Mildred Kelley, 72, of West Monroe, LA, died Thursday, January 25, 2001 at St. Francis Regional Medical Center after a short illness. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday January 27, 2001 in the Ruston Latter Day Saints Church. Burial was in the Ruston Latter Day Saints Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mrs. Kelley was a homemaker.

She is survived by: 1 son, Billy W. Kelly and wife, Tricia Ann of West Monroe, LA; 3 daughters, Theresa Lee & husband, John of Belton, MO , Rosa Lee Houd Ashelt of Eros, LA, and Beverly Boyd & husband John of West Monroe, LA; 3 sisters, Effie Delacerda of West Monroe, LA, Mary Varner of Calhoun, LA, Judy May of West Monroe, LA; 3 brothers, Charlie Roberts of Keatchie, LA, Dewitt Owens of West Monroe, LA and Jackie Roberts of Charlotte, NC; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandchildren; and other friends & relatives.

Gracie Austin -- Hodge, LA

Gracie Lee Austin, 94, of Hodge, LA, was born August 19, 1906 in Endom, LA and died Friday, January 26, 2001 at Cherry Ridge Guest Care Center. Funeral services were Sunday, January 28, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at Hodge United Pentecostal Church in Hodge with Rev. Jeff Stroud officiating. Burial was in Hodge Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro, LA. Mrs. Austin was a bag machine operator. Mrs. Austin was preceded in death by her husband, Gordia Alva Austin, infant twins, Robert Dean and Doris Jean Austin and son, Doyle Austin, three brothers, Ross, T. P., and William Higdon.

Survivors include: Son, Donald Austin of Clinton, MS; Son, Gary Austin of Bentley, LA; Daughter, Colleen Odenbaugh of Bastrop, LA; Daughter-in-law, Velda Austin of San Antonio, TX; Sister-in-law, Martiel Edwards of Memphis, TN; Sister-in-law, Lucille Truelove of Heflin, LA; 12 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 7 step great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild. Pallbearers: Darrell Austin, Joel Austin, Robert Austin, Russell Austin, Shannon Austin, Timothy Austin, and Roy Odenbaugh.

Ludie Crawford -- Hodge, LA

Ludie Christine Crawford, 68, of Hodge, LA was born January 25, 1933 in Homer, LA and went to be with the Lord Thursday, January 25, 2001. Mrs. Crawford was a resident of Jonesboro-Hodge for many years. Graveside services were Saturday, January 27, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. at Hurricane Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.

She is survived by: 6 sons, Roy Dale Crawford & wife, Donna Jean, Jimmy Lee Crawford & wife, Linda, Bobby Wayne Crawford, Johnny Crawford & wife, Gloria, Ronnie Crawford & wife, Jennifer, Donnie Crawford; 3 daughters, Barbara Meyer & husband, Donald, Joanne Crawford, Brenda Neal & husband, Everett; 4 brothers, Floyd Nicks Glenn, Candy Lee Glenn, Fred Glenn, Jr., Robert Lee Glenn; 2 sisters, Mary Ann Delouere and Betty Smith; 26 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Jasper Alton Crawford; 1 son, James Wayne Crawford; parents, Fred Ernest Glenn, Sr. & Maggie Jeannibell Glenn; 2 brothers, Lloyd Glenn and Frank Glenn and 3 sisters, Ruby Berry, Joyce Lee Flowers and Gladys May.

Basil H. Conn -- Jonesboro, LA

Basil H. Conn, 87, of Jonesboro was born January 23, 1914 in Chatham, LA and died Sunday, January 28, 2001 at Healthsouth North La. Rehab Hospital. Funeral services were Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Rev. Marty Wright and Rev. Truman Leach officiating. Burial was at Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mr. Conn was a Boiler Maker at Continental Can Company and an Army Veteran. Mr. Conn was preceded in death by one son, Tommy Conn.

