REX LAVELLE McREE

Funeral services for Rex Lavelle McRee are scheduled for 2 p.m. today, Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at Greenacres Baptist Church with the Revs. Jerry Price, James Moffit and Arnold Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Visitation was held at Greenacres until time of service today.

Mr. McRee, 85, died Saturday, Nov. 17, at Morehouse General Hospital. A resident of Bastrop, he was retired from Stauffer Chemical Plant. A World War II veteran, he was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a charter member of Greenacres Baptist Church and a charter member of Campers on Mission Inc.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Williams McRee of Bastrop; two sons, Kenneth L. McRee and his wife Vernie and James A. McRee, all of Bastrop; three grandchildren, Darren Keith McRee and wife Sherri, Kelli Havener and husband Brad, and Melissa White and husband Clint; four great-grandchildren, Isaac McRee, Ezra McRee, Mason White and Jennifer White .

Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Doles, Standford Sivils, Snow Calhoon, Robert Dolan, Heath Doles and V. Emal Solieau.

RANDY L. BROWN SR.

Funeral services for Randy L. Brown Sr., 53, will be announced by Golden's Funeral Home. He died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001. He was the owner and operator of Randy's Wheel Alignment in Bastrop.

A resident of Bastrop, he was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Leo Brown and Lola Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy Williams Brown of Bastrop; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa and Douglas Mullen and Tracy and Todd Whitten, all of Bastrop; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tammy and Randy Brown Jr., of Crossett, Ark., and Kurt and Niki Brown of Bastrop; two sisters, Dale Butler of Bastrop and Karen Nolan of Farmerville; three brothers, Duane Brown, Timmy Brown, both of Bastrop, and David Brown of Covington; and ten grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be Benton Miller, Whit Broussard, Joe Womack, Randy Lowery, Gerald Lester, William Gorman and Danny Barmore.

ALICE COOPER FILES

Graveside services were held Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002 at the Oak Ridge Baptist Cemetery for Alice Cooper Files under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home with the Rev. Louis Redden officiating.

W. LAYTON STEPHENSON

Memorial visitation for W. Layton Stephenson will be held from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002, at the Golden Funeral Home Chapel in Bastrop.

Mr. Stephenson, 71, a travel agent, died at his residence on Wednesday, May 29.

Survivors include his wife, Dot Stephenson; two daughters, Kathy Wood of Longview, Texas , and Kay Stephenson of Baton Rouge; two sons, Keith Stephenson and Kelly Stephenson, both of Bastrop; one sister, Betty Herzog of Bastrop; one brother, Floyd Stephenson of Bastrop; one grandson, Taylor Wood of Longview and one granddaughter, Lindsey Wood of Longview.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

ELMER T. WINFREY

Funeral services for Elmer T. Winfrey, 87, of Bastrop, will be held today, Feb. 3, 2003 at 3 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church with the Revs. Vic Carter and Paul Carter officiating. interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Winfrey died on Feb. 1, 2003 at his residence. Visitation was held on Sunday, Feb. 2 from 5 to 9 p.m.

Mr. Winfrey was a retired operating electrician at International Paper, a member of the Quarter Century Club and IP and a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Faith Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Winfrey; two daughters, Wilma Allen and husband Charles Curtis Allen and Phyllis Sisson and husband Billy of Bastrop; one sister, Geraldean Fox of Bastrop; one brother, O.B. Winfrey of Flat Rock, Ala.; four grandchildren, Kevin Sisson, Terry Sisson Russell, Mike Allen and Shawn Allen; five great-grandchildren, Raychel Sisson, Case Russell, Shelly Allen, Holly Allen and Chasity Allen and one great-great granddaughter Paige Sistrunk. Pallbearers will be Clark Bowen, Greg Russell, Mike Allen, Kevin Sisson, Shawn Allen and Douglas Goyne. Honorary pallbearers are deacons of Faith Baptist Church.

MARY HOLLINS JONES

Funeral services for sister Mary Hollins Jones of Collinston will be held Saturday, March 29, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Salem No. 2 MBC on Hasting Road in Collinston with Minister Raymond Gill, pastor, officiating. Tennant's Mortuary, Inc. of Rayville is in charge of arrangements.

