John Leger
Funeral services were held at 12 noon Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, in St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Scott, with Father Gil Dutel officiating, for John Leger, 56, of Scott, who died at 6:13 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, in the Southwest Medical Center in Lafayette.
A rosary was said at 7 p.m. Friday.
Burial was in the St. Peter and Paul Mausoleum.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores Leger, Scott; three sons and spouses, Derrick Leger, Carcencro, Del and Traci Leger, Cecilia, and Coby Leger, Scott; three daughters and their spouses, Sandra and Marvin Manuel and Shelly Leger, all of Lafayette, and Shelly and Tom Dupuis, Scott; a loyal godchild, Blaine Carpenter, Duson; two brothers, Malcolm Leger, Carencro, and Mickey Leger, Jackson ville, Fla.; five sisters, Patricia Savoy, Cynthia Cormier and Vickey Matte, all of Cankton, Cinderella Miller, Arnaudville, and Susan Mateen, Lafayette; 10 grandchildren, Jaide Leger, Mitchell Meche, Ashlyn Dupuis, Kynzi Dupuis, Kaily Girauard, Coran Leger, Brennan Dupuis, Devyn Meche, Randi Manuel and Cole Dupuis; and his ex-wife, Patsy Leger, Cankton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rita Menard and Erfy Leger; one brother, Joseph C. Leger, and one sister, Sandra Sue Leger.
Pallbearers were Derrick Leger, Coby Leger, Coran Leger, Del Leger, Blaine Carpenter, and Tommy Dupuis.
Honorary pallbearers were Malcolm Leger, Ray Kent Hebert, Mickey Leger and Lealand Willis.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Kala M. Thibodeaux
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, for Kala Marie Thibodeaux, 14, who died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at University Medical Center in Lafayette.
Survivors include her parents, John and Sharon Bourque Thibodeaux; three brothers, William, John II, and Michael Thibodeaux; maternal grandparents, P.W. and Mary Bourque of Abbeville; maternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L.P. Bourque of Abbeville; and paternal grandmother, Janette Thibodeaux of Rayne.
Kala was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Leroy Thibodeaux, and paternal uncle, Randy Thibodeaux.
Kala’s family wishes to thank the friends who stood by her over the years.
Burial was in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Lloyd James Nickel
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 16, 2004 at 11 a.m. for Lloyd James Nickel, 75, at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley. Mr. Nickel died at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at Memorial Medical Center Mercy Campus in New Orleans.
Entombment was in Woodlawn Mausoleum in Crowley. Officiating for the funeral service were Father Rusty Richard, pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Crowley.
Mr. Nickel was a graduate of Scott High School and Southwest Louisiana Institute (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette). He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving in Alaska during World War II. Mr. Nickel was a golf professional and a member of the Professional Golf Association from 1959 until present. He managed and operated Bayou Bend Country Club in Crowley for over 40 years.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Privat Nickel of Crowley; a daughter, Mary Aline Nickel Melanson and her husband Michael; five sons, Jack Edward Nickel and his wife Phillis, Randall Jules Nickel and his wife Jeanne, Jeffrey Paul Nickel and his wife Stacy, and Stephen Lloyd Nickel and his wife Courtney, all of Crowley, and James William Nickel and his wife Susan of Baton Rouge; a sister, Shirley N. Leonards of Roberts Cove; and 21 grandchildren, Jennifer, Mamie and Courtney Melanson, Jason, Justin, John, Caroline and Jack Nickel, Jeff and Ashley Duhon, Elizabeth, Brice, Taylor , John David and Sarah Nickel, Samantha Jarman, Maggie, Isabella, Riley, Catherine and Oliver Nickel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Woodley Nickel and Mary Nugent Nickel; and a brother, Mabry Syr Nickel.
Pallbearers were his five sons and son-in-law, Dr. Michael Melanson.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Jack Frank, Causby Hamic, Norris Breaux, Walter Armento, the Honorable Judge Don Aaron (Ret.), Juan Olguin, Lloyd Abadie and Joe B. Stoma III.
Visitation was observed from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday and again from 9 a.m. until service time Friday.
A rosary was recited at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Thursday evening.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the St. Michael Elementary School, Notre Dame High School or Episcopal School of Acadiana scholarship funds.
Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home, Inc. of Crowley was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Agathe Comeaux
Funeral services were held Friday, January 16, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Agathe Castille Comeaux, 72, who died Wednesday, January 14, 2004, at her residence in Rayne.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Roy Comeaux Sr., of Rayne: two sons, Terry and his wife Vanessa Comeaux, and Roy “Jay” Comeaux, Jr., both of Rayne; two daughters, Brenda and her husband Wilfred Johnson of Rayne, and Gilda “Tina” and her husband Claude Hussey of Rayne; eight grandchildren, Tiffany Thibodeaux, Angie Fruge, Tracy Comeaux, Rachel LeJeune, Curtis Johnson , Michelle, Brandon, and Blake Hussey; and seven great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Blaire, and Alexis Thibodeaux, Aislinn and Royce Thibodeaux, Christian Comeaux, and Myra LeJeune; and one brother, George Castille of Rayne.
