Claudette Richard Leger
MIRE –– Claudette Richard Leger, age 84, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, lost her battle with cancer Friday, July 5, 2002. She was born Aug. 13, 1917, to Elie Richard and Melissa Cormier Richard. Claudette married Ernest “Nig” Leger on Dec. 19, 1936. They worked and lived together side by side for 59 and one half years until he Passed away Aug. 9, 1996. She and her husband owned and operated Leger’s General Merchandise Store for more than 20 years in the Mire Community.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements. Visiting hours were from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2002, at Assumption Church and Cemetery in Mire. The Msgr. Russell Harrington was celebrant of the Funeral Mass and conducted the services.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest “Nig” Leger; four sisters; three brothers; and her parents.
Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Leger Hebert and her husband, Damian Hebert of Lafayette; three sons, Joseph Glen “Joe” Leger and his wife, Pam, of Mire; Ludrine Leger and his wife, Nellie Bearb Leger, of Mire and Tommy Leger and his wife, Barbara Bouillon Leger, of Scott; four grandchildren, Brent Leger and his wife, Caunelia, of Lafayette, Randy Leger and his wife, Shelley, of Scott; Keith Leger and his wife, Cathi, of Lafayette, and Sarah Hebert, of Lafayette. Great-grandchildren include Brittany and Alyssa Leger, Nicholas and Chase Leger, and Dylan Leger.
Pallbearers were her sons, grandsons and son-in-law.
The family would like to thank Our Lady of the Oaks Retirement Manor, her sitters, Joyce, Michelle, and Angela and Hospice of Acadiana, and especially her wonderful and caring nurse, Kelly Zaunbrecher.

Verna Mae D. Sonnier
CHURCH POINT –– Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2002, in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church here, with Father Nicky Trahan officiating, for Mrs. Verna Mae D. Sonnier, 58, of Church Point, who died at 8:20 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2002, in her home in Church Point.
Burial was in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart’s New Cemetery.
She is survived by her mother, Odelia C. Deshotel, Church Point; one son, David Sonnier, Church Point; one sister, Mrs. Linus Matte, Church Point; three brothers, John Rogers Deshotel, Pride, Leroy Deshotel, Fauribault, Minn., and Leeray Deshotel, Church Point; and her companion, Wilton Cormier,

Jerry Milton Hamm
MINDEN –– Jerry Milton Hamm of Ringold died at the age of 47 in a Shreveport hospital at 2:25 a.m. July 23, 2003, after a lengthy illness.
He served as a Rayne police officer from 1980-1983.
He is survived by three children: Christopher Hamm of Rayne, Danielle Hamm of Rayne and Misty Brunner of Bouma Texas .
Services were held at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Minden on Friday, July 25 2003, at 10 a.m.
Burial was in Minden.

