Marie H. Trahan

CROWLEY –– Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 22, 2004, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for Marie H. Trahan, the former Marie Hebert, 84, who died on Sunday, September 19, 2004 at 6:11 a.m. at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley.

Burial was recited by Father. Gary Schexneyder. Visitation was observed on Tuesday, September 21, from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. and on Wednesday, from 8 a.m. until service time.

A rosary was recited on Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. with Sr. Justine officiating.

Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley.

Mrs. Trahan was born in Estherwood, La and lived the majority of her life as a resident of Crowley. She was married to the late Maxie Trahan for 60 years. Mrs. Trahan was most noted in the area for her collection of antiques. Along with her husband, she owned and operated the Crowley Flea Market and Marie’s Antique Shop.

Mrs. Trahan is survived by three children, Glenda Danna of Crowley, Larry Trahan and daughter-in-law Esther of Crowley, and John Trahan and daughter-in-law Denise of Rayne; six grandchildren, Carolyn Bertrand, Maxie Trahan, Jonathan Danna, Mary Elizabeth Danna, Bill Trahan and Claire Trahan; four great-grandchildren, Noelle Bertrand, Amelia Bertrand, Jeremiah Danna and Madelyn Danna.

Mrs.Trahan was preceded in death by her husband, Maxie; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Aliar Hebert; four brothers, Gaston, Leon, Aliar and Eraste Hebert; three sisters, Ida Louquette, Mildred Decuir and Madria Duhon and one son-in-law, Jerry Danna.

Pallbearers were Jonathan Danna, Max Trahan, Bill Trahan, Jeremiah Danna, Wes Bertrand, Bradley Decuir, Benny Decuir, Michael Decuir and Tommy Chaisson.

Honorary pallbearers were Richard Chaisson and S. Junior Luquette.

Mildred Elizabeth Godeaux

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2004, at a Mass of Christian Burial in Gossen Funeral Home Chapel for Mildred Elizabeth Godeaux, 72, who died at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, September 19, 2004, in Crowley American Legion Hospital.

interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery #2.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Sonnier, of Rayne; one stepson, Russell James Sonnier, of New Roads; one sister, Gladys Freeman, of Rayne; four brothers, Allen Navarre, of Rayne, Wallace Navarre, of Texas , James Navarre, of Mamou, and Emerson Navarre, of Orange, Texas ; four grandchildren; three step grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in by her first husband, J.D. Soonier, second husband, Lawrence Godeaux; parents, John Navarre and Elizabeth Schexnayder; four sisters, Hazel Credeur, Lou Anna Murphy, Rose Godeaux, Lilly Mae St. Amand; and two brothers, Duwey Navarre, Weday Navarre.

A rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.

The family requested that the visiting hours be observed from 11:00 a.m until 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, and from 8:00 a.m. until time of services Wednesday.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Gladys Alleman Nero

Duson - Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Theresa Catholic Church in Duson for Gladys Alleman Nero, 80, who died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004. at 7:45 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.

interment was in St. Theresa Cemetery in Duson.

Survivors include thirteen children, Harris Nero, of Scott, Bertha Menard and husband Henry Tex, of Rayne, Larry Nero, of Duson, Wilson Nero, of Duson, Kenneth Nero and wife Barbara, of Crowley, Margaret Porrier, of Scott, Daniel Nero and wife Kathy, of Scott, Betty Vincent, of Rayne, Michael Nero and wife Rachael, of Rayne, Roger Nero and wife Cindy, of Rayne, Rodney Nero, of Lafayette, Patrick Nero and wife Naomi, of Ville Platte, Alton Nero, Jr. and wife Christine, of Duson; two brothers; three sisters; twenty-two grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Nero, Sr.; parents, Etienne and Edna Johnson Alleman; three brothers.

A rosary was recited at 5 p.m. Monday.

The family requested that the visiting hours be observed from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. until time of service Tuesday.

Pallbearers were her beloved grandchildren.

Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

Lillian Landry Sonnier

LEROY -- Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 14, 2004, at a 3 p.m. Mass of Christian Buiral in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Leroy honoring the life of Lillian Landry Sonnier.

