Funeral services were held for George H. Tolar of North Richland Hills, Texas , at 10 a.m. July 26 at Hampton Road Baptist Church in DeSoto, Texas with Dr. Jerry Raines officiating.
Burial followed in the Jonesboro Cemetery at 6 p.m. with Reverend Malcom Self officiating.
He was born September 18, 1916 in Jackson Parish L.A. Mr. Tolar is preceded in death by his parents William H and Bess Tolar; brothers: W.H Jr. and Stovall Tolar.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Beatrice Carter Tolar; son George R. Tolar and wife Charlene; daughters: Sandra Tolar Collins; Jana Tolar Liles and husband Randell. Grandchildren: Todd Tolar and wife Kelly; Bryan Tolar and wife Keri; Misty Collins; Justin Liles and wife Raluca; Kimberly Liles Mayfield and husband Ben. Great Grandchildren: Kendall and Will Tolar. Brothers: John Alfred, Edward Thomas and Dan; Sister: Tillie Caileff.
Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home

Bates
Hazel Bates, 79
Funeral services for Hazel Louise Bates, 79, of Jonesboro, were held 10:00 AM Saturday, August 7, 2004 at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating was Rev. Larry Jinks. interment followed at Zions Rest Cemetery. Visitation services were held Friday, August 6, 2004 from 2 PM to 9 PM at Edmonds Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bates Passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2004 at Christus Shumpert. She was a nurse. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Glenda Ann Hall, and one brother, Virgil J. Henderson.
Survivors include her husband John Edwin Bates, Jr. of Jonesboro; five daughters, Sharon Wages and special friend Samuel Lemmons of Jonesboro; Vicki Walker and husband Martin of Jonesboro; Kim Martin of Jonesboro; Rickie Bates of Columbia; Rosie Norred and husband Jack of Jonesboro. Two sons, Michael Hall and wife Donna of Bosseir City; and Gary (Bo) Bates of Quitman. Three sisters, Myrtle Walsworth of Jonesboro; Ruth Huddleston of Jonesboro; and Jean Hall of Friendship. One brother Adrian F. Henderson of Jonesboro; Thirteen grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers where John Ross, Felton Gates, Jesse Henderson, Billy Bryant, Dennis Hood, and Wade Shoemaker. Honorary Pallbearers were Jerry Wages and Lane Warren.

Swanner
Hazel Swanner, 94
Funeral services for Hazel Esterle Swanner, 94, of Jonesboro, LA were held 10:00 AM Friday, August 6, 2004 at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Officiating was Rev. Randy Lee and Rev. Truman Leach. interment followed at Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery. Visitation time was Ebenezer Baptist Church on Thursday, August 5, 2004 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Mrs. Swanner Passed away Thursday, August 5, 2004 in Lincoln General Hospital. She was a retired beautician.
Survivors include one niece, Jane Lockhart and husband Wesley of Jonesboro, LA; one nephew, Eddie Knighten and wife Marilyn of Weston, LA.
Pallbearers were R.E. Tarver, Troy Wyatt, Lehman Watts, Keith Rhodes, Billy Ray Culpepper, Gene Buchelder and Donald Wyatt.

Worthington
Ruby Worthington, 67
Funeral services for Ruby Elizabeth Worthington, 67, of Hodge, LA were held Saturday August 7, 2004 at 2:00 PM at Hodge Baptist Church. Officiating was Bro. Dwayne M. Boudreaux. interment followed at Mt. Olive West Cemetery in Quitman, LA. Visitation was held at Edmonds Funeral Home on Friday, August 6, 2004 from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
Mrs. Worthington Passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2004, in Lincoln General Hospital. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband Charles W. Worthington of Hodge ; two sons, Chuck Worthington and wife Tracy of Hodge; Eddie Worthington and wife Melanie of Jonesboro ; two daughters, Lisa Harvey of Jonesboro; Gail Frost and husband Kenny of Jonesboro; her mother Audrey Hildreth of Hodge; and six grandchildren, Charlie, Kristin, Tyler, Ashlyn, Alyssa and J.J.Pallbearers were Chad Boddie, Lane Nesbit, Troy Harvey, Johnny Shively, Ron Walsworth and Randy Mason.

