Eve Gaspard Gary
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Eve Gaspard Gary, 87, who died Sunday, February 29, 2004, in Scott.
Survivors include one son, Olen Gary of Baton Rouge; one daughter and her husband, Jean and Al Chaisson of Scott; two sisters, Eva Raborn of Baton Rouge, and Ella Gary of Crowley; four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Gary, three brother and four sisters.
She was a member of the Ladies Altar Society.
Pallbearers were Tim Gary, Troy Gary, Jim Gore’, Brandon Gary, Patrick Gary, and Brad Gary. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Morgan, Wilmer LaPoint, and Wilburt Gary.
A Rosary was recited Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Burial was in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Lené Lavergne
Funeral arrangements are incomplete for Lené Lavergne, 76, of Rayne, who died early Wednesday morning at his residence after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Amy Walsh Lavergne; three sons and their wives, Larry and Apollo Lavernge of Crowley, Gerald and Noelie Lavergne of Duson, and Kevin and Stacie Lavergne of California; two daughters and their husbands, Cheryl and Russell Potier of Scott, and Lorraine and Scott Daigle of Bruly; 16 grandchildren, one step-granddaughter, and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Maude Lavergne; one daughter, Patricia Lavergne; one half-brother, Martin Lavergne; and four half-sisters, Nola Trahan, Edith Meaux, Ozita LeBlanc and Martha Cormier.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Lane Lavergne, Chris Lavergne, Rusty Potier, Jessica Wasacz, Ainsley Lavergne and Blaire Leger.
Mr. Lavergne was a 1945 graduate of Rayne High School.
He was a Navy veteran who served in the Pacific from 1945 to 1946. He was a retired 50-year veteran rice and soybean broker who worked for Broussard Rice Mill of Mermentau, Edmondson Duhe of Rayne and Don Harrington Rice of Crowley.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Mae Zaunbrecher
Funeral services were held Monday, February 23, 2004, at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Edna T. “Mae” Zaunbrecher, who died Saturday, February 21, 2004, at Abbeville General Hospital.
Survivors include four sisters Marjorie Theriot of Rayne, Dorothy T. Rhotenberry of Rayne, Myrtle T. Brooks of Lafayette, and Annie T. Smith of The Village, Fla.
Mrs. Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Zaunbrecher; her parents, Arthur and Edna Belliveau Theriot; and three brothers, Arthur Jr., Roland A., and Louis Theriot.
She was a member of the Ladies Altar Society, and the Catholic Daughters of America.
Visitation was Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. until services. A Rosary was recited Sunday at 7 p.m.
Burial was be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Anton Habetz
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2004, at a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Leo IV Catholic Church for Anton Habetz, 78, who died Thursday. Feb. 12, 2004, in Crowley American Legion Hospital.
interment was in St. Leo IV Cemetery.
The celebrant and homilist Rev. Thomas Habetz, son of Mr. Habetz, conducted the funeral and the services.
Reader was Sylvester Leonards, his godchild. Altar servers were John Raymond, Trent Leonards, Lance Hbetz, Jacob Smith.
At graveside service, Brian Gary played the Trumpet.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Joselynn Eve LeLeux Habetz, of Roberts Cove; ten children and their spouses, Josette Dupuis and husband Ray, of Roberts Cove, Monica Miller and husband Charles, of Centerburg, Ohio, Martin Habetz and wife Jennifer, of Roberts Cove, Nicholas Habetz and wife Cindy, of Crowley, Barbara H. Cramer, of Crowley, Dennis Habetz and wife Toni, of Roberts Cove, Dewayne Habetz, of Lake Charles, Alois Habetz and wife Gaylin, of Iowa, Fr. Thomas Habetz, a priest of Diocese of Lafayette, Hilary Habetz, of Roberts Cove; 17 grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph Habetz, of Louraville, William Habetz and wife Agnes, of Ragley; five sisters, Clara Habetz, of Roberts Cove, Sr. Marie Habetz CDP, of San Antonio, Texas , Cecilia Zaunbrecher, of Crowley, Bernardine Leonards and husband Blaise, of Mamou, Bertha Owen, of Saltillo, Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph William Habetz and Franziska Theunissen Habetz; three brothers, Pirmin H. Habetz, Msgr. Daniel Habetz, Martin Habetz; one sister, Hilda Habetz; one grandchild, Amanada C. Dupuis; one godchild, Gregory Habetz.
