Thomas Hernandez, Ph.D, M.D.
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at a Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Thomas Hernandez, Ph.D., M.D., 88, of Duson, who died at 8:45 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002, at his residence.
The Rev. Floyd J. Calais was the celebrant of the funeral Mass and conducted the services.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeanne Barrios and her husband, Thomas, of Springfield, and Donna Bishop, D.V.M., and her husband, Henry, of Shreveport; two sons, Cary Hernandez, M.D., and his wife, Rita, of Lafayette, and James Hernandez and his wife, Sandy, of Winchester, Va.; nine grandchildren, Matthew Barrios, Joni Lei Barrios, Ruth Anne and Hannah Kaye Bishop, Jennifer, Saul and Nicholas Hernandez, and Dori and Adam Hernandez; two sisters, Lily Peterson, of Duson and Murley LeBlanc , of Rayne; and two brothers, Teme Hernandez, Ph.D., of Baton Rouge, and Turney Hernandez, of Wilmington, Del.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Shaw Hernandez; his parents, Saul Hernandez and Bertha Lagneaux Hernandez; and two brothers, Theo Hernandez and Travis Hernandez, Ph.D.
A native of Lafayette and a longtime resident of New Orleans, Dr. Hernandez had been a resident of Lafayette for 15 years.
Dr. Hernandez received his education at LSU, Baton Rouge; the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa; and LSU Medical Center in New Orleans, receiving bachelor of arts and master of science degrees and doctorate degrees in zoology and medicine. He served as professor of biochemistry at LSU Medical Center in New Orleans for 10 years and then was promoted to professor and head of the department of pharmacology, a position he held for more than 20 years.
After retiring from Louisiana State University Medical Center, he was appointed as adjunct professor at USL College of Nursing, a position he held from 1986 to 2000.
As teacher and scientist, Dr. Hernandez published either as author or co-author more than 100 journal publications, as well as a number of books.
He was an active member of scientific organizations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Physiological Society, the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine, the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics and Sigma Xi.
Dr. Hernandez served two terms in the armed forces, one term during World War II and a second term during the Korean War as a senior assistant surgeon in the U.S. Public Health Service.
He was a member of Les Amis de Codifil.
Memorial contributions in Dr. Hernandez’s name may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Su ite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503-3240; or to the Nursing Pharmacology Endowed Scholarship at UL Lafayette (UL Foundation Inc. Attn.: Nursing Pharmacology Endowed Scholarship, RO. Box 44290, Lafayette, LA 70504-4290).
Arrangements were entrusted to Martin & Castille Funeral Home Inc., Lafayette.

Mallory James Alleman
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2002, at St. Joseph Church for Mallory James Alleman, 53, who died at his residence in Rayne Monday, June 3, 2002.
A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. in church prior to the services.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Mausoleum.
He is survived by his mother, Beatrice Alleman, Rayne; a son, Mallory Fern, Lafayette; a daughter, Christana Alleman, Denham Springs and a brother, Marroll Alleman, Rayne.
He was preceded in death by his father, Emory Alleman, a brother, Darryl Alleman and nephew, Lance Alleman.
Gossen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Eddye L. Yokum

Funeral services for Eddye Leatrice Gordon Yokum, 66, who died on Monday, June 17, 2002, at her residence here were held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2002, at Starlight Baptist Church here.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Mac Craton.
Burial was in Richwood Memorial Gardens in Monroe.
Mama Yokum, as she was affectionately known, was a teacher with the Acadia Parish School System, teaching eight years at Armstrong Middle School and 30 years at Rayne High School.
Mrs. Yokum is survived by her husband, the Rev. Ronald Yokum and their daughter, LaRonda Yokum, both of Rayne.
Kinchen Funeral Home, Inc., was in charge of funeral arrangements.

J. Stamm Guidry

A native of Rayne, La. and a resident of Fairhope, Ala. for the past seven years, J. Stamm Guidry died in Providence Hospital in Mobile, Ala., on Tuesday, June 18, 2002, the date of his 79th birthday, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Sunday, June 2, 2002.
Mr. Guidry was a retired businessman and a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
He was a veteran having served his country during World War II in the Uited States Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Montez “Tez” Tassin Guidry of Fairhope; two daughters, Mrs. Rebecca (Billy) Guidry Adams of Slidell, La., and Mrs. Cyndie (Dan) Guidry Wilkins of Daphne, Ala.; one brother, Warren L. Guidry of Rayne; four grandchildren, Marty Adams, Clay Adams, Catherine Wilkins and Matt Wilkins; a nephew, David W. Guidry of Rayne; and a niece Debora Bernard of Conyers, Ga.
He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Laurent J. Guidry of Rayne. His paternal grandparents were Mr. and Mrs. Adonis Guidry and maternal grandparents were Mr. and Mrs. John F. Stamm of Rayne.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 29, 2002, at 2 p.m. from St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Lawrence Catholic Church Building Fund, 370 S. Section St., Fairhope, Ala. 36532 or the American Heart Association, 900 western America Circle, Suite 209, Mobile, Ala. 36609.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Magnolia Funeral Home of Mobile, Ala.

