RICHARD WILSON

A memorial service for Richard Wilson of Bastrop will be held at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 16 at Memorial Methodist Church with Revs. Beau Horne and Dwight Fulton officiating. Golden Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wilson, age 43, died Dec. 12 at his residence in Bastrop. He was a member of the Methodist faith.

He is survived by his mother, Alice Carroll of Bastrop; two sons, Zachary Wilson and James Wilson, both of Monticello, Ark.; one sister, Catherine Tisdale of China Springs, Texas ; one brother Robert Carroll of Bastrop; two nephews, Jonathan Tisdale of Bastrop and Richard Jason Tisdale of New Orleans; and two uncles, Jeffery Duncan of Bastrop and Howard Wilson of Fredericksburg, Texas .

ELMUS GLENDORA RAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Elmus Glendora Ray, age 92, of Bastrop, will be held 2 PM Tuesday December 16, 2003 at Cox Funeral Home in Bastrop with Rev. James Andrews officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop. Mrs. Ray was born July 7, 1911 in Mentor City, Mississippi and died Saturday December 13, 2003 at Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop. She was preceded in death by her parents Andrew Caldwell and Eva Greenlee Carroll. Mrs. Ray is survived by her sister, Elsie Bailey of Jackson ville, Texas , nephews, Andrew Carroll of West Monroe and Bruce Carroll of Memphis, Tennessee, a niece, Peggy Hood of Rusk, Texas , 9 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Andrew Carroll, Steve Books, David Books, Micah Ross, Clayton Books, Seth Bowden, and Charlie Starr. Honorary pallbearers will be the residents of the Bond House Apartments. Visitation will be Monday December 15 from 6 PM until 8 PM at the funeral home.

CANDACE ANNE SIMONSON

Funeral services for Mrs. Candace Anne Simonson, age 93, of Monroe, formerly of Oak Grovewill be 2 p.m. Monday Dec. 15, 2003 at Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop, with the Rev. Harold Thomas and the Rev. Norwood Shelton officiating. Burial will follow at Concord Cemetery near Oak Grove under the direction of Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop. Mrs. Simonson Passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2003 at Avalon Place in Monroe. She was a retired teacher from the Chicago, Ill. area and a member of the Christadelphian Ecclesia. Candace Simonson touched many lives in so many positive ways-always cheerful, loving, giving, and an inspiration to everyone. A quote that describes her says,"the most blessed person of all is the person who receives spontaneous pleasure from giving to others." Mrs. Simonson is preceded in death by her husband; Roy Stanley Simonson, parents; Walter Elias and Annie Jane McGaha Sanders, brothers; Amos Sanders, Walter Sanders, Jr., sisters; Leone Heard, and Abigail Thomas.

Mrs. Simonson is survived by her two sons; Gerald Leroy Simonson and wife Mimi Simonson of St. Helena, California, and Roger Kent Simonson and wife Louise Simonson of Riverwoods, Illinois, a brother; Mack Sanders, of Swartz, Louisiana , six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Brad Shelton, Billy Husted, Steve Howe, Steve Dew, Mark McCallum, Michael Bruscato, Trace Moore.

Visitation will be Monday Dec. 15, from 9 a.m. until noon at the funeral home.

MARY EDNA NOLAN HILL

Funeral services for Mary Edna Nolan Hill, 92, of Monroe, were to be held on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004 at 3 p.m. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel on Lamy Lane in Monroe, with the Rev. William Earl Nolan officiating. Burial followed in Riverview Cemetery, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home.Visitation was held from 2 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday.

Mrs. Hill was born Nov. 26, 1911, in Oak Ridge. She was one of eleven children and was reared in the Baptist faith. She graduated from Oak Ridge High School and received her formal education in music and voice at the University of Arkansas. As a young woman, she sang professionally, touring with orchestras and performing on radio shows before marrying Cecil Morgan Hill, Sr. After her marriage, she was dedicated to a life of music and taught piano to area children for many years.

Edna loved people and entertaining. During her husband's tenure as Director of the Louisiana Bond and Building Commission, she was known throughout Baton Rouge as a gracious hostess, entertaining governors, legislators, and their wives, who often gathered around her piano to join her as she played and sang. She loved gardening, raising beautiful flowers which she and her sister Gladys arranged for parties for friends and family.

Her dedication to her family was utmost and she played an active part in the lives of her nieces and nephews, and loved each as if her own.

