Nita B. Meche
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2006, Mass of Christian Burial in Assumption Catholic Church in Mire for Nita B. Meche, 78, who died March 14, 2006.
interment will be in Assumption Cemetery
in Mire.
Survivors include four daughters, Velma Schexnayder and husband Ravan, of Rayne, Nora Gilliam and husband Lee, of Tennessee, Cora Babin and husband Clifton, of Abbeville, and Emma Castille and husband Wayne, Rayne; three sons, Earl Meche and wife Janelle, of Maurice, Floyd Meche and wife Ruby, of Judice, Victorian Meche and wife Priscilla, of Cankton; Twenty-three grandchildren, Thirty-two great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; and one sister, Cora Meche, of Rayne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Meche, Sr.; one son, Clarence Meche, Jr.; parents, Victorian Bearb and Emma Miller Bearb, two sisters, Theresa Leger, Rita Credeur; three brothers, Eddie Bearb, Elie Bearb, Louis Bearb.
A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.
The famiy requested that the visiting be observed Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time Thursday.
Pallbearers will be John Schexnayder, Scotty Meche, Zack Meche, Leonard Castille, Clifton Babin, Carl Meche. Honary pallbearers will be Earl Meche, Nora Gilliam, Floyd Meche.

Thelma R. Carpenter
Sulphur- Thelma R. Carpenter, 83, died at 6:40 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2006, in her home.
She attended Our Lady of LaSallette Catholic Church and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ivy Benoit and John Forrest Carpenter; her son, Paul Benoit; her daughter, Catherine David; and her brother, Adam Romero.
She is survived by her children, Mary Virginia Credeur and husband, Chester of Duson, Rose Breaux of Abbeville, Rita Matte and husband, Pete of Rayne, Helen Jones and Husband, Jim of Sulphur, John Carpenter, Jr. of Sulphur, Pat Boudreaux and husband, Johnny of Sulphur, Roderick Carpenter and wife, Ruth of Sulphur, Charlena Fitzgerald and husband, Winston of Spur, Texas , Ivana Ware and husband, Alfred of Oakdale, and Charles Carpenter and wife, Linda of Scott; her sister, Jeanne Meaux of Duson; her brothers, Jesse Romero of Duson and William Romero, Sr. of Duson; 38 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Her funeral was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Maurice Serice will officiate. Burial will be in Farquhar Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today with a rosary service at 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. until the time of service Thursday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family.
Mary Jane Demette
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2006, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Father William Ruskoski officiating, for Mary Jane Demette, 76, of Rayne, who died Friday, March 10, 2006, in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 12, in the funeral home chapel.
Visitation was observed from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.Sunday and from 8 a.m. until time of services Monday.
Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery
No. 2 in Rayne.
She is survived by her husband, Clody Demette, Rayne; one son and his wife, Donald and Bonnie Demette, Rayne; one daughter, Wanda Lowenstein, Rayne; two sisters, Beatrice Thibodeaux, Rayne, and Hazel Champagne, Duson; seven grandchildren, Bridget Campbell, Jason Lowenstein, Dawn and Sunshine Lowenstein, Monica Demette, and Danielle and Victoria Demitte; and ten great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Demette was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Leodice Credeur and Amelia Credeur; three brothers, Delven, Nolton, and Wilton Credeur; and two sisters, Joyce Leger and Thelma Menard.
Mrs. Demette was a member of the Ladies Altar Society in Rayne.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.
Corinne Richard Robinson
LAKE CHARLES –– Corrine Robinson, 81, died Sunday, March 5, 2006, in Lake Charles. She was a native of Branch.
Survivors include her daughters, Rebecca Maddox and husband Steven of Sulphur; Josie Robinson, also of Sulphur. Grand puppy, Rufus, and Grand cats, Earnhardt, Allison and Happy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam Richard and Nora Stark Richard; and one brother, Aaron Richard; and one sister, Dorothy Moncrief.
Her funeral was held at 12 noon Wednesday, March 8, 2006, in Hixson Chapel.
Burial was in Maxie Cemetery
under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home.
Visitation was observed from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. until time of service Wednesday.

