Mrs. Peggy Sue Stafford

(Died Jan. 15, 2000)

BOGALUSA - Funeral services for Mrs. Peggy Sue Stafford, 57, a native and resident of Varnado, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Southern Baptist Church of Varnado, the Rev. R.C. Branch officiating.

Burial will follow in the Seal Cemetery in Varnado, Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home directing.

Family visitation is from 5-5:30 p.m. today at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home. Regular visitation is from 5:30-9 p.m. today and continues from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday.

Mrs. Stafford died Jan. 15, 2000 in the Washington -St. Tammany Regional Medical Center in Bogalusa.

Mrs. Stafford was preceded in death by her parents, Milous and Judy Seal, two sons, Johnnie and Brian Seal, a sister, Evelyn Bean, and a brother, Dewayne Seal.

She is survived by her husband, Lavon Stafford, Varnado; a daughter, Debbie Netherland and her fianc‚, Philip Doty, Bogalusa; a sister, Lexie Thomas, Bogalusa; two brothers, Leroy "Slick" Seal, Varnado, and Max Seal, Houma, La., two grandsons, Joey Netherland and Michael Doty.

Mr. Lewie Gates

(Died Jan. 14, 2000)

BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Funeral services for Mr. Lewie Gates, 72, a native of Bogalusa and a resident of Glynn County, Ga. for the past 12 years, is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. today in the Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home chapel, Father Cletus Pifher officiating.

Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Palmetto Cemetery, Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Visitation was from 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Mr. Gates died Jan. 14, 2000 at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center in Brunswick, Ga.

Mr. Gates came to Georgia 12 years ago from Gulfport, Miss. He was retired from the United States Air Force, serving in both the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Gates, Brunswick, Ga.; four daughters, Connie Fox, Gulfport, Miss., Carlene Kinstle, Debbie Smith and Darlene Guy, all residents of Brunswick, Ga.; three sons, Jimmy Gates, Saucier, Miss., and Johnny Gates and Larry Gates, both residents of Gulfport, Miss.; 22 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will be Darren Fox, Derrick Fox, Bryant Powell, Michael Kinstle, Gary Sellers and Jason Bailes.

The family has suggested that those wishing to do so may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, Glynn County Union, P.O. Box 1040, Brunswick, Ga. 31521-1040.

Mrs. Clara S. Chrismond

(Died Jan. 1, 2000)

ZACHARY - Funeral services for Clara S. Chrismond, 98, a resident of Zachary, are scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow.

Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. today at Charlet Funeral Home in Zachary and will continue tomorrow after 9 a.m until the time of services.

Burial will be in Azalea Rest Cemetery.

Clara S. Chrismond died Jan. 1, 2000 at Lane Memorial Hospital Nursing Home.

She was a retired school teacher with the Bogalusa school district and was an active member of Zachary United Methodist Church and Phenie Williams church circle. She was also a member of Zachary Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lon Chrismond and a daughter, Faye Lindsey.

Survivors include a sister, Beatrice Douglas, Greenfield, Miss.; a brother, Billy Simpson, Slaughter; three nephews, Harold Douglas, Dr. Joe Leigh Simpson and Freddie Simpson; six nieces, Rachel Ann Norris, Betty Upchurch, Velma Kilpatrick, Winifred Simpson, Jeannie Farmer and Linda Young.

Sgt. Marcus LeShon Whitson

(Died Jan. 1, 2000)

ANCHORAGE, AK - The funeral service for Sgt. Marcus LeShon Whitson, 28, a resident of Anchorage, AK, is scheduled tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the Wesley Ray United Methodist Church in Angie, the Rev. Bruce L. Brown and the Rev. Linza Cotton officiating.

Burial will follow in the Lewis-Moses cemetery, with full military honors.

Visitation is from 2-5 p.m. today at the Cook-Richmond Funeral Home. A wake service will be today from 7-9 p.m. at the Wesley Ray United Methodist Church.

Sgt. Whitson died New Years Day at Fort Richardson in Anchor-age.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Frances Moses; paternal grandfather, Thomas L. Whitson Sr; his godparents, the late Rev. Joseph Sutton and the late Sis Hazel Sutton.

Survivors include two sons, Marcus Te'Von Whitson and LeShon Tari'k Whitson; his mother, Emma White ; his step-father, Robert J. White ; his father, Alex Jesse Whitson; a sister, Nydiea White ; a step-sister, Alicia Whitson; two step-brothers, Robert James White Jr and Rashard Jermaine White , Cleveland, OH; maternal grandfather, Jerry Moses; paternal grandmother, Pearlie Whitson; a special friend, Tammy M. Gray; three aunts, Gwendolyn "Mamma Gwen" Smith, Bernice Whitson, Shreveport, and Ann Williams, Cleveland, OH; two special cousins, Gene Steven Darryl Martin and Jerry Bonavena Moses; a special god-sister, Chandra "Spanky" Collier; a host of aunts, uncles, other family and friends.

Active pallbearers are the Honor Guards at Fort Polk, LA. Honoray pallbearers are Jerry Moses, Theodore Moses Sr., Eddie W. Moses, Steven Gene Martin, Jerry B. Moses, Rodemetrius Whitson, James Alton Moses, Leonard Jerry Moses, Anderson Moses, Thomas L. Whitson Jr., Alex Harris and Anthony Moses.

