Victoria Gagliano Spizale, 95, a native and resident of Gramercy, died April 19, 1999. She was the wife of the late John Spizale and the mother of Dorothy Ordeneaux, John Spizale and the late Carl Spizale Jr. and BeverlyKahl.

She was the sister of the late Lena Accardo, Mary Manda, Marion Gagliano, Lawrence Gagliano, Joseph Gagliano and Martin Gagliano.

She is survived by 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren and was preceded in death by two grandchildren.

Services were April 22 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gramercy, with interment in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Paulina.

STIRGUS

Jacqueline Stirgus, 52, a native and resident of LaPlace, died April 20, 1999. She was the daughter of Beatrice Bazile and the step-daughter of the late Ernest Bazile. She was the mother of Alana and Lela Stirgus. She is survived by one grandchild.

Services were April 24 at Providence Baptist Church No. 1, LaPlace, with interment at Providence Rest Haven, LaPlace.

TYLER

Irvin Tyler, a native of Destrehan and resident of Kenner, died April 21, 1999. He was the brother of Geraldine Myers and Malyon Scott.

He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Services were April 24 at Richardson Funeral Home, Inc., River Ridge, with interment at Belgrove Cemetery, Kenner.

WILLSON

Harry "Harry Hippy" Willson, 55, a resident of Hahnville, died April 14, 1999. Hewas the father of Carolina Willson, Donna Calloway and Sharon Davis.

He was the brother of James and Charlie Willson Jr. and Rosalie Brown, Vera Willson, Ophelia Walker, Donna Meeks and Elaine Lumar.

He is survived by five grandchildren.

Services were April 21 at True Vine Baptist Chruch, Hahnville, with interment in Bethlehem Cemetery, Hahnville.

BARBAZON
NEW ORLEANS
Beverly Idstrom Barbazon, 59, a native of New Orleans and a resident of St. Rose for 10 years, died Sept. 27, 1999. She was the wife ofLester J. Barbazon Jr. and mother of Gina Gustafson, Kristen Compton andCarrie, Leonard and Joseph Barbazon.

She was also the daughter of the late Leonard and Regina Idstrom.

She is also survived by five grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 29 in the chapel of Jacob Schoen and Son FuneralHome, New Orleans with interment at Greenwood Cemetery.

BROOKS
RESERVE
Freddie Brooks Sr., 73, a native of New Orleans and a residentof St. Rose for one year, died Sept. 23, 1999. He was the father of Frieda Howard and Freddie Brooks Jr.

He was also the brother of Helen Cole, Delores Bourgeois, Annie Mae Willis, Ernest Flowers and Isaac, Ellis and Thelma Brooks.

He is also survived by three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 29 at New Pilgrim Baptist Church, Reserve, with interment at Zion Travelers Cemetery, Lions.

BROWN
LAPLACE
Geneva Himes Brown, 85, a native and resident of LaPlace, died Sept. 28, 1999. She was the wife of the late Edward H. Brown Sr. and mother ofRosalie Lennix, Beatrice Himes and Edward Jr., Harold, Lilton and EarlBrown.

She was also the daughter of the late Octavia Variste and George Himes.

She is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, LaPlace, with interment at Providence Rest Haven, LaPlace. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.

CHAMPAGNE
LAPLACE
Henry J. Champagne Sr., 83, a native and resident of Mt. Airy, died Sept. 29, 1999. He was the husband of Ethel Sutton Champagne and father ofJoycelyn Martinez and Barry, Bryan, Ralph, Michael, Ronnie, David and Henry Champagne Jr.

He was also the son of the late Andre and Alice Champagne and brother of Geraldine Berthelot and the late Irving, Clarence, Lloyd and Lawrence Champagne.

He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were held Oct. 1 in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home,LaPlace with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve.

CLAVERIE
LUTCHER
Joyce Colbert Claverie, 57, a native and resident of Lutcher, died Sept. 23, 1999. She was the mother of Ivy Coleman and Cathy Cyprian.She was also the daughter of the late Ernest Sr. and Elnora Smith Colbertand the sister of Diana Kenney, Reynaud Stewart and Ernest Jr. and GeorgeColbert.

She is also survived by five grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 30 at St. Joe Baptist Church, Lutcher, with interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Paulina.

COLLY
BOUTTE
James W. Colly, 76, a native of Luling and a resident of Bouttefor 53 years, died Sept. 26. He was the husband of Eloise Coleman Collyand father of Artemise Jones and Burnard, Wallace and James Colly.

He was also the son of the late James and Florence Markey Colly and brother of Esther Holton, Florence Lewis and Vance, Hewitt and Herschel Colly.

He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Boutte, with interment at St. Mary Cemetery, Boutte.

Martin
Nobbie V. Martin, a native of Labadieville and lifelong resident of Luling, died on Sept. 7, 2005. She was 91 years old.

