Shyann Nicole Baker

COVINGTON - The two month old daughter of Emma Clawson and David Baker died Sunday at Lakeview Medical Center in Covington.

She is also survived by her brother Thomas Clawson, II; one sister Deana Clawson; grandparents, Shirley and Earl Boone of Bogalusa and Glenda Baker and Dave Sherman. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Corkern-Caves Cemetery near Springhill.

Crain Funeral home is in charge.

Virginia Knight

(Died August 31, 1999)

BOGALUSA - Visitation will be held today from 1:30 to 11 p.m. at the Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home for Virginia Knight, 63, who died yesterday at her residence, 1829 Willow Road, Bogalusa. Visitation will continue tomorrow at 8 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Eld. Jerry Blackwell, Eld. Richard Magee, Eld. James Broome, Eld. Donnie Barber and the Rev. Lynn Martin will officiate, with internment following in Ponemah Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Eld. Lavelle Knight of Bogalusa; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Greg McKenzie of Sheridan, Wanda and Douglas Freeman of Pine and Naomi and Shane Hunt of Lebanon, TN; a son and daughter-in-law, Percy Lavelle Knight Jr. and Bridget Knight of Bogalusa; eight grandchildren Rebekah Hunt, Shelley Hunt, Caroline Virginia Knight, Michael Carroll, Stephen McKenzie, Jason McKenzie, Christopher Hunt and Payton Knight, and eight great grandchildren.

Hezzie A. Parker

(Died Aug. 28, 1999)

BOGALUSA - Funeral services for Hezzie A. Parker, 76, a resident of Bush, La., were scheduled for 10 a.m. today from the Brown-McGehee Funeral Home chapel, Lynn Martin officiating.

Burial followed in the McGehee Cemetery, Brown-McGehee Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Parker died Aug. 28, 1999 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond.

Visitation was from 5:30-10 p.m. Sunday at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home and continued from 8 a.m. Monday until the time of the services.

Mr. Parker was a member of Ben's Ford Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local No. 60. Mr. Parker was preceded in death by a son, Charles Deron Parker, and two sisters, Myrtie Nation and Rita Cornet.

He is survived by his wife, LaJune McGehee Parker, Bush; three daughters, Donna Blackwell, Bush, Denise Barnes, Madisonville, and Diane Walker, Jackson ville, Fla.; a son, Douglas Parker, Bogalusa; a sister, Louise Mancina, Stockton, N.J.; three brothers, Dr. Clea Parker, Hammond, Floyd Parker, Covington and Guy Parker, Hammond, and 12 grandchildren.

Miss Jackie Seals

(Died Aug. 28, 1999)

POPLARVILLE, Miss. - Funeral services for Miss Jackie Seals, 69, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel Baptist Church in the Buck Branch community of Poplarville, with the Revs. Richard Bailey and Dan Finley officiating jointly.

Burial will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in the Buck Branch community, White Funeral Home of Poplarville directing.

Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. Monday at White Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to Tuesday's services.

Miss Seals died Aug. 28, 1999 at Bogalusa Community Medical Center.

Miss Seals was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in the Buck Branch community and was a retired machine operator with Crown Zellerbach of Bogalusa.

She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Minnie Seals, Poplarville, and three sisters, Gloria Jordan, Poplarville, Dale Carrier, Bogalusa, and Dot Rester, Zachary, La.

Pallbearers will be Louis Carrier, Joe Ard Williams, Mark Hathorne, Daniel Smith, Richard Young and Randolph Dillard.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and friends of Bethel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Alice Fay Strahan

(Died Aug. 29, 1999)

BOGALUSA - Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Fay Strahan, 51, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Brown-McGehee Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Ben Mullins officiating.

Burial will follow in Ponemah Cemetery, Brown-McGehee Funeral Home directing.

Visitation is from 5-10 p.m. today and continues at 8 a.m. tomorrow until the time of the services.

Mrs. Strahan died Aug. 29, 1999 at the Bogalusa Community Medical Center.

She was a native and resident of Bogalusa.

Mrs. Strahan was preceded in death by her husband, Levert Strahan, a son, Preston Schilling, a sister, Dixie Mae Thomas, and her parents, Arnie Hilton Taylor and Mavis Elizabeth Barber Taylor .

