Jerold “Jerry” Hoffpauir
EUNICE - Funeral services for Mr. Jerold "Jerry" Hoffpauir were held on Wednesday, October 20, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with burial following in the St. Louis. Cemetery. Reverend Carolyn Volentine was the officiating clergy.
Mr. Hoffpauir, 66, a resident of Eunice, died on October 17, 2004, at the Eunice Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Jerry worked for the Eunice News for some 30 plus years having been a past news editor and the present sports editor. He was also a member of the Eunice Rotary Club and the Cultural Community Service Committee.
Mr. Hoffpauir was the recipient of many awards such as the M.L.K. Humanitarian award, the Eunice Players Theater "Tim Wooten Award", of which he was the 9th recipient in 35 years, The "Community Service Award", the Eunice Rotary Club's "Citizen of the Year" award and the Eunice Jaycees' "Jaycee of the Year" award.
Mr. Hoffpauir was also the pastor for the First United Methodist Church in Basile. He was a long time friend and supporter of L.S.U.E. and was an Honorary Member of the Volunteer Fireman's Association.
Mr. Jerry Hoffpauir's name has always been synonymous with the town of Eunice and the Eunice News. Mr. "J", as he was known to his coworkers, was a friend to all and will be truly missed in this community.
The visitation was held at the funeral home beginning on Tuesday, October 19, 2004, from 12 noon until 9 p.m. and again on Wednesday, October 20, 2004 from 8 a.m. until time of services.
Survivors include his son, Clifton Dean Hoffpauir of Eunice; his mother, Hazel Hoffpauir of Crowley; two brothers, Kenneth Hoffpauir and wife, Zulah of Crowley and Elvis Lynn Hoffpauir and wife, Vanessa of Royersford, Pa.; two sisters, Mary Jo Hoffpauir and Hazel Dean Hoffpauir both of Crowley.
Mr. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Hoffpauir and his father, Howard Murrel Hoffpauir.
Ardoin's Funeral Home of Eunice was in charge of arrangements.

Agnes Moore Leger
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2004, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Agnes Moore Leger, 88, who died at 1:25 p.m. Thursday, October 7, 2004, at her residence.
interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery #2.
Lectors for the service were Henrietta Etta Gossen and Tammy Leger. Gift bearers were Beth Freda and Shelly Arnaud.
Survivors include one daughter, Edesse Leger and husband Wallen, of Crowley; two sons, Nason Leger and wife Yvonne, of Rayne, and Gerard Leger, Jr. and wife Jackie, of Duson; one sister, Hazel Dupont, of Lake Arthur; seven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, three great-greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerard Leger, Sr.; parents, Alfred and Clementine Boudreaux Moore; brothers and sisters.
A rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Friday.
The family requested that the visiting hours be observed from 3:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Friday and from 8:00 a.m. until service time Saturday.
Pallbearers were Kendall Leger, Jeremy Leger, Matthew Leger, Timothy Leger, Christopher Leger, and James Arnaud.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Ervin Joseph Sonnier
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 11, 2004, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Ervin Joseph Sonnier 64, who died Friday, October 8, 2004, in Biloxi, Mississippi in automobile accident.
interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery #2.
Survivors include his wife, Leloa Bernard, of Arnaudville; one daughter, Michelle “Minnie” Sonnier, of Mire; two sons, Scott Sonnier, of Lafayette, and Yancy Sonnier, of Atlanta, Georgia; two grandchildren, Tyler Sonnier, and Jett Dominick Daigle; mother, Viola B. Sonnier, of Rayne; two brothers, Milton Sonnier, of Tacoma, Washington and Patrick Sonnier of Rayne; one half sister, Yvonne Saltzman, of Rayne; first wife and mother f Yancy and Michelle, Veronica Vincent; second wife and mother of Scott, Sarah “Pug” Arceneaux.
He was preceded in death by father, Nolton Sonnier; granddaughter, Laci Sonnier; and sister, Charlene Theresa S. Boudreaux.
A rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Sunday.
The family requested that the visiting hours be observed from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Sunday and from 8:00 a.m. until service time Monday.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Wesley Mouton
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at the Shrine of Our Mother of Mercy for Mr. Wesley Mouton, 85, who died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at a Lafayette hospital.
Father Richard Wagner, S.S.J., will be the celebrant of the Mass assisted by Deacon Rev. Mr.Nolton Senegal.
interment will be in the Church Cemetery.
A member of the American Legion Post No. 569 and an usher at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, he is survived by three daughters, Hellen Mouton Francis, Jeanette Mouton Sylvester, and Marilynn Maud Mouton, all of Rayne; three grandchildren, Westley Derek Francis, Shantel Lynnn Sylvester, and Danielle (Cardell) Edmond, all of Rayne; one brother-in-law, J.D. Mosley; three sisters, Ida Carmouche of Rayne, Rose Senegal of Lake Charles, and Corinne (Jimmy) Batiste of Los Angeles, Calif., a special friend, Elizabeth Fontenot of Lake Charles, nine great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertie Guidry Mouton; an infant daughter, Rosemary Mouton; parents, Ezekiel Mouton, Sr., and Carrie Lee Smith Mouton; a sister, Thelma Jones; five brothers, Amos Mouton, Ezekiel Mouton, Jr., and Edward (Isom) Mouton. Roy Mouton and Charlie Mouton; two sons-in-law, Wilfred A. Francis, Sr., and Linzy Sylvester; a grandson, Wilfred Andrew “Kip” Francis, Jr.; and a great-grandson, Wilfred Andrew “Skip” Francis, III.
Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at Cunningham C.M.E. Church, 300 W. Harrop St., Rayn

