Woodrow Tew, 80
Woodrow Wilson Tew, born Nov. 5, 1912 went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 30, 2003. He was born in Forth Worth, Texas , the oldest of six children, to John Henry Tew and Elizabeth Hasselvander Tew. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he returned to live in Shreveport and worked at Libby-Owens-Ford Glass Co. until his retirement in 1971. He was an avid traveler, vocalist, hunter and fisherman, but his real love was his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, three brothers; son, Wayne Ellis Tew; and great-granddauther, Meagan Elizabeth Green. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Louella Roy Tew of Jonesboro; son, Clyde Tew Sr. and wife Janie of San Antonio, Texas ; son, Richard Tew and wife Valerie of Jonesboro; brother, John Wesley “Jake” Tew of Shreveport; granddaughter, Janna Tew Green, her husband David and their daughters, Erin and Elizabeth, all of Montgomery, Ala; grandson, Clyde Tew Jr., his wife Ann, their daughters, Lezley and Emily, and son, Ryan, his wife Juli, their son, Flisha, all of Shreveport; granddaughter, Pamela Tew Wimberley, her husband Kirk, and their daughters, Mysha and Morgan, all of Stillwater, Okla.; grandson, Gregory Wayne Tew and daughter Alyssa of Homer; grandson, Christopher Tew and son Connor of Shreveport; grandson, Allen Tew of Jonesboro, granddaughter Sarah Tew Noblin and husband Dave of Houston; granddaughter, AnnaMarie Tew and fiance, Dave Weise, of Dallas; and grandson, Bryan Tew of Houston.
Funeral services were April 2 at the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro, conducted by the Rev. Herb Dickerson. Burial and graveside services will follow at Centuries Memorial Park in Shreveport, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Matthew Wohlfarth. Grandsons will serves as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Family Life Center building fund at First Baptist Church in Jonesboro.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Mott
Steven Mott, 19
Funeral services for Steven Wayne Mott, 19, of Chatham were held June 11 at The Fishnet Church with the Revs. Russell Rhodes and Sherwood Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Mott died June 9.He is survived by his parents, Gerald and Barbara Mott of Chatham; sister, Stacy Mott of Chatham; paternal grandmother, Doris Mott of Chatham; maternal grandparents, Carl and Ruby Pool of Chatham; uncles, John Mott of West Monroe and Michael Pool of Eros; aunt, Kathryn Mosley of Chatham; great-grandmother, Minnie Mott of West Monroe; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Joshua Palmer, Joseph Johnson , Stevie Myers, Ricky Smith, Mike Watson and Eugene Harper.
Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Oliver
Laverne Oliver, 84
Funeral services for Laverne D. Oliver, 84, of Jonesboro were held June 5 at the Jonesboro Cemetery with Henry Glen Jordan officiating. Mrs. Oliver died June 4 at St. Francis Medical Center.
Born July 17, 1918 in Dodson, she was a long-time resident of Jonesboro and retired from the Continental Can Bag Mill of Hodge.
She is survived by a son, Jesse F. Oliver and wife Mona of Monroe; grandson, Kevin M. Oliver of Monroe; and niece, Joann Barnes of Miami, Fla.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Simpson
James Simpson, 79
Funeral services for James E. “Tip” Simpson, 79, of Farmerville were held June 6 at the Evergreen Baptist Church in Farmerville with the Revs. Mickey Bounds and Harvey Hoffman officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Simpson died June 4 in Farmerville.
Mr. Simpson was retired from the D.O.T.D. and a member of Evergreen Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Larene B. “Jo” Simpson of Farmerville; son, Eddie Joe Simpson and wife Marcie of Jonesboro; daughters, Rean and Dean Simpson, both of Farmerville; granddaughters, Lindsey, Shelby and Jolea Grace Simpson of Jonesboro; sisters, Clovis Bing of Shreveport, Letha Holder of Shreveport, Faye Rogers of Bernice and Bettye Holloway of Houston.
Honorary pallbearers were Glynn Tucker, Bill Jinks, Clifford Simpson, Anthony Yakaboski and the walking group at First Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were Greg Clary, Johnny Holder, Donnie Gates, Doug Simpson, Roger Simpson, Bruce Patton, C.E. “Shorty” Aulds, Frank Hutson (honorary) and Mickey Fontana.
Memorials can be made to the Evergreen Baptist Church.
Services were under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Farmerville.

Taylor
Andrew Taylor , 60
A.Jack Taylor , age 60, beloved husband and cherished father, of Jonesboro, La., went to be with the Lord on June 7, 2003. Services were held in his honor, Monday, June 9, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church with interment following in the church cemetery. Officiating the memorial services were Rev. Randy Lee, Rev. Marty Wright and Rev. Truman Leach.
Mr. Taylor was born February 18, 1943 in Dodson, La. He graduated from Dodson High School and later obtained a Master’s Degree from La. Tech University. Following graduation he pursued a career as a teacher and coach at Winnfield Jr. High School before transferring to Weston High School. He later obtained occupation as a farmer and residential building contractor.
In addition to his work, his many accomplishments include but are not limited to the following: Former state President of the La. Poultry Grower’s Association, former Jackson Parish School Board member, Deacon of Ebenezer Baptist Church for 22 years, former Sunday School teacher, and served on numerous church committees and organizations.
