Castello
James Castello, 89
Graveside services for James Elmo Castello, 89, of Minden were held Feb. 5 at Jonesboro Cemetery with Bro. Dwayne M. Boudreaux officiating and burial following.

Mr. Castello died Feb. 1 at Forest Haven Nursing Home.

Born August 17, 1913, in St. Petersburg, Fla., he was a retired switchman for Bell Telephone Co., and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was also a past master and member of the Masonic Lodge #51 in Minden.

He is survived by sons James Elmo Castello Jr. of Orlando, Fla; Wayne Preston Castello of Gainesville, Fla.; and two grandchildren. Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Erwin
Corine Erwin, 84
Funeral services for Corine H. Erwin, 84, of Longview, Texas , were held Feb. 3 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with the Rev. Billy Ford officiating. Burial followed in Rosewood Park.

Mrs. Erwin died Jan. 31 in a Longview, Texas , hospital. Born Jan. 8, 1919, in Chatham, Mrs. Erwin was a loving wife, a homemaker and a member of Summerfield United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry J. and Sally Walker, and 12 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband, John H. Erwin, Jr. of Longview, Texas ; special niece, Teresa Hicks of Jonesboro, and a number of other nieces and nephews.Pallbearers were Tom Erwin, Kent Erwin, Ronnie Tolar, M.G. Erwin, Jimmie Hicks and Steve Porter.

Services were under the direction of Leroy Rader Funeral Home in Longview, Texas .

Holton
Roxanna Holton, 83
Funeral services for Roxanna Elaine Holton, 83, of Eros were held Feb. 12 at the Christ Community Church in Eros with Elder Ellis Lewis officiating. Burial followed in the Christ Community Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Holton died Feb. 10 at Landmark Nursing Center in West Monroe after a long illness.

Mrs. Holton was preceded in death by her husband William Elchoe Holton.

She is survived by son, Kevin Holton of Eros; special grandchildren, Jimmy Adams and wife Robin of Spring, Texas and Mike Adams and wife Vickie of West Monroe; nine other grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Adams, Mike Adams, Skeeter Yeager, Roy Rogers, Devon Yeager and Robert Robinson.

Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Meyers
Nelda Meyers, 75
Funeral services for Nelda Mae Meyers, 75, of Quitman were held Feb. 9 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Danny Stevenson and Dudley Poda officiating. Burial followed in the Antioch Cemetery.

Mrs. Meyers died Feb. 7 at Jackson Parish Hospital.

Born March 26, 1927 in Quitman, she was a housewife.

She is survived by son, Ronnie Meyers of Quitman; daughter, Sharon Meyers of Quitman; step-children, Randy Davis and wife Rene of Quitman; and grandchild, Nicholas Davis of Quitman.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Harvey, Duckie Mathis, Chris Roane, Donnie Blalock, Rusty Schoonover and Lamar Anderson.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Nardone
Danielle Nardone, 33
Danielle Taylor Nardone, 33, beloved wife of Jeff Nardone of Duluth, Ga., went to be with the Lord Feb. 3. Services were held Feb.8 at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Jonesboro with interment following in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Nardone graduated in 1987 with honors from Weston High School and with honors from the College of Nursing at Northeast Louisiana State University in 1991. She worked as a registered nurse at Glenwood Medical Center in Monroe, at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, and most recently at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. She was preceded in death by her uncle, Tommy Conn and her grandfather, Basil Conn. She is survived by her husband, Jeff; parents Jack and Eileen Taylor of Jonesboro; sister Carrie Taylor of Atlanta, Ga.; father-in-law and mother-in-law Joe and Jane Nardone of Avondale Estates, Ga.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jay and Kristen Nardone of Dunwoody, Ga.; maternal grandmother Margaret Conn of Jonesboro; paternal grandparents H.J. and Flora Taylor of Dodson; two nephews, A.J. and Nathan Nardone of Dunwoody, Ga.; aunts and uncles Nancy and Dennis Harberson, Sandra and Duane Hale, Debbie and Roy Parker, Shirley and Ernest Tubbs; and numerous cousins. Pallbearers were David Conn, Shane Hale, Wesley Hale, Heath Billberry, Jeremy Burns and Joe Wilson. Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the many churches and friends who prayed tirelessly for Danielle to be healed. Although not seen by us, we know that today her body is perfect in every way as she stands in the presence of God and the splendor of Heaven.

