Mother Dorothy Guilbault
Mother Dorothy Guilbault, a Sister of Mount Carmel, teacher, principal and former Superior General of the Sisters of Mount Carmel died Oct. 2, 2005, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette. She was 91 years old and in the 69th year of her religious profession.
Mother Dorothy was born Dorothy Marie Guilbault on Oct. 16, 1913, to George Guilbault and Julia Dastre in New Orleans. She entered the Congregation of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on Sept. 5, 1933, and received the habit of the Sisters of Mount Carmel Aug. 6, 1934. On Aug. 3, 1936, she made her first profession and pronounced perpetual vows Aug. 3, 1939. She graduated from Mount Carmel in New Orleans in 1932. She received her undergraduate degree in 1944 from Loyola University in New Orleans and her masters degree in Secondary Administration from Catholic University of America in Washington , D.C. in 1954. She received an undergraduate degree and a masters degree in Hospital Administration in 1964 from Xavier University in Ohio.
Mother Dorothy taught from 1936 to 1949 at parochial and Mount Carmel schools in New Iberia, Thibodaux, Lafayette and St. James Major in New Orleans. She served as principal of Mount Carmel New Iberia and Mount Carmel Lafayette from 1949 to 1961 and administrator of St. Joseph Hospital in Thibodaux from 1961 to 1967. She was Assistant General from 1967 to 1973 and Superior General from 1973 to 1977 of the Sisters of Mount Carmel. Mother Dorothy also served as residential administrator at Chateau de Notre Dame, Motherhouse superior and administrator and Lakeview Shepherd Center Board President.
Since 1990, Mother Dorothy served as moderator, regional coordinator, consultant and Formation National Commissioner of the Lay Carmelites. She was moderator of the Marians and the Theresians in the New Orleans area. Mother Dorothy served as coordinator for bringing the Relics of St. Therese to the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Among her awards she received a Certificate of Merit from the Council on Aging as “Shepherd of the Year”, and was honored at a retirement program by the Regional Lay Carmelites. She celebrated her 60th Jubilee in 1996.
Mother Dorothy, the fourth of six children, was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: George, Marius and Robert Guilbault and two sisters: Julia Moore and Isabel Guilbault.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their children.
On Tuesday, October 4th, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 600 Raintree Trail, Lafayette, visitation began at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m.
The Reverend Harold J. Trahan, pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, was the celebrant of the Funeral Mass and conducted the funeral services.

Beatrice H. LeBlanc
Funeral services are pending for Beatrice H. LeBlanc , 83, of Crowley, who died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005, at the Rayne Guest Home, where she was a resident for the past five years.
Burial will be in Istre Cemetery in Mermentau Cove with Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Elaine and Charles Myers of Rayne and Lorraine and Robert Myers of Rayne; one son and his wife, Eddie and Betty LeBlanc of Sulphur; two brothers, Henry Lee Hanks of Jennings and Clifton “Doc” Hanks of Kaplan; four sisters, Amelia “Tee” Levy of Evangeline, Mabel Evans and Evelyn Bagwell of North Carolina, and Louise McLauren of Houston; nine grandchildren, Ronald and David Myers of Rayne, Lisa Soileaux and Jimmy “Bubba” Smith of Rayne, Janice Stutes of Crowley, Connie Gautreaux of Patterson, Kim LeBlanc of Baton Rouge, Russell and Eddie LeBlanc of Sulphur; 10 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Ofed and Agnes Hanks of Morse; her husbands, Ernie “Due” LeBlanc and John Lane; two brothers, Wilfred “Gro” Hanks and Herbert “T.B.” Hanks; three sisters, Thelma Viehause, Helen LeBeouf and Dorothy Hanks; and one grandson, Kenneth Paul Myers.
A long-time businesswoman of the Crowley area, “Mrs. Bea” will be sadly missed by numerous friends and business associates.

