Ronald David Gryder "Buddy", 56, of Eros, LA, died Tuesday, September 26, 2000 at Eros, LA after a sudden illness. Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 28, 2000 in the Reorganized Latter Day Saints Church. Burial was in Williams Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mr. Gryder was a Construction carpenter.

He is survived by his mother, Beatrice Gryder of Eros, LA; 2 sisters, Sue Bailey of Eros and Wanda Taylor of Chatham; 4 brothers, Tim Gryder, Bobby Gryder, and George Gryder all of Eros and Greg Gryder of Tampa, FL. A special friend, Gail Sanderson of Eros, LA and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Gordia Austin -- San Antonio, TX

Gordia Doyle Austin, 63, of San Antonio, TX was born November 29, 1936, at Hodge, LA to Alva and Gracie Austin and Passed away Monday, September 25, 2000. Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2000 at Hope Center in San Antonio, TX with Pastor Paul M. Chance officiating and a graveside service was at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2000 at Hodge Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

He is survived by his mother, Gracie Austin of Jonesboro, LA; his wife, Velda Ponder Austin of San Antonio, TX; 3 sons, Robert Austin and wife Josie, Timmy Austin and wife Deborah, and Joel Austin and wife Melynda all of San Antonio, TX; 1 sister, Colleen Odenbaugh and husband Lee Roy of Bastrop, LA; 2 brothers, Don Austin and wife Joyce of Clinton, MS and Gary Austin and wife Peggy of Bentley, LA; and 8 grandchildren.

Mr. Austin retired from the U. S. Army and from the U. S. Immigration Service. He served with distinction in Vietnam. He was a Real Estate Broker and an Antique Dealer.

Vennie Everett -- Jonesboro, LA

Vennie Everett, 84, of Jonesboro, LA, was born March 3, 1916 in MS and Passed away Saturday, September 23, 2000 at Forest Haven Nursing Home. Graveside services were at Oak Grove Cemetery Sunday, September 24, 2000 at 4:00 p.m. in Stamps, AR with Bro. Brandon Teague officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mrs. Everett was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband J. L. Everett and a daughter Claudine Teague. She is survived by one son John Everett and wife Linda of Jonesboro, LA. and seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Isabel Shows -- Topeka, Kansas

Isabel Delgado Shows, 88, of Topeka, KS formerly of Guatemala City, Guatemala. was born August 9, 1912 Passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2000 at a Topeka care home of natural causes. She attended schools in Guatemala City, Guatemala and the Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Topeka. She married James Eustace Shows on April 12, 1947, in Guatemala City, Guatemala. He preceded her in death on December 16, 1989. Mrs. Shows was cremated. Private graveside services will be at Ebenezer Cemetery, Jonesboro, LA. under the direction of Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka.

She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Arriola of Madison, WI, two sons, Randy Shows of Kansas City, MO and Bob Shows of Berryton, KS, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. The family requests memorial contributions be to The Helping Hands Humane Society, sent in care of Davidson Funeral home, 1035 N. Kansas, Topeka, KS 66608.

James Knox -- Baton Rouge, LA

James Collins Knox, 60, of Baton Rouge, LA formerly of Jonesboro, LA was born May 29, 1940 Passed away Friday, September 22, 2000 at the Baton Rouge General Medical Center. He was a U. S. Air Force Veteran. Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. at Sweet Home Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Hosea Williams, Jr. interment in Shady Grove Cemetery.

He is survived by two sisters, Leana Knox Coleman and Sylvia Knox Barnes; one brother, Wilton G. Knox; two brothers-in-law, Edward Barnes, Sr. and Joseph Doyle Jr.; mother-in-law, Ola Doyle; four sisters-in-law, Georgia M. Knox, Glenda Doyle, Gloria Horner, and Nelvin Jones; a very special first cousin, Rosie Anna "Baby" Williams, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers, one sister and brother-in-law.

Vera Terry -- Jonesboro, LA

Vera Christine Terry, 58, of Jonesboro, LA, died Sunday, September 17, 2000 at L.S.U. Medical Center, after a short illness. Funeral services were at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Jinks officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mrs. Terry was a housewife.

