Della Mae Culver, 86, of Jonesboro, LA., died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at Forest Haven Nursing Home. Funeral service was at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 1, 2000 at Edmonds Funeral Home in Jonesboro, with Rev. Gene Cumpton officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mrs. Culver was a homemaker.

She is survived by: one daughter, Linda Chapman and husband Nelson of Commerce, TX. and two sons: Floyd Culver, Jr. of Bienville, LA and Raymond Culver and wife Ruby of Hodge, LA. Nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Pallbearers were: Mike Chapman, Steven Chapman, Kenneth Culver, Terry Culver, Todd Evans, John David Plunkett, Buster Stewart.

Joe Buck New -- Hodge, LA

Joe Buck New 77, of Hodge died Saturday, July 8, 2000 in Jackson Parish Hospital. Funeral services were Tuesday, July 11, 2000 at 9:00 a.m. at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. H. M. Roach officiating. Burial was in Fellowship Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mr. New was an Ammunition Plant Worker and a veteran. Mr. New was preceded in death by one son, Ernest Dale New.

He is survived by his wife Bernice New of Hodge and three daughters, Ruby Jean Elton, Ruthie Marie Garza, all of Sarepta, LA and Nancy Lee Sparks of Benton, LA; two sons Ray Buck New of Sarepta, LA and Roy Vernor New of Atlanta, TX; two sisters Faye Fields of Lake Charles, LA and Lula Waller of Deridder, LA and one brother Homer New of Dallas, TX; ten grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Donnie Cooper, Marty Cooper, Mike Cooper, Bubba Gates, Donny Garza, and Jamie New.

Henrietta Hester -- Chatham, LA

Funeral service of Mrs. Henrietta Hester is to be held at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Chatham, LA. Saturday, July 15, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. Service has been entrusted to Simmons Funeral Home with Rev. J. R. Stringer/Rev. J. Peston Stephens officiating.

She is survived by her husband, Henry (Bud) Hester, two daughters, Lola Jean Hall (Jason) Compton, CA., Peggy Ann Tanzy (Allen) Houston, TX. One son, Henry Hester, Jr. (Archie) Jonesboro, LA; three daughters-in-law, Viola (Tiny) Hester-Chatham, LA, Lois Hester-Monroe, LA, Letha Hester- Washington , D.C. One son-in-law Robert Drayton-Gary, IN. One sister, Pearlie Davis-Chatham, LA. One sister-in-law Essie Into-Chicago, IL. Twenty-six grandchildren, forty-one great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Vivian C. Allen -- Jonesboro, LA

Vivian C. Allen 64, of Jonesboro, LA died Wednesday, June 28, 2000 at her residence. Funeral services were held at Jonesboro Assembly of God on Sunday, June 30, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Paul Bradford officiating. Burial was in Springhill Cemetery in Jonesboro under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mrs. Allen was a bus driver.

Mrs. Allen is survived by her husband, O. K. Allen of Jonesboro; one son, Ricky Allen and wife, Sandra of Weston, LA; one daughter, LaDonna Welch and husband, Greg of West Monroe, LA; two sisters, Pearlie Friday and husband Otto of Bienville, LA, and Mary Ethle Greer of West Monroe, LA; two grandchildren, Jessica and Kyle Allen; and one great grandchild, Jaylan Allen. Pallbearers were David Brown, Bill Burrows, Ricky Lowery, Ray Whitman, Jay Odom, Micheal Whitman. The J. E. and Valarie Willis family will be making a donation to "Relay For Life" the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers in loving memory of Mrs. Allen.

Beatrice Ayres -- Jonesboro, LA

Beatrice Ponder Ayres 60, of Jonesboro, LA died Thursday, June 29, 2000 at LSU Medical Center. Funeral services were Sunday, July 2, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro with Rev. Jackie Hightower officiating. Burial was in Midway Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mrs. Ayres was an Antique Dealer.

