Holleman
Lois Holleman, 89
In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 14, 2003 at Bon Secours Maria Manor in St. Petersburg, Fla., Lois Holder Holleman went home to be with her Heavenly Father. She was born in Dubach on Dec. 18, 1914. Mrs. Holleman, a long-time resident of Simsboro, had spent the last four years in Tampa, Fla.
Visitation will be at the Southern Funeral Home in Jonesboro on Wednesday, June 18, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Celebration services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, June 19 at First Baptist Church in Simsboro with the Rev. Wilton Wall officiating. interment will be in the Simsboro Cemetery.
A graduate of Dubach High School, Mrs. Holleman attended Louisiana Tech. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Simsboro where she served in numerous capacities, but she especially loved her Sunday School Class that she taught for many years. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister, she will be missed by her family and friends, who will long remember her loving and caring spirit and her wonderful sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Cliff Holleman; her father, William Daniel Holder; her mother, Bernice Jones Holder; a brother, Donald Greer Holder; a sister, Alice Holder Joiner; and a son, Stephen Frederick Holleman.
She leaves to cherish her memory and to celebrate her homecoming, three sons and two daughters, John William Holleman of Palm Springs, Calif., Kaye Holleman Gassie of Dallas, Robert Alexander Holleman and wife Georgia of Travelers Rest, S.C., Clifton Wayne Holleman and wife Pam of Midland, Texas and Deborah Lynn Weir and husband David of Tampa; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, William Daniel Holder of Jonesboro, John Felix Holder of Shreveport, Pauline Holder Perry of Shreveport and Jo Anne Holder Spigener of Minden; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Lyles
Mary Lyles, 85
Funeral services for Mary Mildred Lyles, 85, of Ruston were held June 15 at the Ansley Union Church with the Revs. Bill Stokes and William Sanderson officiating. Burial followed in the Ansley Cemetery.
Mrs. Lyles died June 13 at Pinehill Nursing Home.
Born July 25, 1917 in Hodge, she was a retired nurses aid from Lincoln General Hospital.
She is survived by daughters, Robbie Ramsey and husband Harvey of Shreveport and Shirley Walsworth and husband Paul of Quitman; sons, Royce Allen Lyles of Waynesboro, Miss., Bobby Lyles and wife Sharon of Jonesboro, Delmas Lyles of Ruston and Marshall E. Lyles of Quitman; sister, Iva Norred of Quitman; brother, Guy Farley of Shreveport; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were her grandsons.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Lewter
Margie Lewter, 72
Margie M. Lewter, 72, died in her home in Elephant Butte, N.M. on June 16. Mrs. Lewter was born in Jonesboro on April 2, 1931, the daughter of John Elmer Ferguson and Ethel Mae ( Smith) Ferguson.
Mrs. Lewter was a homemaker and a resident of Elephant Butte since 1969.She is survived by her husband, Huey Lewter of the family home; a son, Ronnie W. Lewter of Clovis, N.M.; two daughters, Peggy L. Scott of Los Lunas, N.M. and Blenda S. Helms and husband Rick of Houston; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in Jonesboro. The time and date will be announced.

Springfield
Kenneth Springfield, 73
Funeral services for Kenneth Dale Springfield, 73, of Hodge were held June 12 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Tom McCurley and Dwayne M. Boudreaux officiating. Burial followed in the Midway Cemetery.
Mr. Springfield died June 10 at Glenwood Medical Center.
Born Aug. 29, 1929 in Old Vernon, he was a retired oiler for Stone Container. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Kimble Springfield and mother, Neza Hammett.
He is survived by sisters, Wanda Thames and husband Alvin of West Monroe and Nelda Hammons and husband Lynn of West Monroe; brother, Elwyn G. Springfield and wife Nellie of West Monroe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Bobby Brinson, Bobby Joe Folks, Doug Stokes, Edward Hughes, Bobby Schmidt and Robert Gaulden.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Thrasher
Lessie Thrasher, 94
Funeral Services will be held at the chapel of Edmond’s Funeral Home on Wednesday June 18 at 4 p.m. for Mrs. Lessie Lorine Cathey Thrasher of Jonesboro. Officiating will be Pastors Elton Gunter, Gene Cumpton, and Randy Lee. Ms. Lessie was born on October 12, 1908 in Bienville Parish, Louisiana . She Passed away quietly at 10 p.m. on Monday evening after a lengthy illness at the home of her niece and nephew, Bobby and Melba Murphy of Jonesboro. Mrs. Thrasher was 94. Mrs. Lessie had a passion for life and for the work of God. Until she became challenged by her health, Mrs. Thrasher was an active and devout member of Ebenezer Baptist Church of Jonesboro. Ms. Lessie enjoyed her involvement in community affairs — whether participating in voicing her opinion on political issues during Federal, State or Local elections, or through her donations to various charities and to those who are disabled and disadvantaged, including St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Mrs. Thrasher enjoyed a long and fruitful life, and she enjoyed the company of all people — most especially her friends and family. Survivors include one brother, Emory Cathey of Jonesboro, two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Irvin of Jonesboro and Mrs. Lucille Sutton of Ruston. As well, she is survived by her caregivers — a special niece and nephew, Bobby and Melba Murphy and family of Jonesboro. She is survived, as well, by another special niece, Mrs. Martha Louise Goza and husband Fred of Shreveport. Mrs. Thrasher was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. John Thrasher of Jonesboro, as well as by her mother, three sisters, and one brother. She was employed by Bellsouth for over 40 years, having retired in 1963. She regularly attended meetings for Bellsouth retirees, where she frequently received recognition for being the oldest living retiree from the Bellsouth system. The family would like to offer their sincere gratitude to Ms. Lessie’s faithful caregivers and special friends, Mrs. Jan Meek, Mrs. Serona Plunkett, and Mrs. Gwen Paggett, all of whom stayed by her side both day and night to ensure that she received the best of care during her last days. Pallbearers will be Travis Ables, D.J. Allen, Donald Johns, Randy McKinney, Aylon Pate and Billy Ray Peters
interment will be in the Jonesboro Cemetery under the direction of Edmond’s Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Anderson
J.C. Anderson, 86
Funeral services for J.C. Anderson, 86, of Ansley were held Nov. 22 at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with Samuel J. “Sam” Lamkin officiating. Burial followed in the New Prospect Cemetery in Clay.
