Miriam Baer Richard
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 8, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Miriam Baer Richard, 82, who died Monday at the Cornerstone Village North.
Survivors include three daughters, Penny and her husband R.J. Arceneaux of Deatsville Ala., Susan and her husband Pat Martin of Englewood Colo., and Gloria Collier of Searsport Maine; one son, Dennis and his wife Peggy Richard of Liberty Texas ; four brothers, Max Baer of Lafayette, Bernard Baer of Houston Texas , Sigmund Baer of Woodlake Texas , and L. H. Baer of Eight Mile, Ala.; five sisters Margaret McGrew of Lafayette, Patricia Domingue of Port Arthur, Texas , Jo Ann Rodrigue of Nederland Texas , Kay Weidner of Aubrey, Texas , and Yvonne Gary of Woodlake, Texas ; nine grandchildren; six great-grandsons; and one great- granddaughter.
Pallbearers will be members of Mrs. Richard’s immediate family.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. until services. A Rosary will be recited Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Mrs. Richard’s family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Hospital.
Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Eva Castille
Eva Castille, a native of Rayne and resident of Pride, La., died at 12:20 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at her home. She was 89 years-old.
Visitation was held at Greenoaks Funeral Home in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, Dec. 30, from 5 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 31, from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 2 p.m.
interment followed in the Greenoaks Memorial Park.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and Roland Louviere of Pride; three sons and daughters-in-law, LeRoy and Norma Jean Castille of Carlyss, Harry Castille of Henderson, and Louis and Betty Castille, Jr., of Indian Bayou; two sisters, Dot Bourge and Lea Credeur. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ernest Castille.
Greenoaks Funeral Home of Baton Rouge was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Marie Louise Meche
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at a Mass of Christian Burial in Assumption Catholic Church in Mire for Marie Louise Meche, 89, who died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at Rayne Guest Home.
interment was in Assum-ption Cemetery.
The Very Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington, pastor of Assumption Catholic Church conducted the funeral services.
Survivors include two daughters, Vernida Credeur, of Mire, and Sable M. Rivette, of Rayne; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Meche, Jr.; parents, Espera Doga and Alice Meche Doga; and one brother, Elton Doga.
The Meche Family would like to thank the staff at Rayne Guest Home, Dr. D. Thomas Curtis and Dr. Neal Duhon.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The family requested that the visiting hours be observed from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. until time of services Friday.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

John Tyrone Julian
CR0WLEY - Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2004, at St. Theresa Catholic Church for Mr. John Tyrone Julian, 56, who was called home on Saturday, January 3, 2004.
John Tyrone Julian, son of Wilma Julian and the late Shelton Julian, was born in Rayne, on September 3, 1947, and was a graduate of Holy Rosary Institute.
He attended Grambling State University as a National Merit Scholar, where he met and married Evelyn West. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education before answering his nation’s call to duty. He served in the U.S. Air Force earning the rank of Sergeant as a medical instructor. He was stationed at Shepherd’s Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas .
Following his service during the Vietnam War, Mr. Julian returned home and began his teaching career at Armstrong Elementary in Rayne. While inspiring young minds, he continued his own education, earning his Masters and Educational Specialist Degrees from Louisiana State University. He was appointed principal of Ross Elementary in 1977 where he served for 16 years.
He retired from the Acadia Parish School System in 1992, but continued his work with children as the Director of Education at Cypress Hospital. Mr. Julian also directed the educational program at Northside Treatment Center. He was also an employee of the U.S. Postal Service. While employed with the Postal Service, he obtained his Counselor’s Certification from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
In addition to his dedication to the education of our youth, he also served his community as a member of the Acadia Parish Police Jury for 8 years and a member of the Selective Service Board.
Mr. Julian was a member of the following organizations during his lifetime: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; American Legion Post 15; A & 0 21st Century Club; and Knights of Peter Claver. He was also an avid tennis player.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Evelyn West Julian, of Crowley; his mother, Wilma Julian, of Rayne; one sister, Linda Brumfield, of Rayne; two daughters, Karen King, and her husband Adrian, of Rayne; Shellie Rayford, and her husband Chester of Dallas, Texas ; three grandchildren, Peyton and John Charles King and Jonathan Rayford; nieces Gwen Brumfield, Allyson Brumfield and Jamie Price; foster daughter Philo Quashie and her husband Romotthy, of Olathe, Kan.; three sisters-in-law, Bessie Butler, of Jennings; Lillie Smith (Simon), of Houston; Viola Victor, of Lake Charles; three brothers-in-law, Rev. Hilton West (Annie), of Houston; John West (Florence), of Tacoma, Wash.; Milton West (Brenda), of Lake Charles; and a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be observed at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church from 8 a.m. Thursday until time of service.
Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Syrie Funeral Home, Inc., is in charge of all arrangements.

Onietta Unruh Loewer
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. at Mowata Baptist Cemetery and then a memorial service followed at 3:30 p.m. at Mowata Baptist Church for Onietta Unruh Loewer, 59, who died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
The Rev. Glen Howie and the Rev.Greg Penna officiated for the services. Visitation was observed from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
She is survived by her husband Paul “Jackie”Loewer, Jr.; three children, Heather Miller and her husband Brian of Lancaster, Penn., Ryan Loewer and his wife Suzanne of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Margo Yoder and her husband Matt of Atlanta, Ga.; her parents, Chest and Bernice Bartel Unruh of Hillsboro, Kan.; one sister, Jean Winter and her husband Warren of Hillsboro, Kan.; and three grandchildren, Mackenzie Miller, Jansen Miller, and Anna Yoder.
Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Dennis Joseph Richard
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at a Mass of Christian Burial at Assumption Catholic Church in Mire for Dennis Joseph Richard, 72, who died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at 5:06 p.m. in Amelia Manor Nursing Facility in Lafayette.
interment was in Assumption Cemetery.
The Very Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington, pastor of Assumption Catholic Church, conducted the funeral services.
Survivors include his wife, Adia Trahan Richard, of Rayne; one daughter, Peggy R. Terro, of Indian Bayou; three sons, Ronnie Richard, of Rayne, Russell Richard, of Rayne, Randy Richard, of Rayne; one brother, Belton Richard, of Carencro; two sisters, Ethel Monte, of Rayne, Lurby Vincent, of Abbeville; ten grandchildren, Chad Richard, Reagen Richard, Nico Richard, Jared Richard, Jenee’ Terro, Jeremy Terro, Stacy Leger, Bridget Stelly, Christy Richard, Jessica Quebedeaux; and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claby Richard and Evie Gary Richard.
The family requested visiting hours be observed from 9:30 a.m Friday until time of funeral services.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Lawrence & Betty Matthews, Sr.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Father Bill Ruskoski officiating, for Lawrence Metthews, Sr. , 57, and Betty Matthews, 58, of Rayne.
Mr. and Mrs. Matthews died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005 in a car accident in Lafayette.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, in the funeral home chapel.
Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery No. 2 in Rayne.
Visitation for Mr. and Mrs. Matthews was observed Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services on Saturday.
Survivors include five sons, Jerry Carey, Iota, Ronnie and Melissa Matthews, Lonnie And Roxanne Matthews and Lawrence and Tiffany Matthews, Jr., all of Rayne, and Scotty Bouilion, Crowley; three daughters, Virginia Carey and Warren Hoffpauir and Donna Joe Carey and Kevin Sonnier, all of Crowley, and Belinda Faye Matthews and Shane Hill of Venice, La.; Betty’s mother, Edith Moncreaux, Crowley; Betty’s stepfather, Antoine Cormier, Crowley; Bettty’s three brothers, Harry Monceaux, Crowley, and Melvin Monceaux and Elton Monceaux, both of Rayne; Betty’s sister, Mary Perrodin, Dixon, Texas ; and Lawrence’s sister, Shirley Richard, Scott. They had 15 grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Matthews, Sr.; her faither, Joseph Monceaux; one sister, Dorothy Monceaux and baby siblings.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Moncreaux Matthews; his parents, Eunice LeBlanc and Pierre Matthews; one brother, Charles Trahan; and his stepfather, Esley Trahan.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Wayland Jude Cary
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2005. at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Wayland Jude Cary, 35. who died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, in a Lafayette hospital.
interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery #2.
The eulogy was offered by his sister, Pam C. Guidry. Vocalist was Patrick Menard. Offertory gifts were presented by Coy Queinn and Mia Guidry. The readings were presented by Jade Guidry and Angie Pryor, all cousins.
Survivors include his mother, Lee Birdie Meche Cary, of Rayne; one sister, Pam Cary Guidry and husband Danny; one brother, Darrel Cary and wife Jane, of Rayne; five nephews, two nieces, one great nephew.
He was preceded in death by father, Wilbert Cary; and one brother, Blake Cary.
A rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday.
Visiting hours were observed from 10:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Thursday and from 8:00 a.m. until service time Friday.
Pallbearers were Blake Cary, Kaine Guidry, nephews; Tyler Thibodeaux, Craig Thibodeaux, Chad Webb and Troy Meche, all friends.
Honorary pallbearers were Randy Guidry, Eric Thomas, Dwayne Bergeron, Chris Dupuis, Brent Alleman, Jerrod Meche, Zack Cary and Brad Cormier.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Lucia Pellerin Sonnier
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Lucia Pellerin Sonnier, 86, who died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005 in Heart Hospital of Lafayette.
interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery #2.
Survivors include three daughters, Bernita Sonnier, of Crowley, Juanita Hoffpauir and husband Herman, of Crowley, and Lucy Sonnier, of Crowley; five sons, Oday Sonnier and wife Carita, of Crowley, Ernest Sonnier, of Crowley, Calice Sonnier, Jr., of Crowley, Eldis Sonnier and wife Janice, of Youngsville, Clifton Sonnier, of Pahrump, Nev.; 21 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren; four sisters, Adele Stelly, Ada Hebert, Aline Ockman, Alice Hebert; one brother, Baltazar “Bee” Pellerin, Jr..
She was peceded in death by her husband, Calice Sonnier, Sr.; parents, Baltazar, Sr. and Adele Myers Pellerin; eight brother, Nicolas, Wallace, Edmond, Minus, Oneil, Walter, Alfred and Alcee Pellerin; three sisters, Helen Corley, Regina Bourque, Georgina Michel; two daughters-in-law, Viley Sonnier, Francis Sonnier.
A rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.
The family requested that the visiting hours be observed from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:00 a.m. until service time Thursday.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.