Mrs. Ayres is survived by her husband, Tommy R. Ayres of Jonesboro; two sons, John Ayres of New Orleans, LA and Thomas Ayres of Houston, TX; two daughters, Terri Lynn Ayres of Riviera Beach, FL and Lisa Anne LaSala and husband Hector of Lafayette, LA; six sisters, Mable Adams and husband Johnny of Onalaska, TX, Velda Austin and husband Doyle of San Antonio, TX, Benola Robinson and husband Jerry of Jonesboro, LA, Evelyn Templeton of Jonesboro, LA, Louise Tolar and husband Jim of Hodge, LA, and Jo Ellen Guffey and husband Holly of Houston, TX. Three brothers, Edsel Ponder and wife Carolyn of Houston, TX and Homer Ponder and wife June of Ruston, LA and Bill Ponder and wife Nancy of Statesboro, GA. Two grandchildren Isabel and Jesse LaSala of Lafayette, LA.

Pallbearers were Joshua Hunt, Jeremy Hunt, Billy Ray Adams, Larry Allen, Rusty Allen, Sam Ponder, Nathan Ponder, and Paul Ponder her nephews.

Bobby Joe Herndon 58, of Jonesboro died Friday, June 30, 2000 at LSU - E. A. Conway Hospital in Monroe. Funeral services were at Sammon’s Funeral Home Chapel in Somperton, GA at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 3, 2000. Burial was in Shiloah Cemetery in Somperton,GA under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mr. Herndon was a Superintendent. He was preceded in death by one son, Bobby Joe Herndon, Jr. and one stepson, Stoney Hays. He is survived by his wife Debbie Herndon of Jonesboro, LA; two daughters, Angela Bennett of Phoenix, AZ and Brandy Willis and husband Patrick of Quitman, LA; one son, John Thomas Herndon of Jonesboro, LA and one stepson, Clint Hays and wife Rhonda of Jonesboro, LA; one sister, Betty Cummings of Charleston, SC; and his father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Dickinson of Jonesboro, LA.

Theo Butler Weeks 81, of Hammonds, LA died Friday, June 30, 2000 at Belle Masion Nursing Home. Funeral services were Monday, July 3, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at Edmonds Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Cumpton officiating. Burial was in Transport Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mr. Weeks was a bag tender. He is survived by two daughters, Dorothy W. Bramlet and husband Edward of Tickfaw, LA and Melinda Sanchez and husband Frank of West Monroe, LA; two sons, Edward A. Weeks, III and wife Ilse of Augusta, GA and four sisters, Veronie Carroll of Sun, LA, Etiol Graham of West Monroe, LA, Linnie Crayton of Tickfaw, LA, and Ozzie Morgan of Ringold, LA. Pallbearers were Justin McFarland, Frankie Sanchez, Micheal Sanchez, Jimmy Ray Morgan, Ray Ayres, Francisco Sanchez, and Micheal Franklin.

Keith Coleman -- Bienville, LA

Keith Edwin Coleman 27, of Bienville, LA died Sunday, July 2, 2000 at West Monroe, LA. Graveside services were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 4, 2000 in the Old Saline Funeral Home with Rev. Dan McGee officiating. Burial was in Old Saline Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro, LA. Mr. Coleman was a construction electrician. He is survived by his father and mother, William C. and Carolyn Coleman of Danville, LA. One son, Cameron Coleman of Weston, LA and one sister, Heather Coker of Danville, LA. His paternal grandmother, Mary Coleman of Baton Rouge, LA and maternal grandfather, John Fritz of Cedar Lake, IN. and one nephew, Thomas Coker of Danville, LA. Pallbearers were Billy Coleman, C. L. Coleman, Gerald Coleman, Jerry Coleman, Bobby Coker, and Joe Coker.

Burlene M. Smith -- Jonesboro, LA

Burlene M. Smith, 81, of Jonesboro, died October 28, 2000, Saturday, at Jackson Parish Hospital after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000 in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kelly Tingle and Hudey Beaubouef officiating. Burial was in the Henson Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She is survived by: 4 sons, J.C. Black of Fruitvalle, TX, Lonnie Ray Black of Farmerville, LA, Joey Smith of Jonesboro, and Charlie Smith of Ruston; 6 daughters, Audrey Faye Burch of Eros, Mary Alice Springfield of Jonesboro, Vivian Marie Springfield of Jonesboro, Rachel Ann Beaubouef of Jonesboro, April Smith of Swansboro, NC, and Dorothy Horton of Ruston, LA; 3 sisters, Oledia Harper Rolen of West Monroe, LA, Grace Waggoner of West Monroe and Elsie Mae Sales of Seattle, WA; 28 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren and a special nephew J. L. Butler.