Thiels
Mary Beth Thiels
Mary Beth Thiels, loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Mary Beth quietly Passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2004 surrounded by her family at home in Choudrant.
A memorial mass was held at 10 AM on Saturday, August 21 at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic church in Ruston. Throughout her long and courageous struggle with brain cancer, Mary Beth was an inspiration to those who knew her, always maintaining her humor, investment in self-discovery and joy for the simple things in life. Mary Beth was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University, and received her M.F.A. from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
She loved the theater all her life and, at the time she became ill, was a working actor in Chicago. Mary Beth is preceded in death by her grandparents, Peter and Bonnie Thiels, and Aubrey and Lola Sanders, all of Alexandria, Louisiana . She is survived by her parents, Pete and Kay Thiels of Choudrant, Louisiana ; two sisters: Margaret Falletta and husband Tom of Conway, Arkansas; three brothers: Joe Thiels, Paul Thiels and wife Michelle, all of New Orleans, Louisiana , and Andrew Thiels of Los Angeles, California; three nephews: Ben and Sam Roberts, and Grady Thiels; and three nieces: Josie and Albanie Falletta, and Lillian Thiels, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, Mary Beth suggested donations be made to the following organizations: Wayne State University Brain Tumor Research Fund, attn.: G.R. Barger, M.D. Department of Neurology, 8D-UHC, 4201 St. Antoine, Detroit, MI 48201, or Hospice of Caring Hearts, 546 Pea Ridge Road, Dubach, Louisiana 71235, (318) 255-2033.

Watson
James Watson, 85
Funeral services for James Lamar Watson, 85, of Baton Rouge, LA were held at Jimmie Davis Tabernacle on Friday, August 13, 2004 at 10:30 AM.
Officiating was Rev. Robert Tyler. interment was held at the Jimmie Davis Tabernacle Cemetery. Mr. Watson Passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at Our Lady of The Lake.
He was a retired pharmacist and former purchasing officer for the state of Louisiana . He served in the Navy during WWII. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Mae Schmidt Watson and two brothers, Erin and Evarett Watson.
Survivors include one daughter, Adriene Jean Davis of Baton Rouge; two sons, William Nicholas Watson and wife Eve of Baton Rouge, James Everett Watson and wife Anne of Pawleys Islan, S.C.; one brother Adrian Young and wife Jean; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Wheatly
Jessie Wheatly, 92
Jessie Alvern (York) Wheatly, age 92, formerly of Hodge, LA, died Friday, August 13, 2004 at Lincoln General Hospital in Ruston, LA. following a month long illness. She was a recent resident of Alpine Guest Care Apartments in Ruston, LA. She was born on February 23, 1912 in Notasulga, AL. Mrs.
Wheatly was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Stewart “Bo” Wheatly of Hodge, LA; a grandson, Kenneth Stewart Ardoyno of New Orleans, LA; her parents, Joseph Herman York and Minnie Burke York of Hodge,LA.; her sister, Mildred York strong of Eirmingham, AL.; her two brothers, Dorsey York of Jasper TX. and Reese York of Monroe, LA.; and her son-in-law Edward L. Ardoyno of New Orleans, LA.
She is survived by her three daughters, Lynn Wheatly Edwards and husband Raymond of Ruston, LA, Martha Sue Wheatly Rose and husband Robert of Ruston, LA, Gwen Wheatly Ardoyno of New Orleans, LA, four grandchildren, Douglas Rose, Karen Rose Hardel and husband Jim of Ruston, LA, Todd Edwards of Shreveport, LA, and Jaime Ardoyno Havard and husband Greg of New Orleans, LA, four great grandchildren, Holden Rose, Taylor Rose and Callie Hardel of Ruston, LA; Alexander Havard of New Orleans, LA. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and good friends.

Ewing
L.C. Ewing, 92
L.C. Ewing age 92 Passed away Thursday, August 19 in Lincoln General Hospital. Mr. Ewing was born in Chatham, Louisiana March 21, 1912 and lived his entire life in Jackson Parish. He was reared along with his seven brothers and sisters on a small family farm.
Upon graduation from high school he worked a year on road construction and later entered Louisiana Tech where he lettered in basketball. With the help of Huey Long he got a job on the student farm at Louisiana State University and graduated in 1935.
He then joined the Civilian Conservation Corp. and was stationed in Arcadia, Ringgold, and later on in McComb Mississippi. In 1941 Mr. Ewing joined the Army Air Force and earned the rank of Lieutenant. Upon discharge from the Army in 1946 Mr. Ewing returned to Jackson Parish and began a career in the timber business first working for Tremont Lumber Co. and later on forming his own business in timber management and procurement.
Through out the years Mr. Ewing demonstrated his love and true regard for the land, timber, and wildlife. His aim was to always be a good steward of God’s creation. He and his partner of 63 years, the late Louise W. Ewing, gave generously of their time and resources to their church, community, and civic concerns. His love for and activity in the community was recognized when he was named Outstanding Citizen in Jackson Parish in 1975. Mr. Ewing was an active force in the early years of the Louisiana Forestry Association and was involved with both national and state business and forestry trade organizations. Of particular interest to the Ewings were youth groups and organizations and they were actively supportive of the Methodist Children’s Home, Silver Waters Girl Scouts Camp, and the youth programs of the Jonesboro United Methodist Church.
Mr. Ewing was most of all a family man. Beginning with his own parents down through his great grandchildren, five generations have enjoyed the love and care of this strong man with a soft heart. He shall be missed, but always held as a standard of all that is good, decent, honest, and caring, by Terry and Donna Ewing of Ruston, Louisiana ; Randy and Rosemary Ewing of Quitman, Louisiana ; Ashley and Wendell Manning and children Margaret, Jefferson , and Rosemary of Monroe, Brandon and Susan Ewing and children Allison and Bess of Ruston, La.; Brad and Becky Ewing and children Barton and Maggie, of Baton Rouge, Amy and Jeff Janes of Nashville Tennessee, and Adam Ewing of Ruston, Louisiana , one sister Callie Wright of Shreveport and his many friends and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 PM Saturday August 21 and the Jonesboro United Methodist Church with burial following at the Jimmie Davis Tabernacle Cemetery. Visitation was held at Edmonds Funeral Home in Jonesboro from 5 to 7 PM Friday, August 20th.Pallbearers were Brandon Ewing, Brad Ewing, Adam Ewing, Wendell Manning, Jeff Janes, Stuart Harrison, Billy Phillips, David Sims.The family request that memorials be made to the Jonesboro United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 156, Jonesboro, Louisiana 71251.