Edward Young
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 4, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Starlight Baptist Church for Edward Young, 84, who died Wednesday, March 1, 2006, in the Crowley Rehab Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Selena Johnson Young of Rayne; three sons, Eddie Young Sr. of Rayne Curley Young of Crowley, and Johnny Young of Rayne; two daughters, Dianna Y. Yokum, and Loretta Y. Figaro both of Rayne; and numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Burial was in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery
under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.
Herbin Joseph Venable
Memorial services will be conducted at a later date for Herbin Joseph Venable, 64, of Lafayette, who died at 4:15 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2006, at the Heart Hospital of Lafayette.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Venable, Lafayette; two sons and their wives, Terry and Ani Venable, Carencro, and Chris and Norma Venable, Indian Bayou; two brothers, Davis Venable, Sulphur, and Berchman Venable, Jr., Mire; two sisters, Shirley Sonnier and Myrtle Venable, both of Mire; and nine grandchildren, Brody, Ashley, Dustin, Kristan,Coby, Dylan, and Allison Venable, and Brent and Kyle Arceneaux.
Mr. Venable was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Latiolais and Berchman Venable; two sisters, Mildred Credeur and Thelma LeBlanc ; and five brothers, Floyd, Clarence, Shelby, Norman and Harold Venable.
Mr. Venable was an animal lover, His passion for animals led him into the raising of horses for racing. He was a simple person who lived and loved life.

Richard George Petry
CROWLEY –– Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2006, in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel, with Brothers Ronnie Perry and Brother Charles Floyd officiating, for Richard George Petry, 76, of Crowley, who died at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2006.
Visitation was observed from 5 to 9 .m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. until time of services on Monday.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Petry, Crowley; one son, Randy Wayne Petry, Deer Park, Texas ; two daughters, Debra Dukes, Houston, Texas , and Donna Cormier, Rayne; one sister, Joann Thibodeaux, Indian Bayou; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Petry was preceded in death by his parents, Otha and Theresa Bertrand Petry. He served in the United States National Guard from 1947 until 1948.

Paul Lee Smith
GUEYDAN- Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2006, at Matthews and Son Funeral Home of Gueydan for Paul Lee Smith, 27, who died Monday, February 27, 2006 in Gueydan.
interment was in the Gueydan Cemetery.
Rev. Kemper Smith and Rev. Joe Hoover conducted the service.
He was a resident and native of Gueydan. Paul was a graduate of Gueydan High School in 1996 and a graduate of LSUE in 1998 and McNeese State University in 2001.
He was employed with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Inland Fish Division District 5 out of Lake Charles and he was an avid crawfish farmer.
Paul died around 2:30 p.m. Monday, February 27, 2006, near his crawfish pond. He also was an avid deer hunter and he loved the outdoors working in his crawfish ponds, helping others and he loved taking pictures.
He will be greatly missed by all.
Survivors include his parents, Leo and Diane Smith of Gueydan; two sisters, Jackie Istre and her husband, Scott of Crowley; Lilah Broussard and her husband, Blake of New Iberia; one nephew, Damian Istre of Crowley; and his grandmother, Martha Smith of Gueydan.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Mae Frederick of Cameron and his paternal grandfather, F. T. Smith Jr., of Gueydan.
The family requested visitation begin Friday 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. and continue Saturday 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
Pallbearers were Michael Paul Frederick, Johnnie Frederick, Blake Broussard, Gordon Smith, Bobby Reed, Eric Shank, and James Smith. Honorary pallbearers were his friends.
Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews and Son Funeral Home of Gueydan.
Linda Gail Dugas
Memorial services will be held Friday, March 10, 2006, at the First Baptist Church for Linda Gail Dugas, 49, who died at her residence Thursday, March 2, 2006.
Survivors include her mother, Melford Simon Dugas of Rayne; one brother, Kenny Dugas of Crowley; three sisters, Flo Schexnayder of Rayne, Jeanelle Menard of Mire, and Delores Zerangue of Morgan City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were handled by Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.
Erphie Michael Simon
Funeral servics were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 2, 2006, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Erphie Michael Simon, 64, who died Tuesday, February 28, 2006, in Crowley American Legion Hospital.

Survivors include his wife Shirley D. Simon, of Rayne; two daughters, Brenda Nero and husband Russell, and Kathy Reed and husband Skip, of Rayne; two sons, Michael Simon and wife Michelle, of Ebenezer, and Brian Simon and wife Amy, of Winnie, Texas ; four grandchildren, Nick Nero, Lindsey Reed, Mary Kate Simon, and Grant Michael Simon, mother, Gladys Simon, of Rayne; one brother, Clifford Simon, of Rayne; one sister, Glenda Abshire, of Rayne.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cleopha Simon; and one brother, Irvy Simon.
Mr. Simon was owner and operator of Simon T.V. repair shop in Rayne.
A rosary was recited 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.
The family requested that the visiting hours be observed Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until service time.