She was a member of Parkview Baptist Church, and was active in the Monroe Music Guild, La Vingt Book Study Club, the Monroe Garden Club, and the Abram Morehouse Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Francis 'Molly' Stokes Nolan and Jessie J. Nolan; her husband, Cecil Morgan Hill; her brothers: Bill, Jack, Earl, Jessie, and Bobby Nolan; her sisters: Gladys Fleischmann, Elbie Brown, Frances Thompson, and Katie Reitzell; and her sisters-in law, Georgia Hill Kellogg and Carrie Hill Youngblood.

She is survived by her son, Cecil Morgan Hill, Jr. and wife Annetta of Monroe; granddaughter Susan Amanda Hill Sims and husband George of Bastrop; great-granddaughters Mary Elizabeth Barham, Georgia Morgan Barham, and Susan Louise Sims of Bastrop; sister Dorothy Nolan Hernandez of Bunkie; sister-in-law Earline Nolan of Baton Rouge; and brother-in-law Uriah Milsaps Youngblood of Riverton.

Pallbearers were Jackie Nolan, Johnny Nolan, Bobby Dhu Thompson, Clyde Thompson, David Thompson, Francis Thompson, Mike Thompson, and Hugh Youngblood.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Mrs. Johnnie Worley and her staff, especially Ruby Huber and Charlotte Cartilage who have given love and care to Edna for the past eleven years.

Memorials may be made to Parkview Baptist Church, 1001 Forsythe Avenue, Monroe, 71201, or to the charity of one's choice.

MRS. PATRICK H. "BILLIE" MARTIN

Mrs. Patrick H. "Billie" Martin of Bastrop died at age 81 on Jan. 24, 2004 at her home after a brief illness. She was born Sept. 16, 1922 at Tallulah, daughter of Dr. Malvin W. Owens and Letha Ellen Marshall Owens. She graduated as valedictorian from Bonita High School and held degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

An accomplished musician, Mrs. Martin taught piano in Bastrop. She taught at Head Start at the inception of the program in Morehouse and as a special education teacher for the Morehouse Parish School system. For three terms, Billie was elected to the Morehouse Parish School Board as well as being elected to serve on the Central Committee of the Louisiana Republican Party in the 1950s and 1960s and at the time of her death was serving as a commissioner for the Morehouse Board of Elections.

Mrs. Martin had been a member of the dance group The Golden Girls of Monroe at the formation of the group. Other long-time memberships included the Coterie Study Club and Bayou Desiard Country Club. Her volunteer activities have included the Morehouse Humane Society, the Monroe Symphony League, the Monroe Symphony Board, the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council, the Monroe Women's Republican Club, the Friends of the Civic Center Theatre, Crimestoppers of Bastrop and many other organizations. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and of Bastrop and St. Joseph Altar Society. She was also the first PTO president of St. Joseph Catholic School.

Mrs. Martin is survived by two sons, Michael Owens Martin of Burlington, Ken. and Patrick H. Martin IV of Clinton and a daughter, Ellen Martin Highsmith of Bastrop; 11 grandchildren, Patrick H. Martin V of Baton Rouge, Shannon Betts of Atlanta, Ga. Michelle, Drew, Luke Thomas and Helen Martin of Clinton; Richard Highsmith of Cornelia, Ga., Jonathan Highsmith of Bastrop and Christopher and William Highsmith, both of Fayetville, N.C. and two great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Highsmith of Fayetteville, N.C. and Katie-Claire Highsmith of Cornelia, Ga. She is preceded in deathy by her beloved husband of 58 years, Patrick H. Martin, III, by both of her parents, a brother, Herbert Q. Martin of Mobile, Ala. and a granddaughter, Katie Martin.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Patrick, Drew, Luke, and Thomas Martin and Richard, Jonathan, Christopher and William Highsmith. Honorary pallbearers will be The Golden Girls Club of Monroe.

Funeral services are being scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Golden Funeral Home with visitation being 5-9 p.m. Tuesday.

LILLIE BEA BENTON

Funeral services for Lillie Bea Benton of Mer Rouge will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Morehouse District Missionary Baptist Association on Collinston Road with the Rev. Henry Williams officiating. interment will follow in H.W. Adams cemetery under the direction of Loche's Mortuary. Wake services will be tonight, Jan. 26 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Mer Rouge at 6 p.m.

BOBBY BRANDON "ROSCO" MCCALL

Funeral services for Bobby Brandon "Rosco" McCall, age 23, of Oak Grove were to be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004 at the Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Grove with the Rev. David Shiers and the Rev. Keith Riley officiating. Burial was to follow in the Red Wing Cemetery near Oak Grove.

