Houston ‘Black’ Doucet
BRANCH –– Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2003, at St. Edmund Catholic Church in Branch, with Father Francis Bourgeois officiating, for Houston “Black” Doucet,86, who died at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 2003, at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
A rosary was prayed Friday at 7 p.m.
interment was in the St. Edmund Cemetery in Branch.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Matte Doucet, of Branch; three daughters, Cheryl Thibodeaux and her husband, Francis, of Spring, Texas , Wanda Mudge and husband, Alvin, of Branch, and Phyllis Schultz, and husband, Brian, of Branch; four sisters, Sybil Thibodeaux, Branch, Annie Hebert, Branch, Lilly Meche of Branch, and Azalia Smith of Lake Charles; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He belonged to the American Legion Post 225 of Church Point, and Dairymen, Inc., and was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II.
Arrangements were entrusted to Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point.

William Beard
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 26, 2003, in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Crowley, with Father Joseph Greenwell officiating, for William Beard, 93, of Crowley, who died Saturday, May 24, 2003, at 3:53 a.m. at his Crowley home.
A rosary was prayed Sunday in the chapel.
Burial was in LeBlanc Cemetery in Midland.
He is survived by two sons and their spouses, Julius and Janette Beard and Russell and Mary Beard, all of Crowley; six grandchildren, Patrick Beard, Georgia, Terry and Lloyd Beard, Crowley, Melanie and Jason Richard, Slidell, Chad and Brigette Beard, Egan, and Edith Marie Beard, Kaplan; three great-grandchildren, Kristie and Dylon Jagneaux; both of Slidell, and Whitney Beard of Crowley; one sister, Mrs. Paul (Toot) Leger, Crowley; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Melanie Beard and his parents, Norma Guidry and Israel Beard.
Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Hester Foreman Guidry
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, May, 26, 2003, at Gossen Funeral Home Chapel for Hester Foreman Guidry, 97, who died Saturday, May 24, 2003 at Crowley American Legion Hospital.
interment was in Indian Bayou Methodist Cemetery.
The Rev. Ross Genger, of Centenary United Methodist Church in Rayne conducted the services.
Survivors include twenty-four nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Elie Hoffpauir; second husband, Grudy Guidry; parents, Erasco Foreman and Elsi Lee Foreman Foreman; six sisters; six brothers.
Mrs. Guidry was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Rayne.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Inza Curtis Carwile
LAKE CHARLES –– Inza Elizabeth “Beth” Curtis Carwile, 66, died Thursday, May 22, 2003, in her residence after a lengthy illness.
A native of Rayne and a 1955 graduate of Rayne High School, she lived in Lake Charles for 43 years. She was a graduate of LSU and taught home economics at LaGrange High School in the early 1960s. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was an active committee member and former president of the United Methodist Women. She was a group leader for the Bible Study Fellowship International and was past president of PEO.
She was a member of the Bridge Club of Southwest Louisiana , and in 2000 she was awarded the Life Master designation by the American Contract Bridge League. She was a supporter of local arts and was a former Lake Charles Symphony board member. she was a member of the Junior League and former past president of both the local Alpha Delta Pi Alumnae Chapter and the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association Auxiliary.
Beth was a woman of great faith and compassion who enjoyed the fellowship of others. Her family and friends enjoyed her quick wit, which she displayed even while fighting a serious illness. Her life centered around her church, Bible study, service groups, bridge, her friends and her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Carwile, Sr.; her brother Dr. C. Thomas Curtis; and her parents, Inza Maines Gillentine and Carl Dwight Curtis.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Brower and husband, Dan Brower of Huntersvillek, N.C., and Carol Dodson and husband John Dodson of Brevard, N.C.; one son, C. Wade Carwile, Jr. and fianee Jennifer Petru of Baton Rouge; sister-in-law, Barbara Curtis of Rayne; brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Ruth Carwile of Baton Rouge; two granddaughters, Dana Elizabeth and Allison McKensie Brower of Huntersville; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Her family wishes to thank her caregivers, medical team and the many people who supported them and her over the past year.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2003, in First United Methodist Church of Lake Charles. The Revs. Doug deGraffenried and Jill Oglesby Evans officiated.
Burial was in the Highland Memory Gardens under the direction of Johnson funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to First United Methodist Church, 812 Kirkman St., Lake Charles, La. 70601; PEO philantropies, c/o Carolyn Eakin, 2710 Bocage, Lake Charles, La. 70605; or the Calcasieu Community Clinic, P.O. Box 91775, Lake Charles, La. 70609.