Mrs. Comeaux was preceded in death by her parents, Jean and Elmire Castille; one brother, Emery Castille; and one sister, Georgie Simon.
The family wishes to thank Dr.Joseph Beirre and staff, Dr. D. Thomas Curtis and staff, and Louisiana Hospice.
Visitation was from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. until services Friday.
Burial was in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Mariah Jane Moncise
CARENCRO ––Funeral services were held at the Old Melancon Funeral Home in Carencro at 2 p.m.Saturday, January 17, 2004, for Mariah Jane Moncise, nine months old, who died at 11:45 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2004, at her home.
Burial followed at Babyland Cemetery in Carencro.
Mariah Jane was born on April 7, 2003.
She is survived by her parents, Allen Ray Moncise, Jr., and Cheryl Lynn Moncise of Scott; her maternal grandparents, Betty Trahan and Ray Mire of Scott; her paternal grandparents, Thelma Normand of Rayne and Allen Ray Moncise of New Iberia; her maternal great-grandparents, Agnes and Howard Broussard of Lafayette; Her paternal great-grandmother, Wilma R. Normand of Rayne; Her paternal great-great-grandmother, Angella G. Richard of Rayne; her paternal great-great-grandfather, Charles Moncise of New Iberia; two aunts, Leslie Trahan of Abbeville and Jessica Moncise of Rayne; one uncle, Robert Cormier of Rayne; two great-uncles, Ronnie Broussard and his wife Elaine, of Youngsville, and Dennis Normand and his wife Angie, of Church Point; four great-aunts, Barbara Desormeaux and her husband Bradley, of Lafayette, Shirley C. Chaumont and her husband Charles, Mary N. Trahan and her husband Bryan and Renee Nero and her husband Donnie, all of Rayne; and numerous counsins.
She was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandfather, Remy Normand, and paternal great-great-grandparents, Ella R. and Oday Normand, and Dennis Richard, and paternal great-grandmother Evelyn Alleman.
Visiting hours were observed from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
Melancon Funeral Home of Carencro was in charge of arrangements.

Helena Sennette
Memorial services were held Wednesday ,Jan. 14, 2004, at 7 pm at the Starlight Baptist Church for Helena Sennette, 89, who died at her residence in Rayne.
Survivors include two brothers, Martin Lewis, of Rayne, and Johnny Lewis of Port Arthur Texas ; and two sisters, Nola Nickson of Rayne, and Mary Louise Guidry.
Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of arrangements.

Nedia Marie McBride
Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2004, at a Mass of Christian Burial in Gossen Funeral Home Chapel for Nedia Marie McBride, 87, who died at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2004, in Lady of The Oaks Retirement Manor in Lafayette.
interment was in St. Joseph #2 Cemetery.
The Rev. Bill Ruskoski, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church conducted the service.
Survivors include four sisters, Meda Viator, of Lafayette, Effie Comeaux, of Scott, Renola Nelson, of Eunice, Lois Derise, of Lake Charles; one brother, Cliford Moss, of Pale, California; twenty-four niece and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Nick Pena, second husband, Edward McBride; parents, Louis Joseph Moss and Lea Gary Moss; one sister, Noellie Memick; two brothers, Sidney Moss, Shelton Moss.
A rosary was recited at 6 p.m. Sunday.
Visiting hours were observed from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. until time of funeral service Monday.
Pallbearers were Kendall Comeaux, Conrad Comeaux, Kenneth Viator, Mark Derise, David Veillon and Glynn Arceneaux.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Lula Lavergne
Funeral services were held on Monday,Jan. 19, 2004, at 2 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Lula Lavergne, 62, of Duson, who died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at 10:45 p.m. in Southwest Medical Center in Lafayette.
A rosary was recited June at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery No. 2.
Visitation was observed Sunday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Monday form 8 until time of services.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandra M. Lavergne, Duson, and Linda Campbel, Duson; two sons, A. J. Lavergne, Youngsville, and Al Lavergne, Duson; four sisters, Marie Dugas Thersa Pepper, and Jenette Wickman, all of Lafayette, and Alice Touchet, Scott; 10 grandchildren; one step-grandchild, two great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alphe Lavergne, Sr.; her parents, Lucille Leger and Mayo Bourque; and one daughter, Linda Fontenot.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.
