Shirley R. Dupuis
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 3, 2003, at 1 p.m. in the Gossen Funeral Home Chapel, for Shirley R. Dupuis, 65, who died Thursday, May 1, 2003, at the Crowley American Legion Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Wilson Dupuis of Rayne; three sons and their wives, Donald and Carolyn M. Dupuis of Jeanerette, John and Mary B. Dupuis of Rayne, and Dalton and Pam R. Dupuis of Rayne; two daughters and their husbands, Elaine and Ernest Saltzman, and Lorraine and Robert Pellissier all of Rayne; two brothers and their wives, Wilfred and Shirley Romero, and Jimmy and Bertha Romero all of Rayne; four sisters, Bernice Richard and Elizabeth Deville both of Rayne, Dorothy Leger, and Betty Granger both of Lake Charles; 13 grandchildrenl and 10 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Dupuis was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Marie Breaux Romero; one brother, Elis Romero; and one sister Winnie Prejean.
A Rosary was recited Friday at 7 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial was in the St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Ethel Comeaux
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2003, in Assumption Church in Mire, with Msgr. Russell Harrington officiating, for Ethel Comeaux, 88, of Rayne who died at 5 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2003, in the Rayne Guest Home.
A rosary was prayed at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel.
Burial was in the Assumption Cemetery in MIre.
She is survived by two sons, Gilford Comeaux, Crowley, and Gilbert P. Comeaux, Carencro; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nodel Comeaux; her parents, Celise Babineaux and Duplex Bourque; six brothers, Ovey , Ozzie, Cleveland, Claby, Lurcy and Jules Bourque; and one great- grandson, Aaron Comeaux.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Noemie V. Estilette
CHURCH POINT –– Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2003, in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, with Father Nicky Trahan officiating, for Ms. Noemie V. Estille, 91, of Church Point, who died at 8:45 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2003, in the Acadia-St. Landry Hospital.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Burial was in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Church Point.
She is survived by two sons, Ivy and Dot Estillette, Ville Platte, and Bobby and Bernadine Estilette, Scott; one daughter, Lou Ana and Raphael Vanicor, Church Point; one brother, Gervais Venable, Church Point; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Ms. Estilette was preceded in death by her husband, John Estilette; her parents, Ignace and Amythe Estilette; one daughter, Violet Mae Stanford; three brothers; and three sisters.
Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Lourence R. Richard
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2003, in St. Edward Church in Richard, with Father Dan Edwards officiating, for Lourence R. Richard, 69, of Richard, who died Monday, May 5, 2003, at 9:40 p.m. in Opelousas General Hospital.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel.
Visitation was until time of services.
Burial will be in the St. Edward Church Cemetery in Richard.
She is survived by her husband, Herman Richard, of Richard; one daughter, Marie Guillory of Richard; one son and his spouse, Edward and Pat Richard, of Richard; one brother, Isaac Richard, of Richard; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Olive LeJeune; one daughter, Henrietta Deshotel; and one grandson, Michael Richard.

Mary Louise Nelson
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 10, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Starlight Baptist Church for Mary Louise Nelson, 51, who died April 29, 2003, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
interment will be in the Rayne Protestant Cemetery.
Mrs. Nelson is survived by her husband, Edgar Lewis Nelson, Jr.; three sons, Jospeh J. Nelson, Edgar L. Nelson III, and Christopher J. Nelson; two daughters, Sandy Marie Nelson and Kathleen M. Nelson; one grandchild, Deondre’ C. Nelson, all of Rayne; two sisters, Delores Poullard of Carson, Calif., and Dorothy Hill of Iowa, La.; other relatives and friennds.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 10, 2003, at Starlight Baptist Church, beginning at 8 a.m. until time of services.
Syrie Funeral Home, Inc., of Lafayette is in charge of arrangements.

Garrett Lee Duhon
Graveside services were held at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at the St. Edward Church Cemetery in Richard for Garrett Lee Duhon, infant son of Sandra Richard Duhon and Carroll Duhon of Crowley, who died at the age of four days at 12 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2003 in Women and Children’s Hospital in Lafayette.
He is survived by two brothers, Lynn Duhon and Justin Duhon, both of Crowley; matneral grandmother, Elda Richard, Crowley; and paternal grandparents, William Duhon of Crowley and Dorothy Duhon of Mermentau.
Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley was in charge.

Davis Dewey Venable
Memorial services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, May, 30, 2004, at a Mass of Christian Burial at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Mire for Davis Dewey Venable, age 73, who died Thursday, May 27, 2004 at 4:10 p.m. at Amelia Manor Nursing Home.
Very Rev. Msgr. Russell J. Harrington, VE, pastor, officiated the services. interment was in the church cemetery.
Readings were done by Cindy LeBlanc . Musical selections were provided by Valerie Andrus. Selections will be La Grace du Ciel, A Closer Walk With Thee, Ji’rai la Voir Un Jour, Yahweh is my Shepherd. Pallbearer will be his grandson, Jordan M. Venable.
Mr. Venable was born January 14, 1931. He was a graduate of Rayne High School, attended SLI, and was a past member of the Acadia Parish School Board. He was a lifetime native of the Bosco/Vatican community and was retired from the construction industry.
He is survived by three sons, Greg and Allen Venable of Lafayette and Stewart Venable of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Christine Savage and Mona V. Leger of Bosco; Willie Venable, the mother of his children; one sister, Bonnie V. Lyons of Bosco; aunts, Eva V. Green of Vatican, and Adolise P. “Noon” Mire of Lafayette; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph E. and Estelle P. Venable; a son Andy; daughter, Deborah Venable; paternal grandparents, Louis and Elizabeth Richard Venable; maternal grandparents, Ophie and Estelle Comeaux Prejean.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed in the church from eleven o’clock to one o’clock on Sunday. Funeral services to immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Ste. 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.

