Vernell Morgan
INDIAN BAYOU — Funeral Services for Vernell Morgan, 81, of Indian Bayou were held Sunday, Dec. 8, at Indian Bayou United Methodist Church. Burial was at the Indian Bayou United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Ms. Morgan died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at Herman Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, Texas .
She was a native and lifelong resident of Indian Bayou. She taught school at Indian Bayou for over 25 years, and was loved by all her students for her sweet dispositon and for integrating crafts into all their studies. Her love of crafts continued through her work in several Home Demonstration clubs, most recently the Vermilion Parish Homemakers Club. She was a lifelong member of Indian Bayou United Methodist Church where in earlier years she taught Sunday school and Bible school.
Survivors include a sister, Trevlyn Brookshire and her husband, Buck, of Beaumont; a brother, Gervis Morgan of Indian Bayou; and a sister-in-law, Leona Morgan of Sulphur; seven nieces and nephews, 23 great-nieces and nephews and five great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elic and Dottie Morgan, and a brother, Ross Morgan.
Duhon Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Virginia L. Foreman
CROWLEY -- Funeral services for Virginia L. Foreman, 68, were set Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002,. at 2 p.m. in the Duhon Funeral Home chapel in Crowley with the Rev. Joseph Greenwell officiating. Burial set in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Ms. Foreman died Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 11:48 a.m. in Bayou Village Nursing Home in Crowley.
She is survived by three sons, Dale, Keith and Brian Foreman, all of Crowley; two brothers, Kerney Leblanc of Houston and Kermit Leblanc of Rayne; three sisters, Patsy Comeaux of Rayne, Inez Johnson of Rayne and Lezie Mae Hanks of Opelousas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Alfred Foreman; her parents, Preston and Chementine Leblanc; a brother, Preston Leblanc Jr.; and a sister, Glayds Hoffpauir.
Duhon Funeral Home was in charge of arragements.

Douglas J. Daigle
CROWLEY -- Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at St. Michael Catholic Church for Douglas J. “Doug” Daigle, 60, who died at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Fr. Gary Schexneyder will officiate for the services and a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home.
Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. and again Thursday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
Burial will be in Acadia Resthaven Cemetery in Crowley.
Survivors include his wife, Johnette Byler Daigle of Crowley, one daughter, Darla Daigle of Broussard, two sons, Dayne Daigle of Las Vegas, Nevada and Duke Daigle of Lafayette; his parents, Bert and Ruth Daigle of Scott, two sisters, Susan Strother and her husband David of Lafayette and Sandra Burton and her husband Wayne of Scott; two brothers, Mike Daigle and his wife Susan of St. Louis, Missouri and Steven Daigle of Scott; 12 nieces and nephews.
One of five children born to Bert and Ruth Daigle in Iota, “Coach Daigle” as he was referred to attended and graduated from St. Francis High School and attained a degree in education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana at Lafayette and later a Master’s degree from McNeese State University in Lake Charles.
Daigle first taught at Westlake High School and then moved back to Acadia Parish where he taught and coached at Notre Dame High School. Daigle later served as principal at Our Lady Immaculate Conception in Jennings.
After retiring from the parochial school system, he joined the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office as a D.A.R.E. officer for the young people of the parish. He retired from that position a few years ago.
“Coach Daigle” was honored recently during pre-game ceremonies of a UL-Lafayette Ragin Cajun baseball game where he and members of Notre Dame’s only championship baseball team were honored. UL-Lafayette’s head coach, Tony Robichaux tutored under Daigle while at Notre Dame.In the pre-game festivities, Daigle was commended not only on his coaching abilities, but on the life lessons he taught his players on and off the field.
The family would like to thank Lafayette General Oncology Unit, Dr. Eugene Brierre and his staff along with the many supportive and caring friends in Acadiana.
“Double D” was a respected teacher, role model and will always remain “Coach Daigle.”

Verdie Leger
CANKTON -- The Funeral Mass was recited Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at St. John Berchman Catholic Church for Verdie Boudreaux Leger, 84, the fomer Verdie Boudreaux, who died Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 9:45 a.m. in St. Agnes Nursing Home in Breaux Bridge.
Burial as in St. John Berchman Cemeter. The Rev. Mario Romero officiated.
Ms. Leger was a native of Cankton and a resident of Lafayette. She had been employed at Trappey’s as a canner. She was a parishioner of St. Jules Catholic Church in Lafayette.
Survivors include four daughters, Nell Rose Thibodeaux and her husband, Linis, of Church Point, Gloria Moreau and her husband, Levorel, of Lake Charles, Elaine Marie Thibodeaux and her husband, William, of Lafayette, and Phyllis Menard and her husband, Andy, of Houston; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandhildren, and one great-great-grandchild; two sister, Virginia Mire and her husband, Percy, and Hazel Prejean and her husband, Alibe, all of Mire.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie Leger; a son, John Eldridge Leger; a grandson, Ray John Moreau; her parents, Morris Boudreaux and the former Alice Roy; four brothers, Arcin, Cyrus, Freddie and Joseph Emery Boudreaux; and three sisters, Lucille Lavergne, Bertha Stelly and Julia Albarado.
Melancon Funeral Home of Carencro was in charge of arrangements.

