Betty Jo Matthews
CHURCH POINT –– Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, in St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mowata, with Father George Hefner officiating, for Betty Jo Matthews, 33, of Church Point, who died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at 2:30 a.m. in Savoy Medical Center in Mamou.
Burial was in the St. Lawrence Church Cemetery in Mowata.
She is survived by one daughter, Sarah Jane Matthews, Church Point; her mother and stepfather, Betty Jean and Allen Citizen, Church Point; father, Gladu Matthews, Napoleonville; and one sister, Lena Mae Matthews, Church Point.
Ms. Matthews was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Ollie Falcon Hulin
A Mass of Christian Burial for Ollie Falcon Hulin was held at St. Joseph Catholic Church here on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at 10 a.m.
The Monday evening vistation included a rosary set at 7 p.m.
Burial was in the Garden Catacomb Memorial Mausoleum in Rayne.
Mrs. Hulin, a native of Rayne and 92-years-old, died at Lafayette General Medical Center Saturday evening, Nov. 2, 2002.
She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Dauighters and Altar Society in Sulphur, La., for the last eight years. Prior to that, she was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Daughters and the Altar Society in Rayne, where she also served as an eucharistic minister.
Mrs. Hulin worked at Merlin Kahn in Rayne over over 30 years, primarily in the drapery department.
Mrs. Hulin was preceded in death by her husband, Stanville Hulin; her parents, John and Rosa Falcon; her five sisters, Angeline Lavergne, Euchariste Stutes, Locadie Sonnier, Inez Mullenix, and Laurence Dartez; and her two brothers, Edwin Falcon and Edward Falcon.
She is survived by her brother-in-law, Paul Dartez; and by nieces and nephews and their families: Renola Dugas (deceased), Johnny Lavergne (deceased), Rose Simon, Irene Hargett, Oran Stutes, Wilma Sonnier, Myrline Wilsford, Jerry Sonnier, Marie Herbert, Mona Trahan, Randy Falcon, Jimmy Meaux, Martha Kile, Andy Mullenix, David Dartez, Carole Chaffe, Jane Webb, Robert Dartez (deceased), Joe Dartez, Mary Smith, Julie Broussard, Suzanne Todd, and Ellen Deters.
Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Eva Claire Bruner
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel for Eva Claire Bruner, 88, who died on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at her daughter’s home in Branch.
Mrs. Bruner taught school for more than 20 years in Austin and Houston, Texas . She retired and moved with her husband to their farm in Branch in 1973.
She is survived by a daughter, Sue Bruner Hicks, and son-in-law, Robert Hicks, of Branch; and a grandson, Robert R. Hicks, Jr., of Lafayette.
She was a member of Elizabeth Memorial Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years.
Mrs. Bruner was preceded in death by her mother, Susie B. Bruner; two beloved sisters, Helen Brooks Jarrell and Margaret Sue Jarrell Cantwell; and her husband, Frank Allison Bruner.

Donald Chiasson
Funeral services were held Friday ,Oct. 25, 2002, at 10 a.m. in the Gossen Funeral Home Chapel, for Donald Lloyd Chiasson, 64, who died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, in a Houston hospital.
Survivors include his loving and devoted companion, Gloria Boulet of Lafayette; his mother, Anna B. Falcon of Duson; three daughters, Judy Phillips, of Hollywood Fla., Jan Chiasson, of Evangeline, and Jackie Chiasson, of Lafayette; his grandson, who he raised as a son, Casey Chiasson, of Jackson Miss.; two brothers, Myron Paul and his wife, Sharon, Chiasson, of Macclenny, Fla., and Patrick Chiasson, of Densham Springs; five grandchildren, Priscilla, and Shane Phillips, Amanda Hines, all of Hollywood, Fla., Kelly and Brandy Hoffpauir of Crowley; and one great grandchild, Maya Rodriguez of Hollywood Fla.
Don was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Chiasson; two daugters, Jerrie Lee, and Jenny Marie Chiasson; his maternal grandparents, Edward and Emelda Angelle Burch; paternal grandparents, Louis and Emma Domingue Chiasson.
Donald was born and raised in Duson, and was a resident of Lafayette for 26 years. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1956, and in his senior year won the heavyweight boxing state championship.
