Beverly H. Johnson
Beverely Hebert Johnson , 83, died Sunday morning, August 22, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at her home in Rayne.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 2004.
The Reverend John “Buddy” Breaux officiated, and interment was in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Rayne.
She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Clyde Leger, Sr. of Rayne and Mrs. B.I. Moody III of Crowley, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Flemon J. Johnson ; her parents, Valery L. and Nettie Plattsmier Hebert; and two brothers, Leonard V. Hebert and Winfred J. Hebert.
Visitation was from 5 p.m. on Monday until 8:30 p.m. and 8 a.m. on Tuesday until time of services. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Monday evening.
Pallbearers were her brother-in-law, Thomas Johnson , her nephews, Edward Johnson , Clyde Leger, Jr., Leo LaCroix, Sr., Leonard Hebert, Braxton Moody IV, Kevin Moody, Stephen Moody and Andrew Robertson.
For the funeral Mass, Carol Jean LaCroix and Rosalind Robertson, her nieces, served as scripture readers. Her nieces Valerie Hensgens, Margaret Gilbert and Elizabeth Gielen led the responsorial psalms.
Charlotte Leonards, Katherine Hundley, Beverly Lagroue, also her nieces, were gift bearers.
Musical selections included Ave Marie, Just a Closer Walk with Thee, How Great Thou Art, and Gentle Woman.
Beverly Marie Hebert Johnson was born in Rayne, Louisiana , on March 25, 1921, to Valery Leonard Hebert and Nettie Laura Plattsmier Hebert. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School, graduating with the Class of 1937. After high school, she attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette.
She married Flemon Joseph Johnson in 1946. They were lifelong residents of Rayne, where they owned and operated Johnson ’s Drive Inn for a number of years. Johnson ’s was known for its soda fountain, chocolate feezers and hamburgers.
Before her retirement, Mrs. Johnson served as copy editor of the Crowley Post Herald. She was best known as Nannan Beverly as she and Uncle “Pim” were like a second mom and dad to their many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. The Sunday dinners, that she prepared with her mother and sisters, were greatly anticipated and enjoyed by her family for many years. She loved having the whole family gather together and carefully kept the family scrapbooks and history. She was an avid reader and frequent visitor to the Rayne Library.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the League of the Sacred Heart.
The family is grateful for the loving attention given to her by her caregivers, Anna Gaspard, Elizabeth Deville, Jo Anne Guidry, Velta Landry, Dean Comeaux, Freda Hanks and the assistance of Mr. Clem Suire to the caregivers.
The family also wishes to acknowledge the kindnesses of Dr. Thomas Curtis of Rayne and Dr. Paulette Blanchet of Lafayette and Hospice of Acadiana.
Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of arrangements.

Long-time civic leader ‘Pete’ Babineaux dies
Funeral services were held Monday, August 23, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church for David “PETE” Babineaux Jr., 92 who died at his residence Saturday, August 21, 2004.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys LeBlanc Babineaux of Rayne; one son, Pete and his wife Kay Babineaux of Rayne; and one daughter, Yvette and her husband Gary Richard of Rayne; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, David “T-Bob” Babineaux III; his parents, David and Natalie Lopez Babineaux Sr.; and three brothers.
Mr. Pete was owner of Louisiana Frog Company, a Rayne City Councilman for 28 years, a member of Ducks Unlimited, he was also a member of the Louisiana Parole Board.
Visitation was Sunday August 22, from 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., and from 8:00 a.m. Monday until services. A Rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Monday.
Burial was in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Annie Guidry Villejoin
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 21, 2004, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church in Crowley for Annie Guidry Villejoin, 71, who died Thursday, August 19, 2004, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
Survivors include her husband, Dewitt Villejoin of Crowley; two sons, Kenneth and his wife Joanne Villejoin of Lake Charles, and Farrel and his wife Jan Villejoin of Crowley; two granddaughters, Brooke V. LeJeune of Lake Charles, and Diane Villejoin of Crowley; two grandsons, Jarod Villejoin of Lake Charles, and Andre’ Villejoin of Crowley; one great-granddaughter, Hope LeJeune of Lake Charles; and great-grandson, Chance LeJeune of Lake Charles.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents, Cesair and Zula Pellerin Guidry; and one brother Ernest Guidry.
Visitation was Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Friday with a Rosary recited at 6:30 p.m. Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until services.
Annie was Owner Operator of Annie’s Beauty Shop for 30 years and a resident of Crowley for the past 54 years.
Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Edgar James Campbell
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Doug Cormier officiating, for Edgar James Campbell, 39, of Branch, who died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, in a boating accident at Simsport, La.
