Blanca Maria Schmidt
Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2005, in First Baptist Church in Rayne for Blanca Marie Schmidt, 48, who died Wednesday, January 26, 2005, in Lafayette General Medical Center.
Survivors include her husband, Hans J. Schmidt, of Rayne; one daughter, Andrea Patricia Schmidt, of Rayne; two sons, Stefae Schmidt, of Rayne, Hans W. Schmidt, of Lafayette; mother, Elba Diaz, father, Joseph Diaz; three sisters, Nancy Mundo, Gloria Gardner, Diana Safi; one brother, Anthony Diaz.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Roberto Diaz.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed at First Baptist Church from 12:00 noon until service time Saturday.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Carolyn V. Mitchell
EAGAN, MINN. –– Carolyn V. Mitchell, 89, formerly of Watertown, S.D. and Willmar, Minn., Passed away on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at the Church of St. John Newmann, 4030 Pilot Knob Rd. at Deerwood in Eagan, Minn., with a gathering of friends to begin one hour prior to the Mass at church.
Private inurnment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Watertown, S.D.
She is survived by daughters Monica (Charles) Stutes of Rayne, Joan (Ken) Busch, and Carol (Dennis) Dingman; sons, Gary (Marield) Mitchell, Ross (Nina), and Kenneth (Georgia) MItchelll; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Clifford, William, Kate and Michael Mitchell, Charles and Joseph Stutes, Leah Demarest, John, David and Matthew Hanken, Steven, Sara and Daniel Dingman and Brian Sheehy; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; her parents; her brothers, William, Norbert, Roman and John Fox; sisters, Agnest Stricherz and Louise Stricherz; and a son, John Mitchell.
Joseph S. Klecatsky & Sons Funeral Home of Eagan, Minn., were in charge of funeral arrangements.

Rita Leona Larcase Booksh
LAFAYETTE –– Funeral services were held at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, January 20, 2005, in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Rita Leona Larcade Booksh, 82, who died Tuesday, January 18, 2005, at Our Lady Of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
interment took place at Lafayette Memorial Park.
The Rev. John DeLeeuw was celebrant of the Mass and conducted the funeral services.
Mrs. Booksh, the daughter of the late William Livingston Larcade and the fomer Josepha Maria Gossen, was a native of Rayne. She attended LSU and SLI. Mrs. Booksh was an avid golfer and member of LeTriomphe Golf and Country Club.
Survivors include her husband of over 57 years, James Howard Booksh, Jr. of Broussard.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Harold W. Larcade.
Pallbearers were Albert W. Pfeuffer, John D. Booksh, II, Robert W. Booksh, Jr., Robert W. Booksh, Sr., Fred Gossen, and Robert W. Green.
Visiting hours were observed on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of services.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Booksh’s name to Alzheimer’s Association, 919 N. Michigan Avenue, Ste, 100, Chicago, Il 60611.
Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, was in charge of all funeral arrangements.

Angela J. Matte
CHURCH POINT –– Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, with Msgr. Fred Swenson officiating, for Angela J. Matte, 38, of Church Point, who died in her home on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel.
Burial was in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery.
She is survived by a companion, Donald Olivier, Church Point; three daughters, Jessica and Paul Trahan, Dana Matte and Shelby Monique Matte, all of Church Point; two sons, Christopher Trent Matte and Bradley James Olivier, both of Church Point; four sisters, Madine Cormier, Sharon Lanclos, and Sarah Olivier, all of Church Point, and Annette Cormier, Houston, Texas ; her mother, Mary Ann Sattler, Church Point; father, Leland Jagneaux, Houston, Texas ; godparents, Bert and Ethel Faul, Church Point; and godchildren, Joshua Cormier and Peyton Boudreaux, both of Church Point.
Ms. Matte was preceded in death by one son, Levence Matte, Jr., both maternal and paternal grandparents; and one niece, Brittany Cormier.
Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Mervin Martin, Sr.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel, with Father Bill Ruskoski officiating, for Mervin Martin, Sr., 48, of Duson, who died at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, in Scott.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery No. 2
He is survived by his wife, Sara Martin, Duson; three sons, Mervin Martin, Jr., New York, and Justin John Martin and Joshua Joseph Martin, both of Duson; eight brothers, Paul Edmond Martin, Youngsville, Kenneth Lee Martin and Terry James Martin, both of Duson, Allen Dale Martin, Scott, William Martin, Lafayette, Leo John Gary, Chester Credeur and Ivy June Credeur II, all of Rayne; and two sisters, Wanda Faye Martin Stelly, Sunset, and Margaret Leger, Texas .
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmond and Emma Jane Martin.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Amos J. Citizen
CHURCH POINT –– Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, in Our Mother of Mercy Church here, with Father Francis Butler officiating, for Amos J. Citizen, 67, of Church Point, who died at 8:31 a.m. Wednesday, Jan.19, 2005, in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
Burial was in Our Mother of Mercy Church Cemetery.
He is survived by three sons, Jerone Citizen, Leon Citizen and Gregory Citizen, all of Church Point; two daughters, Mary (Toni) Citizen, Columbus, Ga., and Elisa Citzen, Lafayette; eight sisters, Linda Brooks, and Mary Ann Green, both of Church Point; Ethel Young, Scott, Elvina Alex, Lafayette, Elrose Giles and Josephine Senegal, both of Beaumont, Texas , and Linda Meche and Joycline Goodwin, both of Lake Charles; six brothers, Leo Citizen, Lake Charles, Linton Brooks, Branch, Leroy Brooks, Lewisburg, Elvin Brooks, New Orleans, Merlin Brooks, Houston, Texas , Willie Batiste, Church Point, and Henry Lee Brooks, Winnie, Texas ; 11 grandchilden; and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Citizen was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Citizen; one infant child; his parents, Henry and Anna Brooks; four sisters; and two brothers.
Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Peter D. Jacobs
CHURCH POINT –– Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, in Our Mother of Mercy Church here, with Father Francis Butler officiaitng, for Peter D. Jacobs, 68, of Church Point, who died at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, in Doctors’ Hospital in Opelousas.
Burial was in Our Mother of Mercy Church Cemetery in Church Point.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine Jacobs, Church Point; four daughters, Mary Ann Jacobs, Debra J. Guidry, Mable Cheeks, and Tabathia J.Gray, all of Church Point; three brothers, Doresey Jacobs, Church Point, and Paul Jacobs and Herman Jacobs, both of Houston, Texas ; five sisters, Mary Citizen. Rose Jacobs and Margret Jacobs, all of Eunice, Irene Moore, Crowley, and Mable Hopkins, Houston, Texas ; six grandchildren, Julie Jacobs, John Guidry, Blake Jacobs, Agnes Cheeks, John (Bugga Bear) Jacobs, and Seymonica Cheeks; and seven great-grandchildren, Robert (Bamm Bamm Gray, Mahjognay Gary, Gabrielle Jacobs, Tylan Jacobs, Taguelyn Jacobs, Ina Wheeler, and Kelandia Bernard.
Mr. Jacobs was preceded in death by one daughter, Lorraine Jacobs; one granddaughter, Domingue Jacobs; and five brothers, Homer, Dan Lee, John, Irvin and Lyman Jacobs.