Don then served four years in the U.S. Navy where he was an aviation electrician, second class E5. He then preceded to work in the oil field for the next 24 years where he retired as an electrical superintendent with SECO Industries of Lafayette.
During those 24 years Don also worked as a residential contractor in his spare time building a number of houses throughout the Lafayette area. Don, often called “Pa” in his later years, developed quite a reputation for his work ethic and will to get the job done.
Don was a loving son, father, and grandfather and will be missed by all whose lives were touched by him.
A rosary was recited Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
Burial was in the St. Theresa Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Leo Brown, Sr.
CHURCH POINT –– Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, in Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church here, with Father Francis Butler officiating, for Leo Brown, Sr., 79, of Church Point, who died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at 11 a.m. at his daughter’s home in Rayne.
Burial was in the old Our Mother of Mercy Cemetery in Church Point.
He is survived by four sons, John W. Brown and Roy A. Brown, both of Houston, Texas , Leo Brown, Jr., Church Point, and Ronnie J. Brown, Laurel, Md.; four daughters, Mary Lelia Batiste and Oakley Ann Brown, both of Denver, Colo., Theresa Wilson, Rayne, and Elizabeth Brown Guillory, Houston, Texas ; four sisters, Lacy Brown, Denver, Colo., Irene Brown, Los Angeles, Calif., and Juanita Yokum and Beverly Brown, both of Lake Charles; two brothers, Joseph Lee Brown, Lake Charles, and Iris Brown, Los Angeles, Calif.; 25 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Brown; his parents, Joseph Brown and Lelia Duplechain; two brothers, Ivory and James Brown; two grandchildren, Leo Brown III and Joseph Wilbert Batiste; and one great-granddaughter, Summer Marie Roybal Batiste.
Mr. Brown served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Angellas (Billice) Trahan
CROWLEY –– Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, in Immaculate Heart Catholic Church here, with Deacon Rev. Mr. Cody Miller officiating, for Angellas (Billice) Trahan, 73, of Crowley, who died at 8:03 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2002, in Lafayette General Medical Center.
A rosary was prayerd Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Burial was in the Abshire Cemetery in rural Kaplan.
He is survived by his wife, Olida Trahan, Crowley; six sons, Charles Trahan, Randall Trahan, Greg Bertrand, Scotty Trahan and Timothy Trahan, all of Crowley, and David Trahan, Milton; four daughters, Brenda Romero, Daraleen Welsh, Linda Abshire, and Cynthia Trahan, all of Crowley; three sisters, Enola Hulin, Port Arthur, Texas , Agnes Primeaux, Crowley, and Ethel Rose Brossette Glenmora; 25 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Trahan was preceded in death by his grandson, Brandon Jules Trahan; a great-grandson, David Cole Hoffpauir; his parents, Joseph Trahana and Sylvia Guidry Trahan; three brothers, Lessard, Deussard and Meussard Trahan; and one sister, Effie Hoffpauir.
Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley was in charge of arrangements.

Rose Elise Buller Breaux
CROWLEY –– Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel here, with Elder Jody Guidry and Youth Minister Brian Bourque officiating, for Rose Elise Buller Breaux, 68, of Crowley.
She died at 1:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, in the Labonnne Maison Nursing Home in Crowley.
Burial was in the Ky Hebert Cemetery in Roberts Cove.
She is surved by her husband, Eursin Breaux, Crowley; four sons, Carl. W. Fontenot, Roy S. Fontenot, David C. Fontenot and Don L. Fontenot, all of Ville Platte; one sister, Margorie LaFleur, Ville Platte; one brother, Rodney Buller, Ville Platte; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Breaux was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Rose Vidrine Buller; and one sister, Evelyn Bellard.
Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Joyce Miller
Crowley –– Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, in the First United Pentecostal Church of Crowley, with the Rev. Lenford Whitaker officiating, for Joyce Miller, 51, of Crowley, who died at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002.
Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
She is survived by one son, John Anthony, and his wife, Shonda Ashworth, of Georgia; one daughter, Erica Dawn and her husband, Donald Auzenne, Crowley; three brothers, Keith Dronet and Kim Dronet, boht of Crowley, and Richard Dronet, Lafayette; one sister, Loyce Miller, Crowley; her mother, Elsie Dronet, Crowley; and four grandchildren, Dustin and Corey Ashworth and Britni and Victoria Auzenne.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harry “Toot” Dronet.
She will be sadly missed by family and friends.