Peel
Ollie Peel, 94
Funeral services for Ollie Mae Peel, 94, of Jonesboro were held Jan. 17 at Beech Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Larry Jinks officiating. Burial followed at Antioch Cemetery in Quitman.

Mrs. Peel died Jan. 15 at Jackson Parish Hospital. Born May 30, 1908, in Jonesboro, she was a loving mother, homemaker, and retired lunchroom worker. She was a lifelong member of Beech Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Peel is survived by daughter Elaine Pierce and husband James, and daughter Sue Cockerham, all of Jonesboro; daughter Alice Hinton and husband Carroll of Sulphur; son Winfred Peel and wife Juanita of Jonesboro; son Wilfred Peel and wife May of Boyce; son Bobby Peel and wife Inell of Pineville; son Johnny Peel and wife DeLane of Sulphur; son Ricky Peel and wife Yvonne of Jonesboro; 27 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mrs. Peel’s grandsons.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Pinckard
Lawrence Pinckard, 82
Funeral services for Lawrence Screven Pinckard Jr., 82, of Bienville were held Feb. 11 at the Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert R. Leach officiating. Burial followed in the Friendship Cemetery.

Mr. Pinckard died Feb. 8 at Healthsouth North Louisiana Rehabilitation Hospital.

Born July 8, 1920 in Montgomery, he was a retired storeowner.

Mr. Pinckard was a member and deacon of the Friendship Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Caroline Dorman Nature Preserve and a member of the Bienville Depot Museum.

He is survived by sons, George Pinckard and wife Paula of Bienville and John Pinckard and wife Sandra of Winnsboro; brother, Benjamin Pinckard and wife Delores of Colfax; grandchildren, Christy Pinckard of Winnsboro, Matthew L. Pinckard of Bellevue, Neb. and Elizabeth Pinckard Morgan and husband Charles Jeff of Long Beach, Miss.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers were Malvin Hall, W.E. Barron Jr., Tim Andrews, Harold Bond, Andy Hall and Rand Knotts.

Pallbearers were Wayne Durbin, Charles Barron, Jody Hall, Talton Barron, Billy Lewis and Kyle Leach.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Scott
Randolph Scott, 78
Funeral services for Randolph Scott, 78, of Chatham were held Feb. 8 at Mt. Mariah Baptist Church in Chatham. Burial followed at the church cemetery. Mr. Scott was a retired laborer. Services were under the direction of King Funeral Home in Ruston.

Tolar
James Tolar, 83
Funeral services for James “Jim” Tolar, 83, of Hodge were held Feb. 1 in the Chapel of Edmonds Funeral Home with Bro. Freddie Shows officiating. Burial followed in the Ebenezer Cemetery in Jonesboro. Mr. Tolar entered into rest on Jan. 29 in Bossier City.

Mr. Tolar volunteered for service to his country in July 1940 and proudly served nearly all of his 20-year career in the U.S. Army Airborne Corps. He was a platoon leader in Easy Company, 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, when he jumped with the first planeload of paratroopers to invade Hitler’s Europe. Later in the war, he also jumped into Holland in support of Operation “Market Garden.” After WWII, he transferred to the 82nd Airborne Division and participated in the Korean Conflict. Following Korea, he served the remainder of his career as a staff officer in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C., and retired in July 1960.After retirement, he moved his family to the Keithville, La., area where he was involved in the business of rural real estate. He was a member of Crawood Baptist Church, serving for a time as treasurer and Sunday School teacher. He later returned to his beloved Jackson Parish and quietly lived out his life in Hodge. He will be sadly missed by his loving family, relatives, friends and acquaintances, of which there are many.