He is survived by: his wife, Margaret Conn of Jonesboro, LA; 3 daughters, Sandra Hale and husband, Duane of El Dorado, AR, Nancy Harberson and husband Dennis of Ruston, LA, and Eileen Taylor and husband Jack of Jonesboro; 1 brother, Truett Conn and wife Jo Layne of El Dorado, AR; 1 daughter-in-law, Debbie Conn Parker of Jonesboro; 8 grandchildren, Danielle Nordone & husband Jeff, Shane Hale and wife Jill, David Conn, Carrie Taylor , Ashley Conn, Brooke Hale, Lindsey Harberson & Wesley Hale; and 1 great granddaughter, Carley Hale.

Pallbearers were: David Conn, Shane Hale, Wesley Hale, Jeff Nordone, Joey Womack, and Joseph Womack. Honorary pallbearers were the Deacons of the Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Doris Hays -- Jonesboro, LA

Services for Doris Smith Hays was held at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, January 25, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. John Charles and Bro. Stuart Toms officiating. She was born on November 14, 1921 in Saline, LA. After graduating from Saline High School, she attended Normal College and Dodd College.

She married William Dewell Hays on March 28, 1942. She worked for the Jackson Parish Police Jury and enjoyed serving as a Pink Lady at the Jackson Parish Hospital. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro until her illness. She enjoyed fishing, traveling, and activities with her family. Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hattie Frye and A. D. Smith; brothers, A. D. , Don, and Jack Smith; and sisters Lela Maude Fuller, Billie Daughenbaugh, Delane Hickman, and infant sister Christine.

She leaves these to cherish her memory: Her husband of 58 years, William Dewell Hays; a son, Ronnie Hays and wife Sandra of Shreveport, LA; two daughters, Dianne Turner and husband Curtis of Shreveport, LA and Helen Koonce and husband Roy of Quitman, LA; 6 grandchildren, Chad McFearin and wife Deanna of Quitman, Marla Fry and husband Jamie of Madison, MS, Stacy Walb and husband Kevin stationed in England, Kevin Hays of Shreveport, Kevin Koonce and wife Amanda Koonce of Quitman, and Keith Koonce of Quitman; and ten great grandchildren, Macey and Maggie McFearin, Anna Fry, Morgan Hays, and Sara and Brandon Walb, and Klay, Chelsea, Brittany, and Bradley Koonce all of Quitman, LA.

The family requested in lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro or your favorite charity. Special thanks go to Dr. Owens, the nursing staff at Lincoln General Hospital, and the nurses of ICU.

Carolyn Franklin -- Jonesboro, LA

Carolyn Pepper Franklin, 61, of Jonesboro, LA died Friday, January 26, 2001 in Shreveport, LA following a sudden illness. Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2001 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Malcolm Self officiating. Burial was at Centuries Memorial Park in Shreveport, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Franklin was a retired Caddo parish school teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband Perry M. Franklin, father Walter Pepper, and nephew Wade Childress.

She is survived by:

Step-daughter; Karen "Lynn" Davis and husband Bill of Shreveport, LA; 2 step-sons, Scottie Franklin and wife Patsy of Shreveport, LA and Darryl Franklin of Shreveport, LA; mother, Irene Pepper of Jonesboro, LA; sister, Kathryn Childress and husband, M. B. of Benton, LA; brother, R. Bethard Pepper and wife Zena Bell of West Monroe, LA; 2 nieces, Dawn Britt and husband Dale of Haughton, LA and Shawn Alexander and husband Greg of Haughton, LA; nephew, Rober Pepper of West Monroe, LA; 4 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were:

Dale G. Britt, Greg Alexander, Robert Pepper, John W. Savage, Ray Roush, and J. P. Duke.

Winnifred Gayle Hammons -- Jonesboro, LA

Winnifred Gayle Hammons, 56, of Jonesboro, LA, was born May 23, 1944 in Hodge, LA and died Friday, March 23, 2001 in Huey P. Long Medical Center. Funeral services were Sunday, March 25, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Terry Mims officiating. Burial was in Driskill Mountain Cemetery in Bienville, LA under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home. Miss Hammons was disabled. She was preceded in death by her father, Ruebin Hammons.