She was laid to rest at Leroy Cemetery with the Rev. Joseph Breaux officiating the services. Musical selections were provided by Jackie Fulk and Phyillis Clark and including Amazing Grace, The Lord is Kind and Merciful, Ave Maria , How Great Thou Art, Notre Pére and J’Irai La Voir Un Jour (I’ll See You in Heaven).

Serving as pallbearers were Harry Leon, Thomas Sonnier, Brice Laurents, Maurcie Laurents, Raymond Leon and Marian Gale Breaux.

Readers for the Mass were Milissa Laurents and Patricia Gautreaux. Gift bearers were Blaine, Brice and Milissa Laurents.

On September 13, 2004, the heavens parted and Lillian Landry Sonnier was lifted by the loving arms of Jesus into the place where there is no pain -- only peace. Born October 15, 1917, she was 86 years old and a resident of Rayne Guest Home.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories and carry on her legacy, her daughter, Savanna Leon and her husband Harry of Rayne; her son, Thomas Louis Sonnier of Leroy; one granddaughter, Milissa Laurents and her husband Maurice, and two great-grandsons, Brice and Blaine Laurents, all of Rayne.

She has gone to meet those who have preceded her in death: her husband, Savrey Valantine Sonnier; her father, Dua Landry and mother the former Angelle Trahan; and her sister, Gladys Landry.

The family requested visiting hours at Vincent Funeral Home, 300 Eleazar Ave., Kaplan, Monday, Sept. 13, from 4 until 9 ap.m. with a rosary prayed at 7 p.m. Visitation continued Tuesday, Sept. 14, from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. when the procession departed for the church.

All funeral arrangements were conducted by Vincent Funeral Home of Kaplan.

Wallace Philip Guidry, Sr.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 14, 2004, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Wallace Philip Guidry, Sr, 82, who died at 4:35 a.m. Sunday, September 12, 2004 at his residence.

interment was in St. Joseph #2 Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Lena Terro Guidry, of Rayne; two daughters, Mildred Guidry Mire, of Rayne, Janelle Guidry Meche and husband Errol, of Maurice; three sons, Wallace Guidry, Jr. and wife Viola, of Indian Bayou, Jimmy Guidry and wife Gussie, of Rayne, Paul Guidry and wife Karen, of Deer Park, Texas .; one sister, Bernice Hazlett, of Rayne; one brother, Ed Martin and wife Claire, of Port Barre; 20 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and one great- great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Craig Guidry; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, Katelyn Guidry; parents, Edgar and Elbert Thibodeaux Guidry; one brother, Calvin Guidry; and two sisters, Lillian Boullion, Elvie Richard.

Mr. Guidry served in the Army in WWII, he was member of American Legion in Rayne, and also V.F.W. in Judice.

A rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Monday.

The family requested that the visiting hours be observed from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Monday and from 8:00 a.m. until time of services Tuesday.

Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

James “Rusty” Russell Guidry, Jr.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2004, at a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for James “Rusty” Russell Guidry, 54, who died Wednesday, September 3, 2004 at his residence.

interment was in Leger Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Carolyn Lawrence Guidry, of Rayne; two sons, Stephen Russell Guidry, of Baton Rouge, David Michael Guidry, of Lafayette; mother, Bernice “Bee” Leger Guidry, of Rayne; one brother, Robert “Bobby” Patrick Guidry and wife Karen, of Lafayette.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Russell Guidry, Sr.

Rusty was a retired building contractor, educator and real estate appraiser and was currently serving on the Board of Directors at Rayne State Bank, and was a avid hunter and fisherman. He was also a partner in the Leger Family Farm.

The Guidry Family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Rainey and Felecia and the nurses of 5 central at Our Lady of Lourdes.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to; Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St. Ste. 200, Lafayette, La. 70503-3240; or Rayne Catholic Elementary, 407 S. Polk St., Rayne, La. 70578.

A rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday.

Pallbearers were Stephen Russell Guidry, David Michael Guidry, Robert “Bobby” Patrick Guidry, Clyde Leger, Jr., Ralph Guerin and Charlie Soileau. Honary pallbearers were Jim Yeager, Mark Arnold, John Craton and Roland Guidry.

The family requested that the visiting hours be observed from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.

Arrangements were entrusted to Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.
