Coley Bellamy

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 25, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. in Our Mother of Mercy Shrine here, with Father Richard Wagner, S.S.J., officiating and assisted by the Rev. Mr. Nolton Senegal, for Mr. Coley Bellamy, 73, of Rayne.
Mr. Bellamy died at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2002, in Lafayette General Hospital.
Burial was in Our Mother of Mercy Cemetery here.
Coley Martin Bellamy, Jr., graduated form Most Pur Heart of Mary High School in Mobile, Ala. He attended Xavier University in New Orleans until he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict.
After an honorable discharge, he received a bachelor of science degree from Southern University, a master’s degree in Vandercook College of Music in Chicago, Ill., and pursued further studies at several other universities.
Mr. Bellamy worked as a band director of several schools, including Herod High School, Abbeville; Armstrong High School, Rayne; Church Point Junior and High School, Church Point, as well as Holy Rosary Institute in Lafayette.
He served as assistant principal of Church Point High School and Principal of Church Point Junior High School and Church Point High School, and Holy Rosary Institute between the years of 1973 to 1993.
An avid tennis player, Mr. Bellamy had, at one point, ranked number seven in state tennis competition.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Bellamy, Rayne; one son, Paul René Bellamy, Rayne; one granddaughter, Alysia Y. Bellamy; six sisters-in-laws, Hilda T. Bellamy, San Antonio, Texas , Brenda B. Francis, Rayne, Paula A. (Anthony) Pitre, Jennings, Christine D. (Lollo, Jr.) Francis and Lorene Z. St. Mary, both of Lake Charles, and Patricia J. Norris, Crowley; one brother-in-law, Delmar J. Allen, Duson; four nieces and six nephews; and a host of grand nieces and grand nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Coley Bellamy, Sr., and Hattie Conner Bellamy; one brother, Herbert Bellamy; a sister-in-law, Shirley Shallow; and one niece, Mary Susan B. Santos.
Mr. Bellamy served over 24 years as an alderman on the Rayne City Council.
He also was an ordained Catholic deacon, serving the congregation of Our Mother of Mercy Shrine. He also served at Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Center on the campus of the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. The 25th anniversary of his ordination was observed this year.
Mr. and Mrs. Bellany were happily married for 46 years.
The family acknowledges the untiring care and support of the staff of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, the staff of Meadowbrook Rehabilitation Hospital, and the staff of Lafayette General Hospital, all of Lafayette, Dr. Ernest W. Kinchen, Dr. Carolyn Smith, and all of the healthcare personnel who assisted us during Coley’s lengthy illness.
Active pallbearers were Joseph Bellamy, Andrew Bellamy, Delmar J. Allen, Robert Bellamy, Michael Stevens, Felton Antoine, and John T. Julian.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Ernest W. Kinchen, Diaconate Class of 1977, American Legion, Henderson Post #569, Knights of Peter Claver Council #75, A&O 21st Century Club, Johnny Bellamy, Dr. Carolyn Smith, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Eta Gamma Lambda Chapter, Fourth Degree Knights of Peter Claver, W.E.T. Tennis Club and Ron Mills.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of arrangements.

Shirley “Mrs. Leray” Menard

Funeral services for Mrs. Leray (Shirley) Menard, 65, were held Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at a 2 p.m. Mass in Evangeline line Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro.
interment was in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro.
A native of Rayne and a resident of Carencro, Mrs. Menard Passed away at 12:30 p.m., May 26, 2002, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Ms. Menard will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, confidant and friend who will be missed by all. Mrs. Menard was an avid fan of Cajun music. She attended her husband’s performances at local business establishments, fund-raisers, benefits and retirement homes where she enjoyed listening, and until recently, dancing to his music.
Survivors include her spouse of 49 years, Leray G. Menard of Carencro; one son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Debbie Menard of Lafayette; two daughters and one son-in-law, Dora and Roy Rogers and Linda Menard Mille, all of Carencro; seven grandchildren, Dayle Menard, Dayna Menard, Bobby Miller, Robby Miller, Adam Miller, Amy Lynn Miller and Bryant Rogers; two great-grandchildren, Dylan Lormand and Desiree Lormand; one step-granddaughter, Laurie Rogers; four brothers, Alvin LeJeune of Gueydan, Dominic “Ken” Menard and his wife, Earline, Kermit Menard and his wife, Lindola and Henry “Tex” Menard and his wife, Bertha, all of Rayne; two sisters, Mary Dugas of Broussard and Thelma C Courvilee of Rayne and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jules Menard and Victoria Marjolet Menard; one brother, Bob Menard; one sister, Theresa Richard and one step-granddaughter, Traci Lejeune.
A rosary was recited Monday evening by Leroy Menard.
A spiritual reading was recited by Lyman Martin.
Musical selections were provided by Patrick Menard. The songs were “Ave Maria”, “Only In God”, “Amazing Grace” I Will Never Forget You” and “Song of Farewell.”

Pallbearers were her son, grandsons, son-in-law, and nephew, Daniel Menard, Bobby Miller, Robby Miller, Adam Miller, Roy Rogers and David Menard. Honorary Pallbearers were Dayle Menard, Dayna Menard, Amy Miller, Bryant Rogers, Keith Menard, Leroy Menard, Alvin LeJeune, Nathan Menard, Ken Menard. Clayton Menard, Kermit Menard, Arthur Menard, and Henry Tex Menard.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in the name of Shirley Menard may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Ste. 200, Lafayette, La. 70503-3240.
Melancon Funeral Home of Carencro was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Charline Marie Guidry

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002, in St. Joseph Catholic Church here, with Father Thomas Vu officiating, for Charline Marie Guidry, 55, of Duson, who died Monday, May 27, 2002, in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Visitation will be observed from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until time of services on Thursday.
Burial will be in Arceneaux Cemetery in Rayne.

