Averse Denais
JUDICE –Funeral services were held at 12 noon on Saturday, June 19, 2004, in St. Basile Church in Judice, with Father Henry Broussard officiating, for Averse Denais, 73, of the Judice Community, who died at 11:33 p.m. Thursday, June 17, 2004, in his home.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday, June 18.
Burial was in the St. Basile Cemetery in Judice.
He is survived by his wife, Verna Denais, Judice; three sons, Danny J. Denais, Broussard, Chris and Debbie Denais, Judice, and Robert and Vicki Denais, Mire; three daughters, Charlotte and Nelson Quebodueax, Carcencro, Noma and Ethen (Poochie) Dupuis, Judice and Dona and Bradley Romero, Judice; two stepsons, Donald Wayne Hebert, Sorrento, and David Hebert, Lafayette; two brothers, Alvin and Dale Denias, both of Judice; two sisters, Verna Pellerin, and Genevieve Domingue, both of Judice; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Valerie Andrus sang the following songs Old Rugged Cross, Our Father, How Great Thou Art and Amazing Grace.
Pallbearers were Chris Denais, Dale Denais, Danny Denais, Wayne Hebert, Robert Denais and Harry Domingue.
Honorary pallbearers were Bradley Romero, Ethen (Poochie)Dupuis, and Nelson Quebodeaux.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Editha Patin Breaux
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2004, in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley, with Father Rusty Richard officiating, for Editha Patin Breaux, 84, of Crowley, who died at 6:45 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2004, in Extended Care of Southwest Louisiana in Lake Charles.
A rosary was recited at 6 p.m. Sunday.
Burial was in the St. Theresa Cemetery in Duson.
She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Laura and James Stratton, Lake Charles, Sarah and Glenn Williams, Uintah, Utah, and Mary Dell and Donald Simon, Lake Charles; three sons, Russell Breaux, Crowley, Milton and Katia Breaux, Cecilia, and Michael and Gretchen Breaux, Houma; two sisters, Ella Mae Doucet, Duson, and Edith Duhon, Scott; two brothers, John Patin and Leo Patin, both of Rayne; 20 grandchildren; 26 grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Ms. Breaux was preceded in death by her husband,Ulysse Breaux; two grandsons, Charles and Russell Breaux II; her parnets, Olide and Marie Alleman Patin; and siblings.
Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Howard A. “Boochie” Duncan
Funeral services for Howard A. “Boochie” Duncan were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2004, in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Roger Brown officiating. Burial was held in the Maxie Cemetery in Maxie.
Mr. Duncan, 76, died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Southwind Nursing Center.
Visitation was observed Monday from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
Mr. Duncan was a native of Crowley. He was the owner of Duncan Construction Company for 51 years.
Receiving his general contractor license in 1963, Mr. Duncan built homes, banks, offices, shopping centers, schools, nursing homes and various other structures in the Crowley and Acadia Parish area.
Mr. Duncan served two years in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Crowley and a active member of American Legion Post 15 where he had held the offices of adjutant, vice-commander and commander. He served over 40 years as a member of the Board of Directors of American Legion Hospital and his foresight was instrumental in the planning of the new hospital at its present site in 1987. He also constructed the original hospital and the later third floor addition. He had also served as vice president of the board.
Additionally, Mr. Duncan was on the Board of Directors and the executive committee of the Crowley Building and Loan.
He served eight years on the Crowley City Council, 22 years on the Acadia Parish Police Jury with four of those years as the president. Mr. Duncan also served three years in the Louisiana State Senate.
As State Senator in 1966, Mr. Duncan along with Rep. Allen Gremillion, co-authored a bill which provided state funds to construct the Southwest Louisiana Developmental Center, a residential school near Iota for mentally retarded children.
While serving on the Police Jury, Duncan obtained state funds to construct the Acadia Parish Multi-Purpose Building. He was also instrumental in obtaining the land which was leased from the Acadia Parish School Board to construct the facility.
In 1996 he was named to the State Licensing Board for Contractors by Governor Mike Foster.
A longtime member of the Crowley Town Club, Mr. Duncan served as King Cimmer XXIII for the Mardi Gras Ball in 1978.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, the former Suzanne Zaunbrecher of Crowley; one son and his wife, Shea and Kathy Duncan of Crowley; one daughter and her husband, Mona and Johnny Venable of Crowley; one grandson, Bryant James Venable; two granddaughters, Kathryn Shea and Sybil Lorraine Duncan, all of Crowley; and one brother, Robert C. Duncan of Houston, Tx.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert C. Duncan and Mabel Raspberry Duncan Stakes of Crowley and two brothers, Colonel George Carwin Duncan of Pineville and Vernon (Tat) Duncan of Crowley.
Pallbearers were John W. “Chief” Andrus, John Breaux, Byron Core, John Wales, Michael Stefanski and Brett Stefanski.
