Wood
Haylon Wood, 85
Maj. Haylon Ray Wood died Jan. 19 at Willis Knighton Hospital in Shreveport. Major Wood and his wife were residents of the Glen Retirement Village. Major Wood was born in Ansley on Feb. 3, 1918. He was the son of William Browder and Beulah Robinson Wood. Major Wood was a graduate of Ansley High School and a summa cum laude graduate of Louisiana Tech.
He joined the U.S. Army Air Corp in 1942 and served as a fighter pilot on the European Front during World War II. He served with the 10th Photo Squadron, 15th TAC/REC; 9th AF.
Maj. Wood was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal with 14 Oak Leaf Clusters, the EAME Theatre Ribbon with five battle stars, the American Theatre Medal and the American Defense Medal.
After retirement from the USAF in 1953, Maj. Wood received his BA degree from Louisiana Tech and was employed by the Social Security Administration. He was a 32nd degree Mason.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary “Sis” Kavanaugh Wood; daughter, Carol Anne Wood of New Orleans; step-daughter, Kay Anderson and husband Dwight of Ruston; grandsons, Todd Anderson of Austin, Texas , Maj. Bret Anderson and wife Gretchan of Charleston, S.C.; Mark Anderson and wife Joanna of Columbia, S.C.; brothers, Joe Woods and wife Ruth of Hemphill, Texas and Jim Woods and wife Joy of Jonesboro; sister, Ruth Byrd of Hattiesburg, Miss. and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family requests that any memorials be made to the American Heart Association of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Crowe
Iva Crowe, 90
Funeral services for Iva L. Crowe, 90, of Ruston were held Jan. 14 at the Ansley Union Church with the Revs. Bill Stokes, Less Webb and Bill Sanderson officiating. Burial followed in the Ansley cemetery.
Mrs. Crowe died Jan. 12 at Lincoln General Hospital.
Born March 31, 1913 in Smith County, Miss., she was a retired postmaster.
She is survived by her husband, R.E. Crowe of Ruston; son, Robert E. Crowe III and wife Shirley of Bastrop; sister, Delia Labby of Crowley; grandchildren, Jonathan Andrew Crowe of Bastrop, Heath Hayes Crowe and wife Charlotte of Bastrop and Robert E. Crowe IV and wife Regina of Bossier City; great-grandchildren, Robert E. Crowe V and Tiffeny Bonner.
Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Goins
Larry Goins, 56
Memorial services for Larry Edmund Goins, 56, of Chatham were held Jan. 14 at the First Baptist Church of Chatham. Mr. Goins died Jan. 12 at Minden Medical Center.
Born July 24, 1947 in Sanford, N.C., he was a retired truck driver and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Nell Goins of Chatham; daughter, Christine Michele Harris and husband David of Hallsville, Texas ; son, Larry Edmond Goins Jr. of Chatham; sisters, Elaine Causey and husband Larry of Broadway, N.C. and Robin Frye and husband Harry of Carthage, N.C.; brothers, Harles Matthew Goins of Chatham, Nelson Roy Goins of Amelia, La., J.M. Goins and wife Linda of Siler City, N.C. and Roger Goins of Carthage, N.C.; four grandchildren, Holly Renee Harris of Hallsville, David James Harris of Hallsville, Frances Nicole Harris of Hallsville and Jessica Michele Harris of Hallsville; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Morgan
Helen Morgan, 72
Funeral services for Helen Morgan, 72, of Moody Texas were held Jan. 19 at the Willow Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Ridge Adams officiating. Burial followed Jan. 20 in the Friendship Cemetery in Friendship.
Mrs. Morgan died Jan. 16 in McGregor, Texas .
Born Dec. 24, 1931 in Friendship to the late Norman Laurice and Emily Elizabeth (Cummings) Barron, she graduated from Elton High School.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald Wayne Morgan of Moody; sons, Norman Lee Treme and Glenn R. Treme, both of Temple, Texas ; daughters, Martha R. Carroll of Lake Charles, Jackie Burge of Austin, Texas , Tenny Miglicco of Lake Charles, Emily Marze of Austin and Helen Bass of Santa Fe, Texas ; brother, Tom Barron of Lafayette; sisters, Molly Linscomb of Foly, Ala. and Elaine Pullium of Comanche, Texas ; 10 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Darrell Burge, Curtis Carroll, Greg Grisby, Cody Marze, Danny Miglicco and Glenn Treme.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Phillips
Cardell Phillips, 72
Funeral services for Cardell Phillips, 72, of Quitman were held Dec. 6 at the Sandhill Baptist Church with the Rev. Milton Walker officiating. Burial followed in the Sandhill Cemetery.
Mr. Phillips died Dec. 1, 2003 at Lincoln General Hospital.
Born Aug. 24, 1931 in Bienville, Mr. Phillips was a deacon, a Sunday school teacher and very active at Sandhill Baptist Church. He was active in numerous organizations. Among them are: Lillie Caesar Post 527 of the American Legion where he served as treasurer; Morning Star Masonic Lodge No. 120 where he served as secretary and worshipful master; and Union Star Chapter No. 68 Order of Eastern Star where he served as patron. He also served as treasurer for the North Louisiana Baptist Association. He was a member of the NAACP.
