Parker Morgan, Jr.
CROWLEY ––Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Jerry Snider officiating, for Parker Morgan, Jr., 84, of Crowley, who died at 11:50 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, in the Lake Charles Hospital.
Burial wsa in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
He is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Donna and Jimmy Kay, Sour Lake , Texas , and Shively and Dr. Gene Lampson, Lake Charles; one sister, Almeda Morgan Frederick, Westlake; one brother, Kelly Morgan, Kerville, Texas ; seven grandchildren; Emily Lampson Matlock, Thomas Lampson, Keith and Caryn Kay, Angela Kay, Daniel Lampson, Shivley Michelle Lampson, and Chad and Nicole Kay; and two great-grandchildren, Ardiana Matlock and Blaine Parker Kay.
He was born and raised in Ebenezer, La. He entered World War IIand participated in the D-Day Landing in Normandy, France. He was twice wounded and received the Purple Heart and the Silver Star for gallantry.
After the war, he returnd to Morse, La., to work on the family rice farm. He later moved to Beaumont, Texas , where he retired in 1974. He lived the last 29 years of his life in Crowley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Weekly Broussard; one brother, Taze Morgan; and one sister, Thesta Stutes.
Those who wish to make a memorial may do so to the American Cancer Society.
Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Rita Neu Menard
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at 2 p.m. at St. Leo Catholic Church, for Rita Neu Menard, 82, who died Friday December 26, 2003 at her residence in Rayne.
Survivors include four daughters and their husbands, Connie M. and Darryl Billiot of Rayne, Susan M. and her husband Karl Henry of Rayne, Debbie M. and her husband Freddie Robinson of Rayne, and Merlie and her husband Walter Harrington of Estherwood; one son Wayne H. Menard of Rayne; 17 grandchildren Laurie, Deidre, Christy, Amy, Brandy, Brittany, Ryan, Derek, Maggie, Jill, Daniel, Clint, Drake, Andrea, Fredrick, Heather, and Mitchell; and one great grandchild Ashleigh Credeur.
Mrs. Menard was preceded in death by her husband, Nolton H. Menard; her parents, Joseph and Anna Neu; three sisters, Josephine Neu Zimmerman, Marie Neu Arceneaux, Dorothy Neu Thevis; and three brothers William “Bill” Neu, Raymond Neu, and John Neu.
Visitation was Sunday from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m., and Monday from 8 a.m. until services. A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday evening.
Burial was in the St. Leo’s Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home, of Rayne.

James Crenshaw
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, in the funeral home chapel, with Father Bill Ruskoski officiating, for James Crenshaw, 82, of Crowley, who died at 8:05 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, in the Crowley Guest Home.
A rosary was recited Friday at 10 a.m.
Burial was in the St. Joseph No. 2 Mausoleum.
Mr. Crenshaw was a member of American Legion Post No. 77 in Rayne. He was third and fourth degree Knight of Columbus. He was a member of NARFE, National Association of Retried Federal Employees for 30 years. He was a past commander of the VFWin the State of Georgia.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He also received the Purple Heart.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Bessie Mae Crenshaw.

Vola Faul Sovie
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, in the funeral home chapel, with Father Bill Ruskoski officiating, for Yola Faul Sovie, 74, of Rayne, who died at 5:10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel.
She is survived by her husband, Claiborne Sovie, Rayne; two sons and their spouses, Michael and Anna Sovie, Crowley, and Ricky and Tina Sovie, Opelousas; four daughters and their spouses, Patsy Sovie, of Rayne, Peggy and Harold Falcon, of Rayne, Betty and Earl Hebert, Maurice, and Vicky and Shane Blasingame, of Duson; one brother and his spouse, Albert and Joyce Faul, Crowley; four sisters and their spouses, Mary Lou Bernard, Carencro, Mary Ellen and Joseph Picard, Rayne, Bella and Aaron Trahan, Carencro, and Ruby and Vic Guidry, Jennings; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Yola was preceded in death by her parents, Rose Richard and Arvillion Faul; and three brothers, Clifford, Cleveland and Leroy Faul.
She was a loving wife, mother, meemaw, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, and also a friend.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Juanita Petitjean Bordelon
LAKE CHARLES ––Juanita Petitjean Bordelon, 86, of Lake Charles, died at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, in her residence.
Mrs. Bordelon was born in Church Point. She lived most of her life inHouston, Texas . she was a graduate of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Some of her favorite hobbies included sewing, knitting, and coin collecting. She loved to spend time with her family, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include four sons, Kent Bordelon of Lake Charles, James Bordelon of Fort Worth, Texas , Brian Bordelon of Littleton, Colo., and Greg Bordelon of Paris, France; one brother, Ernest Petitjean, Jr., of Crowley; one sister, Melba Johnson of Rayne; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bordelon was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Bordelon, and one sister, Loretta Harrell.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, form Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. The Rev. Alan Trouille officiated.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. in the Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.
A graveside service was held Monday, Dec. 29, from St. Joseph Cemetery in Rayne.

Barbara Sonnier
Funeral services were held at 12 noon Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel, with Father Glenn Meaux officiating, for Barbara Sonnier, 66, of Duson, who died at 12:35 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, in Southwest Medical Center in Lafayette.
A rosary was recited Friday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Burial was in St. Basile Mausoleum in Judice.
She is survived by her husband, Belton Sonnier, Duson; one son and his wife, B.J. and Kathy Sonnier, Jr., Duson; one daughter and her husband, Mary and Cleveland Thibodeaux, Rayne; two sisters, Lucille LeBlanc and Nordine Broussard, both of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Rocky Thibodeaux, Rusty Thibodeaux, Christina Hebert, Kenneth Steedlare and B.J. Sonnier, III; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hilda Dodin and Alexis Patin; one brother, Alexis Patin, Jr., and one sister, Helen Credeur.
She was co-owner of B.J. Sonnier Egg Company of Duson.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Thelma Mouton Jones
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. in Cunningham C.M.E. Church, with the Rev. W.K. Rucker officiating, for Thelma Mouton Jones, 74, of Rayne, who died on Dec. 17, 2003, at 7:11 a.m. at her residence in Rayne.
Burial was in the Rayne Protestant Cemetery.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Clint Carter and Bergeron Carter, both of Crowley; a brother, Wesley Mouton, Rayne; three sisters, Ida Carmouche, Rayne, Rosa Senegal, Lake Charles, and Corrine Batiste, Ingel Wood, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Frank Brothers Funeral Home of Eunice was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Dewey ‘Jan’ Navarre
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Father Bill Ruskoski officiating, for Dewey “Jan” Navarre, 85, of Rayne, who died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, in Southwest Medical Center in Lafayette.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel.
Burial was in Highland Memorial Cemetery in Lake Charles.
He is survived by two sisters, Gladys Freeman and Mildred Godeaux, both of Rayne; four brothers, James Navarre, Turkey Creek, Wallace Navarre, Toomey, Allen Navarre, Rayne, and Emerson Navarre, Orange, Texas ; and two loving nieces, Charli Kiser and Shirley Simon, who were his caregivers.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Elizabeth Schexnayder and John Willie Navarre; one brohter, Weday Navarre; and four sisters, Lou Murphy, Rose Goudeaux, Hazel Navarre, and Lili Mae St. Almond.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and Marines during World War II in England, France, Belgium and the United States. He was a florist and owner of Jan’s Rose Ridge Florist in Port Arthur, Texas .
He was a resident of Port Arthur, Texas , for 20 years and a native of Rayne. He moved back to Rayne and lived here for the past eight months.