She is survived by two daughters, Ms. Connie Schilling and Ms. Donna Polk, both residents of Bogalusa; three sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Regina Taylor , Donald and Karen Schilling and Hilton and Charlotte Schilling, all residents of Bogalusa; a step son and his wife, Rafael and Beverly Trevino Jr., and her fianc‚, Ralph Trevino; three sisters, Mrs. Irene Thomas, Sandy Hook, Miss., and Mrs. Rachael Young and Mrs. Billie Sue Hill, both residents of Bogalusa, 15 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Essie Moak Penton

(Died Aug. 31, 1999)

Funeral arrangements have been completed for Essie Moak Penton, 80, a resident of Franklinton who died this morning at the Riverside Medical Center. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 p.m.-10 p.m. and after 9 a.m. at the Crain Funeral Home where the funeral services will held at 2 p.m. Eld. Edward Penton, Eld. Ted Phillips and Eld. Gary Sumrall will be officiating at the ceremony. interment will be held in the Ellis Cemetery.

A member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church, Mrs. Penton was survived by her husband, George Kelly Penton of Franklinton; one son Roy Penton of Franklinton; two sisters Grace Burch of Franklinton and Evon Rouse of Houston; one brother Percy Moak, Jr. of Franklinton; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Rachel Burch; a son Kelly Roy Penton and a sister Margie Moak.

Johnny Rogers

(Died Aug. 30, 1999)

Funeral arrangements have been completed for Johnny Rogers, 83, a resident of Franklinton who died at 12:15 p.m. on Monday at the Heritage Manor. Visitation will be held today after 9 a.m. at the Crain Funeral Home where the funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. The Rev. W.L. Tullos will be officiating. interment will be in the Thomas Cemetery.

Rogers was a retired engineer for Washington Western Railroad and a member of the Trinity Baptist Church.

He was survived by one daughter Pauline Cosse of Franklinton; one son Ronald J. Rogers of Franklinton; three sisters Carrie Venable of Shreveport, Nell Taylor of Zachary and Valerie Graves of Walker; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ernestine C. Rogers.

Glenn L. Dowdy

BOGALUSA - Glenn Lamar Dowdy, age 61, owner of Maria's Mexican Restaurant, died at 6:30 a.m. today in the Washington -St. Tammany Regional Medical Center.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, officiated by the Rev. Philip Stagg, assisted by the Rev. Dennis Allen. Entombment will follow in Sanctuary of Peace Mausoleum in Ponemah Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home, continuing at 10 a.m. on Friday at the church until time for the funeral service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis C. Dowdy and Ethel Herrin Dowdy.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Dowdy; three daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Keith Strickland of Prairieville, Darleen and James Heartfield of Soddy Daisy, TN, Kensy and Lee Palmer of Bogalusa; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Carlos Glenn and Becky Dowdy of Crossroads and Hector Dowdy of Bogalusa; a brother and sister-in-law, Royce and Patty Dowdy of Bogalusa; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Merle and Hal Hinote, and Eddie Marie and Jerry Anderson, all of Bogalusa; five grandchildren, Garrett Strickland, Maegan Strickland, Cory Heartfield, Camille Heartfield and Molly Dowdy; many nieces and nephews.

Rev. O. Dewitt Jenkins

(Died August 30, 1999)

BOGALUSA The Rev. O. Dewitt Jenkins, age 65, died Monday in Riverside Medical Center, Franklinton. A native and resident of the Talleytown community in St. Tammany Parish, he was former assistant pastor at New Beginning Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gleta Cooper Jenkins; a son, Hilliard Dewitt Jenkins and his wife, Dana of McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey; four daughters, Deleta Gayle Jenkins-Huhn of Loranger, Theresa Jenkins Neal and her husband, Keith Neal of Loranger, Deidra Jenkins Ashburn of Talleytown and Cathy Jenkins of Lake Charles; eight grandchildren, Scott Neal, Jennifer Ashburn, Austin Jenkins, Jean Huhn, Jessica Huhn, Megan Cooper and Dillon Jenkins; two brothers, Virgil Jenkins of Pumpkin Center and D. Denton Jenkins of Bogalusa; and a sister, Illa Lea Jenkins Smith of Albany, LA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Outher Jenkins and Alma Louise Talley Jenkins; and a brother, Titus Jenkins.