She was wife of the late Campbell V. Martin, daughter of the late Texson Vicnair and Adelina Gross Vicnair, mother of the late Betty M. Domanque (Charlie), Kemper Martin (Carol Talbot) and Doris M. Naquin (Merlin), grandmother of Denise N. Champagne, Merline N. Champagne, Lawrence M. Naquin and Holly N. Trahan. She is preceded in death by three grandchildren, Ernie Young Jr., Ricky L. Youngs and Connie Y. Madere. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Joshua and Welcome Youngs and Brad, Erica, Monique and Cody Champagne.

She was also a member of the Busy Bees at Holy Family Catholic Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today at 9 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Luling, followed by interment at St. Charles Cemetery.

Matherne
Sidney J. Matherne, a native and resident of Bayou Gauche, died on Sept. 17, 2005. He was 93 years old.

He is survived by his sons, Curlis, Roland and Gerald Matherne, daughters Clairbell Thompson and Mary Ann Bourgeois, brothers Hector and Victor Matherne, 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Alida Comardelle Matherne, parents Jacques and Henrietta S. Matherne, son Lloyd Matherne, brothers Tony, Felix, Sam and Arthur Matherne and one great-grandchild.

Services were held on Sept. 20 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Des Allemands followed by burial at Sunset Cemetery in Bayou Gauche.

Spears
Master Choyse Thames Spears died on Sept. 16, 2005 at St. Charles Hospital in Luling. He was 22 months old.

A resident of Luling, he was the beloved son of Terrance Spears, grandson of Delores and Leroy Hensley Sr., Patricia Spears and the late Thomas Spears Sr., nephew of Thyron Spears, Leroy Hensley Jr., Terrie Hensley, Thomas, Thaddeus and Theend Spears and the late Tanya Spears, great-grandson of Daniel Johnson , Willow Johnson and Dorothy Hensley, great-nephew of Rita Bussey, Shirley Griffin, Willie Gardner, Ernest Gardner, Kenneth Gardner, Clarence Gardner, Monique Gauthier, Renaida Ingram, Joseph Hensley, Marie Webber, Matrethia Johnson , Willanta Johnson , Walter Johnson , Ellion Johnson , Bobby and Walter ricks, Betty Jones, Rickey and Chaney Spears and godson of Darnelly Brown and Nickol Snow. He is also survived by a host of cousins, relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held at Third Zion Baptist Church, Highway 308, Raceland, on Sept. 24, followed by interment at Restlawn Memorial Park.

Triche
Velma Triche, a native and resident of Ama, died on Sept. 14, 2005. She was 78 years old.

She was daughter of the late Noble and Florestine Rollins Gross, wife of the late Earl Louis Triche Sr., mother of Earl Jr., Diane, Darrell, Gregory, Pamela Clark, Kenneth, Bernard, Roland and Brian Triche and sister of Elsie Brown Dyer. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark Catholic Church in Ama on Sept. 21, followed by interment at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Taft.

Ulicsni
Edward William Ulicsni Sr., a native of Cleveland and resident of Destrehan, died on Sept. 12, 2005. He was 80 years old.

He was the beloved husband of Grace Vitrano Ulicsni, father of Edward Jr., David and Brian Ulicsni and brother of Irene Ulicsni Hruby of Cleveland. He is also survived by five grandchildren.

He retired as airport supervisor of the New Orleans Aviation Board. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Army and a 40-year member of the Knights of Columbus of Norco and member of the Stoulig Council in Kenner, the American Legion in Destrehan and the American Association of Airport Executives. Visitation will be held today at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan from 10 a.m. until noon, followed by religious services. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.

Williams
Sedonia Williams, a native and resident of Killona, died on Sept. 10, 2005. She was 74 years old.

She was daughter of the late Rose Hopkins and James Williams, mother of Donna R. Green, Yolanda Young, Enola Downing, LaVerne, Johnson , Gaynell Williams, Edrington Raymond Jr., Foncello Lewis, Sheila, Pamela, Althea, Devery, Bradford and Stacy James Williams and sister of Mary Johnson and the late Rose and Ramona Williams, Eddie, James, Richard and Raymond Williams Sr. She is also survived by 37 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A funeral service was held at Canaan Baptist Church in Killona on Sept. 17, followed by interment at Greenhill Cemetery in Taft.

Woods
Melvin A. Woods III, a native and resident of Destrehan, died on Sept. 11, 2005. He was 31 years old.

He was the son of Jacquelyn Bolden Burrell, Lloyd Burrell and Melvin A. Woods Jr., father of Devaugh Colly and Justin Sampson, brother of Lloyd Burrell Jr., Fabian Woods Sr. and Corey Burrell and grandson of Corine Burrell. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held at Antioch Baptist Church in Boutte on Sept. 19, followed by interment at Shell Mound Cemetery in Des Allemands.
