Funeral services for Purvis Lee Wiley Sr., 66, of Quitman were held Dec. 23 at the St. Rest Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. R.L. Belton officiating. Burial followed in the St. Rest Cemetery.

Mr. Wiley died Dec. 17.Born Aug. 3, 1937 in the St. Rest Community, he was a graduate of Jasper Henderson High School, a deacon at St. Rest Missionary Baptist Church and retired from Smurfit-Stone.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sebron and Susie Wiley, and step-brother, J.C. West.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ora Wiley; sons, Purvis Lee Wiley Jr. of Quitman, Gerald E. Wiley of Quitman, Melvin Wiley and wife Cassandra of North Carolina, Joe Wiley and wife Janet of Arlington, Texas and Eric Wiley and wife Xiomara of Orlando, Fla.; daughter, Shameka D. Wiley of Arlington; sisters, Choicie Wiley of Quitman and Lillie McDade and husband Floyd of Delhi; brothers, James Wiley of Quitman, Roosevelt Wiley and wife Inez of Jonesboro and Wallace Wiley and wife Emma of Grambling; step-sister, Emma Stringfellow and husband Issac; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Honorary pallbearers were Roosevelt Wiley, Wallace Wiley, James Wiley, Purvis Wiley Jr., Gerald Wiley, Melvin Wiley, Joe Wiley and Eric Wiley.

Pallbearers were St. Rest Lodge No. 93, Wayne Hassen, Eddie Calahan, Roosevelt Leonard, Mark Jones, Webb Elmore, Sandford Osborne, Terry Wiley and Rick Wiley.

Services were under the direction of Kings Funeral Home of Ruston.

Alexander
Everett Alexander, 78
Funeral services for Everett Dean Alexander, 78, of Jonesboro were held Dec. 10 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. J.D. Moss and Andy Wilson officiating. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories.

Mr. Alexander died Dec. 8 at his home.

Born Aug. 17, 1925 in Jonesboro, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired printer for the paper mill.

He is survived by his wife, Stella Alexander of Jonesboro; daughters, Donna Ramsey and husband Chet of Chatham and Glenda Gay of Jonesboro; sons, Richard Alexander of Ruston, Eddie Alexander of Dubach and Leslie Alexander and wife Teresa of Winnfield; sisters, Avis Gaines and husband L.D. “Bud” of Quitman, Joyce Hall of Dubach and Linda Evans and husband Vernon David of Quitman; brother, John Alexander and wife Nelda of Quitman; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Heath Ramsey, James Ramsey, John Odenbaugh, Darren Alexander, Scott Alexander and Mark Gaines.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Bringol
Winnie Bringol, 90
Funeral services for Winnie S. Bringol, 90, of Shreveport were held Dec. 10 at the Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Bossier City with the Rev. Ray Boswell officiating. Burial followed in the Jonesboro Cemetery. Mrs. Bringol, formerly of Friendship, died Dec. 8 in Bossier City.

She was a retired secretary for the State of Louisiana and a member of First Baptist Church of Shreveport.

She was preceded in death by her son, Eugene H. Bringol; brothers, Maubry and Murray Smelley; and sister, Wilma Walker.

She is survived by daughter-in-law, Mary Bringol of Bossier City; and eight grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were Dick Bringol, Glenn Adamson, Bobby Foster and Donald Black.

Pallbearers were Joey Chauvin, Todd Walker, Brian Bringol, Jimmy Chauvin, Dean Walker and Ollie Walker.

Services were under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home of Bossier City.

Dove
Joseph Dove Jr., 72
Funeral services for Joseph Lee Dove Jr., 72, of Jonesboro were held Dec. 11 at the North Hodge Assembly of God with the Revs. Gene Cumpton and Danny Stevenson officiating. Burial followed in the Gayla Traina Cemetery.

Mr. Dove died Dec. 8 at Jackson Parish Hospital.