He was employed by the Jackson Parish School Board and Grambling State University for 27 years as a bus driver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lucille Phillips, and two brothers, Henry and Eual Phillips.
He is survived by his wife Grace; children, Dorothy P. Bolds and husband Alfred of Alexandria, Va. and John W. Phillips of New Orleans; brothers, Colvin Phillips and wife Kitty of San Diego, Calif. and Frank Phillips Jr. and wife Ollie Van of Grambling; sisters, Mary Walters of San Diego, Dorothy C. Wimbush of Tulsa, Okla. and Jean Haskin and husband Joe of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Honorary pallbearers were Colvin Phillips, Kevin Walters, John Phillips, Kenneth Phillips, Eual Phillips Jr., Alfred Bolds, Frank Phillips Jr., Ve’Sean Bogan, Eric Phillips, Edward Walters, Ryan P. Labat and the deacons of Sandhill Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were members of Morning Star Lodge No. 120 F&AM Prince Hall Affiliated Jurisdiction of Louisiana .
Services were under the direction of Patterson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Parker
Dorothy Parker, 92
Funeral services for Dorothy M. Parker, 92, of Quitman were held Jan. 7 at the Mount Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Tyler officiating. Burial followed in the Mount Olive East Cemetery.
Mrs. Parker died Jan. 3 at Lincoln General Hospital.
Born June 5, 1911 in Bienville, she was a housewife.
She is survived by daughters, Katie Parker Stang and husband Clarence of Rochester, Penn. and Maxine Parker McKee and husband Richard of Shreveport; sons, Mack Andrew Parker and wife Hazel of Quitman and Alvin “Sonny” Parker and wife Eloise of Quitman; sister, Allene Soles and husband Elmer of Beaver, Penn.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Eric Parker, Ricky McKee, Timmy McKee, Dennis McKee, David McConathy and Charles H. Tilley.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Wise
Ozeal Wise, 93
Funeral services for Ozeal Victoria Hasley Wise, 83, of Saline were held Jan. 12 at the Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church with the Revs. David Godwin, Junior Stokes, and V.L. Montgomery officiating. Burial followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Wise died Jan 10 in her home.
Born July 10, 1920 in Chestnut, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Elsie Hasley; her loving husband of 54 years, Walter B. Wise; and two granddaughters.
She is survived by daughters, Ruby Inez Wise and husband Frank of Gillett, Ark. and Janice Faye Wise Roberts and husband Billy of Saline; sons, Alton Charles Wise Sr. and wife Sheryl of Mooringsport and Wilburn Lee Wise Sr. and wife Peggy of Readhimer; sister, Izula Williams of Readhimer; nephews, Edward Williams and wife Ellen of Readhimer and Johnny Williams and wife Sue of Gansville; niece, Laverne Davis and husband J.R. of Readhimer; 11 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Glen Davis, the Rev. Richard Wise, the Rev. Robert Wise, Alton C. Wise Jr., Lee Wise Jr., Michael Wise and Ken Roberts.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Harvey
Vivian Harvey, 91
Graveside services for Vivian L. Harvey, 91, of Ruston were held Jan. 6 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston. Ms. Harvey died Jan. 4 in Ruston.
Services were under the direction of Owens Memorial Funeral Home of Ruston.

Smith
Evelyn Smith, 85
Funeral services for Evelyn Smith, 85, of Hodge were held Dec. 31 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Perry Lassiter officiating. Burial followed in the Union Cemetery in Bienville.
Mrs. Smith died Dec. 29 at the North Monroe Medical Center.
Born July 24, 1918 in Bienville, she was a retired clerical secretary.
She is survived by daughter, Delane Finton and husband Jim of Hodge; son, Jerry Smith and wife Marcia of Campti; grandchildren, Joni Lynn Rose and husband Scott of Memphis, Tenn., Donna Beth Buchanan and husband John of Tupelo, Miss., Jenny Delane Melendez and husband Alfredo of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Jerri Ann Lissard and husband Eric of New Iberia and Jay Finton and wife Ashley of Little Rock, Ark.; and nine great-grandchildren, Emma Kate Rose of Memphis, Pierce Rose of Memphis, Baily Rose of Memphis, Molly Rose of Memphis, Seth Buchanan of Tupelo, Gabriel Melendez of San Juan, Isabella Melendez of San Juan, Tyler Grace Lissard of New Iberia and Luke Henry Lissard of New Iberia.
Honorary pallbearers were George Schmidt, Hardie Carson, Delbert Clark, Kenneth Sones, Mr. Odom, Edwin Harper, J.C. Reed, Mike Miles, Randal Harrington and Bruce Whitman.
Pallbearers were Jerry Hutchinson, Bobby Brinson, Robert Gaulden, Bobby Joe Folks, Travis Hall, Ed Hughes, Bobby Schmidt and Robert Gammill.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.
