Scharr
Orwin Scharr, 88
Funeral services for Orwin Joseph Scharr, 88, of Ocean Springs, Miss. were held Aug. 10 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Ocean Springs. Burial followed in the Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Scharr died Aug. 7 at his home.
Born April 14, 1914 in Dickinson, N.D., he moved with his family to Ocean Springs in 1919. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1933-37 aboard the U.S.S. Texas . After working as a signalman for the railroad, he went to work for the United States Postal Service for 29 years, until his retirement as postmaster of Ocean Springs in 1969.Mr. Scharr was a member of the McLeod Masonic Lodge for more than 60 years serving as Most Worshipful Master and treasurer. He was also active in the Ocean Springs School System as a member of the PTA, and later as a school board member from 1962-1981.Mr. Scharr was a long-time member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, and he served the church in many capacities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lenora and Joseph Scharr; his first wife, Elinor Wright Scharr; his second wife, Ruth Dickey White Scharr; sisters, Lucile S. Webb and Ellen S. Easton; and two brothers, Merrill F. Scharr and Clair U. Scharr.
He is survived by his children, David O. Scharr of Winter Park, Fla., Andrew J. Scharr of Quitman, Roberta Elinor Scharr Allen of Ocean Springs, Donald E. Scharr of Ocean Springs, Nancy White Wilson of Ocean Springs, and John E. White of Ocean Springs; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were under the direction of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home of Ocean Springs.

Antley
James Antley, 40
Funeral services for James Antley, 40, of Jonesboro, formerly of Deville, were held Aug. 1 in the chapel of Hixson Brothers in Pineville with the Rev. Maurice Dugas officiating. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Antley died July 28 at his residence.
He was a lineman for 22 years, working the past two years with Entergy. He was also an avid outdoorsman.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Antley of Jonesboro; son, Jarrod Antley of Jonesboro; step-son, Dustin Barton of Pineville; step-daughter, Delisha Barton of Monroe; parents, Willy “Buddy” Antley and Carolyn Antley of Deville; and three brothers, Skipper Antley of Clinton, Mo., Stacy Antley of Scott and Trent Antley of Deville.
Pallbearers were Skipper Antley, Stacy Antley, Jarrod Antley, Brian Westbrook, David Tompkins, Garland Ryder and Paul Tompkins.
Services were under the direction of Hixson Brothers of Pineville.

Black
E.V. Black, 86
Funeral services for E.V. “Bill” Black, 86, of Mabank, Texas were held Aug. 3 at the First Baptist Church of Mabank with the Revs. Bill Price and James Hughes officiating. Burial followed in the Old Bethel Cemetery in Jackson Parish.
Mr. Black died Aug. 1.Born Jan. 31, 1916 in Bossier Parish, he was a carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Watson Black and Maggie Black.
He is survived by sons, J.C. Black of Fruitvale, Texas , Lonnie Black of Farmersville, Texas , Donnie Glaze of Bonsall, Calif., James Black of Mabank and Kenneth Black of Mabank; daughters, Fay Burch of Eros, Alice Springfield of Chatham, Wanda Calton of Mabank, Vivian Springfield of Jonesboro, Betty McLoud of Mabank, Edith Collins of Ardmore, Okla. and Anita Hodges of Arkansas; 34 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Services were under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home and Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Butler
Herbert Butler, 72
Funeral services for Herbert E. Butler, 72, of Jonesboro were held Aug. 4 at the Center Point Baptist Church with the Rev. William O. Busby, Jr. officiating. Burial followed in the Cypress Creek Cemetery.
Mr. Butler died Aug. 1 at Lincoln General Hospital.
He was a quality control inspector with Automatic Electric Telephone Company.
He is survived by his wife, Inez Butler of Jonesboro; sons, Damon Lee Butler of Silverville, Tenn., Harold Butler and wife Faye of Cleveland, Tenn., Hubert Butler of Ore City, Texas and Raymond Lee Butler; daughters, Judy Ann Goines of Ore City, Dana Leann Busby and husband Charles of Jonesboro, Amy Helen Henderson and husband Trent of Jonesboro and Corissa Dean Huddleston of Jonesboro; sister, Sara Doss of Camden, Ark.; brother, J.W. Butler of Warren, Ark., grandchildren, Taylor Turnbow, Kevin Goines, Alana Busby, Travis Butler, Sadie Busby, Garrett Butler and Dreydan Henderson; and great-grandchildren, Jonathan Goines and Chelsea Goines.
