Rascoe
Lola Rascoe, 98
Funeral services for Lola Whatley Rascoe, 98, of Quitman were held Oct. 28 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dwayne M. Boudreaux officiating. Burial followed in the New Hope Cemetery.

Mrs. Rascoe died Oct. 25 at Jackson Parish Hospital.

Born Feb. 20, 1905 in Ruston, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by daughter, Carolyn Robinson and husband Dean of Jonesboro; son, Lindsey Lamar Rascoe of Houston; brother, Ardis Whatley of Pineville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jim Strain, Ben Strain, Joel Robinson, Whitney Pesnell, John Rascoe and Alan Pesnell.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Simpson
Iriece Simpson, 73
Funeral services for Iriece Bridges Simpson, 73, of Hodge were held Nov. 3 at the Sweetwater Baptist Church with the Revs. Danny Stevenson, Elton Gunter and Stuart Toms officiating. Burial followed in the Sweetwater Baptist Cemetery.

Mrs. Simpson died Oct. 31 at the Jackson Parish Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Born March 3, 1930 in Bienville, she was a retired licensed cosmetologist and cosmetology instructor. She was also a former alderwoman for the town of North Hodge. She was a member of the Antioch Bible Way Church in Goldonna.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy W. Bridges.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Simpson of North Hodge; daughters, Suzanne Atkins and husband Glen of Ruston; foster daughter, Gloria Ramsey of Dallas; son, Mickey Box of Winnfield; sisters, Janice Brown and husband R.E. of Hodge, Sue Denton and husband Don of Quitman, Brenda Robison and husband Cleeve of Calhoun and Jeanie Howard and husband Randy of Quitman; brother, William Dan Bridges and wife Opal of Jonesboro; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers were Charles Bridges, Chris Howard, Cleeve Robison, Randy Howard, Mark Treadway, Rodney Treadway, Jimmy Roy Ramsey and Gary Brown. Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Brown
Julie Brown, 31
Services for Julie Michelle Brown, 31, were held Oct. 18 at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Mike Joiner and Bill Staples officiating. Burial followed in the Gayla Traina Memorial Cemetery.

Julie died Oct. 14 at her home in Ruston. She was a real estate secretary.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Edward and Virginia Persons and her paternal grandparents, Ben and Jessie Brown.

She is survived by her mother, Pat Eason of Bryceland; father, Wallace Brown and wife Pam of Jonesboro; sister, Kristy Brown; brothers, Lee Brown, Brandon Brown; nieces Courtney Brown, Ray Brown; nephew, Brian Brown, all of Jonesboro; very special friend, James Roane; special friends, Bill Roane, Sherry Roane, Ruth Mathews and Alicia Spillers.

Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Logan
Willow Logan, 80
Funeral services for Willow Dean Logan, 80, were held Oct. 20 at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Jonesboro with the Revs. Dr. Tom Logan and Tim Lawson officiating. Burial followed in Ansley Cemetery.

Mrs. Logan died Oct. 17 at the Jackson Parish Hospital.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Ansley Union Church.

She is survived by sons, Billy Logan of Winnfield and Dr. Tom Logan of Desterhan; daughters, Sandy Huddleston of Winnfield and Mary “Sissy” Theriot of Ruston; brothers, Adrin Woods of Simsboro and T.R. Woods of Bridge City, Texas ; sister, Boyce Weeks of Quitman; grandchildren, Clay Logan, Katie Theriot, Carly Logan and Cayse Logan; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Don Causey, Lamar Tarver, Matt Walker, Joe Theriot, David Huddleston, Clay Logan and Cayse Logan.

Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Weaver
Hulen Weaver, 63
Funeral services for Hulen Wayne Weaver, 63, of Jefferson , Texas were held Oct. 26 at the Briarwood Baptist Church with the Rev. V.L. Montgomery officiating. Burial followed in the Strange Cemetery in Saline.

Mr. Weaver died Oct. 24 at Marshall Regional Hospital.

He was born Jan. 10, 1940 in Chestnut.

He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Pearl Weaver Jr.; step-father, Floyd W. Riddle; and younger brother, Floyd Alan Riddle.