Mr. Tolar was preceded in death by his mother, Willie Alma Watts; brother, infant Albert Wales Tolar; sister Yvonne Tolar; and the mother of his children, Mary Jane Stewart Tolar. Mr. Tolar is survived by his wife, Mrs. Louise Ponder Tolar of Hodge; a son, James K. Tolar and wife Patricia of Haughton; three daughters: Mary Lee Rudd and husband Robert of Greenwood, Linda Sue Madden and fiancee James Savage of Shreveport, and Elizabeth Tolar and fiancee Ricky Posey of Benton; a brother, William “Billy” Thomas Tolar and wife Peggy of Hallsville, Texas ; and a sister, Opal Ryan and husband Bill of Bossier City; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Stephen Watts, David Watts, John Watts, Brett Tolar, James Creighton and Michael Madden.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Phillips
Baron Phillips, 76
Funeral services for Baron R. Phillips, 76, of Jonesboro were held Jan. 31 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joey Bignar officiating. Burial followed at Gayla Traina Cemetery.

Mr. Phillips died Jan. 30 in Jonesboro. Born Sept. 11, 1926, he was a retired machinist and a U.S. Navy veteran.

He is survived by wife Shirley Phillips of Jonesboro; daughter Debbie Ginn and husband Jerry of Jonesboro; daughter Ginger Boothe and husband Tom of Sherman, Texas ; sister Mary Jean Hayden of Tyler, Texas ; seven grandchildren: Greg Ginn, Gretchen Dell, Gayla Saulters, Jennifer Boothe, Kyle Boothe, Barry Boothe, and Courtney Boothe; four great-grandchildren: Grant Saulters, Gavin Saulters, Brooke Ginn and Mallory Ginn.

Pallbearers were Troy Smith, Emmett Hall, Hank Lowery, Jimmy Teat, Ed Rich and Eugene Norred.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Riser
Mary Riser, 67
Funeral services for Mary Elaine Riser, 67, of Goldonna were held Feb. 5 at Goldonna Baptist Church with the Rev. Doyle McGrew officiating. Burial followed in the Goldonna Cemetery.

Mrs. Riser died Feb. 3 in the Winn Parish Medical Center. Born in Goldonna, she was a school bus driver in the Natchitoches Parish school system for 27 years. She was a member of Goldonna Baptist Church.

Mrs. Riser was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rookh Williams; husband Millard Riser; and daughters Carol Beal, Judy Adkins and Marsha Riser.

She is survived by brothers John C. Williams and wife Betty of DeRidder, Jimmy S. Williams and wife Myra, and sister Janie Beal of North Hodge; three grandchildren, Chad Adkins and wife Jill of Creston; Jennifer Clark and husband Greg of Winnfield, and April Thompson and husband Ralph of Creston; six great-grandchildren: Caitlin and Lacey Hemphill; Ashley Clark; Payton, Hunter; Kylie and Jadynn Thompson; and Laken and Presley Thompson.

Services were held under the direction of Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield.

Roberts
Mary Roberts, 86
Funeral services for Mary Thomason Roberts, 86, of Jonesboro were held Feb. 1 at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel, with Myron Madden officiating. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories. Ms. Roberts died Jan. 29 in Shreveport.

Born April 28, 1916, she was a retired woodyard employee of Continental Can Co. She is survived by a brother, Homer Thomason of Sildell; sister Louise Misenheimer of Monroe, N.C.; sister Lillian Hinely of Jackson ville, Fla.; and sister Nell Murphy of Columbus, Ga. Pallbearers were Jr. Williams, Steve Williams, Rickey Griffin, Gene Dark, Carl Plant and James Smith.

Services were held under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Kelly
Buena Kelly, 71
Funeral services for Buena Vista Caldwell Kelly, 71, of Evanston, Ill., were held Jan. 31 at B.E. King Chapel in Ruston with burial following at Ebenezer Cemetery, also in Ruston. Ms. Kelly died Jan. 17.She was a retired postal clerk.

Services were under the direction of King Funeral Home.