Born May 23, 1931 in Houston, he was a retired plumber.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Dora and Joseph Dove.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Elizabeth Dove of Jonesboro; daughter, Catherine Michelle Tatum and husband Dale of Vernon; sons, Joseph Lee Dove III and wife Suzie of Canyon Lake, Texas and Gary Lynn Dove and wife Betty of Magnolia, Texas ; sister, Joy Messer of Galveston, Texas ; brother, Bill Dove of Houston; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were the Senior Saints Sunday School Class.

Pallbearers were Floyd Odenbaugh, Delayne Alford, Leroy Ashley, Tim Smith, John Vondenstein and Josh Merchant.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Miller
Louis Miller, 75
Funeral services for Louis William Miller, 75, of Jonesboro were held Dec. 10 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joey Bignar officiating. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories.

Mr. Miller died Dec. 8 at Jackson Parish Hospital.

Born May 12, 1928 in Lockhart, Texas , he was a retired Amoco distributor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Vivian Miller.

He is survived by three daughters, Tina Spillers and husband Woody of Quitman, Terry Barrilleaux of Slidell and Nancy Miller of Jonesboro; and five grandchildren, Kristy Guy, Wes Spillers, Casey Spillers, Whitney Garland and Cameron Barrilleaux.

Honorary pallbearer was Harvey Pardee.

Pallbearers were Van Beasley, Doc Garrett, Don Essmeier, Marion Smith, Don Greer and Ed Rich.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Avery
Durward Avery, 90
Funeral services for Durward Robert Avery, 90, of Jonesboro were held Dec. 6 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Bro. Russell Rhodes and Elder Jesse Stripland officiating. Burial followed in the Zion’s Rest Cemetery.

Mr. Avery died Dec. 3 in Ruston.

Born April 6, 1913 in Jonesboro, he was a machine tender.

Mr. Avery was a life-long citizen of Jackson Parish, having lived almost all of his 90 years on the same piece of property. He was at heart a farmer and a cultivator of people: a true friend to so many, keeping in touch with those he had worked with through the years. He graduated from Weston High School where he was a member of the basketball team that played in the state tournament. He also received the American Legion Award. He was truly a man of his word. His wisdom and love of life will be remembered and missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Opal Avery; son, Dr. D.R. Avery Jr.; brother, Loranza Avery; and sister, Elba Nash.He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Mrs. Opal Avery of Jonesboro; daughters, Carolyn Rhodes and husband Keith of Chatham, Jo Fitzpatrick and husband Jim of Lafayette, Sarah Blackmon of Monticello, Ark. and Myra Stewart and husband Joe of Vernon; brothers, Shelby D. Avery of Jonesboro and Edgar J. Avery of Jonesboro; 12 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were N.D. Smith, the Rev. C.S. Martin, Glen Nash, Wayne Nash, Larry Avery and Joe Avery.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Darrell Avery, David Avery, Glenn Blackmon, Bryan Blackmon, Doug Blackmon, Mark Fitzpatrick, Shawn Fitzpatrick and Jerry Shows.

Memorials may be made to Zion’s Rest Cemetery.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Chelette
Virginia Chelette
Services for Virginia Floriene Chelette were held Dec. 7 at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Jonesboro with the Rev. Robert Leach officiating. Burial followed in the Sardis Cemetery near Atlanta.

Mrs. Chelette died Dec. 4 at Homer Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

She was a certified nurses aide and a Sunday school teacher and secretary of Dodson Assembly of God.

She is survived by her daughter, Margie Chelette Clifton and husband Fred R. “Duke” of Lake Charles; sons, Ray A. Chelette and wife Martha and Eugene Chelette, both of Dodson, Waymon Chelette and wife Teresa of Shreveport and Tommy Chelette and wife Frances of Pascagoula, Miss.

Honorary pallbearer was Marvin Joe Deese.

