Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 14, 2004, in St. Joseph Catholic Church at a Mass of Christian Burial for Rita Myers Romero, 81, who died Thursday, August 12, 2004, in Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.
interment was in St. Joseph #2 Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Romero Lake, of Rayne; one son, Gene Romero, of Leesville; two grandchildren she raised, Deborah Romero Smith, of Nederland, Texas , David Romero, of Rancho Cucamunga, California; one sister-in-law, Clara Myers, of Rayne; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Romero; parents, Arthur Myers and Felicia Rogers Myers; eight brothers,and two sisters.
Rosaries were recited at 3:00 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 7:00 p.m. Friday and 10:00 a.m. Saturday.
The family requested that the visiting hours be observed from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Friday and from 8:00 a.m. until time of services Saturday.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

William Bob Thompson
NOBLE, LA. –– Services for William Bob Thompson, 78, were held at 12 noon Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at Noble Baptist Church with Pastor Jimmy Price officiating.
Burial was in the Noble Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson died on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, in DeSoto Regional Health System in Mansfield.
Visitation was at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield Tuesday, Aug. 3, from 6 to 9 p.m. and at Noble Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday.
Mr. Thompson was a native of Atlanta, Texas , and a long-time resident of Rayne. Mr. Thompson retired to Toledo Bend Lake after a long career with Penrod Drilling Co.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Coleman; his parents, William Virgil and Minnie Clayton Thompson; brothers, Alvin, Truman and David; and sisters, Ethel Stone, Edna Francis and Pearl Bible.
He is survived by brothers Frank Thompson of Bloomberg, Texas , and Kenneth Thompson of Waskom, Texas ; one sister, Lillie Blackwood of Cullman, Ala.; one daughter, Joanne Bordelon of Houma; one son, Bobby Thompson of Rayne; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandson Jake, Bill, John, Jeff Bordelon, Brandon Guidry and brother-in-law, Gene Floyd.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the Noble Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 10, Noble, La. 71462.

Evans Paul ‘Tip” Thibodeaux
MARRERO, LA - Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 6, 2004, in Mothe Funeral Home Chapel for Evans Paul “Tip” Thibodeaux, Sr., 78. Mr. Thibodeaux died at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero.
Mr. Thibodeaux was a native of Acadia Parish and at the time of his death he was a resident of Harvey, La. He was retired vice president of Master Provision and Supply Company. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Masonic Daylight Lodge 412.
Survivors include his wife, Bette Doucet Thibodeaux of Harvey; two daughters, Pam T. DuBose and her husband, Jim of Crowley and Darlene T. Williams and her husband, Kenny of Alabama; four sons, Evans P. Thibodeaux, Jr. and his wife, Glen of Algiers, Jason Thibodeaux and his wife, Danielle of Gretna, Jesse Matt of Algiers and Tony Matt of Marrero; three brothers, Arthur Thibodeaux of Church Point, Issac Thibodeaux of Baton Rouge and Ned Thibodeaux of Jennings; three sisters, Rose Ancelet of Ossun, Rena Bernard of Lafayette and Joyce Higginbotham of Church Point; 10 grandchildren, including Shawn DuBose of Crowley and Gina D. Davis of McHenry, Illinois; five great grandchildren, Sloane Matthews, Myles Gates, Jack Thomas DuBose, Logan and Caitlyn Monceaux, all of Crowley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ardus and Virginia Savoy Thibodeaux; a son, Randy Thibodeaux; two brothers, Lee and Ben Thibodeaux, and two sisters, Alice Savoy and Evie Lavergne.
Mothe Funeral Home of Marrero was in charge of all arrangements.

