Cockerham
Varal Cockerham, 77
Graveside services for Varal T. Cockerham, 77, of West Monroe were held April 7 at Tippen Cemetery with the Rev. Sherwood Smith Officiating.

Mrs. Cockerham died April 5 at Glenwood Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

She was retired from the retail and motel business.

She is survived by three sons, Ronnie Cockerham and wife Sherry of Lafayette, Donnie Cockerham and wife Christine of Houma and Bobby Cockerham and wife Kathleen of Houma; one daughter, Debbie Lancaster of Jonesboro, Ark.; brothers, Donald Tippen and wife Darlene of West Monroe and Dervis Tippen of Little Rock, Ark.; sisters, Aral Ellis of West Monroe, Collen Chatham of West Monroe and Amy Barke and husband Bob of West Monroe; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Hightower
Connie Hightower, 47
Funeral services for Connie Denise Hightower, 47, of Dodson were held April 6 at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Winnfield with the Rev. Lindsey Burns officiating. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories in Winnfield.

Mrs. Hightower died April 3 in her home.

Born in Winnfield, the daughter of Rodger D. and Shirley Campbell Jones, she was a member of Cypress Creek Baptist Church, a graduate of Winnfield Senior High School and Louisiana Tech. She taught English in Sikes and Dodson High Schools and taught summer school at Winnfield Senior High.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Hightower of Dodson; parents, Rodger and Shirley Jones of Winnfield; and brother, Jimmy Jones and wife Heather of Winnfield.

Honorary pallbearers were Gary Copeland, Woodie Jones, Derek Jones, Heath Zimmerman, Don Wells and Steve Burnam.

Pallbearers were Danny Jones, Larry Jones, Terry Jones, Brian Jones, Steve Copeland, Wayne Harvey, Nathan Harvey and Teddy Price.

Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.

Norred
David Norred Jr., 45
Graveside services for David Edgar Norred Jr., 45, of Calhoun were held at the Antioch Cemetery with pastor Dale Farley officiating.

Mr. Norred died April 5 at Glenwood Medical Center.

Born Nov. 1, 1957 in Monroe, he was an assistant chimney sweep.

He is survived by his mother, Lila Maxine Norred of Calhoun; daughter, Heather Dawn Harnar and husband Ronnie of Calhoun; sisters, Phillis Williams and husband Stan of Calhoun and Deloris Swoveland and husband Phil of West Monroe; and three grandchildren.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Satcher
Gene Satcher, 72
Funeral services for Gene Satcher, 72, of Ruston were held April 5 at Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Sanderson officiating. Burial followed in the Vernon Cemetery.

Mr. Satcher died April 3 at Lincoln General Hospital.

He was preceded in death by one son, Duane Satcher and brother, Calvin Satcher.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Satcher of Ruston; son, Ken Satcher of Homer; daughter, Kay Barr of Vernon; brother, Milton Satcher of Monroe; sister, Thelma Reyanud of Latanier; and four grandchildren.

Services were under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

Smith
Mary Smith, 59
Funeral services for Mary Ellen Smith, 59, of Jonesboro were held April 4 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. V.L. Montgomery officiating. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories. Mrs. Smith died April 2 at Lincoln General Hospital.

Born Sept. 2, 1943 in Jonesboro, she was a sales associate.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Moreau of Jonesboro; son, Alan Ramsey of Campti; mother, Helen Futrell of Jonesboro; brothers, Doyle Futrell of Quitman, Cleasey Futrell of Quitman and Charles Futrell of Quitman; sisters, Pat Mason of Chestnut, Diane Hammons of Monroe and Delores Privett of Jonesboro; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Edwin Futrell, Randy Mason, Alan Hammonds, Greg Welch, Ralph Mason and Marty Futrell.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Gray
Corinne Gray, 68
Funeral services for Corinne Gray, 68, of Jonesboro were held March

25 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Herb Dickerson officiating. Burial followed in the Fellowship Cemetery.

Mrs. Gray died March 22 at Schumpert Medical Center.

Born Feb. 11, 1935 in Bedeville, Ark., she was a member of the American Cancer Society and very active in the Relay for Life. She was a member of the Heritage Quilt Guild, and an active member of the First Baptist Church. She was retired from Jonesboro-Hodge Cable Television, where she was an office manager.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Gray of Jonesboro; sons, John Buckelew and wife Susan of Abbeville, Oliver Lockheart of Houston and Mitchell Gray of Lake Charles; brothers, Don Cope and wife Nellie of Alexandria and David E. Cope and wife Mary of Lake Shasta, Calif.; sister, Lida Burkett of Portsmouth, Va.; sisters-in-law, Alma Gray of Jonesboro, Lorene Woodard and husband Scotty of Ringgold and Annette Collinsworth and husband Danny of Bienville; grandchildren, Mathew Buckelew, Rachel Gary, Alyssa Gray and Hannah Gray; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Eddie Maxwell, Mathew Buckelew, Hank Lowery, Bobby Culpepper, Dwayne Mitchell and Randy Layfield.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Phipps
Ruth Phipps, 85
Ruth Monk Phipps, 85, died March 25, 2003 in Rowlett, Texas .

Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Wellington, Texas , with Elder T.J. Pittman officiating. Burial was in North Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home.

Mrs. Phipps was born Jan. 29, 1918 in Mansfield, Ark. She graduated from Weston High School in 1934. She married Dudley Phipps in Jonesboro and moved to Wellington where she was a homemaker and an Avon salesperson.

Survivors include a sister, Opal Avery, of Jonesboro.

Raggio
Winnie Raggio, 76
Funeral services for Winnie Raggie, 76, of Jonesboro were held March 30 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marlin Betts officiating. Burial followed in the Hodge Cemetery.

Mrs. Raggio died March 28 at the Jackson Parish Hospital.

Born Jan. 30, 1927 in Camden, Ark., she was a retired town clerk.

Mrs. Raggio is survived by her son, Charles Henry Raggio Jr. of Arlington, Texas ; daughters, Anita Lee Potts and husband Rick of Charlotte, N.C. and Laura Bean of Houston; sister, Ann Alleman of Many; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Russel Wink, Lamar Ponder, Ben Cade, Michael Raggio, Matthew Raggio and Kyle Bean.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Scoggins
Billie Scoggins, 72
Funeral services for Mrs. Billie Ruth Scoggins, 72, of Quitman were held March 30 with the Revs. Gene Cumpton, Edwin Fenton and Dr. Edwin Davis officiating. Burial was in the Jonesboro Cemetery.

Billie Ruth once served as pianist at Southside Baptist Church and pianist and assistant organist at Hodge Baptist Church. Later she served as minister of music for six and a half years. Quitman Methodist gave her the honor to serve as choir director for six years.

She was an avid animal lover and owned Love’s Puppy Inn in Quitman.

Survivors include her husband, Dee Scoggins of Quitman; one son, Mike “Pete” Peters and wife Carla of Quitman; one daughter, Kathy Browning and husband Gary of Dodson; two brothers, Bobby Jo Gray and wife Mary of Jonesboro and John David Gray and wife Linda of Blanchard; a special sister, Margie Anderson of Quitman; special children, Roy Eugene Scoggins of Jonesboro, Ambra Stephens and husband Craig of Quitman; Kathy Nell Stevenson and husband Robert of Quitman, Cindy Lea Alexander and husband Roger of Jonesboro and Randle Todd Scoggins of Quitman; six grandchildren, Michael Shane Peters, Sunni Brook Peters, Kandi Renae Deese and husband Jody, Mandi Spillers, Tobi Dee Spillers and T.K. Spillers; four great-grandchildren, Kali M’Lyn Lawrence, Alana Paige Lawrence, Thomas Carter Deese and Carlie Jade Wiley; seven special grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Pallbearers were Ernie Roden, Joey Anderson, Jackie Anderson, Shawn Talley, Delwyn Peters and James Anderson. Honorary pallbearers were Todd Scoggins, Roy Scoggins, T.K. Spillers, Craig Stephens, Robert Stevenson, Jody Deese, Shane Peters and Roger Alexander.

Memorials can be made to the Humane Society, animal shelters or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Tew
Woodrow Tew, 80
Woodrow Wilson Tew, born Nov. 5, 1912 went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 30, 2003. He was born in Forth Worth, Texas , the oldest of six children, to John Henry Tew and Elizabeth Hasselvander Tew. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he returned to live in Shreveport and worked at Libby-Owens-Ford Glass Co. until his retirement in 1971. He was an avid traveler, vocalist, hunter and fisherman, but his real love was his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, three brothers; son, Wayne Ellis Tew; and great-granddauther, Meagan Elizabeth Green. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Louella Roy Tew of Jonesboro; son, Clyde Tew Sr. and wife Janie of San Antonio, Texas ; son, Richard Tew and wife Valerie of Jonesboro; brother, John Wesley “Jake” Tew of Shreveport; granddaughter, Janna Tew Green, her husband David and their daughters, Erin and Elizabeth, all of Montgomery, Ala; grandson, Clyde Tew Jr., his wife Ann, their daughters, Lezley and Emily, and son, Ryan, his wife Juli, their son, Flisha, all of Shreveport; granddaughter, Pamela Tew Wimberley, her husband Kirk, and their daughters, Mysha and Morgan, all of Stillwater, Okla.; grandson, Gregory Wayne Tew and daughter Alyssa of Homer; grandson, Christopher Tew and son Connor of Shreveport; grandson, Allen Tew of Jonesboro, granddaughter Sarah Tew Noblin and husband Dave of Houston; granddaughter, AnnaMarie Tew and fiance, Dave Weise, of Dallas; and grandson, Bryan Tew of Houston.

Funeral services were April 2 at the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro, conducted by the Rev. Herb Dickerson. Burial and graveside services will follow at Centuries Memorial Park in Shreveport, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Matthew Wohlfarth. Grandsons will serves as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Family Life Center building fund at First Baptist Church in Jonesboro.