Visitation will be from 5 to 10 p.m. today at the Brown-McGehee Funeral Home in Bogalusa, continuing tomorrow at 8 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev.

Dr. Frank Gutierrez and the Rev. Emile Tosso will officiate, with burial following in the Talley's Chapel Cemetery in Talleytown.

Elise Dumiot Mevers

BOGALUSA - A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Annunciation Catholic Church for Mrs. Elise Dumiot Mevers, 86, who died Saturday at her residence in Bogalusa.

A native of Houma and a former resident of New Orleans, Mrs. Mevers moved to Bogalusa and became an active member of Annunciation Church in 1934. She recently received the St. Louis Medallion in recognition of her 60 years of outstanding service to the Catholic church.

Mrs. Mevers was an avid supporter and participant in Mill Town Players and did volunteer service for the Bogalusa Community Medical Center., the Hospice of St. Tammany, the Annunciation Catholic School library and the Zion Lutheran Church braille program.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Esper R. Mevers; her parents, Gustave Camile and Gertrude Agnes Price Dumiot; a sister, Emma Lombardo; and a brother, Gustave Dumiot Jr.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Charles Alfred Seal of Bogalusa; a son and daughter-in-law, Gus and Mary Ann Mevers of Los Angeles, CA; two granddaughters and their spouses, Jane and Jimmy Hernandez of Bogalusa and Dianne and Steve Coleman of Hattiesburg; and six grandchildren, Laura Stewart, Candy Stewart, Jim Hernandez and Jessica Hernandez, all of Bogalusa, Amy Wild and Danielle Coleman of Hattiesburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Annunciation Catholic Church or School, or to the Hospice of St. Tammany at 1202 S. Tyler Street, Covington LA.

Acey Mitchell Jr.

(Died Sept. 21, 1999)

BOGALUSA - The funeral service for Acey Mitchell Jr., age 61, will be held at 1 p.m. today in the Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home. interment will follow in the Dillard Cemetery. A resident of Bogalusa, he died at 9 p.m. Tuesday in Slidell Memorial Hospital, Slidell.

He is survived by his wife, Florence Dillard Mitchell of Bogalusa; two daughters, Rebecca Elaine Hardin of Buras and Carolyn Elizabeth Lewis of Hollywood, CA; two sons, John Carlton Lewis of Port Sulphur and Charles Henry Mitchell of Buras; three sisters, Pauline Carrol of Phoenix, AZ, Jane Cox of Brevard, NC and Linda Dillard of Boothville; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Hutchins.

Visitation was held yesterday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, and continued today at 8:30 a.m. until time for the funeral service.

Andrew Kwasny

(Died Sept. 17, 1999)

BOGALUSA - Andrew Kwasny, age 74, died at 11:55 p.m. last Friday in Houston, TX. He was a former resident of Bogalusa.

He is survived by a daughter, Dru Naradovy of Houston; two grandsons, Chris Naradovy and Byran Naradovy, both of Houston; two sisters, Elizabeth Gillen and Emily Kwasny, both of Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Lee Seirsdale Kwasny.

A graveside service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in Ponemah Cemetery. The Rev. Hulen Warren, pastor of the Elizabeth Sullivan Memorial United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Johnnie Lee Mitchell

BOGALUSA - The funeral service for Mrs. Johnnie Lee Mitchell, age 59, was held yesterday at 2 p.m. in the Brown-McGehee Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Rupert Breland officiated, with interment following in Ponemah Cemetery.

Mrs. Mitchell, a resident of 108 Graham Drive, Bogalusa, died Saturday in Bogalusa Community Medical Center.

She is survived by a son, John Lester Mitchell of Bogalusa; two daughters, Tracy Lynn Mitchell Seals of Baton Rouge and Darla Leigh Mitchell Hartfield of Bogalusa; a sister, Barbara Graham Lawrence of Mobile; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David "Jug" Mitchell; and a brother, Harold Mitchell Graham.

Visitation was held Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, and continued yesterday at 8 a.m. until time for the funeral service.