TOM I. KINNAIRD

Funeral services for Tom I. Kinnaird, 66, of Hamburg was born on February 4, 1037 in Galion, Louisiana . He died on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004 at his residence. He was a resident of the Extra community south of Hamburg for many years. He retired from the Georgia Pacific Foresry in 1996 after over 40 years of service. He was a member of he Extra United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Circle K hunting club and an avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lou Chappell Kinnaird in 1997; his parents, Easter and Mary Reavie Holland Kinnaird; one sister, Bonnie Dean Kinnaird and two brothers, Charles Edward and Larry L. Kinnaird.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie Vaulner Kinnaird; two sons, Calvin Kinnaird, both of Hamburg and Kenneth Leo Kinnaird of El Dorado, Ark; a stepson, Claude Garner of McCroy, Ark; seven step daughters, Nancy Hyatt of McCroy, Ark., Claudia Higginbotham of Oxnard, Calif, Sarah Garner Crews of Hunnington, Ind., Frances Garner Haverstick and Jeannie Cansler both of Augusta Ark., Betty Garner Ladd of Bono Ark. and Peggy Garner Wilson of Cabot, Ark; one brother , R.E. Kinnaird of Hamburg; five sisters, Billie Jean Doles of Bonita, Sarah Cruce, Rachel Summerland, Faye Hunter and Ann Austin, all of Hamburg; three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren and 10 step great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were to be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. on Jan. 25, 2004 at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church on the Berlin Road with the Rev. James Fleming and the Rev. Kenneth Watt oficiating. Burial was to follow in the Extra Cemetery under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home in Hamburg. Pallbearers were to be Mr. Kinnaird's nephews. Memorials May be made to the Extra Cemetery Association or the Extra United Methodist Church both in care of Mrs. Katherine Dew, 2026 Ashley Road 25, Hamburg, Ark. 71646.

ELMO SIMMONS

Funeral services for Elmo Simmons, 63 of Bastrop, are incomplete but will be under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Simmons died Sunday, March 7, 2004, at Morehouse General Hospital.

BEULA WILKERSON

Funeral services for Beula Wilkerson, 92, of Bastrop, were held at 10:30 a.m. today, Monday, March 8, 2004, at the Golden Funeral Home Chapel in Bastrop with the Rev. Willis Wilkerson and the Rev. Charles Dupree officiating. Internment followed in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Bastrop under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Visitation was held from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Golden's.

Mrs. Wilkerson, a homemaker and member of Cherry Ridge Baptist Church, died Saturday, March 6, at Morehouse General Hospital.

She is survived by two sons, Willis Wilkerson and Melvin Wilkerson and wife Jan, all of Bastrop; three sisters, Inez Gawthorp of Cody, Wy., Verta Mae Copes of Denham Springs and Ellen Krause of Fort Myers, Fla.; 15 grandchildren, Beverly White , Donna Vinson, Jerri Bishop, John Williams, Randy Williams, Stephen Williams, Kevin Wilkerson, Keith Wilkerson, Chris Wilkerson, Tab Wilkerson, Deona Richards, Eric Wilkerson, Ray Wilkerson, Wes Wilkerson and Leslie Petrus; 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.R. Wilkerson, a son, Charles Wayne Wilkerson, a daughter Janette Williams, a grandson Landon Wilkerson and a granddaughter Lorri Howard.

Serving as pallbearers were Ray Wilkerson, Wes Wilkerson, John Williams, Randy Williams, Keith Wilkerson and Tab Wilkerson. Honorary pallbearers were Stephen Williams, Chris Wilkerson, Scott Petrus, Eric Wilkerson, Ed White , Andy Richards, Alan Bishop, David Vinson and Kevin Wilkerson.

Emmette Bowden Duff Jr.

Emmette Bowden "E.B." Duff Jr., of Camden, Arkansas, died Monday, November 29, 2004 at the Hospitality Care Center, Arkadelphia, Ark., after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

He was born June 26, 1923 in Columbia, Caldwell Parish, to Emmette Bowden and Lucille Elliott Duff. He was retired from International Paper Co. after 30 years of work with the mill in Bastrop, Springhill, La., Texarkana, Texas and Camden, Ark. He was a member of Chidester Baptist Church.