Honorary pallbearers were Arthur LeBlanc , Dr. Ernest Petitjean, Dr. T.L. McNeely, L.J. Dailey and Jan Alleman, all members of the Crowley Building and Loan Board of Directors along with James Zaunbrecher, Leonard “Doc” Zaunbrecher, Charlie Beard, Galbert Ducrest, Robert Kahn, Gilles Piron and Ravien Istre.
Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Carrie Marie Pellerin Pedigo
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 2004, in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Charland Jordan officiating, for Carrie Marie Pellerin Pedigo, 77, of Rayne, who died at 5:40 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2004, in the Rayne Guest Home.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery No. 2 in Rayne.
Visitation will be observed Thursday at 10 a.m. until time of services.
She is survived by one daughter, Sherry Frank, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two sons, Calvin Pedigo, Semiaregnary, Miss., and Waddell Pedigo, Bellingham, Wash.; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and caregiver and personal friend, Clarland Jordan, Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W.C. Pedigo; parents, Mr. Leonce and Mrs. Alica Pellerin; and one brother, Curtis Pellerin.
She was a long life resident of Rayne. She belonged to Acadiana Christian Fellowship Church, where she was a member in good standing and supported the church in prayer and fellowship. She was a member of the church for 20 years and served in various capacities. She will be greatly missed by the church membership.

Amanda Matte
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2004, in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Church Point, with Msgr. Fred Swenson officiating, for Amanda Matte, 18, of Prairie Rhonde, who died Monday, June 21, 2004 in an accident in Lafayette.
A rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel.
Burial was in the new church cemetery on Hwy. 35 in ChurchPoint.
She is survived by her parents, James Wayne and Kathleen Matte, Prairie Rhonde; one brother, James Wayne Matte II, Prairie Rhonde; two sisters, Dayna Dupre, Prairie Rhonde, and Athena Matte, Lafayette; paternal grandmother, Beulah Matte, Church Point; maternal grandmother, Stella Carrier, Church Point; and a nephew, Hunter James Dupre, Prairie Rhonde.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Leander Carrier; great-grandparents, Eurben and Amere Bellard; grandfather, Vorice Anthony Matte; great-grandparents, Bertha Higginbotham Lejeune and Joseph Lejeune; great-grandparents, Lorice and Elmer Matte; and an aunt, Georgia Stelly.
Amanda graduated from Northwest High School in 2003. She was in her second year at the University of Louisiana -Lafayette, majoring in elementary education. She was on the Dean’s List and a Vita Volunteer in the St. Landry Community.
She was the youngest of four children.
Her passion was working with young children and this was the reason and her desire to teach school.

Sidney Servat
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004. at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Sidney G. Servat, Sr., 82, who died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at 5:45 a.m. at his residence.
Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery #2 Mausoleum.
Survivors include one son, Sidney Servat, Jr. and his wife Becky, of Rayne; three daughters, Michelle Johns and her husband Ronnie, of Sulphur, Yvette Lavergne and her husband Richard, of Lafayette, Simonne Servat, of Rayne; two sisters, Dr. Myrtle Servat, of Rayne, and Willie Etta Servat, of Rayne; and four grandchildren.
Mr. Servat was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Bercier Servat; his parents, Ovide and Agnes Migues Servat, one brother, Robert Flory.
Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.
The family requested that the visiting hours be observed from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:00 a.m. until service time Thursday.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Howard Joseph Seaux, Sr.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2004, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Howard Joseph Seaux, Sr., 71, who died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at 4:45 a.m. in Crowley American Legion Hospital.
interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery #2.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Susie Stutes Seaux, of Rayne; two daughters, Karen Seaux, of Rayne, and Peggy Regan and her husband John, of Lafayette; three sisters, Mary Begnaud, Francis Veronie, and Isabel Chaney; eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Ellen Seaux; one son, Howard Joseph Seaux, Jr.; one grandson, Timothy Michael Istre; parents, Gabriel and Doris Lavergne Seaux; four brothers, Louis Seaux, Regis Seaux, Dudley Seaux, Harry Seaux; and three sisters, Ada Daigle, Anna Joyce Courville, and Mary Joyce Burleigh.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Raymond J. Bertrand
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m.Tuesday, June 8, 2004, in the funeral home chapel, with Brother Ernst Toepfer officiating, for Raymond J. Bertrand, 62 of Crowley,who died Monday, June 7, 2004, at 7 a.m. in his residence.
Burial was in Acadian Resthaven Cemetery in Crowley.
He is survived by his mother, Viola Bertrand, Crowley; two brothers and their spouses, Wilber and Beulah Bertrand, Crowley, and Lenwood Paul and Susie Bertrand, Pinveille; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda Mae and Lyndrus Primeaux, Crowley; one brother-in-law, John G. Hanks, Crowley; a special companion, Carolyn Rambo, Crowley; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bertrand was preceded in death by his father, Austin Bertrand. He was loved by whoever came into contact with him, especially his deaf friends of the area. He graduated from Louisiana School for the Deaf in Baton Rouge.