She is survived by: 1 son, Joey Terry of Calhoun, LA; 3 daughters, Brenda Rankin of West Monroe, LA, Marie Bailey of Quitman, LA, and Eva Justice of West Monroe, LA; 1 sister, Velma Daigre of Jonesboro, LA; 5 brothers, Jay Dye of Georgia, Buddy Dye of Florida, Carl Dye of Ruston and Billy Gene Dye of Texas ; 10 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Pallbearers were: Danny Bell, Chris Warren, Donny Dye, Daniel Cotton, Troy Cotton, George Stroud.

Lee Thompson -- Jonesboro, LA

Lee Thompson (Ivy), 72, of Jonesboro, LA was born October 21, 1927 in Jena, LA and Passed away Sunday, September 17, 2000 at his residence. Funeral services were at the Jonesboro United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 19, 2000 with Rev. Roy Bryan Moore, Rev. Gene Compton, and Dr. Herb Dickerson officiating. Burial was in Gayla Traina Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro, LA.

Mr. Thompson was a Retired Funeral Director and a veteran. Mr. Thompson was a member of Jonesboro United Methodist Church, The Jonesboro-Hodge Kiwanis Club and he was a Mason and a Shriner. He graduated from Jena High School and the St. Louis College of Mortuary Science. He was retired from and former owner of Edmonds Funeral Home in Jonesboro, LA. He was an Army Veteran of World War II.

He is survived by: his wife, Shirley Thompson of Jonesboro; 1 daughter, Terry Kohler and husband Glynn of Lake Charles, LA; 1 son, David Thompson and wife Velma of Jonesboro; 2 sisters, Judy Small of Paducah, KY and Lou Taylor of Deville, LA; 2 grandsons, Brad Kohler of Lake Charles, LA and Kimble Lee Thompson of Jonesboro, LA. Pallbearers were: J.H. Byrd, Joey Earle, Eddie Gatlin, Kent McBride, Johnny Mac Schmidt, M.H. Walker, Eddie Walpole, Richard Zuber.

Nonnie Koonce -- Bossier City, LA

Nonnie Cathrine Koonce, 94, of Bossier City, LA was born March 9, 1906 in Cullman, AL and Passed away Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000 at Pilgrim Manor North. Graveside services were at 11:00 a.m. at Old Saline Cemetery Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000 with Bro. Calvin Hubbard officiating. Burial was in Old Saline Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mrs. Koonce was a sales clerk. She is survived by 1 sister, Dorothy W. Allison of Bossier City, LA and a host of nieces and nephews.

Lyndon Kirkham -- Saline, LA

Services for Lyndon Randyl Kirkham, age 21, were held at 10 a.m. Friday, September 1, 2000, at First Baptist Church, Bienville, LA, with Reverends Freddie Shows and Calvin Hubbard officiating. Burial was in Liberty Hill Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, Jonesboro, LA.

Lyndon Passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2000, at L.S.U. Medical Center, Shreveport, LA, following injuries sustained in a four-wheeler accident. He was employed by the La. Department of Transportation and Development, Bridge Maintenance, District 4.

Lyndon was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Douglas D. "Papa" Durbin.

Survivors include his parents: Randy and Teresa Kirkham of Saline,LA; one sister, Lauren Kirkham of Saline, LA; maternal grandmother, Pauline Durbin, Gansville, LA; paternal grandparents, Loyle "Rip" and Mildred Kirkham, Bienville, LA; paternal uncles and aunt, Robert Kirkham, Bienville, LA; James "Uncle Bubba" Kirkham and wife Dinah, Bienville, LA; maternal uncles and aunts, David and Linda Durbin, Shreveport, LA; Mike and Deanna "Nanner" Page, Woodlands, TX; Thomas and Brenda Shively, Jonesboro, LA; Russell Durbin, Gansville, LA; Randy and Nelda Shows, Jonesboro, LA; cousins: Craig and Brian Durbin, Shreveport, LA; Dr. Lisa Rowland and son- Patrick, Houston, TX; Michael Page and wife Kim, Houston, TX; Mitchell Page, Boulder, CO; Matthew Page , Nashville, TN; Jason and Jacob Shively, Jonesboro, LA; Jon Durbin, Houston, TX; Lindsey Thomisee, husband Rodney and son Drew, Saline, LA; Rodney Shows and wife Leslie, Jonesboro, LA; Leann Shows, Jonesboro, LA.