The quiet hour will be Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the church.

SADIE SANFORD CAIN

Memorial services will be held for Sadie Sanford Cain at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon, June 21, 2003, at Horseshoe Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Lowry officiating. The Rev. Lowry is Cain's step-grandson who lives with his wife, Carrie in Pampa, Texas .

Cain died at 2 a.m. on June 12, 2003 in IHS of Texoma at Sherman, Texas following a lengthy illness.

Born in Epps on July 12, 1931, her family moved in 1935 to Mer Rouge where she attended schools. As teenager, she became a member of Horseshoe Baptist Church. Cain was an employee in the Bag Pak division of International Paper Co. of Bastrop, and later moved to Texas and managed 7-11 Stores in Ft. Worth, Dallas and Sherman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace "Red" Cain of Bastrop; her son, Horace Cain Jr., of Ft. Worth, and her parents, Sellie Kyle and Eunice Evans Sanford of Mer Rouge and Bastrop.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Cain Lowry and husband, Charlie Sherman, and grandchildren; the Rev. Matthew Lowry and wife, Carrie of Dennison, Texas ; Joe Foard Jr., of Sherman, Texas ; Stacey Roan of Colbert, Okla.; Robert Cain and Christopher Cain of Ft. Worth, Texas ; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Horace (Alice) Cain Jr., of Ft. Worth, Texas ; three brothers and their wives, Bobby and Ruby Sanford of Collinston; Earl and Andrea Sanford, and Charles and Judy Sanford, of Bastrop; and three sisters, Verna Adams of Carriere, Miss.; Lemma Dunn and husband, Calvin or Springhill and Mattie Davis of Mer Rouge; and six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

LETHA MANNING MASON

Funeral services for Letha Manning Mason, 63, of Tunica Miss. will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003 at 10 am. at Berea Baptist Church with Glenn Hamilton of Cape Gerado, Mo. and Jeff Hulsizer of Jackson ville, Ark. interment will follow in Berea Cemetery under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home. Mrs. Mason died on Aug. 6 at her residence.

Mrs. Mason was a retired hairdresser and is survived by her husband, the Rev. Felton Wendell Mason of Tunica; a daughter, Shelia Anne Hulsizer of Jackson ville, Ark.; a son, Felton Wendell Mason Jr. of Tunica and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Barker, Dorman Roach, A.D. Fuller, Alfred Davis, Wes Schieder, Nocholas Davis, Robert Stanton and Marty Bailey. Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Bailey, Glen White , Tom Bailey, Harvey Ward, James White and Jimmy Sullivan.

ROBERT CALVIN LEWIS SR.

Funeral services for Robert Calvin Lewis, Sr., 50, of Elaine, Ark., will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oak Grove. Visitation will be at Cox Funeral Home until time of the service and Rosary services were held at 7 p.m. Monday in Cox Chapel.

Mr. Lewis died Feb. 8 at Helena Regional Hospital in Helena, Ark. He was a former resident of Kilbourne and had resided in Elaine, Ark. since 1995, where he was employed as a diesel mechanic with the Corp. of Engineers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandsons. He was preceded in death by his father, J.P. Lewis and a brother, Johnnie Ray Lewis.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy K. Lewis of Elaine, a daughter, Jennifer Byargeon husband David of Oak Grove; a son, Robert C. Lewis, Jr., of Oak Grove; two step-daughters, Amanda and Latasha McCarty of Elaine; a step-son, Randall "Bubba" McCarty of Elaine; two grandsons, Cameron and Christian Byargeon of Oak Grove; his mother, Catherine Lewis of Oak Grove; four sisters, Dianne Smith and husband David of Sterlington, Linda Richard and husband Eugene of Bastrop, Rita Prather of Monroe and Shirley Smith and fiance Doug Wilson of Natchez, Miss.; and a brother, Duane Lewis and wife Sherry of Winnsboro.

