Harvey
Johnnie Harvey, 80
Funeral services for Johnnie Mae Donaldson Jones Harvey, 80, of Jonesboro were held May 3 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Loyd Sowers and Robert Tyler officiating. Burial followed at the Jonesboro Cemetery.
Mrs. Harvey died April 30 at Lincoln General Hospital.
Born Aug. 1, 1921 in Florene, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Harvey is survived by her husband, Theron Harvey of Jonesboro; daughter, Carolyn Davis of Jonesboro; sons, Tom Jones of Jonesboro, Bobbie Jones of Ruston and Jim Jones of Quitman; stepson David L. Harvey of Ruston; sister, Mary Pope of Jeanerette; and 14 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Dalton Cruise, Charlie Dale Donaldson, Danny Maxwell, Eddie Maxwell, Jerry Maxwell and Jackie Houck.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Harvey
Preston Harvey, 74
Preston “Pete” Lambert Harvey, 74, born Oct. 9, 1928 in Quitman Passed away at his home on April 28, 2002. Preston was a devoted Christian and beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. His presence, gentle smile, kind words and hardy laugh will truly be missed.
Preston served proudly in the United States Navy from 1948 until 1952, aboard the U.S.S. Dixie AD-14. He retired from the Houston Port Authority after 25 years of service in 1993. He was a member of ILA Local No. 1530 for 26 years and in 1994 was awarded an honorary lifetime membership.
Preston had achieved his 32 as a Scottish Rite Freemason and was a member of the Northshore Lodge No. 1353.He attended the Market Street Baptist Church.
Preston is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Marguriete Harvey; his devoted children, Marilyn Kay Allen and Richard Lambert Harvey; adoring grandchildren, Tivona Laverne Watson, Preston Ryan Harvey, Brittany Nicole Harvey; and one great-grandchild, Gianna Francesca Watson; two caring sisters, Mary Elinor Burnum and Frances Sisemore; and many dear friends.
He will be truly missed.
Funeral services were held May 1 in the chapel of the Howard-Glendale Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill McMillin officiating. interment was held May 3 in the Antioch Cemetery in Jonesboro under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Henson
Glenn Henson, 68
Funeral services for Glenn Miles Henson, 68, of Eros were held May 1 at the Lapine Assembly of God in West Monroe with the Revs. Charles Tolbird and Mildred Lenard officiating. Burial followed in the Lapin Church Cemetery.
Mr. Henson died April 29 at his home after a sudden illness.
He was a television repairman.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Henson of Chatham; sons, George Henson and wife Cheryl of Ruston and Tim Henson and wife Lorrie of Eros; daughter, Katherine Henson of Chatham; and five grandchildren, Whitney, Chad, Brad, Hunter and Madison.
Pallbearers were Denver Bailey, Mark Bailey, Tony Dowdy, Wayne Waggoner, Ronnie Massey and Glen Barner.
Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Kelly
William Kelly, 64
Funeral services for William L. “Bo” Kelly, 64, of Winnfield were held May 3 at the Jonesboro Cemetery with the Rev. Kenneth Stanfill officiating.
Mr. Kelly died May 1 at Winn Medical Center.
Born April 9, 1938 in Hodge, Mr. Kelly was a retired postman and a veteran of the United States Army.
He is survived by his wife, Bess Kelly of Winnfield; son, Dr. Bill Kelly and wife Hillary of Las Vegas, Nevada; and daughter, Dr. Kathryn Kelly of Alexandria.
Honorary pallbearers include all past and present Post Office employees.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Smith
V. Ardis Smith, 90
Services for the Rev. Ardis Smith, 90, were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Quitman. Burial followed in the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery with the Revs. Malcolm Self, H.M. Roach and J.D. Morris officiating.
Rev. Smith died May 5 at the Jackson Parish Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Brother Ardis was a Baptist minister for over 60 years in Louisiana . He was known as a shepherd of his people and for is love of the Lord. He especially worked well with the young people by starting youth camps. Brother Ardis also influenced youth as a teacher, including the Acadia Baptist Academy in Eunice, La. for ministerial students. In his youth he was the area missionary of the Jackson Parish Association and founded churches including Fellowship Baptist Church. Churches he ministered were Beech Springs, Walker, Fellowship, Friendship, Center Point, Tangipahoa, Kingsville and Downsville.
He was preceded in death by his wife Annie Bell Smith; daughter, Bertha Marie Smith; sisters, Bertha Hatten and Ethel Westberry; and brother, James Smith.