Pallbearers were Waymon Chelette II, James Ivey, Justin Ivey, Charles Barron, John F. Lovell III and Billy Ray Deese.

Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Cook
Clois Cook, 83
Funeral services for Clois Fowler Cook, 83, of Jonesboro were held Dec. 8 at the Zion’s Rest Cemetery with Elder Jesse Stripland officiating.

Mrs. Cook died Dec. 6 at her residence.

Born April 30, 1920 in Joyce, she was a housewife.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.H. Cook.

She is survived by sons, John Harley Cook and wife Donna of Wickenburg, Ariz. And Freddy Cook and wife Montez of Jonesboro; daughter, Nelwyn Noland and husband Frank of Spring, Texas ; brother, Everett Fowler of Hobbs, N.M.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Jordan
Brealon Jordan, 22
Funeral services for Brealon Shane Jordan, 22, of Castor were held at the Ebenezer Cemetery on Dec. 5. Mr. Jordan died Dec. 2.He is survived by his father, Jackie Jordan of Jonesboro; mother Flora Jackson and husband John of Greenwood, Miss.; sisters, April Jordan of Castor and Harley Jordan of Jonesboro; niece, Destiny Jordan; nephew, Dakota Jordan; maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Flora Bolyer of Ringgold; paternal grandparents, Julia and Leland Stanford of Jonesboro; aunt, Lilly Rushing and husband Randall of Ringgold; uncles Jimmy Jordan and wife Debbie of Jonesboro, Joey Jordan and wife Melanie of Jonesboro and Jolly Jordan and wife Patricia of Jonesboro.

Services were under the direction of Rockett Funeral Home in Ringgold.

McConathy
A.P. McConathy Jr., 81
Funeral services for A.P. McConathy Jr., 81, of Jonesboro were held Dec. 7 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Robert K. Leach, Billy Mac McBride and Ed Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Zion’s Rest Cemetery.

Mr. McConathy died Dec. 4 at Jackson Parish Hospital.Born Jan. 17, 1922 in Quitman, he was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II. He also worked in sales and service.

He is survived by his wife Mary McBride McConathy of Jonesboro; daughters, Carolyn Kelly and husband Phillip of Jonesboro and Greta Hutchinson and husband Leonard of Quitman; son, Louis McConathy and wife Marlene of Hodge; sister, Mary Evelyn McConathy of Jonesboro; brother, James Lemoine McConathy and wife Edith of Jonesboro; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were the Danville Deacons.

Pallbearers were Benjamin Hutchinson, Douglas Hutchinson, Seth Riser, Clay Osbon, Reggie Pardue and Chris Smith.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Warren
Merle Warren, 74
Funeral services for Merle Glen Warren, 74, of Saline were held Dec. 6 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert K. Leach officiating. Burial followed at the Riverside National Cemetery on March Air Force Base in California.

Mr. Warren died Dec. 3 at the V.A. Medical Center.

Born Aug. 19, 1929 in Jonesboro, he was a retired maintenance mechanic and a veteran of the Untied States Navy in World War II.He was preceded in death by his parents, Authur and Clotheld Warren.

He is survived by his soul mate, Eva Jo Dye of Saline; daughter, Linda Sue Hillman and husband Lonny Sucgang of Downey, Calif.; sons, Richard Lee Warren and wife Pamela Jean of Apple Valley, Calif. and Ronald James Warren and wife Alba of Hesperia, Calif.; sisters, Marie Cooper and husband Billy of Quitman, Betty Autrey of Friendship and Jeanette Gray and husband Calvin of Shreveport; brothers, John Thomas Warren and wife Virginia of Jonesboro, Donnie Paul Warren and wife Barbara of Jonesboro and Arthur Ray Warren and wife Laverne of Soso, Miss.; grandchildren, Andrea Hillman, Jason Hillman, Kimberly Warren, Jonathan Warren and Shirley Warren; and great-grandchildren, Mathew Hillman and Daniel Hillman.