Mr. Taylor is preceded in death by his daughter, Danielle T. Nardone, his father-in-law, Basil H. Conn, and best friend and brother-in-law, Tommy H. Conn. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Eileen C. Taylor , of Jonesboro, La.; daughter, Carrie B. Taylor , of Atlanta, Ga.; son-in-law, Jeff Nardone, of Duluth, Ga.; mother and father Flora and H.J. Taylor of Gansville, La.; sister Shirley Tubbs and husband Ernest of Gansville, La.; mother-in-law, Margaret Conn of Jonesboro, La.; sisters-in-law, Nancy Harberson and husband Dennis of Ruston, La., Sandra Hale and husband Duane of El Dorado, Ark., Debbie Conn Parker and husband Roy of Jonesboro, La. and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Mike Staples, Jimmy Walker, Donald Wyatt, Rudolph Tarver, Delwyn Peters and Ricky Peel. Honorary pallbearers were Phil Milstead and Bobby Smith.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the many churches and friends who have supported, prayed and encouraged them during such a trying time. They ask for your continued prayers in the following days and months for peace and understanding. They know that Jack will be missed, but realize that Heaven is as blessed with his presence as was his former home here on earth.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Tolar
Barry Tolar, 51
Funeral services for Barry C. Tolar, 51, of Choudrant were held June 6 at the Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston with the Rev. Larry L. Jinks officiating. Burial followed in the Sibley Cemetery in Choudrant.
Mr. Tolar died June 3 in Shreveport after a lengthy illness.He is survived by his wife, Sherry Tolar of Choudrant; daughters, Christine Gift of Alvin, Texas and Katelyn Tolar of Choudrant; sons, Justin Tolar and Jonathan Tolar, both of Choudrant; step-children, Brian Traweek of Calhoun and Michelle Freeman of West Monroe; mother, Viola Pardue of Chatham; grandmother, Lydia Brewster of Choudrant; siblings, Lynn Tolar of Winnfield; Gloria Tucker of Ruston, Larry C. Tolar of Ruston, Nina Robertson of Arcadia, Sharon Hott of Ruston, Ester Spears of Quitman, Theresa Norman of Choudrant and Loresea Tolar of West Monroe; three grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Honorary pallbearers were L.J. Freeman and James Brewster.
Pallbearers were Brian Traweek, Nathan Spears, Shayne Norman, Steven Trevillion, Toby Trevillion and Chad Tolar.
Services were under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.

Bridges
Ever Bridges, 88
Funeral services for Ever Lesper Kirkham Bridges, 88, of Jonesboro were held May 23 at the Sweetwater Baptist Church with the Revs. Stuart Toms and Gene Cumpton officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Mariah Cemetery in Arcadia. Mrs. Bridges died May 21 at Forest Haven Nursing Center. Born July 28, 1914 in Bienville, she was a housewife. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Roy W. Bridges.
She is survived by five daughters, Janice Brown and husband R.E. of North Hodge, Iriece Simpson and husband Bob of North Hodge, Sue Denton and husband Don of Quitman, Brenda Robison and husband Cleeve of Monroe, Joanie Howard and husband Randy of Quitman; son: William Dan Bridges and wife Opal of Jonesboro; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of the Sweetwater Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were Gary Brown, Chris Howard, Tony Howard, Kevin Hobson, Heath Brown and Jim Atkins.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Broomfield
Lorene Broomfield, 84
Mrs. Lorene Johns Jeter Broomfield went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on May 24, 2003. Funeral services for Mrs. Broomfield, 84, of Dodson were held May 27 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Bill Strawbridge, Craig Ferguson and Danny Jackson officiating. Burial followed in the Gayla Traina Cemetery.
She died May 24 at her home. Born March 10, 1919 in New Hope, she was a postal employee. She was preceded in death by her parents Wesley and Ione Johns.
She is survived by her husband, W.A. “Jack” Broomfield of Dodson; daughters, Hazel Jackson and husband Horace of Baton Rouge and Carolyn Holloway and husband Hollis of Shreveport; son, Stanford Ferguson and wife Cynthia of Prattville, Ala.; brother, Leon Johns of Jonesboro; sisters, Ruby Watson of Downey, Calif., Mary Eloise Roesemeier of Jonesboro, Tommie Reed of New Orleans and Gloria Kelly of Jonesboro; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Butch Ligon, Eric Ferguson, Conrad Broomfield, Richard Broomfield, Delton Carpenter, John Cofskey, Trent Tatum and Jody Traina.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Compton
Lillie Compton, 89
Funeral services for Lillie Belle Compton, 89, of Jena were held at the Jonesboro Cemetery on May 27 with the Rev. John Johns officiating.
Ms. Compton died May 25 at LaSalle General Hospital.
Born Oct. 4, 1913, she was a retired cosmetologist.
She is survived by sisters, Bessie Tyler of Jena, Ruby Gilbert of Shreveport, Marilyn Stroud of Shreveport and Alene Robertson of Jackson , Miss.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Hanna
Yakima Hanna, 75
Funeral Services for Yakima Luther “Jack” Hanna, 75, of Jonesboro were held June 3 at the Gayla Traina Cemetery with the Rev. Alton Peel officiating.
Mr. Hanna died June 1 at the V.A. Medical Center.
Born Jan. 5, 1920 in Rochelle, he was self employed and a veteran of the United States Army.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Louise Hanna of Jonesboro; son, Bobby Hanna and wife Christine of Hot Springs, Ark.; daughter, Robin Janelle Barnes and husband Donald of DeQueen, Ark.; step-son, Doug Graham and wife Lisa of Dodson; step-daughters, Sandra Hays and husband Ronnie of Shreveport and Susan Huckaby and husband Bobby; brother, L.L. “Runt” Hanna of Mt. Olive; sisters, Evelyn Hopkins of Zwolle and Sylvia Ann Clements of Arkadelphia, Ark.; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.