E.B. is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lillian Laird Duff; two daughters, Linda Niemeir and husband, Gilbert of Camden, Ark. and Judy Aswell and husband, Eugene of Bastrop; one grandson, Carl Kitchens Jr. of Camden, Ark.; three granddaughters, Katherine, Mary and Rebecca Aswell of Bastrop; one great-granddaughter, Suzanne Kitchens of Camden, Ark.; a niece, Sharon Hall and husband, Troy Wayne of Bastrop; a nephew, Charles Haddox and wife, Judy of Allen, Texas ; a grandnephew, Greg Hall and wife, Angela of Bastrop; grandniece, Sarah Haddox of Allen, Texas ; a great-grandnephew, Shawn Hall, and great-grandniece, Melanie Hall, both of Bastrop.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Duff; his sister, Eva Haddox; his great-grandson John Bowden Kitchens, and grandniece, Mary Dee Haddox.

E.B. was a World War II veteran, having served three and one-half years in the South Pacific with the United States Navy Sea Bees CBMU 502, 1942-46. Heading up a crew of workmen he built and maintained airstrips for marine aircraft in the Solomon Islands.

After discharge, he attended Soule' Business College in New Orleans and went to work with IP in 1953 as a clerk-typist. He took correspondence courses regarding radio and TV, and worked after hours repairing them. He enjoyed astronomy and actually built several telescopes, grinding and polishing the mirrors for each. He retired in 1983 after serving as Maintenance Foreman at several IP facilities. E.B. was president of the Upper White Oak Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He loved living on the lake, was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also loved reading especially scientific and electronic material.

Proctor Funeral Home of Camden, Ark., is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, December 3, 2004 at the Proctor chapel with the Rev. Don Garner officiating. interment will be at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Bastrop with the Rev. Jimmy Herring officiating. Betty Jean Gay

Funeral services for Betty Jean Gay, 62, of Bastrop will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 6, 2004 at New Morning Star with Pastor Elder Roy Simmons officiating.

Burial will follow at Red Hill Cemetary. Vistatation will be held from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Dec. 5 at Montgomery Funeral Home.

BEN RALPH DUNN

Funeral services for Ben Ralph Dunn will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002 at Christ Episcopal Church in Bastrop with the Rev. Herman Ogea officiating. interment will be in the Bonne Idee-Harp Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be Saturday from 4-7 p.m. at the church.

Ben was born Jan. 23, 1936 in Bastrop and died Oct. 17, 2002. Ben lived all of his life in Bastrop.

Ben Dunn was preceded in death by his parents, Prentiss "Shorty" and Louise Callicott Dunn.

Ben Ralph Dunn is sued by his wife of 43 years, Juanita Wolfe Dunn; three daughters, Dr. Gigi Dunn of Pumpkin Center, La; Anne-Claire Dunn Stephenson and husband Curtis of Bastrop; Megan Dunn-Meador and husband Scotty of Mer Rouge; two grandsons, Tyler and Zachary Stephenson of Bastrop; a sister, Sharon Dunn-Alexander of Wesson, Miss., a brother, Prentiss C. "Speedy" Dunn of Vienna, Austria; and a close family friend, Louise Lee of Collinston.

Ben was an insurance agent in Bastrop for 37 years as the owner of Dunn Insurance Agency. For the last 10 years, Ben shared his business with his daughter Megan at Dunn and Dunn Financial Services in Bastrop.

Pallbearers are Grant Foster, George Clark, Elva Greer, Carl Cathey, Larry Bradley, Lynn Shortnacy, Ed Henry and C.J. Fontana.

Ben Ralph Dunn led Fidelity Union/Allianz Life Insurance Companies as the top salesman three different years. He was also recognized as one of the top 12 agents for over 32 years with his company. Mr. Dunn held the distinction of being the first agent with his company to have over $100 million of life insurance in force. Ben was a founding member of the $5 million forum and was a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Roundtable.

Outside of family and insurance sales, Ben Ralph Dunn enjoyed officiating college basketball. He refereed in the Southeastern Conference, Metro Conference and Sun Belt Conference for 32 years.

After graduating cum laude from Northeast Louisiana University, Ben first began his career as a school teacher and coach with the Morehouse Parish School System. He also served as a juvenile detention officer with the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office.

Ben loved the times he spent in service to his community taking time to teach swimming to children, raising funds for the Morehouse Parish American Cancer Society or playing Santa Claus to many families in our area.

For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Church of Bastrop, the American Cancer Society, or the charity of one's choice.

VERSIE LEE WARD

Versie Lee Ward, age 77, died Monday, Oct. 14 at Ashley Memorial Hospital in Crossett, Ark. Funeral services for Mrs. Ward will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002 at Shiloh Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jimmy Davis, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery in Crossett under the direction of Crump and Cromwell Funeral Home in Hamburg, Ark.