Bernice G. Boudreaux
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Duhon Funeral Home in Rayne for Mrs. Bernice G. Boudreaux, 85, of Carencro.
Her grandson, the Rev. Carl Cormier, pastor of Victory World Outreach in Scott, conducted the funeral services.
She died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at 4 a.m. in the Magnolia Estate Nursing Home in Lafayette.
Music for for the funeral was provided by her grandsons, the Rev. Ken Holloway, and Jamey Bearb, a granddaughter, Mrs. Ellen Cormier, and Mrs. Mona Guedry.
interment was in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Scott, and will be officiated by her two grandsons, the Rev. Ken Holloway and the Rev. Carl Cormier, and her son-in-law, the Rev. Ricky Bearb.
Mrs. Boudreaux, the daughter of the late Clinton Guidry and the former Doristine Duplechin, was a native of Scott.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Wilma (Mervin) Holloway, Mrs. Dot (Wilbert) Cormier, Mrs. Verna (Oran) Steiner, Mrs. Wilma (Larry) Holloway, and Mrs. Debbie (Ricky) Bearb; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Lee (Kaliste) Richard, Mrs. Sybil (Leroy) Alleman and Mrs. Lernice (Oran) Trahan.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Mr. Widless Alleman and Mr. Paul Boudreaux; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and six brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Boudreaux was effectionately known to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren as “Mau Mau”. She brightened all our lives with her wonderful sense of humor and easy going personality and will be greatly missed.
Pallbearers were her three grandsons, Mr. Terry Holloway, Mr. Roland Boudreaux, and Mr. Oran Steiner, Jr., and her three great-grandsons, Damian Domingue, Mr. Christopher Durand and Mr. Jude Durand.
Visiting hours were observed Thursday from 10 a.m.to 10 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. until time of service.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of arrangements.
Special thanks to the nurses and staff from Magnolia Estates and Hospice for all the help, support and compassion. We would like to express our appreciation to Mr. Cyprien Meche, Mrs.Viola Shelvin and Mrs. Paula Richardson for the extra attention given to our mother during a very difficult time.

Mrs. Wallace R. Ousse, Sr.
CHURCH POINT –– Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church for Mrs. Wallace R. Ousse, Sr., 85. Mrs. Eleanor Zaunbrech-er Ousse died on Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at Opelousas General Hospital at 7:10 p.m. interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery in Rayne. She is survived by her husband, Wallace R. Ousse, Sr., of Church Point; two daughters, Helena Ousse Long and husband, Cal of Kenner, and Anne Ousse of Lafayette; one son, Wallace Ousse, Jr., and wife Debra of Frederick, Maryland; three brothers, Karl Zaunbrecher, Jr., Branch, and Bernard and Thomas Zaunbrecher, both of Rayne; three sisters, Louise Carpenter, Patricia Zaunbrecher and Julia Zaunbrecher, all of Rayne; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Ousse was a member of the Church Point Rosary Group. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday by Deacon Rev. Mr. Jim Cormier.
Arrangements were entrusted to Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point.

