Mrs. Lyvonne Massengale

(Died Jan. 8, 2000)

BOGALUSA - Funeral services for Mrs. Lyvonne Massengale, 63, a resident of 324 Caswell St. in Bogalusa, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday in the Brown-McGehee Funeral Home chapel.

Visitation is from 4-9 p.m. today, continuing Monday after 8 a.m. until the time of the services.

Burial will follow in the Pine First Baptist Church cemetery, Brown-McGehee Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Massengale died Jan. 8, 2000 at Ochsner Foundation Hospital in Jefferson , La.

Mrs. Massengale was a member of Pine First Baptist Church.

She is survived by four daughters. Brenda M. Sinesi, Key Largo, Fla., Karen M. Adams, Baton Rouge, La., Joan M. Rice, Mandeville, La., and Kristi M. Thomas, Poplarville, Miss.; three sons, Calvin Edgar Massengale, Columbia, Miss., James Roy Massengale, Franklinton, La., and David Earl Massengale, Picayune, Miss.; four sisters, Annie Ruth Lee, Eloise Mims and Louise Casey, all residents of Mobile, Ala., and Bernice Trimble, North Carolina; three brothers, Gaston Lee and Kenneth Lee, both residents of Mobile, Ala., and James Lee, Tampa, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Robert L. 'Bobby' Davis

(Died Nov. 4, 1999)

BOGALUSA - Robert L. "Bobby" Davis, age 64, a resident of Bogalusa, died yesterday in Riverside Medical Center, Franklinton. A U.S. Navy veteran, he was a member of the American Legion and a retired mechanic.

He is survived by his wife, Betty M. Davis of Bogalusa; a son, Bennett Leslie Davis of North Carolina; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Jan Kristi Davis and Damien Taylor of Bogalusa, Robin Leslie Davis and Larry Galloway of Isabel, Linda Lynn Davis and Willie Ray Simmons of Bogalusa, Sarah Lee Davis and Dent Dykes of Sun, Joan Nell Creel Pennington of Baton Rouge and Cathy Ann Creel Sherburne of Baton Rouge; a brother, George Walter Davis of Belle Chasse; two sisters, Carolyn Dodds of Ocean Springs and Shirley Ann Myrick of Poplarville; and eight grandchildren, Megan L. Bickham, Anna Stevens, Chad Miller, Jennifer Miller, Hannah Bickham, Jeremy Dykes, Karah Dykes and Leeah Galloway.

Visitation will be today from 4 to 10 p.m. at the Brown-McGehee Funeral Home, continuing after 8 a.m. tomorrow until time for the funeral service at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Paul Coarse will officiate, with interment following in Ponemah Cemetery.

Luvell Hartzog Woodward

(Died Nov. 5, 1999)

ANGIE - Luvell Hartzog Woodward, age 85, died today at her residence in Angie.

She is survived by a son, Robert S. Woodward of Franklinton; five daughters, Christine Woodward of Reserve, Elvia Taylor of Angie, Sylvia Phelps of Foxworth, Evaline Rowell of Tylertown and Flora Mae Thompson of Bogalusa; a brother, James Hartzog of Angie; 23 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at the Brown-McGehee Funeral Home from 6 p.m. tomorrow until time for the funeral service on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. John Pounders will officiate, with interment following in the Nobles Cemetery at Pine.

Craig Alan Matthews

(Died Nov. 4, 1999)

BOGALUSA - Craig Alan Matthews, age 37, died yesterday at his residence in Angie. A native and life-long resident of Angie, he is survived by his mother, Merle Pounds Matthews of Angie; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Charles Matthews of Angie, and Bennie and Donna Matthews of Bogalusa; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Brenda and Roy Warren of North Carolina, Barbara Curless of Angie, and Donna and Drew Edwards of Pennsylvania ; three nephews, Dustin and Shaun Brauner and Jonathan Edwards, and two nieces, Jennifer and Britney Edwards.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Matthews.

Visitation will be today from 3 to 10 p.m. at the Brown-McGehee Funeral Home, continuing tomorrow at 8 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. R.C.

Branch will officiate, with interment following in the Seal Cemetery at Varnado.

Christine Hopkins Thomas

(Died Oct. 30, 1999)

BOGALUSA - Christine Hopkins Thomas, age 59, died Saturday at her residence in Golden Meadow.

She is survived by a two sons, James Thomas of Houma and Jefferson Thomas of Maurepas; a daughter, Christy Lynn Adams of Grand Isle; two brothers, Lonnie Hopkins of Pascagoula and Lester Hopkins; three sisters, Mildred Isaic, Martha Ann and Joyce Hopkins; and 15 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Thomas; a son, Alton Thomas Jr.; and a brother, Hoppie Hopkins.

Visitation will be today from 3 to 10 p.m. at the Brown-McGehee Funeral Home. The funeral service and interment will be at a later date. It is requested that flowers be omitted.