Burial was in the St. Theresa Cemetery in Duson.
Visitation was observed Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie Campbell, Branch; two daughters, Mia Campbell, Church Point, and Penny Campbell, Branch; one grandchild, Braylin Johnson , Church Point; Clay Johnson , Church Point; mother, Linda Andrus, Branch; and stepfather, Lawrence Andrus, Branch; a sister and her husband, Marlene and Alex Muir, Branch, two nephews, Jodi Andrus of Church Point and Juston Muir of Branch; and a niece, Mandy Muir of Branch.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Terry Andrus; and his grandparents, Inez and Morris Campbell.
He was a volunteer fireman with the Branch Fire Department.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Virgie Doucet Pryor
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley, with Brother Truman Stagg officiating, for Virgie Doucet Pryor, 75, of Crowley, who died at 11:09 p.m. Thursday, August 19, 2004, in Lafayette General Medical Center.
Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
Visitation was from 10 a.m. Saturday until time of services.
She is survived by one son, Daniel and his wife Judy Pryor of Maxie; one daughter, Gayla Pryor, Crowley; three grandchildren, Tonya Pryor, Joshua Meaux and Chelsea Pryor; one great-grandson, Austin Doucet; and one daughter-in-law, Brenda Leger Pryor, Rayne;
Mrs. Pryor was a member of the Wesley Methodist Church and a very loving and caring person.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Pryor; two sons, Roger and Marty Pryor; her parents, Antoine and Agnes Thibodeaux Doucet; and one brother, Merlin Doucet.
Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Roland Manes, Jr.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel, with Father Francis Bourgeois officiating, for Roland Manes, Jr., 35, of Branch, who died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, in a boating accident in Simsport, La.
Burial was in the Body of Christ Cemetery in Branch.
Visitation was observed from 10 a.m. Thursday until time of services.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Manes, Branch; father, Roland Manes, Sr., Warren, Ohio; mother, Joanne Hayford, Church Point; and one brother, Steven Manes, Church Point.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Ann Marie Manes; one brother, David Manes; and stepfather, Albert Hayford.
Mr. Manes was a volunteer fireman for the Branch Fire Department. He served in the Army National Guard for six years, and he served in Desert Storm.
He is a beloved husband and friend and will be sadly missed.

Eddie Hebert
SCOTT — Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, at a Mass of Christian Burial in the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott for Eddie Hebert, 91, who died at 2:33 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, in the Acadiana Rehabilitation Hospital in Lafayette.
interment was in the Abshire Cemetery in Kaplan.
The Rev. Mark Melancon, associate pastor of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church of Scott, was the celebrant of the funeral Mass and conducted the funeral services.
Charlotte Jopling, soloist, accompanied on the organ by Phyllis Simar, sang for the funeral services, “Amazing Grace”, “Notre Pere”, “J’irai la vour un jour” and “He Will Never Walk Alone”.
A native of Kaplan and a resident of Duson for 43 years, Mr. Hebert was a member of the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Community in Scott.
He was an avid hunter and loved the French music. Mr. Hebert was a sheep and chicken farmer.
Survivors include three daughters, Bernice Comeaux and her husband, Eugene, of Scott, Ruby Comeaux and her husband, Kermit, of Lafayette, and Mary Blaze and her husband, David, of Katy, Texas ; four sons, Preston Hebert and his wife, Merleen, of Scott, Presley Hebert and his wife, “Terri” Theresa, of Youngsville, Dalton Hebert and his wife, Lena, of Lafayette, and Leroy Hebert and his wife, Shella, of Carencro; 22 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Begnaud, of Cypress Island; and two brothers, Adlar Hebert, of Rayne, and Anthony Hebert, of Kaplan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Hollier Hebert; his parents, Philbert and Helena Abshire Hebert; three sisters, Emedyia Hebert, Eda Landry and Ida Nunez; three brothers, Whitney Hebert, Sidney Hebert and A.J. Hebert; one grandson, Jerry Comeaux; and one great-grandson, Brennam Hebert.
A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. Friday in the Martin & Castille Funeral Home of Scott by the St. Edmond’s Ladies Altar Society.
Visiting hours were observed from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Friday and continue from 8 a.m. Saturday until time of the funeral services.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Hebert, Bradley Hebert, Ryan Hebert, Kevin Hebert, Michael Hebert, Kevin Comeaux, Dudley Comeaux and Shallen Hebert.
Arrangements were entrusted to Martin & Castille Funeral Home Inc. of Scott.