Pallbearers were: Butch Dison, Todd Moreau, David Wallace, Casey Rogers, Mike Lowe, and Rusty Pruitt.

Honorary Pallbearers were: Joey Blewer, Therman Sewell, Nathan Marks, Nathan Brown, Brenden Mauthe, Rob Mangham, Jacob Barron, Jarrod Toms, Nick Wafer, Dugie Murphy, Jeremy Mitchell, Casey Allen, and Clay Toms.

Frances Tannehill -- Winnfield, La

Frances Moore Tannehill, 90, of Winnfield, LA born October 16, 1909 and died Wednesday, September 6, 2000 at Winn Medical Center. Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 8, 2000 at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Calvin Phelps officiating. Burial was in Winnfield City Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Frances Georgianna Allen of Winnfield; one son, George Murphy Tannehill of Shreveport; one sister, Margaret Thomas of Chatham; one sister-in-law, Sue Moore of Houston, TX; and three grandchildren, George Murphy Tannehill Jr., Nathaniel Reed Tannehill, and Adrienne Marietta Tannehill.

Pallbearers were: B. R. Audirsch, Andre Derr, Buddy Heard, Richard Heard, Matt Milam, Otis Peterson, Dennis Shell.

Mildred Toms -- Bienville, LA

Mildred Sample Toms, 88, was born June 3, 1912 and Passed away Saturday, September 9, 2000 at Parkview Guest Care Center. Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 12, 2000 at Old Saline Baptist Church with Rev. Stuart Toms and Rev. Warren Maxwell officiating. Burial was in Old Saline Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mrs. Toms was a homemaker.

She is survived by 5 daughters, Sue Blalock and husband Charles of Quitman, Jean Bryant and husband Drew of Shreveport, Martha Duck and husband Robert of Saline, Wilma Lewter and husband Ernie of Jonesboro, and Shirley Thomas and husband Wayne of Saline; 4 sons, Curtis Randell Toms and wife Jean, of Las Vegas, NV, Don Toms and wife Ann of Saline, Millard Doyle (Butch) Toms and wife Nancy of Anchorage, AK, and Murry Toms Jr. and wife Fredia of Saline; 3 sisters, Azalea Smith, Wilma Teichman both of Galveston, TX, and Louise Thomas of Pineville, LA; 1 sister-in-law Virginia Toms Rhodes and husband Leland of Saline and 1 brother-in-law, E.R. Toms and wife Johnnie of Saline; 36 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Her grandsons served as pallbearers.

Trudie Bullock -- Arcadia, LA

Trudie Lorraine Bullock, 87, of Arcadia, LA, born September 22, 1912 Passed away Sunday, September 10, 2000 at the Baptist Retirement Center in Arcadia. Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2000 at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel in Jonesboro with Rev. C.D. Miles and Rev. Dennis Anger officiating. Burial was at Walnut Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by 3 sons, Alvie Lee Bullock of Bossier City, Grover Bullock and wife Barbara of Phoenix, AZ, and Herbert Dewey Bullock and wife Sarah of Rupert, ID; 2 daughters, Bonnie Meek and husband James of Minden and Grace Wilson and husband Joe of Monroe; 1 brother, Earl Brown of Jonesboro; 4 sisters, Corine Clifton of Winnfield, Lena Kennimer of Argyle, TX, Gladys Parkhill of Denton, TX, Audrey Quarles of Cullen; 18 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.

Grandsons, son-in-laws, and nephews served as pallbearers.