Garner
John Garner III, infant
Funeral services for John Francis Garner, III of Jonesboro, LA were held at Ebenezer Cemetery on Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at 2 PM. Officiating was Rev. Junior Stokes. Garner was the infant son of John Garner, Jr. and Shannon Walker Garner of Jonesboro, LA.
He is also survived by his two sisters, Brianna Garner and Adriana Garner, both of Jonesboro; maternal grandparents, Floyd Walker of Weston, LA, Rubye Utley of Jonesboro, LA; paternal grandparents, Vicky and Earl Cherry of Ruston, LA; paternal great-grandmother, Dorothy Yates of Bastrop, LA. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, John Garner.

Mayes
Geneva Mayes, 97
Geneva Neal Mayes was born at Jonesboro, La., August 14, 1907 to the late James Joseph Franklin and Annie Rachel Ebert Neal. She departed this life on Monday, August 16, 2004 at 12:50 p.m. in her home in Monroe, La. surrounded by her loved ones.
Mrs. Mayes was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Henry C. Mayes; a son, Levene Mayes; two daughters, Lucille Becton and Mary Anniree Ikerd.
Grandma Mayes is survived by five daughters, Arnell Mayes of Monroe, who has lived her entire life with her mother; Elsie and Lt. Col. Albert Cordani of League City, Texas ; Reva and Jesse Griggs of Hitchcock, Texas ; Hazel and J.J. Coker of Phoenix, Arizona; Ruby Williams of Monroe; a dear friend, Vera Hull of Goodrich, Texas and one 1st cousin. Mrs. Mayes has 19 grandchildren, many great and great-great grandchildren as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Services were held Thursday, August 19, 2004 in the chapel of Southern Funeral Home with Reverend Norman Newsome of Waskom officiating. Matthew Haynes, a great-grandson, gave the eulogy with special music by great-granddaughter Ashley Leach. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Burial followed at Salem Cemetery near Eros.

Myers
Capt. Marlon Myers, 80
Captain Marlon E. Myers peacefully left this world to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Castor, LA August 13, 1924 to John and Fannie Myers. He is survived by his faithful wife of fifty-eight years, Ann Vines Myers of Lake Charles; one daughter, Fran Hanks and husband, J.W. of Lake Charles; two sons, Richard Myers and wife, Lou of Westlake and Donnie Myers and wife Missy of Lake Charles; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Sadie Myers of Lake Charles and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Lazene and John Hubert Myers, a sister, Grace Wherland, and a niece, Carol Romero.
He served his country from 1943-1947 with an honorable discharge from the Navy. He retired from the City Police Department in 1967 a captain as over the Traffic Division. He was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a past president, a member of the Municipal Police Officer Association and the Louisiana Police Officer Association. After his retirement from the police department at he age of 42, Marlon was an avid sportsman. His first love was deer hunting, with fishing a close second. Travel also played an important part in his life.
It was the wish of Marlon and his family that he be cremated. A Memorial Service was held Saturday, August 21, 2004 in Tom Hebert Road Baptist Church in Lake Charles, LA under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. A Lake Charles City Police and United States Naval Honor Guard were present. Visitation with the family will began at 10 AM Saturday at the church and the services was at 11 AM. The Rev. J.W. Hanks and Christopher Fuselier conducted this service. At the conclusions of the service, to announce his heavenly arrival, a releasing of 300 red, white, and blue balloons took place.
In lieu of flowers, a special account has been set up at Jeff Davis Bank at 4400 Nelson Road, Lake Charles, LA account # 78002014 to help offset medical expenses.