Mr. Anderson died Nov. 16 at the Town and Country Nursing Home in Minden after a long illness.
He was retired from the timber industry.
Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his wife, Earl Anderson.
He is survived by his son, Larry Anderson and wife Rosemary of Ansley; brothers, Algon Anderson and wife Helen of Cloverdale, Calif. and John P. Anderson and wife Doyce of Blake Lake; grandsons, Larry W. Anderson Jr. of Ansley and James E. Anderson of Ansley; great-grandson, Nathan Anderson of Ansley; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Honorary pallbearers were John G. Haughton, R.E. Crowe, Natan Kennedy, Floyd Swain, Danny Williams, J. Hugh Weeks, James G. Kennedy, Jim McKinnie and Wayne “Snooky” Kennedy.
Pallbearers were Wayne Kennedy, Charles Anderson, Larry W. Anderson Jr., James E. Anderson, Charles McIntire and Casey Weeks.
Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Gatlin
Gary Gatlin, 57
Funeral services for Gary Stevens Gatlin, 57, of Jonesboro were held Nov. 23 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dwayne M. Boudreaux officiating. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories.
Mr. Gatlin died Nov. 21.Born Oct. 29, 1946 in Hodge, he was a cable repair technician. He is survived by his wife, Tommy Jean Gatlin of Jonesboro; daughter, Sonya Freeman and husband Scott of Ruston; son, Steven Gatlin and wife Emily of Ruston; grandchildren, Amber Freeman of Ruston and Alli Freeman of Ruston; aunt, Sarah Gatlin of Hodge; uncle, Jim Ed Gatlin of Jonesboro; and mother-in-law, Mildred Rushing Ponder of Jonesboro.
Honorary pallbearers were Ronnie Womack, Perry Hawkins, Ross Pullin, Mike Miles, Bobby Huckaby, Wayne Duhon, Chuck McLean, Daniel Burkhalter and Bruce Whitman. Pallbearers were Stanley Parker, Buddy Taylor , Jerry Ginn, Butch Garner, Roger Dark and Jimmy Teat.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Jones
Lottie Jones, 104
Funeral services for Lottie Idella (Faulk) Jones, 104, of Olla were held Nov. 25 at the Sharon Baptist Church with the Revs. Brad Jones and James Simons officiating. Burial followed in the Sharon Cemetery in Sikes.
Mrs. Jones died Nov. 22 at Winn Parish Medical Center.
She was a member of Beech Creek Baptist Church and the daughter of the late Joseph Faulk and Margaret Greenhaw Faulk.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Levi Jones Sr. and daughter, Opal Jones Taylor .
She is survived by three daughters, Jewell Cole of Jackson , Miss., Lois Rigdon of Olla and Gearline Thurber of Jackson ; sons, Levi Jones Jr. of Jonesboro, D.E. Jones of Olla, John David Jones of Olla and James Monroe Taylor of Olla; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.

Morgan
John Morgan, 47
Funeral services for John Walter Morgan, 47, of Jonesboro were held Nov. 24 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Jinks officiating. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories.
Mr. Morgan died Nov. 21 at his home.
Born July 1, 1956 in Jonesboro, he was a shipping clerk.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Morgan of Jonesboro; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Morgan of Jonesboro; son, John David Morgan of Jonesboro; brother, Albert Joe Morgan Jr. and wife Dorrit of Tampa, Fla., grandmother, Idora Parker of Jonesboro; grandchild, Malia Skye Snowden of Jonesboro; niece, Melissa Morgan; and nephew, C.J. Morgan.
Honorary pallbearers were Brad Otwell and Chad Otwell. Pallbearers were Bobby Otwell, Roger Hammons, Michael Morgan, Steven Morgan, Scott Otwell and Tim Hogan. Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Shows
Elizabeth Shows, 75
Funeral services for Elizabeth Jean “Betty” Shows, 75, of Seabrook, Texas were held Nov. 21 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Govenor D.L. Clements officiating. Burial followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery.
Mrs. Shows died Nov. 18 at Jackson Parish Hospital.
Born Dec. 20, 1927 in Detroit, she was a travel agent.
She is survived by her husband, James Shows of Seabrook; daughter, Barbi Shows and husband Frank Meek of Austin, Texas ; sons, Bob Shows and wife Sharon of Montgomery, Ala. and Doug Shows and wife Valerie of Seabrook; and three grandchildren, Wendy Shows, Chelsea Shows and Michael Shows. Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.