Chester Boudreaux

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2002, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Mr. Chester Boudreaux, 56, who died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Entombment was in St. Joseph Mausoleum #2.
The Rev. Bill Ruskoski, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, was the celebrant of the funeral Mass.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Boudreaux, of Rayne; four daughters, Tracie Talbot and husband Eric, of Baton Rouge, Chellie Boudreaux, of Grand Lake, Angie Fogleman and husband Ryan, of Baton Rouge, and Mendie Cramer and husband Al, Roberts Cove; three grandchildren, Elizabeth and Sarah Talbot, of Baton Rouge, and Catherine Cramer, Roberts Cove; five sisters, Thelma Lanclos, of Leonville, Dorothy Istre, of Rayne, Mary Foreman, of Rayne, Gloria DeRoussell, Lake Charles, Florina Hollier, of Leonville; three brothers, Gilford Boudreaux, Burleson, Texas ., Allen Boudreaux, of Rayne, Philip Boudreaux Jr., of Fort Worth, Texas .
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shelly Ann Boudreaux; parents, Philip Boudreaux Sr. and Isaure Simon Boudreaux; and one brother, Chester Emark Boudreaux.
Mr. Boudreaux was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Community. In 1997 he was the International Rice Festival Farmer of the year, Acadia Parish Farm Bureau member and President (1999-2001) and past secretary and treasurer and safety chairman, member of Louisiana and Acadia Parish Rice Growers Associations, Rice and Soybean advisory boards member, member of Louisiana Seed Growers, FSA committeeman, board member of Rayne Rice Drier, and U.S. Tennis Association.
A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. Thursday in Gossen Funeral Home.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Patricia Marcotte

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Mrs. Patricia Vanderhyde Marcotte, 70, who died Tuesday , June 17, 2002, at 2:10 p.m. in Medical Center of Southwest Louisiana in Lafayette.
Entombment was in St. Joseph #2 Mausoleum.
The Rev. Bill Ruskoski, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, was the celebrant of the funeral Mass.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years Simeon W. Marcotte, of Rayne; three sons, Steven Marcotte and wife Jennifer, Danielsville, Ga., Thomas Marcotte and wife Nancy, of Lafayette, George Marcotte and wife Paula, of Lafayette; ten grandchildren; two brothers, Larry Vanderhyde, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Donald F. Vanderhyde, of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her son, John Jeffrey Marcotte; and parents, Frank and Rosella Vallely Vanderhyde.
Mrs. Marcotte was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Community.

Mrs. Yokum dies Monday

Funeral services are incomplete and pending at Carney Funeral Home, 602 N. Pierce St., Lafayette, for Mrs. Eddye Yokum, the wife of Rev. Ronald Yokum, pastor of Starlight Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Yokum, a longtime teacher here, Passed away at her home Monday morning.

Mildred Theresa Fontenot

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Mildred Theresa Fontenot, 70, who died Sunday, June 9, 2002, at the Rayne Guest Home.
Survivors include two sisters, Margie F. Breaux and Lillian F. Borne, both of Rayne; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hypolite and Clevenia Benoit Fontenot; and one sister Emela F. Boudreaux.
She was a member of the St. Joseph Choir, Ladies Altar Society, Lay Carmelites, Catholic Daughters, ABWA, Good Samaritans, and she was the Golden Age Queen for 2000 - 2001.
Pallbearers were Carroll Credeur, Jai Credeur, Greg Boudreaux, Duane LeBlanc , Robert Borne, and Scott LeBlanc .
Burial was in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Robert Gautreaux

CROWLEY –– Funeral services were held Friday, June 7, 2002, at 3 p.m. in St. Michael Catholic Church here, with Father Louie Richard officiating, for Robert Gautreaux, 64, of Crowley, who died at 7:05 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2002, in Crowley’s American Legion Hospital.
Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
He is survived by his wife, Armor Gautreaux, Crowley; two daughters, Dena Gautreaux and Jelania Breaux, both of Crowley; two brothers, Donald Gautreaux, Crowley, and Russell Gautreaux, New Orleans; three siters, Marjorie McCormick and Lois Broughan, both of Crowley, and Darlene Gautreaux, Houston, Texas ; and four grandchildren, Brandy, Christian and Nicholas Alleman, and Robert Jordan Benoit.
Mr. Gautreaux was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Amy Gautreaux.
Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Robert Taylor
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Elizabeth Memorial Baptist church in Branch, for Robert Taylor , 78, who died at his residence on June 10, 2002.
Survivors include one son, Robert Lee Taylor of Branch; three daughters, Charlotte Miller, and Darlene Bergeron both of Church Point, Lorea Joy Williams of Rayne; one brother, Ernest Taylor of Washington State; three sisters, Viola Hayes, and Bea Richard, both of Branch, and Rena Jones of Vidor Texas ; 10 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Taylor ; his parents, Ernest and Irene Richard Taylor ; one son, Donald Taylor ; one brother, Nolan Taylor ; and one sister, Aline Prather.
Burial was in the Elizabeth Memorial Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home.