Bertha Simon Boudreaux
Funeral services were held Monday, June 2, 2003, at 10 a.m. in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, for Bertha Simon Boudreaux, 76, who died Friday, May 30,2003, at her residence in Rayne.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Don and Sheila Boudreaux, of Rayne, and Todd and Janie Boudreaux, of Luling La.; two daughters and their husbands, Carla and Joe Lormand, of Rayne, and Sheila and John L. Richard, of Rayne; 13 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Boudreaux was also survived by two sisters, Joyce Smith, of Rayne, and Anna Mae Theunissen, of Welsh; one brother, Clovis Simon, of Orange, Texas .
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alexson and Agnes Breaux Simon,; one son, Anthony Scott Boudreaux; one brother, John Simon; and two grandchildren.
A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday.
Pallbearers were Jeremiah Boudreaux, Joshua Boudreaux, Jonathan King, Jeremy Faucheaux, Dustin Boudreaux and Roger Fruge, Jr., Honorary pallbearers were Greg Lormond and Scott Lormond.
Burial was in the St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Timothy (Timmy) Miller
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2003, in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Melvin Finley officiating, for Timothy (Timmy) Miller, 43, of Broussard, who died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at 5:29 p.m. in his home.
Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery No. 2 in Rayne.
He is survived by one son, Eric Wayne Miller, Broussard; one stepdaughter, Christy Schexnayder, Broussard; his father, Rodney Miller, Broussard; three brothers and their wives, Ronnie Miller and Tiny Melancon, Broussard, Ricky and Debbie Miller, Rayne, and Mike and Sandra Miller, Lafayette; three sisters and their husbands, Vicky and Evril Menard, Mire, and Pam and Beaver Leger, and Susan Miller, all of Rayne; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Timmy had a love of music from small unitl time of death. His mentor in this field ws T.K. Hulin. He started with this father and continued on playing with many other bands around the area. The last band he played with before becoming ill was Turning Point.
He was a native of Rayne and a resident of Broussard.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rose Morgan MIller.
Pallbearers were Heath Wingate, Mikey Wingate, Jacob Menard, Lucas Miller, Ryan Miller, and Nick Miller.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Laila Paige Stutes
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2003, in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley, with Father Donald Pousson officiating, for Laila Paige Stutes, five months, of Morse, who died at 4:36 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2003, in Oschner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans.
Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery in Rayne.
She si survived by her parents, Jeremy Stutes and Katie Hebert, Morse; paternal grandparents, Gail Thibodeaux of Estherwood and Patrick Stutes, Rayne; maternal grandparents, Stephanie (Sis) Hebert and John Hebert, Morse; paternal great-grandmother, Bernice Stutes, Rayne; patneral great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Freddie Stelly, Sr., Duson; and maternal great-grandparents, Allen and Jeanette Stutes, Crowley.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandfather, Louis Stutes; and great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John J. Hebert.
Pallbearers were Wesley Hebert, Corey Stutes, Eric Stutes and Jude Rice.
Marcus Roy was an honorary pallbearer.
Duhon Funeral Home of Crowely was in charge of funeral arrangement.

Dorthy Miller Lavergne
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2003, in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel here, with Elder Ron Smith officiating, for Dorothy Miller Lavergne, 54, of Church Point, who died at 8:20 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2003, in her Church Point home.
Burial was in Arceneaux Cemetery in Rayne.
She is survived by her husband, Leroy Lavergne, Church Point; two daughters and their husbands, Laura and Michael Gilchrist of Rayne and Michelle and Calvin Millet of Scott; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Gilchrist; her mother, Verdie (Toot Toot) MIller, Rayne; two sisters, Linda Miller, Duson, and Angela Dean, Port Neches, Texas ; three brothers, Kermit Miller, Church Point, Johnny Miller, Georgia, and Travis Miller, Duson.
Pallbearers were Michael Gilchrist, Calvin Millet, Paul Boudoin, Richard Barbier, Clarence Lavergne, and Anthony Gary, Jr.
She was preceded in death by her father, Erise Miller; two sisters, Martha Perrodin and Mary Usie; and a husband, Bobby Gresham.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Ethel Martin
SULPHUR –– Funeral services were held on Friday, May 23, 2003, at 10 a.m. in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley, with Father Joseph Greenwell officiating, for Ethel Martin, 94, of Sulphur, who died at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003, in the West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital in Sulphur.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday in the chapel.
Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
She is survived by two brothers, William (Ted) Reagan, Sulphur, and Lee Garland Reagan, Stuttgart, Ark.; one sister, Zula Mae Hannah, Houston, Texas ; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Alfred Martin; parents, Edward and Emma Myers Reagan; three brothers, Marvel Glenn, Curley and Richard Reagan; and two sisters, Estelle Broussard and Vernice Holmes.
She was a lifelong residents of the Crowley area and a resident of Sulphur. She was very active in her church parishes.
Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley was in charge of funeral arrangements.