Robert Eugene Baker

(Died Feb. 10, 2000)

BOGALUSA - The funeral service for Robert Eugene Baker, 76, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Brown-McGehee Funeral Home, the Rev. John Kittrell of First Baptist Church officiating.

Visitation is from 5-10 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and will continue Sunday after 8 a.m. until time of the service.

Graveside military rites will follow at Ponemah Cemetery.

Mr. Baker died Thursday in Bogalusa Community Medical Center.

He is a native and life-long resident of Bogalusa. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran and served in World War II.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard (Pearl) Baker and a brother, Julius Baker.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lillie Mae Scruggs Baker, Bogalusa; two sons, Robert E. (Katie) Baker Jr. and Roger Dale (Cheryl) Baker, Bogalusa; four daughters, Barbara Ann (George Harvey) Kennedy, Varnado, Elizabeth Pearl Fairburn, Bogalusa, Gwen Carroll Sherman, Bogalusa and Mona Lisa (John) Grantham, Denham Springs; a sister, Anna Lou Ingram, Poplarville, MS; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

David Wayne Brooks

(Died Feb. 8, 2000)

BOGALUSA The funeral service for David Wayne Brooks, 34, of Bogalusa, will be held at noon tomorrow in the chapel of Brown-McGehee Funeral Home, the Rev. Willie Pierce officiating. He died Tuesday.

Visitation is from 4:30 to 10 p.m. today at the funeral home and continues tomorrow after 8 a.m. until time of service.

He is preceded in death by his father, Alcuse Brooks.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Brooks, Franklinton; a step-son, John Brooks Jr., Tyler-town; step-daughters, Nichole Faye Brooks, and Dixie Rene' Brooks, Franklinton; his mother, Juanita Brooks, Bogalusa; three brothers, John Brooks Sr., Tylertown, Alcuse Wayne Brooks, Chalmette, and Huey Phillip Brooks, Tennessee; two sisters, Billie Faye Brooks, Bogalusa, and Essie Mae Gros, Denham Springs; a nephew, John Phillip Brooks, Bogalusa; and a niece, Earline Juanita Brooks, Bogalusa.

Esther Viola Baker

(Died Feb. 8, 2000)

BOGALUSA - The funeral service for Esther Viola Baker, age 90, a resident of 330 White Williams Road, will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at New Hope Church of Christ Holiness USA, 1108 Warren Street, Boga-lusa, the Eld. McDonald Crain officiating.

Burial will follow in the Bogalusa Cemetery, Crain and Sons directing.

Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia (Fletcher) Anderson, Bogalusa; a son, Phillip L. Baker, Bogalusa; two brothers, Thadeus Watson, Folsom and Theordore H. Watson, Houston, TX; four sisters, Joyce Hayden, Edith Dyson, both of San Franciso, CA, Serena Thomas, New Orleans and Temple Augerson, Franklinton; special nephews, Benjamin Watson, NJ; Charles Watson, NJ and Oliver Watson, Chicago, IL; six grandchildren, Sona (Michael) Smith, Garland, TX, Gamble (Jerry) Rudd and Patrick Anderson, both of Dallas, TX; three great grandchildren, Jered A. Rudd, Fletcher A. Rudd, Dallas, TX and Cynthia Rose Smith, Garland, TX.

Kenneth Jones

(Died Jan. 8, 2000)

BOGALUSA - Funeral services for Kenneth Jones, 64, a resident of Bogalusa, are scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday at Crain's Creek Missionary Baptist Church with Elder Willie J. Passman and Revs. Coma River and Calvin Baldwin officiating.

Visitation is after 3 p.m. Sunday and continuing until 2:15 p.m. Monday at Crain Funeral Home in Franklinton.

Burial, with full military honors, will follow in the Crain's Creek Missionary Baptist Church cemetery, Crain Funeral Home directing. Mr. Jones died Jan. 8, 2000 in Bogalusa Community Medical Center.

A retired member of the United States Navy, Mr. Jones served two tours of duty in Vietnam and, following retirement from the military, served as a deputy for the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Gertrude Crain Jones, two brothers, Eldridge Jones and Elvin Jones, and two sisters, Margie Magee and Joyce McDonald.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Schexnider Jones, Bogalusa; four daughters, Teresa Martin and Juline Jones, both residents of Franklinton, Olevia Riley, Bogalusa, and Susan Jones, Kokomo, Miss.; one son, Kenneth Jones II, Franklinton; six sisters, Clearmenthia Magee, Doris Magee, Shirley Thomas, Paulette Phelps, Elois Lee and Elouise Jones, all residents of Franklinton; three brothers, Malloye Jones and Aubrey Jones, both residents of Franklinton, and Hunter Jones, Dallas, Texas , and five grandchildren.

Larcenia Lewis Thompson

(Died Jan. 1, 2000)

FRANKLINTON - The funeral service for Larcenia Lewis Thompson, 80, a resident of Pascagoula, MS, is scheduled for 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Sweet Rest Missionary Baptist Church, the Rev. Mallery Callahan officiating.

