Nydia Constantin
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, in St. Joseph Catholic Church here, with Father Bill Ruskoski officiating, for Nydia Constantin, 92, of Rayne, who died at 3:40 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002, in the Rayne Guest Home.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel.
Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery No. 2 here.
She is survived by one daughter, Gloria Doucet, Rayne; one sister, Delia Constantin, Lafayette; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sanders Constantin; one son, Fernand Constantin; her parents, Felide and Terance Gilbert; five brothers, Walter, Willie, Whitney, Willard, and Westley Gilbert; and one grandchild, Edward Doucet.
Pallbearers were Vernon Doucet, Wesley Doucet, Jeremey Constantin, David Doucet, Ferol Constantin, and Buddy Doucet.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Mrs. Rufus Fruge
BRANCH –– Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, in St. Edmund Catholic Church here, with Msgr. Charles Dubois officiating, for Mrs. Rufus Fruge, nee Flossie (Pi) Martin, 88, who died at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Burial was in the St. Edmund Catholic Cemetery in Branch.
Mrs. Fruge was a native of Maxie and a homemaker.
She is survived by one son, Gary Fruge, Branch; one daughter, Rita Kay Barousse, Branch; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She wsa preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Fruge.
Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Sister Mary Baptist Savoy
NEW ORLEANS –– A Memorial Service for Sister Mary Baptist Savoy, a Sister of Mount Carmel, teacher and artist, was held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare followed by a wake at 11 a.m. at Mount Carmel Motherhouse Chapel until the Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m.
interment was in St. Louis No. 3 Cemetery.
Sister Mary Baptist Savoy died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002, She was 84 years old and in the 63rd year of her religious profession. Sister Mary Baptist was born Gertrude Savoy on Aug. 2, 1918, to Albert Savoy and Laura Degeyter in Breaux Bridge.
She entered the Congregation of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on Sept. 6, 1936, and received the habit of the Sisters of Mount Carmel on Aug. 3, 1937. On Aug. 3, 1939, she made her first religious profession and pronounced perpetual vows on Aug. 3, 1942.
Sister Mary Baptist taught primary and middle grades from 1939 to 1971 at St. Dominic and St. James Major in New Orleans and at Mount Carmel in New Iberia. From 1971 to 1995, she taught art at Mount Carmel Academy in New Orleans. From 1995 to the present, she served as an artist in residence in Rayne and at Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center in New Orleans.
She graduated from Mount Carmel in Lafayette in 1936. She received her bachelor of arts degree with a major in art from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, Texas , in 1954. She received her teacher’s certificate in 1940 from the Louisiana State Department of Education and earned a master’s degree in art from Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., in 1956. One of her paintings of St. Therese of Lisieux won first place in the Senior Olympics Art Contest in 2001. She donated series of 20 paintings, depicting the life of St. Therese, to Mount Carmel Academy.
Sister Mary Baptist, the second of three children, was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by two sisters, Priscilla Osborn Barret, of Covington, and Sisters Juliana Savoy, O.P., of Washington , La.; and nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Mount Carmel Retirement Fund, P.O. Box 1160, Lacombe, La. 70445, are preferred.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Jacob Schoen and Son, New Orleans.

David Allen ‘T.J.” Stelly, Jr.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne for David Allen "T.J." Stelly, Jr., 16, who died Wednesday, Aug. 7,2002, at Lafayette General Hospital.
Survivors include his parents, David and Monica Simon Stelly Sr., Rayne; maternal grandmother, Bertha Cormier; paternal grandparents, Lerline Soileaux, of Rayne, and Simon Stelly Jr., Hammond; paternal great grandmother, Bernice Guidry of Mire; his godparents, Johnny Cormier, and Bernice Eddy; and numerous aunts and uncles.
T.J. was preceded in death by one brother, Caverick Dale Stelly; maternal grandfather, Fernest Cormier; paternal great grandparents, Ernest Alleman, and Benett and Mamaw Thibodeaux.
T.J. was a student at Rayne High School and was a member of the FFA, and was an avid four-wheeler Racer for the past three years.
