Brown
James Brown, 81
Funeral services for James B. Brown, 81, of Jonesboro were held March 8 at the Gayla Traina Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Dark officiating.

Mr. Brown died March 7 at the Jackson Parish Hospital.Born May 16, 1921 in Pollock, he was a retired caretaker.

He is survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Holton
Ruthie Holton, 85
Funeral services for Ruthie Holton, 85, of Benton were held March 10 at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Chestnut with the Rev. Gene Cumpton officiating.

Mrs. Holton died March 8 at Garden Park Nursing Home.

Born Sept. 30, 1917 in Chestnut, she was a retired bag tender from Continental Can Company.

She is survived by son, Bobby Ray Foster and wife Janis of Benton; daughter, Clydie Mae Bruney of Gulfport, Miss.; sister, L.M. Bonnett of Amite; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Chelette
Jesse Chelette, 99
Funeral services for Jesse Lee Chelette, 99, of Jonesboro were held Feb. 27 at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chris Crawford officiating. Burial followed in the McDonald Cemetery.Mr. Chelette died Feb. 26 at Lincoln General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was a member of the Jonesboro Nazarene Church and an avid reader.Mr. Chelette was preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Ann Chelette and his son, Randolph Chelette.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Chelette of Jonesboro; sons, Bowman Chelette of Snohomish, Wash. and Charles David Chelette of Lubbock, Texas ; daughters, Imogene Brymer of Jonesboro, Linda Driggers and husband Tommy of Bryceland and Verda Antee and husband Wayne of Jonesboro; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Barry Brymer, Tim Smith, Johnny Ponder, Wayne Foster, Travis Ables and J.T. Ables.

Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Hennigan
Rylee Hennigan
Funeral services for Rylee Kate Hennigan, infant, were March 2 held at the Mount Olive West Cemetery in Bienville Parish with the Rev. Dennis Anger of Cypress Street Church of God in West Monroe officiating.

She died Feb. 27 in Lafayette.

The child was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Archie Wilson and Leslie Hennigan.

She is survived by her parents, Greg and Robin Hennigan; sister, Kirby Claire Hennigan; maternal grandmother, Annie Wilson of Houston; paternal grandmother, Doris Hennigan of Jonesboro; maternal great-grandparents, Dorothy and Kirby Wilson of Bossier City; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Brazil
Robert Brazil, 57
Funeral services for Robert Earl Brazil, 57, of Chatham were held Feb. 22 at the Chatham Church of God in Christ. Burial followed in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Vixen.

Mr. Brazil died Feb. 12.He was a retired stamper.

Services were under the direction of King Funeral Home of Ruston.

Hood
Allen Hood, 87
Funeral services for Allen Elton Hood, 87, of Chatham were held Feb. 23 at the Fist Baptist Church in Chatham with the Revs. Bill Moore and Johnny Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Chatham Cemetery.

Mr. Hood died Feb. 21 in Ruston after a brief illness.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chatham where he served on the Board of Deacons and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. He was a retired teacher and coach for 34 years and was the past president of the Jackson Parish Retired Teachers Association. He was also a member of the Dalley Masonic Lodge No. 165, a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the Barak Shrine. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II, serving as an advanced scout in the 301st Infantry under General George Patton.

He was preceded in death by parents Allen T. and Christine Hood; sister, Sybil; brother Huey T. Hood; and granddaughter, Andrea Kay Farless.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nettie Lee Powell Hood of Chatham; daughters, Lynette Hood Farless and husband Andy of Mena, Ark. and Mary Beth Hood of Monroe; brother, Bill Hood and wife Jean of Bossier City; sisters, Lois Jordan of Minden, Lottie Franks and husband Dr. Bill Franks of Shreveport; Alice Kitchings and husband Bennett of Shreveport and Aline Upshaw and husband Erie Wayne of Bienville; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Honorary pallbearers were deacons of the First Baptist Church, Homer Allen, R.A. Brock, Steve Cole, Denmon Garner, Michael Farris, Dan Hicks, Ronnie Hightower, Bennett Kitchings, Ray V. Lindsay Jr., Jerry Lovett, Merl Miller, Roy Shivor, Delton Spillers, Erie Wayne Upshaw, Wayne Musselwhite and Bob Devine.

Pallbearers were Mark Carpenter, Ronnie Carpenter, Greg Freeland, Denny Garner, Steve Kitchings, Bobby Tidwell, Allen Upshaw and Wayne Whitman.

Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church of Chatham Building Fund, the American Heart Association or the church or charity of your choice.

Services were under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.

Machen
W.H. Machen, 90
Funeral services for W. H. “Bill” Machen, 90, of Jonesboro were held Feb. 9 at the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro with the Rev. Dr. Matthew Wohlfarth and the Rev. Malcom Self officiating.

Mr. Machen died Feb. 7He was a 69-year resident of Jackson Parish. He worked 42 years at the paper mill in Hodge, where he retired in 1972 as superintendent of maintenance for the entire mill.

He served as a deacon of the First Baptist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Mae Machen of Jonesboro; son, Jimmy Machen and wife Laura of Jonesboro; sisters, Sibyl Robinett of Nacogdoches, Texas and Juanita Brown of Bradenton, Fla.; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Thomas
Roy Thomas, 70
Funeral services for Roy Lee Thomas, 70, of Castor were held Feb. 20 at the New Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Revs. Joe Arnold, Herbert Whitten and Kelly Tingle officiating. Burial followed in the Carolina Cemetery in Saline.

Mr. Thomas died Feb. 18.He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Rev. Roy served the Lord as a minister and youth director in several churches and was presently a deacon in the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Castor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Thomas and one granddaughter, Melissa Arnold.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Wood Thomas of Castor; daughters, Lois Thomas Arnold and husband, the Rev. Joe Arnold of Ville Platte; Donna Thomas Moody and husband Bobby of Columbus, Ga. and Lee Ann Thomas Moss and husband Cliff of Castor; sisters, Faye Shackleford of Jonesboro and Nelda Driggers and husband Danny of Bossier City; eight grandchildren, Joseph Arnold Jr., Steven Arnold, Emily Arnold, Robert Moody Jr., Benjamin Moody, Ray Moss, Ryan Moss and Macey Moss; one great-grandchild, Alyssa Arnold; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Honorary pallbearers were Ray Moss, Ryan Moss and the deacons of New Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Pallbearers were Joe Arnold III, Steven Arnold, Cliff Moss, Robert Moody Sr., Robert Moody Jr. and Ben Moody.

Services were under the direction of Rockett Funeral Home of Ringgold.