Willis Lee Wagner Jr.
Willis Lee Wagner Jr., 61, of Rayne died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at 10:58 p.m. at Southwest Medical Hospital in Lafayette. Memorial services will be announced.
Survivors include a daughter, Christine Reed of Lake Charles; his mother, Yolla Wagner of Rayne; a brother, Charles Ray Wagner of Rayne; a sister, Cindy Prejean of Lafayette; two grandchildren, Melissa Olivier and Kayden Reed Olivier, and a step-grandson, Kaleb Olivier. He was preceded in death by his father, Willis Lee Wagner Sr.
Duhon Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Gwendolyn Guidroz
CHURCH POINT -- Funeral services were Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, for Gwendolyn Bergeron Guidroz, 42, of Sunset. Burial was in Olsh New Mausoleum in Chuch Point. The Rev. Nickie Trahan officiated.
She died Monday, Dec. 9, at 3:40 p.m. at her home.
Survivors include three sons, Jonathon Guidroz and his wife, Tricia, of Port Barre, Jeremy Guidroz of North Carolina, and Matthew Guidroz of Church Point; two brothers, Richard Bergeron of Church Point and Brent Bergeron of Morgan City; a grandson, Cameron Paul Guidroz, and several nieces and nephews.
Duhon Funeral Home of Chuch Point was in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Paul Sinegal
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Branch, with the Rev. Craig Gregory officiating for Joseph Paul Sinegal, 63, of Rayne, who died on Nov. 27, 2002, in Crowley’s American Legion Hospital.
Burial was in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Branch.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl Sinegal, Rayne; nine daughters, Rita Guidry, Barbara Rochon, Harriet Rogers, Dorothy Randall, Angela Sinegal, Cheryl Harmon, Makeysha Monroe, Lee Audry Sinegal, all of Rayne, and Kimberly Yokum, Fort Polk, La.; two sisters, Mary Bernard, Rayne, and Retha Brannon, Houston, Texas ; a brother, Joseph Gilbert Sinegal, Houston, Texas ; 21 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Owens-Thomas Funeral of Crowley was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Miguel Alvarez
SUNSET –– Funeral services were held at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, in the St. Charles Church in Grand Coteaux for Miguel Alvarez, 27, of Sunset, who died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at 6:30 a.m. in his Sunset home.
Burial was in the St. Charles Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis T. Alvarez, Sunset; two stepdaughters, Rami Chiasson and Paige Ciasson, both of Sunset; one son, Dakota Gravitte, Sedillia, Mo; his mother, Kayla Smith, Houston, Texas ; stepfather, Vio Rezenzic, Houston Texas ; father, Miguel Alvarez, Mexico; two brothers, Josha Alvarez and Gaberial Alvarez, both of Houston, Texas .
Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Oday Thibodeaux
BRANCH — Funeral services for Oday “Thib” Thibodeaux, 69, of Branch, were held Wednesday, Dec. 4, at St. Edmund Catholic Church, with the Rev. Francis Bourgeois officiating. Burial was in St. Edmund Cemetery.
Mr. Thibodeaux died Monday, Dec. 2. 2002, at 9:30 a.m. at Rehab Hospital of Acadiana in Youngsville.
Mr. Thibodeaux worked at Fontenot’s Slaughter House for 19 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 405, and of the Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Janell F. Thibodeaux; three sons, Anatole “Andy” Thibodeaux and his wife, Laurie, of Branch, Troy Thibodeaux and his wife Darlene of Glenmorer, and Cody Thibodeaux of Branch’ two daughters, Josette Thibodeaux and Frances Thibodeaux, both of Branch; five grandchildren, Dustyne, Dakota, Brittany and Faith Thibodeaux, and Nicholas Rollin; three brothers, Thomas, Lennis and Odesse Thibodeaux, all of Duson; and one godchild, Bernella “Beaun” Albarado of Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anatole and Alice Thibodeaux; two brothers, Sylvan and infant Thibodeaux; and a sister, Amy Thibodeaux.
Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point was in charge of arrangements.