Avery John Leger
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 6, 2005, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Avery John Leger, 88, who died Monday, October 3, 2005, at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Redlich Leger of Rayne; three daughters, Marlene L. Carlson of Rayne, Claudette L. Benoit of Maurice, and Kathy L. Jagneaux of Lafayette; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Leger was preceded in death his parents, Leza and Leona Constantine Leger; one daughter, Diane Cozad; eight brothers, Elie, Clifton, Oris, Dudley, Bobbie, Harry, and Merton Leger; and four sisters, Amy Braquet, Iris Tompkins, Racie Darcy, and Gert Heinen.
Mr. Leger was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Arceneaux Post 77 of the American Legion, and also a member of the VFW.
Visitation was observed Wednesday, October 5, from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
Burial will be in the St. Joseph Mausoleum under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Brunella Breaux Potier
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 12, 2006, at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott for Brunella Potier, age 69, the former Brunella Breaux, who died Tuesday, October 10, 2006, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
interment was in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Scott.
Reverend Mark Melancon, associate pastor of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, was the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and conducted the funeral services. Giftbearers were Olivia Potier and Michelle Sanchez. Lector was Sandy Trahan. Music and singing were performed by the Iota French Choir.
Survivors include two sons, Duane Potier and his wife, Mandy of Sunset and Kevin Potier and his wife, Nancy of Houma; two grandchildren, Derek Potier and his wife, Holly of Houma and Olivia Potier of Houma; six sisters, Audrey B. Miller and her husband, Raleigh, Roudel B. Meaux and Ralan Rozas, Bercie B. Alleman and her husband, John, Earline B. Miller and her husband, Gerald, Linda B. Alleman and her husband, Raylin and Gloria Breaux Sanchez.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dudley Potier, Jr.; her parents, Benton and May Prejean Breaux; a brother-in-law, Ray Potier; and a nephew, Kelvin Meaux.
A native of Rayne and a resident of Scott for forty eight years, Mrs. Potier was a member of the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Community.
She was also a member of TOPS and CFMA. Mrs. Potier loved cooking, making delicious fudge, entertaining her friends and she also loved Cajun French music and dancing. She was known everywhere she went and never met a stranger. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister and will be sadly missed by all.
A Rosary was prayed Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Martin & Castille Funeral Home in Scott.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
Pallbearers were Derek Potier, Ryan Alleman, Tim Potier, Jonathan Sanchez, Dion Alleman and Jody Alleman.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Vicki Cormier, her special angel sent down from heaven, with special thanks for her unending help and selfless devotion.

Jaunita Ann Primeaux
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with Father Donald Pousson officiating, for Juanita Ann Primeaux, 48, of Midland, who died at 2:15 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, at her home in Midland.
Burial was in the St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Lyons Point
Visitation was observed Monday from 4 p.m. until time of services on Tuesday. A rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel.
She is survived by four sons, Jason Benoit, New Iberia, Jeremy Benoit, Crowley, Derek Benoit, Midland and Damien Benoit, Galveston, Texas ; her mother, Pearly Primeaux, Mermentau; one brother, Alcide Primeaux, Rayne; two sisters, Cheryl Smith, Midland, and Elaine Vondenstein, Mermentau; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ennis Primeaux, and one brother, Keith Primeaux.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley.

Elpha Meche Quebodeaux
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 6, 2006, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Elpha Meche Quebodeaux, 98, who died Thursday, October 5, 2006, at 6:49 a.m. in Crowley American Legion Hospital.
interment were in St. Joseph Cemetery #2.
Survivors include three sons, Gene J. Quebodeaux and wife Betty, of Scott, Hilton J. Quebodeaux and wife Natalie, of Branch, James J. Quebodeaux and wife Helen, of Rayne; 15 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 27 great- great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roman Quebodeaux; parents, Onail Meche and Celestine Melancon Meche; six sisters; one brother.
A rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday.
The family requested that the visiting hours be observed Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. until service time.
The arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Betty Racca Madden
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, in the funeral home chapel in Crowley, with Deacon Rodless Leleux officiating, for Betty Racca Madden, 67, of Duson, who died at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at her home in Duson.
Burial was in the Abshire Cemetery in Kaplan.
Visitation was observed Tuesday, Oct. 10, from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
A rosary was recited Tuesday in the funeral home chapel.
She is survived by her husband, Garland Madden of Duson; two sons, Richard L. Madden, Mobile, Ala., and Robert L. Madden, Los Angeles, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Leaah Gayle Madden, Dallas, Texas , and Peggy A. Walters, Maryland; one sister, Beatrice Richard, Bunkie; and one step-grandson.
She was preceded in death byher parents, Enite Monceaux and John Racca.
She owned and operated Bettty’s Play House in Duson, which was one of her passions. She was an avid bowler, baseball player, poker player and cyclist. She was a very athletic person.
She cooked the best gumbo in the world. One of the things she did that will be missed was her making of Millionare candy that she handed out as gifts. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Claude Guidry
Rayne - Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2006, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Claude Guidry, 90, who died Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at 5:30 a.m. at his residence.
Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery #2.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Laughlin Guidry, of Rayne; one daughter, Bonnie Guidry Stewart and husband, Noble, of Houston; one son, Father Michael Guidry, of Morrow; one sister, Edith Guidry Albarado, of Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Antoinio Guidry and Amy Champagne Guidry; two sisters, Agnes Guidry Langlinais, and Eva Guidry.
Mr. Guidry was in the Army serving in the Normandy Invasion and Battle of the Bulge.
A rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The family requested that the visiting hours be observed Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.