She is survived by: her mother, Mary Alice Hamm Gandy of Jonesboro, LA; 4 stepbrothers, Jackie Gandy and wife, Linda of Iowa, LA, James Gandy and wife Sheree of Jonesboro, LA, Jeff Gandy of Highpoint, NC and Joey Gandy of Jonesboro, LA; 1 brother, Ronnie Hammons of Canon City, CO; and a host of loved ones and friends. Pallbearers were: James Gandy, Joey Gandy, Bud Hammons, Chip Hammons, Jerry Smith, and Scotty Smith.

Roberta Harvey -- Ruston, LA

Roberta Lee Harvey, 94, of Ruston, LA, was born March 14, 1907 in Jonesboro, LA and died Monday, March 26, 2001 in Lincoln General Hospital. Funeral services were Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at Sweet Water Baptist Church with Rev. Stuart Toms officiating. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home. Mrs. Harvey was a retired teacher and owner of W. H. Harvey Ham House for 25 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. H. Harvey, and parents, C. D. "Tack" Moffett and Josie Stovall Moffett, and seven brothers and five sisters.

She is survived by: 1 daughter, Barbara Denton and husband, Dan of Ruston, LA; 2 sisters, Thelma Harville of Quitman, LA and Irene Pepper of Jonesboro, LA; 1 step grandchild, Cindy Hallack of Baton Rouge, LA; and 2 step great grandchildren, Daniel Jack and Maggie Jack of Baton Rouge, LA. Pallbearers were: Billy Joe Bagwell, Eddie Wayne Harvey, Roy Glen McGrew, Bethard Pepper, Gilbert Pickens, and Waylon Savage.

Ricky Smyth -- Jonesboro, LA

Ricky John Smyth, 45, of Jonesboro, LA, was born April 25, 1955 in Denver, CO and died Monday, March 19, 2001 in Jackson Parish Hospital. Graveside services were in Hodge Cemetery Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Alton Peel officiating and under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mr. Smyth was a truck driver. She is survived by her mother, Hazel Smyth of Jonesboro, LA; and a host of aunts & cousins. Pallbearers were: D. J. Allen, Burl Brashear, Jr., Bobby Caskey, Hope Meeks, Troy Smith, and Trae Brashear.

Mickel Moffett -- Quitman, LA

Mickel Vincent Moffett, 49, of Quitman, LA, was born June 6, 1951 in Jonesboro, LA and died Wednesday, March 21, 2001 in Lincoln General Hospital in Ruston. Graveside services were at Antioch Cemetery at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 23, 2001, with Bro. Larry Chapman officiating under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mickel was a Navy veteran and a truck driver.

He is survived by: his step father, P. C. Thomas of Ruston, LA; 1 daughter, Sonya Michelle Langley and husband, Michael of Minden, LA; 1 son, Michael Wayne Moffett of Minden, LA; 2 sisters, Tanya Carter of Homer, LA and Lisa Robison of Ruston, LA; 2 brothers, Rickey Thomas and Ronnie Thomas of Ruston, LA; 2 granddaughters, Cassie Langley and Kristen Moffett of Haughton, LA; and girlfriend, Marie Bailey and daughter Amanda Bailey of Quitman, LA.

Allie Aulds Lamb -- Ruston, LA

Allie Florine Aulds Lamb, 81, of Ruston, LA, was born October 31, 1919 in Choudrant, LA and died Friday, March 23, 2001 at Longleaf Care Center. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. at New Life Assembly of God in Ruston, LA with Bro. John Trotter officiating. Burial was in Sibley Cemetery in Choudrant, LA under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Mrs. Lamb was a beautician, a member of New Life Assembly o God in Ruston and was a former member of Hodge Assembly of God and a beautician in Hodge for a number of years. She is survived by: 1 sister, Bea Couch and husband, Luther of Choudrant; 1 granddaughter, Theresa Lofton and husband Kevin of Spring, TX. Pallbearers were: Gene (Shorty) Aulds, Durwood Chandler, Ron DeSimone, Ronnie DeSimone, Will Jones and Curry Kennerly.