Hattie Mae Jeffers Wyatt
Funeral services were held Tuesday June 1, 2004, at 1 p.m., at Elizabeth Memorial Baptist Church in Branch for Hattie Mae Jeffers Wyatt, 92 who died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at her residence in Branch.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Dr. H.P. and Sarah Wyatt of Georgetown Kentucky, Coy and Estelle Wyatt of Abbeville, and Wayne and Gloria Wyatt of Rayne; one daughter and her husband, Elaine and Buddy Gilbert of Branch; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Wyatt was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Wyatt; her parents, William E. and Lillie Brown Jeffers; five brothers, and one sister.
Burial was in the Elizabeth Memorial Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Liza Jo Stelly
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at a 1 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Liza Jo Stelly, age 98, who died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at 9:40 a.m. in the Lady of the Oaks Retirement Manor.
interment was in the Graceland Cemetery in Abbeville.
The Reverend Keith J. DeRouen, Rector, Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, was the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and conducted the funeral services. Pat Palmer, soloist, accompanied on the organ by Tom Niel, sang for the Funeral Mass, “Be Not Afraid”, “On Eagles’ Wings”, “Ave Maria”, “The Lord’s Prayer” and “Amazing Grace”.
A native of Crowley and a resident of Lafayette, Mrs. Stelly first began teaching in 1944. She taught four years at St. Michael’s School in Crowley and through the years taught thousands of children and adults both in Crowley and Lafayette where she moved in 1961. She founded Kiddy Korner Pre School and Learning Center, and wrote the book “Phonics-The Key to Reading and Spelling.”
Mrs. Stelly worked with seven foreign oil executives teaching them to spell, read and write English. She worked with a young blind student, teaching her phonics before entering the school for the Blind.
She took a brain damaged child into her home to live, teaching her until she was rehabilitated. Mrs. Stelly spoke to many religious groups, sharing her marital experiences, her teaching career and about the cancer she had at an earlier year nursing herself into remission.
Being a resident of Lady of the Oaks Retirement Manor, Mrs. Stelly volunteered her time to many stroke patients, teaching them to speak again. She was also instrumental in gathering clothes for the poor during her time at “The Oaks” She always lived by the philosophy, “How can I help someone today?”
Mrs. Stelly was the 1966 Louisiana Business Woman of the Year, going on to be named National Business Woman of the Year. She was honored in the fourth Annual Bishops Charity Ball in 1991. She was a member of the Lafayette Catholic Daughters, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy and the National Society of the Dames of the Court of Honor. She also helped to organize Lafayette’s Leur de Music Club. Mrs. Stelly was recently honored in Who’s Who of America and was interviewed by the Williams Center of Oral History at L.S.U. about her life in Louisiana and the work she did in education and phonics. Her book on phonics was donated to the Library of Congress during the Clinton Administration to help with President Clinton’s Illiteracy Program across the United States. When being interviewed by the Louisiana Program for Illiteracy, Mrs. Stelly found the young lady to be one of her past students.
Survivors include two children, Summa Lee Stelly and his wife, Pansy Block Stelly of Pensacola, Florida and Alice Jane Stelly Babineaux and her husband, Ben Babineaux of Lafayette; eight grandchildren, Kevin Babineaux, Troy Babineaux, Rochelle Babineaux, Bridget Babineaux Foret, John Stelly, Stephan Stelly, Marc Stelly and David Stelly; sixteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Stelly was preceded in death by her husband, Curley John Stelly, two children, Jo Ann Stelly and Curley John Stelly, Jr.; her mother, Linnie Caldwell Nussbaum and her father, Louis Nussbaum.
A rosary was prayed Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Martin & Castille Funeral Home. The Catholic Daughters will also recite a rosary Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m.
Pallbearers were John Stelly, Walt Stelly, Marc Stelly, David Stelly, Kevin Babineaux, Troy Babineaux, Dez Babineaux and Thomas Foret.
Honorary pallbearers were Summa Stelly, Bernard “Ben” Babineaux and Stephen Stelly.
The family of Mrs. Stelly wishes to thank all employees of Lady of the Oaks Retirement Manor for their loving care throughout the years and to Hospice of Acadiana. Special thanks to Rose, Novella, June and Angela for their loving concerns and care. Mrs. Stelly was always proud of her many friends of all ages, (too many to name but you know who you are). Her riches were her Lord and her beloved family and friends, each one special and remembered with pride in her final days. She leaves us with cherished memories of knowing and loving “Mama Jo”.
Arrangements were entrusted to Martin & Castille Funeral Home, Inc. of Lafayette.

Amy Richard
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2004, in the funeral home chapel, with Msgr. Fred Swenson officiating, for Amy Richard, 83, of Lafayette, who died at 7:05 p.m. Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel.
Burial was in the old church mausoleum in Church Point.
She is survived by her husband, Berchman Richard, Lafayette; one son and his wife, George B. and Venola Richard, Lafayette; one daughter, Ramona Richard, Lafayette; one brother, Eugene Daigle, Lawell; one sister, Ada Daigle, Eunice; one grandchild and his wife, James K. and Connie Richard, Lafayette; and three great-grandchildren, Christina Maria Richard, James K. Richard, Jr., and Christopher M.J. Richard.
Mrs. Richard was a native of Church Point and a resident of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.
Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point was in charge of funeral arrangements.