Gale Gilbert Nelson
“I shall not die, but live, and declare the words of the Lord.” Psalm 118:17
Gale Gilbert Nelson passed from this life to the next, on August 10, 2004. She was surrounded by family and friends who loved her. Gale had battled breast cancer for 16 years with God by her side and lost her life to this disease at the age of 50.
Gale was born in Crowley on November 11, 1953 to her parents, Bert and Ramona Marquart Gilbert, who have both preceded her in death. She was raised a country girl on the family farm south of Crowley on Hwy. 13. She was a graduate of Crowley High School, Class of 1971 and attended McNeese State University. She worked in the insurance industry, catering and was recently self-employed in antique sales in Crowley and Opelousas.
Gale prided herself most in her devoted role of mother and grandmother. She leaves behind her memory in a new endeavor called “Remember Me”, a talcum powder shaker she designed to help her granddaughter, Lundyn, remember her each night at bedtime.
Gale was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Crowley where she did volunteer church work. She and her daughter, Tiffany, founded the Krewe of L’Acadie in 2002 and Gale and her husband, Wes, served as the first King and Queen in 2003. She was previously an active member of the Krewe of Cosmos in Sulphur.
Gale’s adventurous and free spirit led her to live her life to the fullest. Her journey included many travels, camping, gardening, scrap booking and antiquing. She loved the water and enjoyed spending time by her pool, at the beach or near a lake.
Gale’s life was changed when she was diagnosed with cancer, but she was never bitter and felt her life was enriched by her many friendships and experiences.
Gale is survived by her husband of 30 years, Wes D. Nelson of Crowley; one daughter, Tiffany Nelson Shreve and her husband, Garrett of Crowley; one son, Jason “Rock” Nelson and his wife, Emily Trahan of Waxahachie, Texas ; one granddaughter, Lundyn Gale Shreve; one grandson, Boston Blaine Shreve; two sisters, Carole Gilbert-Purcell of San Clemente, Calif. and Janet Boudreaux and her husband, Roland of Rayne; one brother, Bart Gilbert and his wife, Pauline of Crowley; her mother-in-law, Mary Nelson of Crowley; one sister-in-law, Kathy Nelson Murrell and her husband, David of Crowley; two brothers-in-law, Byron Ronkartz of Carencro, and Sandy Hoffpauir of Upper Marlboro, Md.; paternal aunts, Audry Dickey and her husband, Ansel of Friendswood, Texas , and Bea Crouch and her husband, Jodie of San Rayburn, Texas ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 12, 2004, at First United Methodist Church in Crowley. Rev. Bob Hollis pastor of First United Methodist Church will be officiating for the services with Rev. Lloyd Singley pastor of Northside Assembly of God Church assisting. interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
Visitation was held at the First United Methodist Church, 321 Third Street in Crowley on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. until the time of service. A “Remember Me” service was held from 7:15 to 8 p.m. Wednesday for family and friends to share memories of Gale and to celebrate her life.
Pallbearers will be her nephews; Johann, Brian and Jeffery Ronkartz, Chad and Brandon Murrell and a friend of the family, Mike Rougeau.
The family requests that memorial gifts be made to Hospice of Acadiana, Inc., 2600 Johnston St., Suite 200, Lafayette, La. 70503-3204; First United Methodist Church Youth Ministry, 321 East Third Street, Crowley, La. 70526; or Northside Assembly of God Youth Ministry, 809 Northern Ave., Crowley, La. 70526.

Harold Smith
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 1, 2004 at 3:30 p.m. in Melancon Funeral Home for Harold Smith, age 60, who died Friday, July 30, 2004, at 8:00 a.m. in Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.
Rev. Mr. Eugene Waguespack of St. Peters Catholic Church officiated the services.
Mr. Harold Smith was a native and resident of Lafayette. He was a veteran of the military having served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include: one daughter, Monica Smith Boyer and her husband, Kelvin of Rayne; two grandchildren, Skye Maghan Boyer and Kelvin James Boyer II of Rayne, two brothers, Rodney Smith and his wife, Geri of Lafayette, Ed Smith Jr. and his wife, Susan of Mire; four sisters, Mildred Picard, Eva Manuel and her husband, Sylvan, Shirley Trahan and her husband, Blackie, all of Lafayette, and Vicky Myers of Mire.
He was preceded in death by both his parents, Edward Smith and the former Alicia Leger, both natives of Bristol; and one son, Allen Wayne Smith.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 9:00 a.m. Sunday until service time on Sunday.
Melancon Funeral Home of Carencro was in charge of arrangements.

Moise Ferrier Thibodeaux
BRANCH –– Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2004, in St. Edmund Church in Branch, with Father Francis Bourgeois officiating, for Moise Ferrier Thibodeaux, 82, of Branch, who died at 11 a.m. Monday, August 3, 2004, in the Rayne Guest Home.
Burial was in St. Edmund Cemetery in Branch.
Visitation was observed Monday from 6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
He is survived by his wife, Sybil Thibodeaux, Branch; one son and his wife, Rannal and Barbara Thibodeaux, Branch; one brother and his wife, Leonce and Zuline Thibodeaux, Lake Charles; three sisters and their spouses, Rose LeJeune Richard, of Richard, Ethel and Wilfred Ledeux, Richard, and Odile and Dalton Cormier, Groves, Texas ; one grandson, Bryan Music; and three great-grandchildren, Spencer Music, Justin Music and Zachery Music; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maranle and Ferrier Thibodeaux; five brothers; and three sisters.
Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Ida T. Ousse
Funeral service were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2004, in St. Joseph Catholic Church at a Mass of Christian Burial for Ida Tanner Ousse, 57, who died Sunday, August 1, 2004, in Our Lady Of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery #2.
Survivors includes her husband, Donnie Ousse, of Rayne; two sons, Robert Ousse, Jr., of Dequeen, Ark., Michael Tanner Ousse, of Rayne; two daughters, Cherry Broussard, of Iota, and Kellie Trahan, of Rayne; eight grandchildren, Megan, Breet and Morgan Broussard, of Iota, Mackenzie, Madilyne and Landon Trahan, of Rayne, Corey John and Catherine Elizabeth Ousse, of Dequeen, Ark.; mother, Lee Ethel Tanner, of Crowley; and one sister, Jackie Stutes, of Crowley.
She was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Tanner, and one nephew, J. J. Tanner.
A rosary was prayed at 7:00 p.m. Monday.
The family requested that the visiting hours be observed from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday and from 9:00 a.m. until time of services Tuesday.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Margie Andrus Cormier
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2003 at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley for Margie Andrus Cormier, 82, who died Dec. 25, 2003, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge.
Fr. James Nguyen officiated at the services.
She is survived by two daughters, Jackie Hoffpauir Ducote and her husband Robert Garvuc of Baton Rouge and Janet Romero Cradeur of Baton Rouge; one son, Johnny Romero of Lafayette; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Cormier was preceded in death by two sons, Roy Romero, Jr. and Edward Hoffpauir III; her parents, Joseph and Francis Arceneaux Andrus; two brothers, Johnnie Andrus and J.W. Andrus, Jr.
Burial was in Branch Methodist Cemetery. Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley was in charge of arrangements.