Pallbearers will be Robert C. Lewis, Jr., Robert Beard, Chad Prather, James Rinicker, John Pruitt, Glenn Mayeux. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Oxner, Shelby Snowden and David Byargeon.

LUCILLE MORRIS MERCER

Lucille Morris Mercer, born March 28, 1921, died Thursday, May 30, 2002. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert Prince Mercer.

Mrs. Mercer was the mother of two sons, Gerald E. Mercer of Shreveport, and Harry A. Mercer of Bossier City; one daughter, LaJoyce M. Leitz of Panama City, Fla.; two sisters, Nan Bolton of Bastrop, and Florence Murphy of Pine Bluff, Ark.; one brother, Ned Morris of Bastrop. Lucille was the grandmother of six grandchildren and the great-grandmother of five great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will also be held in Bastrop on Sunday, June 2, 2002, at 4 p.m. at the Bastrop Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, 6870 Airport Road in Bastrop.

Lucille was a resident of Bastrop until 1994 when she moved to Florida to live with her daughter. Directing the funeral services will be Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 2403 Harrison Ave., Panama City, Fla. 32405 (850) 763-4694.

HELEN THOMPSON ANDREWS

Funeral services for Helen Thompson Andrews, 75, of Bastrop, were to be held today, Feb. 3, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Golden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Vic Carter officiating, with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Vistitation was held Sunday, Feb. 2, from 5-9 p.m. at Golden Funeral Home.

Mrs. Andrews, a homemaker, is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Andrews Gilstrap of Bastrop and Brenda Andrews Ardito and husband Anthony of West Monroe; five sons, Max Lee Andrews and wife Barbara of Bastrop, Marshall Ricky Andrews and wife Martha of Bastrop, Cleveland Wayne Andrews of Bastrop, Scott Baker Andrews and wife Betty of Bastrop and Gary Kenneth Andrews and wife Terri of Bastrop; ten grandchildren, Keith R. Andrews, M. Randy Andrews, Christopher T. Andrews, Marcus P. Andrews, Tina B. Guice, Kimberly G. Walters, Scott B. Andrews, Brian Kenneth Andrews, Tarah Leigh Collins, and Sarah Elizabeth Collins and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alton Lee Andrews, parents Mittie and Jim Matt Thompson; one son, Thomas Wesley Andrews; 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Pallbearers will be Gary Andrews, Floyd Bonner, Ricky Andrews, Max Andrews, Christopher Andrews, and Marcus Andrews. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

BERNARD BUTLER

Services for Bernard Butler are scheduled for Saturday, March 29, 2003 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Bernard Jones officiating.

Burial will follow at Little Dee Cemetery, Mer Rouge, under the direction of Loche's Mortuary.

REGINALD F. FRENCH JR

Reginald F. French Jr., age 59, of Russellville, Ark. died Saturday, May 31, 2003 at his home. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Friday, June 6, 2003 at Shinn Chapel in Russellville. The body was cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.

MARGARET ANN TIDWELL

Funeral services for Margaret Ann Tidwell, 53, of Bastrop will be held Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Canaan Family Worship Center with the Rev. William Fowler officiating. Burial will follow at Hughes Chapel Cemetery in Beekman under the direction of Golden Funeral Home.

Ms. Tidwell died Monday, Oct. 6 at North Monroe Medical Center. She was an LPN and attended Canaan and Oak Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her father, C.J. Middlebrooks of Bastrop; a son, Jamie Tidwell and wife Stephanie of Bastrop; a brother, Terry Middlebrooks and wife Kay of Bastrop; a sister, Kathy Robinson and husband Ray Jr. of Beekman; one grandchild, Triston Tidwell; and two nephews, Chris and Craig Middlebrooks of Bastrop.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Nettie Middlebrooks; a daughter, Sherry Tidwell; and a brother, C.J. Middlebrooks Jr.

Visitation will be held Wednesday at Canaan Family Worship Center from 5-9 p.m.

ROBERT EDWARD DUTY

Funeral services for Robert Edward Duty, age 74, of Transylvania, will be at 11 a.m. June 5, 2003 at Cox Chapel in Lake Providence with the Rev. Stowe Harbin officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.