He is survived by his mother, Gertrude Mathews Riddle of Bossier City; brother, Sam Weaver and wife Deanna of Kilgore, Texas ; and sisters, Karen Riddle of Bossier City and Iris Weaver Hawthorne and husband Dan of Lone Star, Texas .

Pallbearers were Brian Weaver, Craig Weaver, Watson Weaver, Kelvin Hawthorne, Tony Hawthorne, Jon Hawthorne and Cory Collins.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Couch
Denise Couch, 36
A memorial service for Denise Marie Couch, 36, of Hodge will be held Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hodge Baptist Church in Hodge with the Rev. Dwayne Boudreaux officiating. Burial was in the Whitmire Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla. Ms. Couch died Oct. 17 in Shreveport. She was a cashier with G & G Chevron. She is survived by her fiancé, Terry Culver; two daughters, April Couch and Santana Mitchell; one son, Jonathan Antone, all of Hodge; mother, Patricia Cawthon; two brothers, James Cawthon and Johnny Cawthon; and one sister, Tracy Brady all, of Pensacola; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Services are being held by her friends of the North Hodge Community.

Mathews
Mattie J. Mathews, 95
Funeral services for Mattie J. Mathews, 95, of Hodge were held Oct. 16 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dwayne M. Boudreaux officiating. Burial followed in the Friendship Cemetery.

Mrs. Mathews died Oct. 14 at the Jackson Parish Hospital.

Born Oct. 3, 1908 in Bienville, she was a retired bag catcher.

She is survived by daughters, Bernice Durbin of Jonesboro and Pat Folks and husband Bobby Joe of Jonesboro; sons, Jerrel Mathews and wife Bernice of Saline and William C. Mathews and wife Linda of Quitman; sisters, Rooke Bond of Jonesboro, Nina Stewart of Jonesboro and Cloteal Gaines of Jonesboro; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Rodney Folks Sr., Rodney Folks Jr., Jeremy Watkins, Mitchell Folks, Jeremy Watkins, Mitchell Folks, Trey Breshear, Chad Spier and Toby Mixon.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Parker
Thomas Parker, 80
Funeral services for Thomas Edward Parker Jr., 80, of Minden were held at the Rose-Neath Chapel on Oct. 8 with the Revs. Richard Methvin and J.C. Clement officiating. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories.

Mr. Parker died Oct. 6 in Minden.

Born in Bienville Parish, he was a heavy equipment operator and supervisor and a member of the Parkway Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Grace Parker; two grandchildren, Casey Adcock and Marci Adcock; and two sisters, Louise Powell Brandon and Kathleen Caskey.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Parker of Minden; son, Steven Parker of Minden; daughters, Cheryl Whatley and husband Ronnie of Minden, Sally Pope and husband John of Las Vegas, Nev., and Terri Parker of Minden; sisters, Velma Haynes and husband Hebert of Haughton and Gloria Jean Watkins and husband Bobby of Jonesboro; brothers, Alvin E. Parker an wife Hilda of Bossier City and Marvin Parker and wife Patricia of Danville; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services were under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home.

Britt
Leland Britt, 79
Services for Leland H. Britt, age 79, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 at Old Saline Baptist Church with the Revs. Calvin Hubbard and Stuart Toms officiating. Burial was in Old Saline Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Mr. Britt died on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003 at Christus Schumpert Medical Center in Shreveport following a short illness.

Mr. Britt was a retired teacher and a member of Old Saline Baptist Church. He served in the United State Army during World War II as a medic and was wounded by shrapnel while helping his fallen comrades during the invasion of Normandy. He was awarded the Purple Heart and three Battle Stars.

Mr. Britt is survived by sons, William Britt and wife Betty and David Britt and wife Sue, all of Saline; daughter, Judy McNeely and husband Charles of DeRidder; grandchildren, Joel Britt, Nicholas Britt, Shawn Britt, Brian Britt, Jason Douglas, Jeremy Douglas, Daphne McNeely and Jahala McNeely; six great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Bobby Watts, Larry Knotts, Kenneth Herron, Mel Johnson , Nicholas Britt, Brian Britt, Jeremy Douglas and Mike Rogers.
