C. K. Brooks, 92 of West Monroe, a minister, died Thursday. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe with Rev. Ira Schillings and Howard Hudson officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Beulah Cemetery, Calhoun. Rev. Brooks was a native of Union Parish, having lived in West Monroe for the past 53 years where he had worked and retired from Olinkraft and served as a minister until death. Bro Brooks pastored Methodist churches in West Monroe,Bonita, Wilhite, Minden, and Haughton.
Survivors include his son: Cary Brooks and wife, Marie, of West Monroe; granddaughter: Patricia L. Brooks, of Springfield, MO; grandson: Bryan Brooks of West Monroe, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Pallbearers will be Ted Gates, Byron King, Arnold King, Dennis Kyle, Cordell King, and Jimmy Gibson. Any planned memorials may be made to the Rev. C. K. Brooks Memorial Scholarship Fund: c/o L. V. Frith, 198 Lapine Road, West Monroe, LA. 71291.

Herman Cloud, 83 of Goldonna, a U.S. Shoe Corp. retiree, died Friday. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Goldonna Baptist church. Goldonna. Visitation will be from 1:30 until service time at the church. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, near Goldonna, under direction of Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield.

Elmer Curtis, 79 of Bonita, a retired school teacher, died Friday. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Bonita Baptist Church, Bonita. Burial will be Old Forest Cemetery, Forest, under direction of Goldens Funeral Home, Bastrop.

Ivey F. Frost, 87 of West Monroe, died Saturday, November 15, 1997. Services will be Sunday at 10 p.m. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe with Rev. David Maxwell officiating. Burial will be in Aulds Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Frost was a member of Ridge Avenue Baptist church. He was retired from Frost Trailer as a welder. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years: Opal Malone Frost; a son: Leslie Weldon Frost; one grandchild: Kimberly Murphy; parents: Floyd and Molly Frost; two brothers: Robert (Pat) Frost and Albert Frost; three sisters: Bessie Frost, Mittie Smith, and Rosalie Frost.
Survivors include his sons: Ivey Velton Frost and wife, Virginia, and Raymond M. Frost and wife, Lazane; daughter: Brenda Sue Murphy and husband, Benny Joe; eight grandchildren: Kathy Walker, Sharon Medina, Laura Frost, Jay Frost, Karla Stapleton, Natalie Murphy, Samantha Murphy, and Melanie Murphy; six great-grandchildren; brother: Clarence (Buddy) Frost; sister: Olla Mae Frost White . Pallbearers will be Billy Kennedy, Charles Flowers, Wayne Ervin, Oliver Moore, James Frost, and Ellis Auttonberry.

Robert "Bob" Grayson, 74 of Ruston, a former owner of Grayson Lincoln Mercury and Grayson Insurance Company died Friday at Lincoln General Hospital in Ruston following a sudden illness. Services will at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 1997, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston with Dr. Merlin W. Merrill officiating. interment will be in Pines Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Ruston. Mr. Grayson was a native of Gitano, MS, and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston. He was the past governor of the Ruston Moose Lodge and was a member of several civic clubs during his business career. He was also a member of the Happy Times R.V. Club and Cruzing Cajun R. V. Club.
Survivors include his wife: Micki Grayson of Ruston; mother Mary Scarbrough Grayson of Gitano, MS; two daughters and sons-in-law: Teri Grayson and Gerald Fontenot of Baton Rouge, and Shai Grayson and Billy James of Metairie; son: Gary Davis Grayson of Chattanooga, TN; five grandchildren: Stephany Ward of Pontotoc, MS, Shannon James, Staci James, Will James, all of Metairie, Rachel Fontenot of Baton Rouge; brother and sister-in-law: Hallan and Barbara Grayson of Gitano, MS; and sister: Maxine McHenry of Gitano, MS. Pallbearers will be Wiley Moore, R. A. Rigsby, Al Wilkerson, Carl Childs, James McGivney, and Joe Ward. Honorary pallbearers are O. G. Gammill, Jack Clark, and Greg Howard. Mr. Grayson's family request any planned memorials may be made to Methodist Children's Home, 901 S. Vienna St. Ruston, LA 71270.

