006, Sherran Ann LeBlanc Cline Passed away surrounded by her family after a 24-year battle with cancer. A native of Lafayette, Sherran was born on November 24, 1945 and has lived in Roberts Cove for the past 30 years. She was a graduate of Our Lady of Fatima High School and the University of Southwestern Louisiana where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority.
Sherran was a lady whose character epitomized faith, courage, patience, strength, and grace. Each and every person she came into contact with was inspired by her bravery. Her life was a testament to her unrelenting faith and perseverance to all who knew her. Her eloquence, kind spirit, compassion and gentle ways will be missed, but we will all be at peace knowing that she is returning home to be greeted by her beautiful angels Shane and Todd.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Robert “Roddy” Cline, her three beloved children, Paige Jenee Cline of New Orleans, Parrish Ladd Cline and wife Courtney of Lafayette, and Christian Shaye Cline of Boulder, Colorado, her father, Gaston LeBlanc and wife Edwina of Lafayette, her twin brother, Shelton Jude LeBlanc and his wife Jeannette, of Lake Charles, her two sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie and Terry Champagne of Breaux Bridge, and Joyce and Bobby Prince of Lafayette and her special sister-in-law and caretaker Madge Cline Sharkey and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Shane Scott and Todd Thomas Cline; her mother, Alice Joyce Broussard LeBlanc ; and her mother-in law, Martha Lee Carmichael.
Sherran was an active member of St. Leo IV Catholic Church in Roberts Cove where she was a homebound Eucharistic minister. She was a member of St. Leo’s Ladies Altar Society and the Assumption of the Blessed Mother Rosary Group. She was a dedicated and loyal member of Bayou Girl Scouts, serving as a troop leader for many years. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and an officer of both the Roberts Cove Volunteer Family and Community Association. Additionally, Sherran participated in the Acadia Parish VFC Council and was an active volunteer at Rayne Catholic Elementary School.
Her family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to all of Sherran’s magnificent friends, doctors, nurses, and caregivers from all walks of life who stayed so close and provided such comfort and care during this difficult time. You are all so very special to her. The names are far too many to list.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2006, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Fr. Gary Schexnayder was the celebrant of the Mass, followed by the eulogy and words of encouragement by Reverend Perry Sanders, a personal friend.
Visitation was from 11 a.m. until time of services.
Musical selections were provided by Ramona Carmichael. The family requested visiting hours from 3 p.m. till 8 p.m, with a rosary being recited at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Delhomme Funeral Home.
Graveside services were at Lafayette Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Ted Carmichael, Terry Champagne, Brett Champagne, Kyle Champ-agne, Kenny Cline, Justin LeBlanc , Bobby Prince, Michael Paul Crocket.
Readers were Sherran’s nieces, Lauren, Courtney, and Katie Prince. The gift bearers were her lifelong friend, Jean Butaud, her sisters, Debbie Champagne, Joyce Prince, and sister-in- law Madge Sharkey. The Eucharistic Ministers were be her faithful neighbor, Josie Thevis, and her daughter, Christian Cline.
In lieu of flowers please send memorial donations to Rayne Catholic Elementary School Memorial Fund, 407 S Polk St., Rayne, LA 70578; Notre Dame High School Memorial Fund, 910 N. Eastern Ave., Crowley, LA 70526; or Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.

Velma Dupont Villejoin
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2006, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Velma Dupont Villejoin, 70, who died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at her residence.
interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery #2.
The readers for the service were Sheila Hebert and Katie Royer, while offertory gifts were brought up by Hannah Alleman and Evan Alleman.
Survivors include one son, Mark Villejoin, of Church Point; one granddaughter, Amanda Doucet and husband Jason, of Rayne; two sisters, Lucy Alleman and husband Charles, of Rayne, and Anna LaSalle and husband Norris, of Kaplan; two brothers, Carl Dupont and wife Joyce, of Rayne, and Harold Dupont and wife Sharon, of Duson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Villejoin; parents, Mr. & Mrs. Lucien Dupont; and two brothers, Lennis and Bucy Dupont.
Pallbearers were Jason Alleman, Ashley Dupont, Blaine Dupont, Farrell Dupont, Bryant LaSalle and Jacob Alleman.
A rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday.
The family requested that the visiting hours be observed Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. until services time.
Donations can be made to Hospice of Acadiana in Lafayette.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc of Rayne.