Robert (Bobby) Leger, Sr.
DEER PARK, TEXAS –– A Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2003, at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in Deer Park, Texas , for Robert (Bobby) Leger, Sr., 75, who died on Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at University of Texas Medical Branch Hospital in Galveston, Texas .
interment was in St. Leo’s Cemetery in Roberts Cove.
He was born in Iota, grew up in Rayne and lived most of his life in Pasadena, Texas . He served in the U.S. Navy, was a retired pipefitter and member of Local 211, and a member of St. Hyacinth Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Angela Berken Leger of Pasadena, Texas , two sons, Robert Leger, Jr. and wife Debbie of Hunington, W. Va.., Richard Leger and wife Angela of Rosharon, Texas , three daughters, Pamela L. Harmon and husband Tony of Branch, Carolyn L. Chontas and husband Bill of Dickinson, Texas , and Sandra L. Epps and husband Glenn of Roberts Cove; two brothers, Avery Leger and Merton Leger of Rayne; two sisters, Racie Darcie of Deer Park, Texas , and Gertie Heinen of Rayne; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leza and Leonie Leger; five brothers, Lee Leger, Clifton Leger, Oris Leger, Dudley Leger, and Harry Leger; and two sisters, Amy Braquet and Iris Tompkins.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday
Pallbearers were Robert Leger, Jr., Richard Leger, Jeremy Harmon, Ryan Leger, Sam Epps, and Tony Harmon. Honorary pallbearer was Skip Leger.
Pasadena Funeral Chapel in Pasadena, Texas , was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Jewel Mott Stephens
CROWLEY –– Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2003, in Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Crowley, with the Rev. Keith Mathews officiating, for Jewel Mott Stephens, 88, of Church Point, who died at 4 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2003, in Lafayette General Medical Center.
Burial was in the West Crowley Cemetery.
She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Jewel LeDay, Church Point, Brenda Joyce Victoria and Eldora Hall, both of Oakland, Calif.; one son, Edward Stephens, Jr., North Fork, Va.; 25 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Allen Mott, Orange, Texas ; and two sisters, Ann Mott and Genieve Mott, both of Monroe, Texas .
Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Percy R. Hebert
New Iberia-–Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2003, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church for Percy R. Hebert, 76 who died 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at his residence in New Iberia
interment was in Holy Family Mausoleum with Military Graveside Services conducted by VFW Post #1982 Honor Guard. Fr, Charles Langlois conducted services.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in World War lI. Mr. Hebert was a pipefitter foreman, having retired from McDermott Shipyards.
Survivors include his wife Nora Hillis Hebert of New Iberia; four daughters, Brenda Hebert of Lafayette, Sandy H. Hopson and husband Benny of Broussard, Andy H. Donatcili and husband David of Mary Esther, Fla., and Mary H. Hopkins and husband Mike of Broussard; one son, Kenny J. Hebert of Port St. Joe, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Lance Hopson of Broussard, Heather Hopson of Broussard, David H. Donatelli, II of Shreveport. Joseph Donatelli, of Mary Esther, Fla., Steven Hopkins of Broussard, Nichole Hebert, of Broussard, Lauren Hebert of Broussard, Kimberly Carrier of Berwick; four great-grandchildren, Kelse’ Richard of Crowley, Jade Russo, Chaz Russo, and Josie Carrier, all of Berwick; one brother, John J. Hebert of Rayne; two sisters, Pearl R. Pape twin sister of Houston and Gloria T. Brodell of Houston.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph A. and Dora M. Hebert; one brother, Joseph Allen Hebert; and one grandson, Christopher Allen Hebert.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Pallbearers were David Donatelli, II, Joseph Donatelli, Benny Hopson, Mike Hopkins, David Donatelli, and Kenneth Pool. Honorary Pallbearers were Steven Hopkins, Lane Hernandez, and Lance Hopson.
Evangeline Funeral Homes, Inc. of New Iberia is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Lula Mae Dugas Mire
Mire - Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2003, at a Mass of Christian Burial in Assumption Catholic Church for Lula Mae Dugas Mire, 71, who died Wednesday, July 16, 2003.
interment was in Assumption Cemetery in Mire.
Survivors include one son, Clyde Joseph Mire, Jr., of Mire; four daughters, Lorida Delhomme, Elaine Menard, Darlene Miller, all of Mire, and Vickie Pennell, of Pennsylvania ; three brothers, Willie Dugas, of Duson, Roy Dugas, of Denham Springs, and Louis Dugas, of Rayne; five sisters, Helen Moss, of Baton Rouge, Joyce Trahan, of Duson, Mary Dupuis, of Rayne, Edna Dupuis, of Kaplan, and Betty Martin, of Duson; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Joseph Mire, Sr.; parents, Joseph Baron Dugas and Rena Cahanin Dugas; one brother, Frank Dugas; and two sisters, Virginia Dupuis, and Vanola Guidry.
Rosarys were prayed at 7 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. Friday.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne (337)334-3141.

Harold “Billy” Boudreaux
NEW IBERIA –– Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2003, at a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, with Father Ken Broussard officiating, for Harold “Billy” Boudreaux, 62, of New Iberia, who died at 4:12 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2003, in Gonzales.
Visitation will be observed at David Funeral Home, Trotter Street, New Iberia, from 9 a.m. and remain open all night until time of services on Thursday.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Burial will be in the Holy Family Mousoleum in New Iberia.
Graveside rites will be conducted by V.F.W.Post 1982 of New Iberia.
A native of Acadia Parish and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Boudreaux was the owner of Woody’s Wrecker Service, Inc. He was a member of “T.R.P.L.” and the Evangeline Chapter of A.A.C.A. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Era, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion Post 4 of New Iberia.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Darby Boudreaux of New Iberia; his father, Ernest Boudreaux, Rayne; mother, Jeanne Myers Boudreaux, Rayne; son, Marcus Boudreaux; grandson, Marcus Boudreaux, Jr.; granddaughter Harley Boudreaux; and brother, Roland Boudreaux, Rayne.
Pallbearers will be Walter Girouard, Jude Boudreaux, Todd Boudreaux, Gerald Pellerin, Robbie Tarver, and David Darby.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Angelle, Roland Boudreaux, Marcus Boudreaux, Jr., and Louis Darby, Jr.
Services are under the direction of David Funeral Home of New Iberia.

Cleveland Leger, Jr.
Funeral services were held at Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at 4 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Father Thomas Vu officiating, for Cleveland Leger, Jr., 84, of Rayne, who died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, July 20, 2003, at his residence here.
A rosary was recited Monday night at 7 p.m. in the funeral home’s chapel.
Burial was in the the St. Joseph Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda Mae Leger, Rayne; one daughter, Sue and husband Johnny Larriviere, Forth Worth, Texas , two sisters, Ida Leger and Hilda Breaux; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Leger was preceded in death by his parents, Cleveland and Euphlie Leger, Sr., and one brother, Richard, Leger, Sr.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.