A Rosary was recited Friday at 7 p.m.
Pallbearers were Josh Hollier, Johnny Cormier, Jody Duet, Ernest "E.J." Stelly, John Stelly, John Boudreaux, Jared Richard, and Kelly Campbell. Honorary pallbearer was Brock Credeur.
Burial was in the St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Rose Anna D. Dupont Williams
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at The Shrine of Our Mother of Mercy Church for Rose Anna D. Dupont Williams, 75, who died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at her residence.
The Rev. Richard Wagner was the celebrant of the Mass.
interment was in the church cemetery.
A resident of Rayne, she spent many years working as a nursing assistant at the former Rayne-Branch Hospital, and she was the owner of Rose’s Beauty Shop. She delighted in caring for ill family members and friends.
Survivors include her aunt, Mable Adams of Houston, Texas ; three sons, Melvin (Helen) Dupont, Sr., Peter (Bernice) Dupont, Jr., and John Nicholas (Debra) Dupont, all of Rayne; two daughters, Lee Ethel Dupont of Rayne and Alexia (Curtis Nicholson) Williams of Gramercy; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Duhon and Elnora Duhon, both of Rayne; one stepsister, Rena Henry; one stepbrother, Leonce Pierre; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a hosts of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Alice Duhon; two husbands, Peter Dupont, Sr., and Albert Williams; one son, Joseph Dupont; sister, Ethel Lee Duhon; two brothers, Clifton and John Duhon; and one grandchild, Vonetta Dupont.
Syrie Funeral Home of Lafayette was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Laura Cormier Guidry
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Laura Cormier Guidry, 86, who died at 3:25 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at St. Patrick Hospital, in Lake Charles.
The Rev. Bill Ruskoski, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, was the celebrant of the funeral Mass and conducted the services.
Survivors include one daughter, Laura Mae Cormier, of Lafayette; one son, Kermit Guidry, of Lake Charles; four grandchildren, Carolyn Cormier Stoute and Linda Cormier Lemaire, both of Scott, Ronald Cormier, of Mississippi, Ben Guidry, of Lake Charles; four great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; one sister, Edwill Mire, of Rayne.
Pallbearers were Matt Cormier, Ronald Cormier, Leroy Guidry, Terry Lemaire, Murphy Stoute, and Anatole Thibodeaux.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mason Guidry; and parents; Romain Cormier, Amelia Sonnier Cormier.
A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. Monday in Gossen Funeral Home.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Sabrey Velentin Sonnier
KAPLAN –– Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, in Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Leroy, with the Rev. Broussard officiating, for Sabrey Valentin Sonnier, 87, a resident of Kaplan, who died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Burial was in the Leroy Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Landry Sonnier of Kaplan; a son,Thomas Lewis Sonnier of Kaplan; a daughter, Savanna Mae Leon and her husband, Harry, of Rayne; two sisters, Fadrey Sonnier Breaux of Leroy and Enola and her husband Preston Broussard of Leroy; one grandchild, Milissa Laurents and her husband, Maurice, of Rayne; and two great-grandchildren, Brice and Blaine Laurents.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alcee Sonnier and the former Adella Hebert; and three brothers, Francis, Daulton, and Loyba Sonnier.
Mr. Sonnier was a retired farmer who planted his own land as well as the Sonnier Estate. The family of Mr. Sonnier would like to extend a special thanks to all the staff at Rayne Guest Home, the staff at the American Legion Emergency Room, Dr.Neal Duhon, Dr. Mike Mounir, Dr. Kip Coreil, and Dr.Jeffery Thibodeaux.
Vincent Funeral Home of Kaplan was in charge of all funeral arrangements.

William Arthur McKnight, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel here for William Arthur McKnight, Jr., 56, of Duson, who died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, in University Medical Center in Lafayette. at 2 p.m.
Visitation will be observed from 8 a.m. until time of services Thursday.
Burial will be in the Natchez City Cemetery in Natchez, Miss.
He is survived by one son, William (Willie) Ehlers McKnight of Duson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cora and William McKnight, Sr.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.