He is survived by daughter, Jo Ann Quaid of Shreveport; sister, Loyal Rich of Cypress Inn, Tenn.; and many nephews, nieces and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home or to the Louisiana College Scholarship Fund.
Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Steadman
Lucille Steadman, 96
Memorial services for Lucille Taylor Steadman, 96, of Fort Collins, Colo., formerly of Alexandria and Jonesboro, were held May 8 at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Fort Collins. Burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Pineville.
Mrs. Steadman died May 4 at a hospice.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chet; son, Chet, Jr.; sisters, Lena Moore and Ethel Audrey Wiley; and brother, Az Taylor .
She is survived by son, Rick Steadman; sister, Marion Files; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Sandy Sundquist.
Services were under the direction of Goes Funeral Care of Fort Collins and Hayson Brothers of Pineville.

Arner
George Arner, 81
George William “Billy” Arner was born on Oct. 26, 1920 in Jonesboro, La. to William Henry Arner and Mae Jones Arner. After the death of his mother, he was reared by his maternal grandparents, Josiah “Joe” and Amerson Carlton Jones. He departed this life on April 23, 2002 after a lengthy illness.
At a young age, he had an interest in music and would play the piano, at Grandma Jones’ insistence, at the Macedonia Baptist Church, which is now First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. Two of his favorite hymns to play were “Jesus Lover of My Soul” and “Whispering Hope.”
His impulsive behaviors would at times get him into some precarious situations, such as, enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corp on Dec. 6, 1941.He is a graduate of Louisiana Tech.
Over his lifetime, he had various interests and numerous talents. He was a pilot, taught guitar, was a builder of furniture, a math teacher in Lisbon, pharmacist’s assistant and photographer. Archeology and astronomy were of interest, as well. He built and repaired clocks. The home resembled a menagerie at times with the cats, dogs, parrots and assorted creatures sharing the inhabitance. Give him a challenge and he would work until he could master the task.
Even as a boy, he loved to work with tools, but not always to build things. He once used his saw and hammer to “booby trap” the outhouse, then watched his grandfather enter that facility and have it fall on him.
Mr. Arner accepted Christ as his savior at a young age, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Jonesboro where he served as a deacon. He taught Sunday school at the Pinehill Nursing Home for many years.
He was a member and past Worshipful Master at the Jonesboro Masonic Lodge No. 280. He served as their secretary for many years, 32nd degree York Rite Mason, Elkaruba Shrine Temple in Shreveport.
He was a member and served as Worthy Patron of Crescent Chapter No. 164, Order of the Eastern Star in Jonesboro numerous times. The Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star were major parts of his life.
He retired from Stone Container in Hodge in 1986.Mr. Arner was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Effie Mae Morgan Arner.
He is survived by his wife Emma Jean Tolar Arner of West Monroe. He had one daughter and son-in-law Joyce “Jo” and Don Jones of Quitman, one granddaughter and grandson-in-law Amerson “Ame” and Major Scott Gray of Ruston, two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Katie Gray. He had two step children, Lyneta Coats and Wayne Simmons and wife Bonnie of Swartz and West Monroe. A step-great-granddaughter and great-granddaughter Jeri and Taylor Rankin.
Funeral services were held at Mulhearn’s Chapel in West Monroe on April 25, 2002 at 10 a.m. Burial was at Mulhearn Memorial Park mausoleum under the direction of Mulhearn’s Funeral Home.

Lockhart
Dora Mae Lockhart, 57
Funeral services for Dora Mae Lockhart, 57, of Quitman, were held April 20 at the Antioch Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Dark, Jr. officiating.
Mrs. Lockhart died April 17 at her home.
Born Nov. 17, 1944 in Vivian, she was a cook, a housewife and she worked for several years in a Ruston assembly plant.
She is survived by her husband, Oliver Lockhart of Quitman; son, James Darryl Everett and wife Misty of Blairsville, Ga.; step-daughters, Carra Marie Brown and husband David of Jonesboro and Olivia Hope Porter and husband Stephen of Jonesboro; step-son Hank Lockhart and wife Shawn of Hodge; sister, Patricia June Lollar of Kildare, Texas ; brother, Bertram O’Neal Holcomb of Hosston; grandchildren, Timothy and Dustin Everett, Jessica Porter, Kody and Korey Brown, Harley Lockhart and DaKota and Gabrielle Elies; and nieces Gina Frances and Tina Wilson.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.