Murphy J. Moore
Memorial services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Murphy Joseph Moore, 67, who died Sunday, June 18, 2006, in Lafayette General Medical Center.
Entombment was in St. Joseph Cemetery #2 Mausoleum.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Hudson Moore, of Sanger, California; one daughter, Diana Moore Smith, of Sanger, California; one step-son, Steven Layman, of Duson; one brother, Larry Moore, of Coarsegold, California; one grandchild, Kelly Olivier, of New Iberia; one great grandchild, Dakotah Olivier, of New Iberia; two nieces, Michelle Klinect, his godchild, and Christy Moore Ledet; three nephews, David Moore, Scott Moore, and Scott Menard; four aunts, Mable Guidry, Viola Roy, Gladys Foret, and Gilbert Moore
He was preceded in death by his parents, Waddy Moore and Mable Roberts Moore.
A native of Rayne, he resided in Sanger, California, for the past 19 years.
He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy having been stationed at Moffet Field and Midway before assignment in 1963 to Lemoon Naval Air Base where he played the game he loved football for the Navy. During this time he met his wife to be and the following year in 1964 they married.
Mr. Moore spent the remainder of his life working in construction having managed many commercial projects including the Hilton in Lafayette, chemical plant in Weeks Island for Martin Salt, and numerous large institutions in California. While working construction he also was a trainer having horses racing on numerous tracks in the South.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home, Inc. of Rayne.

Alvin Jean Leger
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2006, at a Mass of Christian Burial in Gossen Funeral Home Chapel for Alvin Jean Leger, 71, who died Saturday, June 17, 2006, at 8:16 a.m. in Crowley American Legion Hospital.
interment was in Arceneaux Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Hilda Venable Leger, of Rayne; two daughters, Annettte Leger Watkins, of Duson, and Rebecca Leger Belaire, of Breaux Bridge; two sons, Daniel Leger, of Kaplan, and Michael Leger, of Rayne; one sister, Verna Mae Bourque, of Judice; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Valery Leger and Inez Credeur Leger; two sisters; and three brothers.
A rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Sunday.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Monday from 8:00 a.m. until service time.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home, Inc. of Rayne.

Michelle Odette Thibodeaux Manchester
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Michelle Odette Thib-odeaux Manchester, 42, who died Friday morning, June 16, 2006, in Baton Rouge.
interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery #2.
Survivors include her husband, William Manchester, of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Brittany Thibodeaux Lambert and husband Matt, of Harahan, and Annabelle Thibodeaux, of Dallas, Texas . three sons, Christopher Dupin, Baton Rouge, Jonathan Dupin, Walker, and Bradley Thibodeaux, Fort Laud-erdale, Fla..; parents, Roy Thibodeaux and Aline P. Thibodeaux, of Baton Rouge; one sister, Colette Thibodeaux, of Los Angeles, Calif.; two brothers, Paul Thibodeaux and wife Claire, of Dallas, Texas , and Jon Thibodeaux, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla..; and one nephew, Evan Thibodeaux, of Dallas, Texas .
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Katie Manchester; one sister, Monique Jeanne Thibodeaux; one brother, Pierre Antoine Thibodeaux; maternal grandparents, Fernand Privat and Aline Weil Privat, of Rayne ; paternal grandparents, Roy J. Thibodeaux and Adeline Thibodeaux, of Duson.
The family requested that the visiting hours be observed Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home, Inc. of Rayne.

Clarence Abshire, Sr.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 19, 2006, in St. John Baptist Church in Lyons Point, with Father Donald Pousson officiating, for Clarence Abshire, Sr., 87, of Midland, who died at 9:45 Friday, June 16, 2006, in the Crowley Guest Home.
A rosary was recited Sunday, June 18, 2006, at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Burial was in the Abshire Cemetery in Lyons Point.
Visitation was observed Sunday from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
He is survived by three sons, Clarence Abshire, Jr., Sulphur, Edwards Abshire, Rayne, and Howard Abshire, Gueydan; two daughters, Dolores Matthews, Lyons Point, and Stella Guidry, Crowley; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Abshire; his parents, Felecia Abshire and Solomon Abshire; and six sisters and one half-brother.
Pallbearers were Casey Abshire, Marty Gaspard, Tony Matthews, Chris Abshire, Jr. Abshire and Heath Abshire.
Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Cedric Charles Simar
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 22, 2006, in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Chris Campo officiating, for Cedric Charles Simar, 48, of Estherwood, who died at 2:25 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2006, in Crowley’s American Legion Hospital.
Burial will be in the Estherwood Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Melon Simar, Estherwood; six sons, Zachary Charles Simar, Eric Bonisace Simar and Timothy James Hanks, all of Estherwood; Travis Dwain Hanks,Crowley, and Brandon Charles Simar and Robert David Simar, both of Egan, Texas ; one daughter, Trinity Lane LeMaire, Leesville; his mother, Gladys Dronet, Rayne; two sisters, Carolyn Young Simar, Crowley, and Norma Linscomb, Eagleton, Texas ; and five grandchildren.
Mr. Simar was preceded in death by his father, Clifton Simar and two sisters, Yvonne Hebert and Irma Istre.
He was a very simple man who lived and respected the simple pleasures of life. His wishes were to have a simple funeral and also he did not wish to have flowers.
Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley was in charge of funeral arrangements.