Pallbearers were: Grandsons - Richard Springfield, Rickey Springfield, Colin Beaubouef, James Calvin Black, Jr., Butch Springfield, Jason Springfield, Rocky Parker, and Devin Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers: J. L. Butler, Ricky Murphy, and Robert Mosley.

Governor Jimmie H. Davis -- Baton Rouge, LA

Governor Jimmie Davis, 101, of Baton Rouge, LA, died Sunday, November 5, 2000 at his residence in Baton Rouge, LA of natural causes. Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2000 at the Jimmie Davis Tabernacle with Rev. Leon Maxwell officiating. Burial was in the Tabernacle Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro, LA.

Governor Davis was a singer-song writer and a two time former Governor of Louisiana . He is survived by: wife - Anna Carter Davis of Baton Rouge, LA; one son - Jimmie Davis Jr. of Newellton, LA; two step sons - Gregory Gordon of Nashville, TN and Howard Gordon of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; one step daughter - Vickie Owens of Fort Worth, TX; two sisters - Dorothy Black of Phoenix, AZ and Lela Mae King of Webster, TX; one granddaughter - DeCarla Sunshine Netterville and husband Jeff of Natchez, MS; and two great granddaughters - Summer Netterville and Addie Grace Netterville.

Evelyn Welch -- Bernice, LA

Evelyn Ruth McGuire Welch, 66, of Bernice, LA died Sunday, November 5, 2000 at Bernice following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were Tuesday, November 7, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at Weldon Baptist Church with Rev. Neil Everett officiating. Burial was in Weldon Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Bernice. Mrs. Welch is preceded in death by her husband, Donald D. Welch, Sr.

She is survived by: one daughter, Debbie Albritton and husband Ricky of Farmerville; 3 sons, Don Welch, Jr. and wife Alice of Dallas, TX, Dennis Welch and wife Ann of Shreveport, and Danny Welch and wife Judy of Bernice; 2 brothers, Frank McGuire of Shreveport, and Richard McGuire of Plain Dealing; 4 sisters, Jewel Dison of Shreveport, Helen Thompson of Shreveport, Juanita Wade of Montgomery, AL and Rosemary Oh of Los Angeles, CA; 14 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were: Ken Thompson, Dr. John A. Thompson, Tommy Thompson, Daniel Welch, Tommy Welch, Harvey Wade, and Chad Farrar.

Roger Durbin -- Jonesboro, LA

Roger Dale Durbin, 49, of Jonesboro, LA died Monday, October 23, 2000 at LSU Medical Center, after a brief illness. Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2000 in the Calvary Tabernacle Church with Rev. Hayward Hossler and Richard Gray officiating. Burial was in the Antioch Methodist Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mr. Durbin was a florist.

He is survived by: his wife, Linda Durbin; 1 son, Brandon Durbin both of Jonesboro; 1 daughter, Misty Durbin of Winnfield; 3 sisters, Tammy Hawk and Faye Clifton of Jonesboro, and Patricia Thrasher of Saline; 2 brothers, Lonnie Durbin of Danville, and Ricky Durbin of Jonesboro; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Eva Taylor -- Mansfield, LA

Services for Mrs. Eva Rieson Taylor , 89, were held at 11 a.m., Monday, October 30, 2000 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Mansfield and graveside services, under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home of Mansfield at 3 p.m. at Spring Hill Cemetery in Jonesboro, LA with Rev. Michael Montana pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Mansfield officiating. She died on October 27, 2000 at Life Care Hospital in Shreveport, LA after a sudden illness. Mrs. Taylor was a native of Jackson Parish and a former resident of Beaumont, TX. She was also a homemaker.

Mrs. Eva Rieson Taylor is survived by husband, Denzel P. Taylor of Mansfield; son, John Coleman and wife, Joan of Castro Valley, CA; daughter, Billie Graham and husband, Doyle of Mansfield; sisters, Julia Coleman of Jonesboro, Colleen Ponder and husband, Lamar of Hodge, LA and Nell McDaniel and husband, Bill of Jonesboro; brothers, Clifton Rieson of Dodson, LA and Deward Rieson of Winnfield; 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers were Richard Graham, Benny Ponder, Aaron Graham, Van Reech III, Keith Phillips, and Matthew Smith.