Burial will follow at Sweet Home Memorial Park Cemetery in Franklinton, with Dickey Brothers Funeral Home, Biloxi, MS directing. Ms. Thompson died Saturday at Chateau Deville Nursing Home in Pascagoula, MS.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Thompson and two daughters, Mayfus Johnson and Betty Dyson.

Survivors include five sons, Joe Thompson, Angie, James Thompson, Pascagoula, Kerry Thompson, Angie, Roy Thompson, Franklin-ton and Michael Thompson, Slidell; four daughters, Lillie Green, Pascagoula, Nezzie Lee James, Franklinton, Thelma Thompson, Milwaukee, WI and Geraldine Thompson, Gauiter, MS; a sister, LoraDee Lewis Warren, Mt. Hermon; a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Mary Elizabeth Pope Seal

(Died Jan. 6, 2000)

VARNADO - The funeral service for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Pope Seal, 74, a resident of Varnado, is scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Poole-Ritchie funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Jim Shook and the Eld. Billy Ray Hines officiating.

Burial will follow in Seal Cemetery at Varnado with Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home with an Order of the Eastern Star ceremony conducted by Pushepatappa and Jessamine OES at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue after 9 a.m. Saturday until time for the funeral service.

Mrs. Seal, who died yesterday at 7:24 p.m. in the LSU Washington -St. Tammany Regional Medical Center, was the daughter of Willie and Bessie Boone Pope, born Aug. 22, 1925 in Angie. She was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Varnado and a member and Past Worthy Matron of Pushepatappa Chapter No. 239, Order of the Eastern Star.

She was married to Leroy "Slick" Seal on March 15, 1941. Of this union four children were born.

Mrs. Seal co-owned with her husband the Community Grocery Store in Varnado for many years. After she closed the store, she worked for the Meals on Wheels delivering lunches to the elderly. She was always known to have food on her table for anyone who stopped by her home and was always willing to help those less fortunate in the community.

Mrs. Seal was a loving mother and wife. The last several years of her life was a testimony to her determination.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Bessie Boone Pope; two brothers, William Pope and James Edward Pope.

Survivors include her husband, Leroy "Slick" Seal, who cared for her during her lengthy illness; four children, Eathel Seal, Stanley Seal, Randy "Country" Seal and James Roy Seal; three daughters-in-law, Linda Thomas Seal, Sheila Brennan Seal and Donna Gerald Seal; 14 grandchildren, Kevin (Laura) Lawson, Tren Lawson (Jason) Garbo, Dean (Dana) Seal, Scott (Julie) Seal, Emilie Seal, Victoria Seal, Josh Seal, Christi Seal, Rand Seal, Derrick Seal, Leroy "Lee" Seal II, Sarah Beth Seal, Fallon Barber and Sheyenne Seal; three great-grandchildren, Kelsey Lawson, Christian Lawson and Addison Seal; four sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Willie B. McKelphin

(Died Jan. 1, 2000)

BOGALUSA - The funeral service for Willie B. McKelphin, 69, a resident of Bogalusa, is scheduled at noon Saturday at Crain and Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Cyrus officiating.

Burial will follow in the Bogalusa Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 10-11 a.m. until time for the final service.

Mr. McKelphin died Saturday in the Bogalusa Community Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hosea (Etta) McKelphin; granddaughter, Jacqueline Denise Payne; and grandson, Kercuant Devon McKelphin.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia (Sylvester) Williams, Bogalusa and Brenda (Leonard) Allen, New Orleans; three sons, Willie Ray (Lorna) McKelphin, Jackson , LA, Larry McKelphin and Glennis McKelphin, both of Bogalusa; two sisters, Ernestine Young and Aristine Johnson , both of Bogalusa; a brother, Hebert (Emma) McKelphin, Bogalusa; an aunt, Ollie James; two uncles, Hurlen Holts, Bogalusa, Luther McKelphin, Tylertown, MS; a companion, Betty .

Helen Bolton Jefferson

(Died Jan 4, 2000)

BOGALUSA - The funeral service for Helen Bolton Jefferson , 66, a resident of Bogalusa, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Allen Temple Church, with the Rev. Robert Williams officiating.

Burial will follow in the Bogalusa Cemetery, Visitation will be tomorrow from 2-6 p.m. at the Cook-Richmond Funeral Home.

Ms. Jefferson died Tuesday in Dixon Medical Center, Covington.

She was born to the late Clev and Emma Bolton on March 8, 1933 in Bogalusa. She was known for her warmness and generosity. She took in many family members and friends when times were hard.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Clara Harden and Rose Marie Hall; and a son, Robert Craft.

Survivors include three sons, Fred R. "Wonder" Jefferson , Dallas, TX, Brandon Jefferson and Kareem Jefferson , both of Bogalusa; a daughter, Emma D. (Jerry) Ward, Bogalusa; two sisters, Ruby Montgomery, Bogalusa, Raymell "Rogis" Toomer, Franklinton; three brothers, Willie J. Bolton, Homestead, FL, Clev Bolton, Bogalusa and William Bolton, Bogalusa; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