Pallbearers were Charles Busby, Trent Henderson, David Busby, Jeffery Cotherman, Jason Cotherman and Mark Thornhill.
Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Harper
Irene Harper, 85
Funeral services for Irene Patterson Harper, 85, of Saline were held July 31 at the Magnolia Baptist Church with the Rev. Weyland Gauntt officiating. Burial followed in the Mill Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Harper died July 28 at Forest Haven Nursing Center.
Mrs. Harper was a housewife and a member of the Magnolia Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis R. Harper and daughter Cordelia Ann Harper.
She is survived by sons, Julis Harper and wife Rebecca of Saline, David Burt Harper of Saline and Carlton Harper and wife Carmen of West Monroe; daughters, Mary Lou Cole and husband Robert of Bossier City, Elizabeth Johnson and husband Marlon of Leesville, Debrah Powers and husband Tommy of Jonesboro; and Ruby Burns and husband Greg of Burtonsville, Md.; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Greg Bagwell, Jeffrey Bagwell, Robert Cole, Thomas Cole, Benjamin Joseph Harper, Joshua Harper and William Harper.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Spangler
Leetie Spangler, 86
Funeral services for Leetie Angela Dark Spangler, 86, of Jonesboro were held July 31 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Ed Smith and Robert K. Leach officiating. Burial followed in the Midway Cemetery.
Mrs. Spangler died July 29 at Parkview Guest Care Center.
She was a homemaker and a long-time member of Midway Baptist Church.
Mrs. Spangler was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Spangler; son, Bobby Ray Spangler, parents, Lela Eldridge Dark and Howard Dark; brothers, Alton Dark, Allon Dark, J.B. Dark and Bermie Dark; and one grandson, Randy Myers.
She is survived by daughters, Nellie Ross of Winnfield and Bernice Shagun and husband Fred of Haughton; brother, Felton Dark of Bastrop; sisters, Linnie Mae Flask of Los Angeles, Calif. and Sybil Hammett of Monroe; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bradley Griffin, David Myers, Fred Shagun, Charles Spangler, Hanson Stringer and Bryan Varnell.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Nomey
Joseph Nomey, 76
Funeral services for Joseph George Nomey, 76, of Jonesboro were held July 30 at St. Lucy’s Catholic Church with Father Robert Leonhardt officiating. Burial followed in the St. Lucy Cemetery.
Mr. Nomey died July 28 at Life Care Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Jonesboro, he businessman and a United States Navy Veteran of World War II. After the war, he returned to Jonesboro where he started building his family. He was not only a builder but a leader. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus and on the JETCO Board. Through the years he started and ran many businesses successfully through his lifetime.
He is survived by a son, Joseph George “Sonny” Nomey, II and wife Angie of Jonesboro; daughters, Pam Huckaby of Shreveport and Patty Langlois of Monroe; sister, Mary Nomey Negem of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Chad Huckaby, Trey Nomey, Clay Pullig, Mitchell Huckaby and Camille Nomey; and one great-grandchild, Joseph Dillon Nomey.
Honorary pallbearer was Harold Allen.
Pallbearers were D.J. Allen, Terry Clason, Bill Weeks, Scott Andrews, Freddy Stewart and Van Beasley.
Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Rice
Jerry Beth Rice, 62
Funeral services for Jerry Beth Rice, 62, of Winnfield were held July 24 at the Sardis Cemetery with the Rev. Mickey Bounds officiating.
Ms. Rice died July 22 at Winn Medical Center.
Born Oct. 20, 1939 in Winnfield, she was a case worker for the state of Louisiana .
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas J. Rice and Clarice Clark Rice, and nephew Jeff Rice.
She is survived by a sister, Cathy Frederick of Winnfield; brothers, Floyd G. Rice of Las Vegas, Nev., Wayne L. Rice and wife Pat of Winnfield, Ronald J. Rice of Winnfield and David C. Rice and wife Stephanie of Natchitoches; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Rogers
Aubrey Rogers, 76
Funeral services for Aubrey James Rogers, 76, of Ruston were held July 27 at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Ruston with the Rev. Dale Oden officiating.Mr. Rogers died July 24 in Ruston.
He was a retired Holsum Bread sales representative and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Young, and a twin sister, Aubyn Morrow.
Survivors include his wife, Margie S. Rogers; sons, David Rogers and wife Lisa and Steve Rogers and wife Julie; daughter, Doris R. Best; sisters, Christine Martin and Nellie Holman; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services were under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.