Tom Jackson -- Jonesboro, LA

Deacon Tom Jackson , born May 1, 1910, to the late Willie and Effie Jackson . To this union seven children were born of which two sisters, Cibie Hines and Ethel Amos; two brothers, Issac Jackson and A. J. Jackson preceded him in death.

He received Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior in his youth. Tom was a great fisherman; his greatest catch of all was Pauline (Honey) Thomas. They were united in marriage in 1933. He was the father of seven children; Effie Mae Henderson, Jonesboro, LA, Mary Jane Washington of Milwaukee, WI, Lessell Jackson of Jonesboro, LA, Tommy Lee Jackson of Milwaukee, WI, Willie Faye Cleveland of Denver, CO, and Danyaile Spight of Indianapolis, IN. His son Chester preceded him in death.

He owned and operated his own business. He was a Grand Marshall and member of the M. W. Prince Hall Grand Lodge, 7th Star #197 of Jonesboro, LA. A faithful and dedicated member of the New Friendship Baptist Church, he served as Deacon and church treasurer. He was a kindhearted man and a good friend to everyone.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Pauline Jackson of Jonesboro; two sisters, Odessa Bradley of Pasadena, CA and Stella Booker of Altadena, CA; six children, 19 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.

James McKinney -- Angleton, TX

James S. McKinney was born July 13, 1921, in Madison Parish, Louisiana , and died October 20, 2000, at his home in Bailey’s Prairie, TX. He was reared in Gibsland and graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1942. He served in the U. S. Navy and later worked as an engineer at Dow Chemical Co. In 1957 he established a business which in 1968 became McKinney, Inc., and he was active in that company until shortly before his death. He was a long-time member of the Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Doris Mizell McKinney of Bailey’s Prairie, TX, 3 sons, 2 grandsons, 7 granddaughters, and a sister, Marguerite Lucky of Jonesboro, LA. Funeral services were held at the Angleton United Methodist Church on October 23. Burial followed in Angleton Cemetery under the direction of the Palms Funeral Home.

Corrine Barnard -- Quitman, LA

Corrine Loe Barnard, 87, of Quitman, LA, Passed away October 21, 2000 at Glenwood Hospital in West Monroe, following a brief illness. Mrs. Barnard was born January 7, 1913 in Quitman and lived most of her life in that community. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband Harrell Douglas Barnard.

She is survived by 1 son, Charles Buddy Barnard of Baton Rouge; 4 daughters, Francelia Jimmerson and husband John of Dubach, Pat Staggs and husband Sherby of Clay, Jackie Annette Shields of Shreveport, and Mary Nannette Barnard of Jonesboro; 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 great, great grandchild; sister-in-law, Cloma Guinn Loe of West Monroe, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held at Owens Funeral Home in Ruston Monday, October 23, 2000. A graveside memorial service, conducted by Rev. Jimmy Pyles, Superintendent, Ruston District, United Methodist Church Conference, was held Thursday, October 26, 2000 at 11 a.m. at Antioch Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery in Quitman. The family has requested that memorials be made to the American Heart Association or to other charitable organization or church of personal choice.

Audrey Worley -- Readhimer, LA

Mrs. Audrey Faye Dill Worley, 57, Readhimer, LA, died Saturday, October 28, 2000 at Glenwood Medical Center of West Monroe, LA of natural causes. Funeral services were Monday, October 30, 2000 at 2 p.m. at Briarwood Baptist Church of Readhimer with Rev. V. L. Montgomery officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Chestnut, LA under the directions of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Mrs. Worley is survived by her husband, Bob E. Worley of Readhimer; 1 son, Robert L. Worley II of Lexington, KY; 3 brothers, John Dill of Shreveport, Steven Dill of Readhimer, and James C. Dill of Goldonna; 1 sister, Doris J. Dill of Readhimer and stepfather, Leonard G. Choate of Readhimer. Pallbearers were: Doyle (Bud) Newmons, Daniele Folden, Jerry Usrey, J. W. Speir, S. N. Johnson , and J. R. Davis.