Calvin Curry -- Kilgore, TX

Calvin Ray Curry, 61, of Kilgore, TX died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000 at Kilgore after a brief illness. Funeral services were Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at Antioch Presbyterian Church, Quitman, LA with Marvin Denton officiating. Burial was in Quitman Presbyterian Cemetery under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Curry was a Foreman at a Ceramic Manufacturing Plant. He is preceded in death by Tay Martin of Arcadia, LA.

Survivors include William and Francis Curry of Winona, TX and Odessa Curry Martin of Arcadia, LA.; nine brothers, W.E. (Bud) Curry, Jr. of Denver, CO., Harry Curry of Pasadena, TX., J.P. Curry of Arcadia, LA., Charles Curry of Kilgore, TX., Danny Curry of West Monroe, LA., Bobby Curry of Dallas, TX., Clyde Whitlock of Winona, TX., Frank Whitlock of Prichard, TX., and Steve Martin of Seal Beach, CA.; 3 sisters, Pam (Sissy) Petty of Kilgore, TX., Shirley Denton of Quitman, LA., and Beverly Henry of West Monroe, LA. Numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Edwin C. Moore -- Longmont, CO

Edwin C. Moore, 81, was born June 12, 1919 in Quitman, LA and Passed away Friday, September 1, 2000 in Longmont United Hospital, Longmont , CO. Memorial Service was Tuesday, September 5, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel with Reverend James Johnston of the First Pentecostal Church UBC officiating.

Cremation was at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory under the direction of Alhberg Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. of Longmont, CO Mr. Moore was a welder and during a 35 year career he worked for Eaton Metals, the Rocky Mountain Arsenal, Rocky Flats and for 15 years at IBM, Boulder. He retired in 1981. He was a member of the Army Air Corps, and stationed at Lowry Air Base in Denver, CO during WWII. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Moore moved to Denver following marriage and to Longmont in 1962. He enjoyed golf and oil painting. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Lucy (Carroll) Moore and one sister and two half-sisters.

He is survived by: his wife, Elda Mae Hudson Moore of Longmont, CO; 2 sons, Alan Moore and his wife Gail of Milliken, CO and David Moore and his wife Tannis of Fairmont, NE; and 3 grandchildren, Sean Moore, Caitlin Moore, and Sally Moore.

The family request donations to be made to a Charity of Donor’s choice.

Willie M. Driggers -- Montgomery, LA

Mrs. Willie Melton Driggers, 88, of Montgomery, LA was born September 19, 1912 and Passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2000 at Willis Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport, LA. Funeral services were at 12:00 noon, Friday, September 1, 2000 at Old Saline Baptist Church in Saline with Rev. Gerry Martin officiating. Burial was in the Old Saline Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield, LA. Mrs. Driggers was a housewife and member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband: John W. Driggers; 1 sister: Kathlene Teddlie and 1 brother: J.W. Bazar. She is survived by: 5 sisters; Mrs. Lois Drewett and Mrs. Evalene Rogers of Alexandria, LA, Ms. Betty Dick of Keithville, Mrs. Creola Grace Fletcher of LaPorte, TX, and Mrs. Jimmie Floriece Heminger of Boyce, LA: and 2 brothers; Rev. Huey H. Bazar of Lone Star, TX and Rev. Rufus Issac Bazar of Miltonvale, KS.

Lovie Worthington -- Sulphur, LA

Lovie Bridges Worthington, Sulphur, LA, formerly from Hodge, LA, Passed away Saturday, September 2, 2000, at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Lake Charles, LA after a brief illness. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 3, 2000 in Robison Chapel under the direction of Robison’s Funeral Home in Sulphur, LA with Rev. Ron Sherer officiating.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Randall Worthington, her parents, 3 children, 3 sisters, Vera Mathews, Vada Pate, and Alta Mae Folks, and a brother, Rev. James Bridges. She is survived by 2 daughters, Avis and husband, Russell Theriot and Dewanna and husband, Ray Kebodeaux, a sister, Verda Bailey, and a brother, William Bridges, 5 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