Annie Babineaux Lejeune
Funeral services were held Monday October 4, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Richard for Annie Babineaux Lejeune, 97, who died Saturday, October 2, 2004, at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Survivors include four sons, Wallace, of Rayne, Eldridge, of Eunice, Callan, of Rayne, and Austin Lejeune of Lafayette; six daughters, Louise Guidry of Rayne, Lita Lejeune of Eunice, Bertha Lavergne of Richard, Helen Brasseaux of Rayne, Thelma Smith of Rayne, and Barbara Primeaux of Scott; and her twin sister Mamie Doucet of Westlake. She is also survived by 42 grandchildren, 103 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Lejeune was preceded in death by her husband Cyphor Lejeune; one son Nelson Lejeune; one daughter, Marie Lejeune; one grandchild, Mark Honore’ LeJeune; and two great- grandchildren,Thomas Cannon Lejeune, and Ian Brodie Richard, She was also preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers were Gary Lejeune, Lance Lejeune, Shane Primeaux, Jimmy Guidry, Kory Fontenot, Shannon Brasseaux, Todd Lavergne, and Jason Smith.
Honorary pallbearers were Tyler Lejeune, Randall Lejeune, John Robert Lejeune, Robert Lejeune II, and Little Guy Perrodin.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Russell J. Kibodeaux
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Russell J. Kibodeaux, 66, who died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Survivors include his wife, Ida R. Kibodeaux of Rayne; two sons, Terry P. Kibodeaux, and Steve A. Kibodeaux, both of Rayne; three daughters, Karen K. Franzel, Vickie K. LeBlanc , and Elena K. Sawyer all of Rayne; two brothers, Alex Kibodeaux of Carencro, and Larry Kibodeaux of Rayne; four sisters, Gloria K. Meche of Branch, Sybil K. Miller of Sulphur, Geraldine K. Duffy of Lafayette, and Janice K. Mays of Scott; eight grandchildren, one step-grandchild, and two great-grandchildren.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Etain and Bertile Lavergne Kibodeaux; one son, Russell J. “Rusty” Kibodeaux Jr.; his grandson, Christopher Paul LeBlanc ; and brothers, Kermit, Allen, and Gerald Kibodeaux.
Burial was in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral home of Rayne.

Nola L. “Bell” Nickson
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, in Starlight Baptist Church, with Rev. Mack E. Crayton officiating, for Nola L. “Bell” Nickson, 74, of Rayne, who died at 5:20 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. She was a homemaker.
Burial followed in the Rayne Protestant Cemetey.
She is survived by a son, Johnny Nickson, Lafayette; two daughters, Edna Mouton and Annie Randall, both of Rayne; two brothers, Martin Lewis of Rayne and Johnny Lewis of Port Arthur, Texas ; one sister, Mary Guidry of Rayne; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Final arrangements were entrusted to Frank Brothers Funeral Home of Eunice.

Geston Joseph Venable
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, in St. Theresa Catholic Church in Duson, with Father Martin Leonards officiating, for Geston Joseph Venable, 79, of Rayne, who died at 9:20 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, in the Rayne Guest Home.
A rosary was prayed Tuesday night in the Life Center.
Burial was in the St. Theresa Cemetery in Duson.
He is survived by his wife, Dottie Venable, Duson; three daughters, Kathleen McNeal, Effie, La., Wendy Venable, Crowley, and Linda Bourque, Duson; one son, Tony Venable, Duson; one brother, Aaron Venable, Duson; two sisters, Agnes Trahan, Lafayette, and Ann Jones, Orlando, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, LaPearl and Louis Venable; one grandchild, Kelly Marie Breaux; one brother, Easton Venable; and one sister, Renee Faul.
He was a farmer and his hobby was fishing.
Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