Meredith Sumner -- Longview, TX

Meredith "Pete" Sumner, 94, of Longview, TX was born November 7, 1906 in Winnfield, LA and died Sunday, March 18, 2001 in Good Shepherd Medical Center. Graveside services were at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at Harmony Grove Cemetery in Dodson, LA with Rev. Bill Peterson officiating and under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro, LA.

Mrs. Sumner was a retired sales clerk. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. J. W. Faith; husband, Kermit Sumner; and 2 sons, Charles H. Boyette and Thurman K. Boyette. She is survived by: 1 daughter, Norma Peck and husband Don of Longview, TX; 1 sister, Elaine Farmer of Kirbyville, TX; 2 grandchildren, Sharon Lacey and husband Volker Ruckgaber of Denton, TX and Steve Lacey and wife Millie of Longview, TX. Pallbearers were: Steve Lacey, Odie Castillo, Henry Lee Julian, Don Peck, Volker Ruckgaber, and Larry Wallace.

Ida Addie Stovall -- Jonesboro, LA

Ida Addie Stovall, 91, of Jonesboro, LA was born December 11, 1909 in Natchitoches, LA and died Monday, March 19, 2001 in Jackson Parish Hospital. Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2001 at Jonesboro United Methodist Church with Rev. Roy Bryan Moore officiating. Burial was in Jonesboro Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mrs. Stovall was a retired office manager of the Federal Government.

She is survived by: 1 daughter, Beverly Stovall Bishop of Groves, TX; 2 brothers Frank Joffrion of Charlotte, NC and Rev. A. E. Joffrion of Huntsville, AL; 1 grandson, Stuart Bishop of Port Neches, TX; 2 granddaughters, Monica Wells of Sour Lake, TX and Suzanne Wiersig of San Antonio, TX; 6 great grandchildren, Jacob & Madeline Wiersig, Cody & Lyndi Wells, and Andy & Nicky Bishop. Funeral services were at 10:00 AM, Friday, March 16, 2001, in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Stuart Toms & Joey Bignar officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Olive East Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro, LA. Mr. Buchan was a bag mill adjuster.

He is survived by: 2 sons, Wayne Buchan & wife, Martha of Hodge and Roger Buchan & wife, Dianne of Quitman; 1 daughter, Judy Pepper & husband, Jimmy of Jonesboro; 1 brother, Troye Buchan of Jonesboro; 1 sister: Dessie Mae Raspberry of Jonesboro, LA; 8 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were: Brad Buchan, Shannon Casper, Richard Buchan, Michael Buchan, B. J. Wright, and Keith Stephens.

Services for Mrs. Yvonne P. Sawyer, 75, of West Monroe, LA were at 10 AM, Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel, West Monroe, with Rev. Karl Klaus officiating. interment will be in Siloam Springs Cemetery, Wyatt, LA at 1 PM on Wednesday under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA. Mrs. Sawyer was born in Wyatt, LA on June 19, 1925 and died Sunday, March 11, 2001 at her residence in West Monroe. Mrs. Sawyer was retired co-founder of Sawyer Plastics.

Survivors are her husband, Bill Sawyer, Sr.; and son, Bill Sawyer, Jr. and wife, Debbie, all of West Monroe; two daughters, Heidi J. Sawyer-Clark and husband, Kevin A. Clark of Chapel Hill, NC; Becky S. Savage and husband, Keith of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Helen Bryan of Hodge, and Johnnie Peevy of Jonesboro, LA; three grandchildren, Michael Sawyer, Bradley Sawyer, and Jennifer Sawyer. Funeral services were at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Stuart Toms and Kevin Jones officiating. Burial was in the Gayla Traina Cemetery in Jonesboro, LA under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mrs. Jones was a housewife.

She is survived by: 1 daughter, Dorothy Rasbury and husband Harvey of Houston, TX; 4 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were: Clay Rasbury, Curtis Rasbury, James Robbins, Sr., Bobby Vail, Dickie Vail, Joe Vail, and Tim Hines.