Robert L. "Bob" Lawrence, 74 of Alexandria, died Friday, November 14, 1997 in his residence. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, November 17, 1997 in St. Francis Cabrini Church. interment will be in Greenwood Memorial park, Pineville, under direction of John Kramer & son. Mr. Lawrence, was a native of Parkersburg, Iowa and settled in Alexandria after serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a B-17 pilot during World War II. He was captured and held as a POW until his release in 1945. Mr.Lawrence received the Purple Heart and the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. He retired from the U. S. Air Force Reserve as a Lt. Col. He was the Retired Superintendent of the Alexandria Water Department after 27 years of service. At the time of his death, he was in his third term on the Alexandria City Council where he served as Vice President. Among other awards, he received the Charles E. Dunbar Award by the Louisiana civil Service League for outstanding performance of duties as a Civil Service employee.
Robert Lawrence is survived by his wife: Agnes Smith Berry Lawrence of Alexandria; sons: Charles Douglas Lawrence of Baton Rouge, Robert Staton Lawrence of Baton Rouge, Richard William Lawrence of canton, TX, Walter Wynne Lawrence of Baton Rouge, and Dr. John Russell Berry of Alexandria; daughters: Lynda Lawrence Blackwelder of Indianapolis, IN, Kathy Ann Lawrence of Monroe, Susan Laine Berry Miller of Alexandria, and Sally Berry Vanderlick of Alexandria; brother: William H. "Bill" Lawrence of Dunwoody, GA: sister: Jeanne Beckman of Council Bluffs, IA; 25 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.
A Christian wake service will be held at 7 p.m Sunday in the funeral home. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at John Kramer & Son. The family request memorials be sent to the Rapides Children's Advocacy Center's CASA Program, the Louisiana Lions Eye Foundation, the American Cancer Society or St. Francis Cabrini Church.

Nellie Neal Oswalt, 81 of Lake Providence, a retired farmer, died Friday. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church, Lake Providence. Burial will be at Providence Memorial Cemetery, Lake Providence, under direction of Cox Funeral Home, Lake Providence. Mrs. Oswalt was born February 15, 1916 and died November 15, 1997 at Lake Providence. Mrs. Oswalt was a longtime resident of East Carroll Parish where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lake Providence. She and her late husband, Earl Oswalt, farmed Tyrone Plantation from the late 1930s until the time of their deaths. They also were involved in other farming businesses including Massey-Harris Farm Equipment and the Carroll Gin Co.
Survivors include her son: E. K. "Sonny" Oswalt, and daughter-in-law, Jean Oswalt, of Lake Providence; granddaughters: Julie Oswalt Bryant, of Bedford, TX and Karen Oswalt Arcement of Shreveport; grandsons: David Oswalt of Lake Providence and Hal Oswalt of Monroe; great grandchildren: Mindy Oswalt, Cain Oswalt, Ashton Oswalt, Paul Arcement, and Erin Arcement. Pallbearers will be Grady W. Brown, William Harbour, Jack Hamilton, Reynold Minsky, Michael Brown, and Jim Bryant. Honorary pallbearers are George Lensing, Windell Downen, John S. "Bo" McKenzie, L. D. Crews, John O. Nelson, Captan Jack Wylie, and E. W. "Pop" Patrick.

Dixie G. Owen, 79 of Wisner, a social worker for the state of Texas , died Friday at St. Francis Medical Center. Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, at St. Columbas Episcopal church of Winnsboro with Rev. Fr. William Baldridge officiating. Burial will be in Oakley Cemetery near Gilbert, LA under direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro. She was an avid gardener and animal liver. Mrs. Owen was active in the Good Samaritan. She was the organist for the St. Columbas Episcopal Church.
Survivors include her son: Robert James Owen of Dallas, TX; daughter: Elizabeth Agnes Yellowkidney of Helena, Montana; one grandchild: Richard Gilbert Owen; six 1st cousins: Gilbert Hetherwick of Shreveport, June Hetherwick Winegeart of Houston, TX, Julia Gilbert Baker of Prairieville, LA, Henry Harangue of Denham springs, LA, and Hunter Harangue of Houston, TX. Pallbearers will be James Turner, Wink Allison, Eldon Brown, W. H. Roach, Dan Buchan, and Mike Watson.

Lois Simpson, 83 of Farmerville, a homemaker, died Saturday after a lengthy illness. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Evergreen Baptist Church, Bernice with Rev. Everett Geis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, under direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home, Farmerville. Mrs. Simpson was a member of First Baptist Church of Farmerville. She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Simpson and granddaughter, Amy Simpson. Survivors include her daughter: Earline Evans and husband, Mike, of Farmerville; two sons: Ira Simpson and wife, Carol Ann of Bernice, and Jerry Simpson and wife Brenda, of Monroe; two sisters: Madrell Kinney of Conroe, TX, and Mertice Baxter of Monroe; brother: J. C. Watson of Sheridan, AR; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Bo Barmore, Mike Evans, Jerry Simpson, Roger Simpson, Jimmy Simpson, and John Wortham.

J. B. Williams, 57 of Monroe, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 1997 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Burial will be in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Williams died November 14, 1997 at St. Francis Medical Center after a brief illness. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Era. Survivors include his wife, Elsie Williams, son: Trent Williams, mother: Francis Williams, three brothers, and five sisters.