Billy S. Moak

(Died Jan. 13. 2000)

MT. HERMON - Funeral services for Billy S. Moak, 78, a resident of Mt. Hermon, is scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow in the chapel of Crain Funeral Home, the Eld. Brent King, the Rev. Larry Archote and the Rev. Ace McVay officiating.

Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home in Franklinton and will continue tomorrow after 8 a.m. until time of the service.

Burial will follow in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery.

Mr. Moak died yesterday in Heritage Manor Nursing Home.

He was a retired mechanic, also retired maintenance man at Washington Parish Courthouse. He was a World War II veteran of U.S. Coast Guard and a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Crowe Moak, Mt. Hermon; three sons, Russell Moak, Franklinton, Ronnie Moak and Scott Moak, Mt. Hermon; two daughters, Melanie Foy, Huntington, TX and Theresa Tullos, Franklinton; a brother, Hilton Moak, Mt. Hermon; two sisters, Audry L. Thomas, Sulphur, LA and Theresa Williams, Jackson , LA; seven grandchildren.

Jack Harlm Miller

(Died Jan. 12, 2000)

BOGALUSA - The funeral service for Jack H. Miller, 71, a resident of Bogalusa, is scheduled at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of the Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home, the Rev. Billy Galloway and the Eld. Doyle Ball officiating.

Visitation continued at 9 a.m. today until time of services. Burial will follow in Ponemah Cemetery.

Mr. Miller, who died Wednesday in the Bogalusa Community Medical Center, was a member of Monroe Street Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie and Ivy Miller; a sister, Blanche Holliday; his first wife, Elizabeth Carroll Miller; and his second wife, Lenell C. Miller.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Ronald Owens, Varnado, Barbara and Tommy Creel, Mandeville, Pam and John Lee, Bogalusa; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Norma Heide, Coca, FL; three brothers, Carruth Miller, Franklinton, William Miller, Ponchatouls and Nelson Miller, Wesson, MS; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Athalie Kennedy McCain

(Died Jan. 12, 2000)

BOGALUSA - Funeral services for Athalie Kennedy McCain, 83, a resident of Bogalusa, are scheduled for 3:30 p.m tomorrow at graveside in the Bonnie Cemetery at Angie.

Visitation is from 2-3 p.m. tomorrow at the Brown-McGehee Funeral Home.

Survivors include her husband, Robert McCain, Bogalusa; a daughter, Betty Thomas Aldridge, Crossroads; three granddaughters; a grandson; a brother, Dalco Kennedy, Bogalusa; four nieces, Jerry Ann Fornea, Varnado, Barbara Seal, Stateline, Doris Seal, Angie and Louise Camp, Angie; a nephew, Dalton Kennedy, Bogalusa.

Sgt. Marcus LeShon Whitson

(Died Jan. 1, 2000)

ANCHORAGE, AK - The funeral service for Sgt. Marcus Leshon Whitson, 28, a resident of Anchorage, AK, are scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Wesley Ray United Methodist Church in Angie, the Rev. Bruce L. Brown and the Rev. Linza Cotton officiating.

Burial will follow in the Lewis-Moses cemetery in Angie.

Visitation is from 6-10 p.m today and will continue tomorrow after 9 a.m. until time of the service.

Burial will follow in Ponemah Cemetery.

Carolyn Sue McGinness

(Died Dec. 15, 1999)

AMITE - Funeral arrangements have been completed for Carolyn Sue McGinness, age 32, who died Wednesday at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. A native of Bogalusa and resident of Amite for five years, she was a member of Westside Emmanuel Baptist Church in Bogalusa and was currently attending First Baptist Church in Amite.

Visitation will be at the Brown-McGehee Funeral Home today from 5 - 9 p.m., continuing tomorrow after 11 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 1 p.m. in the chapel.

The Rev. David Fortenberry, pastor of First Baptist Church in Amite and the Rev. John Kittrell, associate pastor of First Baptist Church of Bogalusa, will officiate with interment to follow in Ponemah Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Mason Scott McGiness; her mother, Betty Lou Griffin McGinness of Bogalusa; two brothers, Clifton Lee McGinness of New Orleans and Thomas Steve McGinness of Columbia, South America.

She was preceded in death by her father, Rufus R. (Mack) McGinness.

Mildred Warren Scobel

FRANKLINTON - The funeral service for Mildred Warren Scobel, 83, is scheduled for 11 a.m. tomorrow in the chapel of Crain Funeral Home of Franklinton, the Rev. Karl Tingle officiating.

Visitation will be after 9 a.m. tomorrow at the funeral home, continuing until time for the funeral service.

A graveside service will be also held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Westlawn Mausoleum in New Orleans.

Ms. Scobel died yesterday at 5 p.m. at her residence in Baton Rouge.

She was a longtime resident of Gretna and a retired secretary for Lykes Brothers Steamship.

Survivors include two sons, Buddy Wood, Franklinton and William P. Pitre of Baton Rouge; a daughter, Delores Ann Gill, Long Beach, CA; a sister, Marie Kliesch, Orange, TX; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