Lou (Miller) Guidry
CHURCH POINT –– Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2003, in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Church Point, with Msgr. Fred Swenson officiating, for Lou Miller Guidry, 87, of Church Point, who died at 9:25 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2003, at her home.
A rosary was prayed Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Burial was in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum on Highway 35.
She is survived by four sons, Mark Guidry, Congress, Ariz., Ryan Guidry, Breaux Bridge, Jimmy Guidry, Church Point, and Fred Guidry, Sunset; two daughters, Pal Vanacor and Phyllis Guidry, both of Church Point; one brother, Richard Verrett, Brusly; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Lou worked at the Church Point Sanitarium Hospital as a nurse for five years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She always helped whoever needed her help. One of her pleasures was baking cookies and having the children come over and sit around her snack bar and eat whatever she mustard up.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Burton Guidry; her parents, Octavia Richard and Albert Miller; and one brother, Wilbert Miller.
Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Margaret L. Martinez
Funeral services will be held at 8 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2003, at Gossen Funeral Home Chapel for Margaret L. Martinez, 66, who died Monday, May 26, 2003, at Morris Lahasky Nursing Home in Erath.
The Rev. Bill Ruskoski, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church will conduct the services.
Survivors include two daughters, Tanya Chias-son, of Lafayette, Bonnie Smith, of Florida; and one son, Joseph S. Martinez, of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacinto Martinez, I; one son, Jacinto Martinez, II; parents, Thomas C. Ingram and Eunice Bell Hunter Ingram.
A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne, (337)334-3141.

Maria Gertrude Naebers
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2003, Mass of Christian Burial, at St. Leo Catholic Church for Maria Gertude Naebers, 96, who died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at Landmark Inc. in Crowley.
interment was in St. Leo Cemetery.
The Rev. Frances Bourgeois, pastor of St. Leo Catholic Church, conducted the services. Con-celebrants were Rev. Jody Simoneaux, and Rev. Thomas Habetz.
Survivors include her brother, John A. Heinen, Sr., of Rayne; and numerous nieces and newphews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry John Naebers; parents, William Michael Heinen and Barbara Hensgens Heinen; and eight siblings.
She was a member of St. Leo Altar Society, and a Charter Member to Court St. Leo Catholic Daughters.
A rosary was prayed at 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. Thursday.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.
Horace Andrus ‘Uncle Ambrose’ Thibodeaux

Horace Andrus Thibodeaux
Funeral services for Horace Andrus “Uncle Ambrose” Thibodeaux were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Indian Bayou United Methodist Church in Indian Bayou. Mr. Thibodeaux, 93, died on Friday, May 16, 2003 at 8:21a.m.
Rev. Ross Genger of Indian Bayou United Methodist Church and Rev. Bill Hudson of the First Baptist Church in Rayne, Louisiana officiated. interment was at Indian Bayou Methodist Church Cemetery in Indian Bayou.
Mr. Thibodeaux was a native of Indian Bayou and life-long resident of Acadiana. As a child, Mr. Thibodeaux attended the old Burke School in Ridge. He loved people. With his sense of humor and quick wit, he always kept friends and family laughing. Although he lived on the farm, his passion was being a musician.
Mr. Thibodeaux was a well known Cajun musician referred to as “Uncle Ambrose” —- the fiddling musician. Mr. Thibodeaux played with many of the Cajun bands in Acadiana. In 1937, he was a member of one of the first bands to broadcast from a radio station in Lafayette. In the 1930’s and 1940’s, he played the fiddle in popular local bands such as “Papa Cairo and His Boys” and with local musicians such as “Happy Fats.” He will always be remembered by his familiar “rooster crow.”
Mr. Thibodeaux is survived by two sons, Merton Thibodeaux of Rayne, and Alton Thibodeaux of Duson; and by four daughters, Carita Helo of Crowley, Irene Beebe of Arlington, Texas , Danielle Skinner of Orlando, Florida, and Linda Bewley of Lafayette. Mr. Thibodeaux is further survived by one sister, Agnes Roy Orgeron, of Lafayette; 33 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father, Delma Thibodeaux; his mother, Irene Foreman Thibodeaux; his wife, Amy “Mimi” Trahan Thibodeaux; his brother, Norris Eugene Thibodeaux; one son, Andrus James Thibodeaux; and two daughters, Doye Anne Whitewing and Mary Louise Heafner of Orlando, Florida.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Gerald John “Jerry” Guidry
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 17, 2003, at 10 a.m. in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, for Gerald John "Jerry" Guidry, 77, who died Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include one son, Robert Guidry of Rayne; one brother, Filton Guidry of Lafayette; and one sister, Enola Faul of Church Point; 8 grandchildren; 14 greatgrandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; and 3 step great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Meche Guidry; one daughter, Charline M. Guidry; three brothers, Leonce, Joseph Lloyd, and Francis, three sisters, Geraldine Pope, Alice Doucet, and Hilda Boudreaux.
A Rosary was recited Friday at 7 p.m.
Burial was in the Arceneaux Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Agnes B. LeBlanc
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at Gossen Funeral Home Chapel for Agnes B. LeBlanc , 87, who died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Crowley American Legion Hospital.
interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery #2.
The Rev. Bill Ruskoski, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, conducted the services.
Survivors include one daughter, Alice Faye Mauldin, of Baton Rouge; three sons, Louis Miller, Jr., of Memphis , Tenn., Roland Miller, of Greenwood, Mo., Roland LeBlanc , of Rayne; 17 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren.
A rosary was prayed at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2003.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.