Norma Jean Meche
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, in the funeral home chapel, with Father Bill Ruskoski officiating, for Norma Jean Meche, 56, of Rayne, who died at 10:14 p.m. Friday, Jan. 221, 2005, at her home in Rayne.
Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
She is survived by two daughters, Joann LeJeune, Rayne, and Angela Duhon, Crowley; three brothers, Donald Breaux, Gladdie Breaux, Sr., and Steven Breaux, all of Rayne; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Christopher Meche; her parents, Gladdie Breaux and Bernice Gaspard; two brothers, Russell and Johnny Breaux; and two sisters, Leila Moore and Betty Faul.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Nolan Joseph Guillot
Crowley –– Funeral services for Nolan Joseph Guillot, 81, of Crowley were held at 11 am Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Crowley. Mr. Guillot died at his residence at 9:33 a.m. Saturday. January 22. 2005, after a brief illness.
Mr. Guillot was the son of the late Louis and Alice Legnion Guillot. The oldest of seven children, he grew up on a farm in the Lyons Point community. Educated in the Acadia Parish school system, he attended business school under the G.I. Bill.
A veteran of WWII, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and served from December 1, 1942 until his discharge on October 23, 1945. He saw duty in the United States, England, and France with the 384th Bomb Group (H), 8th Air Force. He was stationed at Air Base 106 Grafton Underwood for most of his tour.
His first experience in agribusiness was with Louisiana Irrigation and Mill Company, working there from 1939 until 1942 and again from 1946 until 1952. He was manager of Crowley Warehouse from 1952 until 1967 and co-owner and president of G & H Seed Company from 1967 until 1971.
In 1971 he formed Nolan J. Guillot, Inc. He was a member of The Louisiana Seedmen’s Association and the Southern Seedmen’s Association. In 1997, he was named the 61st International Rice Festival Honoree.
Mr. Guillot was a charter member of and usher at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church; charter member and past program chairman of Knights of Columbus 5499; leader of the “Come, Lord Jesus, We Do Believe” prayer group: past president of Greater Gulf Coast Boating Association; past treasurer and board member of St. Michael PTC; a 58-year member of American Legion Post 15 and Post 15 Drum and Bugle Corps; lifetime member of the Harold Bossley VFW Post 6720, serving two years as commander. He also served on the board of directors of Crowley American Legion Hospital and was an active member of the 384th Bomb Group Reunions.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Esther Roy Guillot of Crowley; a son, Patrick Dale Guillot and his wife, Sue, of Columbus, Ga; a daughter, Carolyn 0. Mire of Crowley; his former son-in-law, Nolan Mire; four sisters, Dorothy Simon of Crowley, Etheleen Abshire of Indian Bayou, Bernice Young of Basile, and Geraldine Matte of Pasadena, Texas ; a brother, Oldon Guillot of Morse; six grandchildren, Michelle M. Landry and her husband, Michael, Chad Mire and his wife, Jana, Traci M. Simon and her husband, Trey, Joseph, Jane, and John Guillot; four great-grandchildren, Claire and Michael Jude Landry, and Gabriel and Olivia Mire; one step-great-grandson, Cole Michael Simon.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother. Berness Guillot.
Visitation was observed at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Monday. Jan. 24, and again on Tuesday, Jan. 25 from 8 a.m. until time of services. The Knights of Columbus recited a rosary at 7 p.m. Monday night.
interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Elvin John Davis
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, in the funeral home chapel, with Brother Kenneth Morvant and Brother Sterling Shinn officiating, for Elvin John Davis, 69, of Crowley, who died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at 12:56 a.m. in American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Burial was in the Ky Hebert Cemetery in Roberts Cove.
He is survived by his wife, Louella Davis, Crowley; one son, Richard John Davis, Limestone, Tenn.; two daughters, Patricia Ann BoBo, Crowley, and Sharon Christine Morvant, Farmersville, Texas ; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Schexnider Davis and also his siblings.
Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley was in charge of funeral arrangements.