Glady Joseph Trahan
Glady Joseph Trahan died on December 28, 2003 at American Legion Hospital in Crowley. He was 85. A funeral Mass celebrating Glady’s life was held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 30 2003, with interment following at Woodlawn Mausoleum.
Visitation was observed on Monday from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m., and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
A rosary was recited on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
He was born on September 10, 1918, to Calise and Amy Simon Trahan. He was a 1936 graduate of St. Michael’s High School. In October, 1940 he enlisted in Company 1, 156th Infantry of the Louisiana National Guard. From September 1942 until August 1945, he was stationed overseas in Cheltenham, England and Reims, France as Staff Sergeant with the United States Army Printing Plant. White in France, he served as an interpreter and placed non-classified orders with French printers supplying the U.S. Army. While stationed in England in January, 1943, he met Mary Stritch, and they were married on June 29, 1945.
Following his honorable discharge, he was employed as a linotype operator at the Abbeville Meridional, the Tribune Printing Plant, the Lafayette Daily Advertiser, and the Crowley Daily Signal. In 1950, he founded Glady Printing, Inc., which he operated until his retirement in 1987.
Glady was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, where he served for many years as a Mass commentator, a member of the mixed choir, and Eucharistic Minister to shut-ins.
In his later years, he coordinated a group of men as altar servers for funerals held at St. Michael’s. He was a life member of Knights of Columbus Council 1318, where he was a past Grand Knight. He also served as district deputy for District 33 in 1984-85, and was a member of the Monsignor Mollo Assembly of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He also served as a goodwill ambassador for the City of Crowley.
He was a staunch supporter of Catholic education, and in particular St. Michael’s Elementary School and Notre Dame High School. He was instrumental in initiating the tennis program at Notre Dame, building it into one of the best in the state. His teams have won many district, regional, and state honors in both the boys and girls divisions. His girls team won a state championship in 2000. He was recognized by the Diocese of Lafayette as Notre Dame’s achiever of the year in 1993. He was honored for his service to Notre Dame by being named the 1996 recipient of the ‘Shoe of Fame” award.
Glady loved sports, and especially high school athletics. He particularly loved tennis, which he took up at the age of 35 when the City of Crowley built courts in the park across the street from his home. He spent decades playing tennis and teaching the sport to young and old alike.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Stritch Trahan; four daughters, Marian T. Hundley of Crowley, Melanie T. Hensgens and her husband Keith of Gueydan, Mary T. Cumbus and her husband Ken of Baton Rouge, and Laura T. Frank and her husband Miles of Crowley; five sons, Philip Trahan and his wife Karen of Monroe, John Trahan and his wife M’elise of Crowley, Peter Trahan and his wife Donna of Baton Rouge, Patrick Trahan and his wife Lynn of Lafayette, and Thomas Trahan of Monroe; twenty-eight grandchildren, Andy, Joey and Jennifer Trahan, William Kelly (Trey), Ashley and Bridgid Hundley, Nicholas, Stephen, Gabriel, Matthew, Liesi, and John Peter Hensgens, Adrienne and Andre’ Trahan, Allison and Christopher Trahan, Mary Margaret, Gregory, Michael and Claire Trahan, Lindsey and Emily Cumbus and Benjamin Perrodin, Simone Trahan, and John Thomas, William, Jeffery and Samuel, Frank.
He is also survived by four sisters, Evelyn T. (Red) Istre and Ruby Trahan of Crowley, Rita T. Privat of Rayne, and Patricia T. Schneider of Roberts Cove; and one brother, R.C. Trahan of Tucker, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Calise and Amy Simon Trahan.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish, 910 N. Eastern Avenue, Crowley, Louisiana 70526; or Affiliated Blind of Louisiana , 409 West St. Mary Blvd., Lafayette, Louisiana 70506.
Glady’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Paul Stringfellow, Dr. Karrie Kilgore, Dr. John Rainey, the staff of American Legion Hospital, and Acadian Home Care for the care given Glady during his last illness.
Pallbearers were Trey Hundley, Andy and Joey Trahan, Nicholas, Stephen, Gabriel, and Matthew Hensgens, and Christopher Trahan.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley.-