Pallbearers were six of his seven sons, Martin, Nick, Dennis, Dewayne, Alois, Hilary Habetz.
Honorary pallbearers were Connie Habetz, Bruno Habetz, Eileen Own Habetz godchildren of Mr. Habtez.
A rosary wasrecited at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Friday.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Joseph Istre
Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, at 2 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Father Bill Ruskoski officiating, for Joseph Istre, 91, of Rayne, who died at 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2004, at his home.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday night in the funeral home chapel.
He is survived by his wife, Eunice Istre, Rayne; one daughter, Cloma Griffin, Kaplan; four sons, Alex Istre and Adam Istre, both of Rayne, and Raymond and Eddie Istre; one sister, Neome Nero; 23 grandchidrenl; 42 great-children; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren; his parents; and six siblings.
DuhonFuneral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Wilson Paul Gaspard
Rayne – Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2004, in St. Joseph Catholic Church at a Mass of Christian Burial for Wilson Paul Gaspard, 86, who died at 1:30 a.m. at Rayne Guest Home.
interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery #2.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-eight years, Nola C. Gaspard, of Rayne; one daughter, Diana Stutes, of Duson; two sons, Wilford J. Gaspard, of Rayne, and Lawrence Gene Gaspard, of Rayne; one sister, Hazel Servant, of Lake Charles; eight grandchildren; and twenty-two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodule Gaspard and Anola Trouvie Gaspard; one brother, Widly Gaspard; and one sister, Virginia Haley.
Mr. Gaspard was a life long farmer, and was a past president of the Acadia Parish Drainage Board.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday.
Pallbearers were Paul Stutes, Richard Gaspard, Kevin Gaspard, Cory Gaspard, Shannon Gaspard and Bobby Musso. Honorary pallbearers were Skylar Gaspard and Steve Zuklie.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Romain Hernandez
Funeral services were held Monday, February 16, 2004, at a 2 p.m. service in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Romain Hernandez, age 94, who died Saturday, February 14, 2004, at 2:30 PM in the Medical Center of Southwest Louisiana .
interment was in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2 in Rayne.
The Rev. Tim Richard, pastor of St. Edmond Catholic Church, conducted the services. Assisting was be the Rev. Pres Riley, pastor of First Baptist Church in Abbeville and the Rev. Noah Langley, chaplain of Hospice of Acadiana.
Pianist Christie Hargrave, played for the services, “Sweet Beulah Land”, “Amazing Grace”, “Sweet By and By”, “You Are My All In All”, and “How Great Thou Art”. Special music was “I Can Only Imagine”.
Survivors include his wife, Odile Hulin Hernandez, of Lafayette; one daughter, Joyce H. Broussard, of Lafayette; one son, Gilford J. Hernandez, of Rexburg, Idaho; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Gertie Thibodeaux, of Grand Coteau.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lydia Lagrange Hernandez; his parents, Andrew and Edith Roy Hernandez; his son-in-law, Darryl M. Broussard; three sisters; and four brothers.
A native of Judice and a resident of Lafayette since 1940, Mr. Hernandez was a member of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.
Prior to his retirement he was employed by the City of Lafayette from 1958 until 1972 and was formerly employed as an ambulance driver for the State of Louisiana from 1940 until 1956.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Hernandez‚s name may be made to the Salvation Army, 212 6th St., Lafayette, LA 70501.
A rosary was prayed Sunday at 6:30 p.m. in the Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Ricky Fruge‚, Randy Hernandez, Rodrick Broussard, Darren Broussard, Robert Perioux and John Carnes.
Honorary pallbearers were Tiny Thibodeaux, Gil Hernandez, Russ Hernandez and Gilford J. Hernandez.
Arrangements were entrusted to Martin & Castille Funeral Home, Inc. of Lafayette.
